Great local bar in Ridgewood. I actually would prefer not to tell people about it, because I enjoy it so much and don't want it to become a hot spot. They have such good food in the back. This is like one of my stop after a long day at work places. It's not too far from my house and the bartenders are wonderful, it's got a great energy and I've never had a problem there. The Dominican frying cheese with hot honey is just next level... I could smash it every day . Also the salt and vinegar fries are... just annoyingly good. Don't miss out on the frozen cider from the machine... it will give you brain freeze, but it will also end your day with peace. They really don't make bars like this anymore. Perfect neighborhood bar with not glitz and glamour, just great vibes, the patrons are all cool, the food is spectacular and the drinks are reasonably priced. Came here on a recommendation as since I live nearby, figured this was the move on a Sunday. I even ran into a podcast couple that I follow and on their show they've actually talked about Ginny's. I see why! The shot and a beer special is always a plus with a Ganset and the bartender was speedy and attentive on a moderately busy afternoon. The food is really something special! I ordered off of the secret menu for the buffalo chicken quesadilla, (because it had bacon), and got some wings. The wings were fried perfectly and had such flavor. Juicy chicken with stellar sauces. I live within walking distance of Aunt Ginny's. I've heard about it before, but until last Sunday, I had ZERO ideas about how amazing this place was! Came here on a whim when my friends and I realized The Flying Fox Tavern was closed on Sundays. As soon as I stepped into Aunt Ginny's, I felt at home. The place is HUGE and it totally reminded me of my favorite rock dive bar, Rocka Rolla. There weren't too many people there when we got there but man was it packed when we left. We spent a few hours there just drinking and enjoying the music. The music was all over the place and I really loved that. Blasting Judas Priest's greatest hits when we got there delighted me to no end. Then they played Kenny Loggins, Chaka Kahn, Kurtis Blow, AC/DC, and some death metal. Seating is abundant! The bar is huge and there are lots of booth and table seating. A picture booth in the back along with a pool table and two arcade games. Plenty of bathrooms. The most random of decorations on the wall. Friendly bartender. Huge and cheap drinks. Their cocktail menu has everything I love on it. Dark and Stormy!! Although they use ginger syrup for drinks that call for ginger beer. It's not bad, but it's POTENT so watch out. Their best drink though is the frozen passionfruit margarita. Sooooo yummy. You get a bang for your buck with their $10 drinks. They have a tiny kitchen in the back called I Like Food that opens up at 5. It was funny watching everyone literally run to the back when 5 PM came around. I thought, hey, food must be good! Went up and ordered Churro Fries. Man, they were so good. Regular french fries were dusted with cinnamon sugar and came with a chocolate dipping sauce. Mmmmmmm! So good. They give you a number and they bring the food to your table. Aunt Ginny's is my local bar and I loved it, all my friends do. But I won't be coming back. Friday I when to get a drink with my friend,I pay the first round that in was only 2 drinks ( $20) not bad at all, and I left a $5 tip ( they didn't give me a physical receipt). After that my friend got more drinks and I got the food. The next day when I check my card it says they charge me $30. So I was confused when I check my online receipt( that they send almost 3hr later than when I pay) it says they put in a $10 dollar tip. It's not even about the extra $5 dollars that they took, it's about trust !!! What would've happened if it was a bigger tap? Are they going around just adding tips without asking ??? Did they did it because they trough we were drunk already and we weren't going to remember!? Honestly is just sad that they would do this. read more

Ok I deleted my first review because it was slightly unfair. I definitely liked this bar a lot until the other day, when I came in during the day hours with my two and a half year old, and some friends who also have a few kids. We sat at a table in the back room, away from the bar which we've done at this bar before. However the staff clearly didn't like this from the start, and instead of telling us ahead of time, the bartender came up to us after we had finished eating and having a beer, and said that we need to watch our kids better. Honestly they were pretty well Behaved, and we were about to leave anyway at that point. As a result of him saying this I definitely lost my temper a little bit and I regret that. However, if it truly bothers you that much for parents in their 30's to bring their kids to your bar (which really isn't a dive bar despite claims) on a Saturday afternoon, then put up a sign on the door saying "people under 21 not permitted". There are plenty of other places we can take our kids. The attitude isn't necessary, especially in a neighborhood that is full of young-ish parents who enjoy a leisurely drink here and there. It is a cool bar that plays great music, and has good food, but the rude/cold/huffy puffy staff is enough for me to not come back. Lastly, way to allow multiple dogs into the place while you cook and serve food, but then you have the nerve to complain about my kid quietly playing with your video game. P.S- Not sure if the hateful message I received from someone calling me a "retard" while also referring to my "shi**y kids" was from an employee, but honestly I wouldn't be that surprised. I realize there are not a lot of options in the area, but that doesn't make this a great bar. As others have observed, it was loud, especially given that it was empty on the Monday night I was there. It had a honky tonk vibe I didn't care for either. That's all Ok, but I didn't care for the bartenders, who showed me no hospitality whatsoever. I sat at the nearly empty bar for quite some time being ignored by the bartenders. I came straight from work, in business casual attire, and have found that sometimes leads to being iced out in this area. Bartender also didn't know the beers, and told me the Bells Two Hearted wasn't an IPA, and the River Horse Triple Horse was. Oh well. read more

This is my favorite bar. Period. Sometimes I'm not sure if my wife and I moved to Ridgewood because of the place we found, or because we fell in love with Aunt Ginny's. It has all the things you like about a classic dive bar, except its exceptionally clean. Its the neighborhood bar you wish existed in other parts of New York, but alas don't. The bartenders are some of the nicest people I've ever met, and always make us feel right at home. Whether we're trying to have a fun Saturday out, or have had a rough day at work and just need a pick me up, its the perfect place to hang. I Look Food, which is the food service in the back, is also absolutely incredible. Its all the comfort food of your dreams with regularly changing specials that are always awesome. Whenever my wife asks me what I want to do when we have a day off, the answer is inevitably, "let's go to Ginny's." read more

Bartender was awesome, however this guy (not sure what his position is there) but he was a big ole douche last night. My friend has a disability and can't stand for too long with his cane. This guy was trying to pull down the gates to close (which is understandable). To be clear this was the gate, not the actual front door to the bar. I asked nicely if he didn't mind waiting two minutes until his Uber arrived bc he is disable and can't really hold himself up. As a bartender, I know they would still be closing down/cleaning the actual bar. His response was "yeah well I have a disability too". Cool bro. This place really is like Cheers. Our local bar is a true gem-- the staff is so welcoming and even remember my usual drink which always feels great aside from the fact that I am incredibly predictable. The bar is clean and the pool table in back is such a bonus. Don't even get me started on the food, I could go on and on about how delicious everything that comes out of the I Like Food window in back is but you're better off trying for yourself. That little kitchen packs a mighty wallop. Suffice it to say that if Aunt Ginny was a real human, I would imagine her to have a big ole' southern coif, impeccable makeup and style, welcoming of all walks of life and eager to serve you one helluva drink and meal. Well it started off as a good night until I tried paying my bill. All I asked was to close out my check and after the bartender in some Hawaiian shirt told me okay he kept taking drink orders and completely ignored me. When I complained to other bearded bartender he said okay and walked to otherside of the bar and seen my wife on the other end who he thought wanted a drink. Is it because Im spanish I don't know... Maybe. Anyways my white wife looked at the bartender and said I don't want a drink my husband has been trying close the check for 30 minutes. So we finally get the check but after hearing the bartenders saying F... Them. You know I have lived in this neighborhood for years and I felt discriminated against. Sad on what I thought was a kool pace is now a place of discrimination.
