I went here with some of my friends and my wife. I head to the bar to get a drink and a intoxicated woman bumps into me doing a hand gesture. No big deal. I told the lady , I will let the bartender know it was an accident so he replaces it. I told him all good. They then call me back to pay for it. I told the bartender " How this works is if its accident you replace the drink. I was telling you to let you know she isn't just asking for a free drink" He then says to me "you are going to tell a bartender with 10 year experince how this works". I tell him well "then you are not a friendly neighborhood bar. Whatever " . And I paid for it to move on. I go back to my wife and friends and the bouncer start walking towards me and says "you gotta go". I tell him "are you serious?" fine. He then says to me " Idk what happened but thanks for maknig my life easy". The bartender could have been having a bad day but he handled it terribly. I was not rude , I very rightfully said I didnt agree but I let it go and paid. Literally just gave an attitude. A lot of people would have made a much bigger deal of it. I then write a bad review on google about the bar. The bar replies to me and says " Once the drink was spilt it was replaced for free immediately . You were kicked out becaue you made the bartender and the woman uncomfortable". Blatantly lying in their response. I paid $13.56 for a woman who did not need another drink's beverage. They did not replace it for free. The fact they made me pay for it was the whole conflict. LOL I was trying to help this woman by confirming it was an accident and they made me pay for the drink. And listen , I get its a business and a bartender shouldn't hurt a business owners pockets. But do not call me a liar. If I made them feel uncomfortable it was because they knew I was right and could not drop it. Therefore me staying with my friends was bothering them. I was sitting with my wife and friends not bothering anyone after I gave the bartender a slight attitude for not doing the right thing. The bar actually confirms that a accidential spilt drink should be replaced for me , because they lied in the response to my review saying the drink was replaced for free it was not. My advice is do better. And it is possible that the bartender was not thinking clearly, the music was loud etc. But it is completely unprofessional and unacceptable to escalate the situation the way he did and also go on a powertrip when I gave a slight attitude. Go to The Sampler next to it. It has a much more friendly staff. My experience at this place. Put simple . I walk in with about 7 people. Get a drink and someone spills a drink. I let the bartender know it was an accident to help. I am forced to pay that persons drink, pretty bullied me into it even though I was just trying to help. I stuck for myelf respectfully. And then I got kicked out and embarressed in front of my friends for sticking up for myself. Then they write on my google review that I am lying and the drink was replaced for free. Yes , free for her. I paid for it! LMAO read more

Love this place!! Super unassuming neighborhood bar with amazing sounds. I came here on a Saturday night with a friend visiting out of town who is staying in the area. They were playing everything from Kaytranada to Afrobeats. Great drinks for a great price. My go-to is the Hibiscus Margarita which packs a bite for just $12. The security and bartenders are chill. We had SUCH a great night at Starr Bar recently. We were celebrating a friend's bachelorette, and the bartenders were so friendly, super accommodating and overall great. The place wasn't super packed and if you're fully vaccinated, you weren't required to wear a mask (although they weren't checking for proof of vaccination, FYI). The drinks were moderately priced and they have a lot of great beer options. This is a great place to jam out to your favorite songs with your friends, haha! read more

In addition to a spacious bar there's a larger booth sectioned off with high dividers, which would be a cozy intimate spot for a good group of friends among the otherwise spacious areas (too large for a date though). The place is connected with social justice organizations. Besides the fact that it's a great cause, the connection has seemed to attracted really genuine bartenders. It's the type of community that's hard to find, especially in New York. Large open windows at the front. To the back, a smaller curtained underpass to even more seating. A lovely drinking spot in Bushwick for social justice/progressive/left folks. This is a sweet place obscured from street view because it's on the second floor. It's affiliated with nearby Mayday Space and is a venue for the social justice community to watch films, hear music, organize, and have a drink. There's some great, political art on the walls. My earthy red wine was served in a small goblet. My girlfriend had an old fashioned that was very tasty. We came to see a film, and the back room was filled with folding chairs for the viewing. Later, there was a live music benefit, and it was a bit hard to hear conversations. The crowd is friendly and diverse. The bartenders could be more attentive. They have a small food menu, with staples like hummus and tamales. Clean, unisex bathrooms, with more in the back. I am in awe of the professionalism of its employees. Not only the insulted me but they insulted my girlfriend. The general manager and bartender were racist toward me. Called me a "white latino" then degraded my girlfriend whom is white with degoragorty epitaphs. I will never come here. It was disgusting how they approached us and vilified themselves in their actions. Beware this place. Never have ever been treated with a cruelty such as this. What a great little spot. Just randomly picked this spot to hang with a few friends and I was not disappointed! The bartender/waitress was bubbly, funny and very accommodating. You really can't beat the Happy Hour 5-7. $5 drafts, well drinks, narrangasset and shot $7 margaritas. The food though....OMG!!! Their cauliflower (Cauli Pau) is seriously some of the best I've ever had. 1 person had the Starr Burger and another had the Cauliflower burger. No complaints there, but the "starr" of the night was definitely the appetizers. We tried them all (cauliflower, potato croquettes and panipuri puffs) and they were amazing. Great music, cool vibes. Great place. This was the highlight place for me when I visited New York City. The staff was nice and friendly. There were lots of poc and it was just comfortable for me. I'm definitely coming back again with a few of my friends. I took the subway for an hour to get here and it was definitely worth it. If I move here, this will be a regular place for me. Came in a bit ago to kill time before meeting up with a friend for a food festival. Didn't even realize I was in the completely wrong neighborhood until she was 90 percent of the way there and I was chilling with my book and beer in Bushwick. But I thankfully only had to backtrack 3 train stops. But didn't take away from having a pleasant time here! They have a decent happy hour of $5 drafts/wells, $5 Narragansett and a shot, $7 Margs/Old Fashioneds, $1 off wines until 7pm every day. Decent selection of beers on draft and friendly bartender. I went with a Left handed milk stout and took in my surroundings. They serve some food (which I didn't try because of food festival later) but it seems like kind of a wide variety with quesadillas, rice/beans, croquettes, moussaka . . . intermeshed with traditional bar food - burgers, french fries, etc. They also do shows here. Went to this place tonight for open mic night. Their open mic features local talent from all musical backgrounds. I truly loved the crowd and the laid back energy in the room. The open mic is located in the back of the bar in a theater like room. They have drinks and food you can order. Parking in the area wasn't bad either. Solid, bar with a cozy atmosphere and a nice stag in the back for live music. The bar's walls and posters indicate they have a strong appreciation towards social groups and causes. Its hard to beat $6 for a Gansett and a shot (even less during happy hour 5-7 daily) so I was pretty much satisfied just drinking those for the few hours I was there on a Sunday evening. Otherwise the tap list was a solid B, with things like a Victory Gose in the rotation that are good but not great.
