I'm writing this review based on my son's recent experience at this place. My son decided to come to an event and was truly excited since it was his first time visiting Alphaville. He was not here thirty minutes before he mentioned to me that he was leaving. His reason for leaving was the atmosphere. He was ignored after asking for a drink. No one seemed to want to do THEIR JOB. Based on his description of the environment, I'm going to say it was because he is African-American that he was treated unfairly. He stated that other people who were clearly lighter than him were being served while he was being ignored. Shame on you Alphaville and your staff. I'm upset he had to endure racial discrimination for the first time at this mediocre place called Alphaville. read more

Nothing about the vibe or atmosphere suggests that the food here would be exceptional, which makes it such a pleasant surprise. Both meals I've had have been excellent. I've ordered the cheeseburger with fries and, on a separate visit, the fried chicken sandwich. Both were full of flavor, with the chicken sandwich being especially juicy. You place your order at the bar, and the bartenders are usually helpful and friendly. The food does take a while to come out, so expect a wait, but at least you know that everything is made fresh each time. read more

Great venue with a surprisingly amazing menu (most bars have decent food, Alphaville had DELICIOUS fare). I ordered their fries with crab dip, and my goddaughter ordered their steak and fries! This is probably my hundredth time coming here. Everyone knows my name when I come here and pretty much everyone fucks with me except a couple randoms. Not a lot of people know this but Alphaville is one of the best places in the tri-state area to get an ice cold Guinness. My bartender Brandon taught me how to blow smoke rings or "O's" on his cigarette break. This just goes to show how personable and friendly the bar staff are. Went last night with my 24 year old daughter. I tried to ask three different bartenders for drinks for us, and instead, they served other guests while never getting mine. One actually took my order then cleaned up the bar and walked away from the bar entirely. Another took it then served others that came up after me. The other just ignored me like I wasn't there. I went back to the table, and my daughter went to the bar and was served immediately. Ageism at its finest. That's pretty awful. Way to go Alphaville. Great bar staff you have there. I'm from the south and this 100% the best fried check I've ever had in my entire life. In house sauces blew my mind, generous portions for the price. I love going to concerts! My spending categories are definitely art, booze, food and shows! And Alphaville covers most of those needs. I've popped in here many times for a beer or a small snack of fried goodies but I have not been for a show. I was excited to see local modern goth rockers "Bootblacks" and romantic, goth band "Weeknight" were playing together. "Weeknight" had been on hiatus and therefore the turn out was pretty huge. The entire bar was jam packed. The place is CASH ONLY. And it was super hard to get to the water cooler. I also couldn't believe the amount of people talking during the show. If you wanna talk, don't go to shows. I'm here to watch the band and shake my tail feather. "Bootblacks" had been on my concert eye for awhile. If you ever watch the movie "Blade Runner" this band sounds and looks like if the replicants started a band. It's got electronic keyboard dance moves and the vocals are spot on. And in top of that there is a trumpet coming in at perfect timing. NGL I was surprised how much I loved this spot. It's a great place to get a drink, and an even better place to watch a show. I loved the space, the venue area in the back is truly amazing. How has this place not fixed their absolute death trap of an exit/entrance?? It's like a ramp with ledge sides and I have, soberly, completely rolled my ankle on it and been in pain for the rest of the night at least 3 times. Lawsuit waiting to happen.... Alphaville reminds me so much of your typical music/bar venue in Camden Town,London. There's nothing fancy about it. Even wine is served from the can. It's not a bar I would ordinarily go to just to catch up with friends or simply to grab a drink. This is a place to see live music. I saw a really great Boston band Space Junk is Forever playing there on a Friday night and there were amazing! If you're coming out of age rocker, punk or whatever you like to call yourself this place is for you. read more

Ordered the "Rodeo Chicken Sandwich" (aka Fried Chicken Sandwich) for delivery. As a person with not a massive appetite, and whom hates the MASSIVE, almost inedible 'Man V. Food' styled portions we get today, this was great. The sandwich is the perfect size for one person, and packs a lot of punch (It's about the same size as the Cast Iron Cheeseburger from Forrest Point). The fries are fantastic and actually hilariously big / thick (making the sandwich look smaller in comparison). Overall, it was a good portion for both the cost, and what I'm use to consuming. Imagine trying to sleep on a weekday/workday/school day and there are people screaming out in front at two and three in the morning not caring about the neighborhood yea that's basically what this place is. Alphaville is a great place to meet slightly washed-up indie rockers with moderate drinking and drug problems. It's a little less punk than Birdie's, and a bit more sleazy than Old Stanley's. Much straighter than Happyfun but way less creepy than Bootleg or Lone Wolf. read more

What is going on with this place? The downstairs bathrooms have been closed at least 2 weeks, the toilet seat on the upstairs one is only half attached, they've had cups on almost all their beer taps for what a while, haven't had any wine for a while, the signs still claim the kitchen is open til 2 am but hasn't been open at all the past two times I've been here, and now they are cash-only. It is either going out of business soon, or managed by pure apathy and inertia. I keep coming back here because they book shows. I've always found it oddly dark and depressing vibe-wise but lately it just seems pathetic and sad. Why does anyone voluntarily come here unless there is a band you need to see? read more

I went to this place for an hour on a Friday night. I went outside to have a really important conversation on the phone. I was being quiet and respectful. One of the bartenders kept berating me and rudely asking me to step aside and end my conversation. Honestly I was a bit stubborn about it because of how terribly rude she was and upon my attempt to re-enter, I was denied by the bouncers. Honestly wasn't that mad though, drinks were watered down, and I was happy to leave. When we walked around 7pm in there was no one at this bar but the bartender who was openly drinking. She informed us all of her taps were down so we could only order cans or liquor. We ordered two Budweiser's and she tried to upsell a shot for $1 more, my friend accepted but I declined and she told is the total was $10.. he changed his mind and then our total was $8? Ok. Then I remembered they had food and asked about their burger special. She said the kitchen was not open. When I asked how long it was closed for she said "I don't know". Ok. I'm a local and I really like this place. The ambience is fantastic. You sort of get lost just sitting there after two or three of the "$6 beer & a shot" specials, whilst listening to the Talking Heads for two hours. The staff are super nice and genuinely concerned about your experience, which one wouldn't expect at a quote-unquote dive bar. It's something they should be proud of. I will say that I was disappointed to learn that their kitchen was closed for a brief period. My first drink was on the house though for the inconvenience...whilst the bar tender slurped away his dinner behind the bar, in front of customers. This one little incident couldn't be more than a raindrop in the ocean and won't keep me from coming back - most likely multiple times a week! read more

Our bartender was so rude. There are signs that say "food till 2am" so I ask for a food menu around 9pm. He says they're not serving food. Ok whatever, nbd. Then I see another sign with a wine list so I ask for rose and he just says, "no". So I say, "... no?" He says they don't have that. Ok, again, I can live without it. Then I ask for a dark and stormy and again he just says, "no." At this point I ask him if he is fucking with me because I thought maybe he was just joking or something like he didn't want to serve me. He stumbles his words saying, "we don't have .... we don't have ...." I finish his sentence, "o you don't have ginger beer" which shows me he doesn't even know how to make a dark and stormy. So finally I just ask for a rum and coke and he gives it to me in the smallest glass and charges me $10. Keep in mind during this entire interaction he's looking me up and down giving me the dirtiest look.
