I have so much love for this bar!! It can be hard to find a bar in Bushwick that it is totally down to earth, welcoming, and inclusive - but Starr bar is all of those things. The crowd is diverse and it's inspiring to see people come together to conspire and support each other. The bartenders are friendly and attentive, even on the busiest nights. The food is delicious, fresh, and affordable. I'm a total burger snob and would normally be hesitant to order one at a bar but yoooooo their burger is amazing and hits the spot every time. read more

I just moved down the street and pass this place all the time - after my first visit I'm kicking myself for not going sooner! The bartender, Katie, was so incredibly sweet and helpful with recommendations and the food and happy hour (every day til 7!?!?) was fantastic. My new fav spot. So great! read more

If I could I'd give this place zero stars. It was awful from the music to the way the staff treated their customers. Incredibly unprofessional, I was actually in awe and couldn't believe what my friends and I experienced. Bartenders were getting extremely violent and aggressive probably due to all of the drinking they were doing rather than actually working, or the fact that you couldn't get your actual order taken because half the time the staff was outside flirting with customers. There were two female bartenders, one darker and one lighter skinned the lighter skinned bartender with short curly hair was barely behind the bar during her shift and leaving the other two to struggle, she was taking multiple shots with guys and quite frankly didn't even seem like she was working at all. Really bad look for business, I'm actually embarrassed for even coming here with all of my friends. Definitely a lame spot with even more lame and unprofessional people working. If you're looking for a chill place to drink and dance and have a good time with friends I definitely don't recommend this place. read more

Wonderful community bar with a great atmosphere, a regular stream of fun events, and a strong connection to local activists. This is the bar to go to if you want to be engaged in the local activist community. Always so many interesting groups speaking or holding fundraisers here, and that leads to a great atmosphere in the bar on any night. Also, order the fries. Top notch read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Horrible music and horrible customer service. 1. There is no DJ. It's just a couple random people picking random songs off a library of music on their personal laptop without WiFi in the building for actual DJ-ing. 2. The bartenders are extremely rude and unprofessional. One of the bartenders, a girl with short hair and light skin, crawled up on the bar top aggressively when I asked for a drink acting like me wanting to order a drink was an invitation to fight.. She drank repeatedly throughout the night with different customers and wasn't behind the bar as much as she was out hanging out with guys and letting them feed her alcoholic drinks and became drunk early in the night. She was so rude to all of us and our friends and ultimately made us leave and never want to come back. She cursed us out for no reason. WORST customer service ever. We left once we realized this was THE WORST PLACE to spend our Saturday night. read more

The Starr burger is really delicious!!! I loved the mustard aioli sauce they gave with it. Drinks are good and strong. The setup is a bit weird as the kitchen is in the back. So during events the staff have to walk through the crowd. Id be frustrated if I worked there but overall great service and venue for inclusive events. read more

Starr Bar has been my favorite bar since the soft-opening party in September. It was at that party that I met the woman who would become my wife. I married her, in the bar, with McNair officiating. We conceived our first child at Starr Bar's 1st presidential debate viewing party, and Ana delivered our healthy baby boy just last weekend, also at Starr Bar!!! Drinks were cheap, was low key and it didn't seem as overran or pretentious as places further on the L train line (Bedford Ave). I love this bar! I stumbled upon it after hearing from friends that it was opening up in September. It's a great place to meet people that are connected to social justice movements, organizing, and activism. The customer service and happy hour are great! Terrible customer service!!! We went there on a Sunday evening and it was very empty. We waited at the bar for about 10 minutes trying to get one of the two bartender's attention. After awhile the bartender with light curly hair approached and gave us the drink menu saying that the other bartender will take our order. She sounded like she has been drinking and after giving us the menu she went to handout with people at the bar. We waited for another 10 minutes trying to get the other bartender's attention while watching her to serve drinks to people who just came in. We left without ordering any drinks. read more

This is an amazing space run by dynamic individuals. My go-to space in the neighborhood for a quiet drink on the early side or for a festive late night. Great eclectic music/DJs and friendly bartenders. Diverse crowd makes me forget how young and white the neighborhood is turning. read more

visited this bar for the first time to see a band play. The band was great but service was non existent. Sat at a table no one asked if we wanted to order anything. Waitress came out with food for 2 other tables, and cleaned another table and it was like we wasn't even there. After the band played we got up and asked about ordering and they told us that we need to get a number at the bar. Would have been nice if someone told us. After she told us she went about her business. No apologies or nothing. We decided to leaved and ate at the nearby bar which the food was good. First and the last time at the Starr Bar. I had the avocado slices and plantain chips. The cilantro aoli and house dressing that came as dipping sauces perfected the taste of the avocado and plantains. The bartender was also very friendly, helpful and they played extremely dope music. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for not only great service and food, but entertainment as they host events here as well. They also have happy hour every single day from 5-8pm! This is the only nightlife venue in NYC I know of dedicated to sustaining and growing movements for justice... and hosts some of the dopest one-off and monthly events around (esp. Vibras, Queer Abstract & Compost Bin radical burlesque). My fave thing is to plop down early, maybe finish up some work (they have free Wifi), get a happy hour drink and a bite from their simple but tasty menu. Great spot to build community and see what grassroots groups got going on. read more

Finally, a bar in Bushwick that isn't another hipster gentrifying scene. Spacious and tasteful but relaxed interior. Huge room in the back for events. Friendly and diverse clientele.
