Alpha is one of my favorite local bars because of the good prices, great food, and there's always events like cool shows going on (with a reasonable door price!!). It's a combination of all the fun things you like to do in Bushwick. Would have given 5 stars except for an incident with a bar tender (ive always seen him wearing one dangly earring, I think his name is guage?) a few weeks back. I had tried to offer half of my $4 tip (on 2 drinks and takeout) in quarters when the bartender said they don't accept change. When I said that's all I had he told me I shouldn't have come out if I had no money (which I did, it was just money he refused). He then had the bar back come over and toss all the change I left directly into a garbage bin! I have never had a server deny my tip, tell me I should have given him more, and then throw away half it. I understand this bar is cash only, but had he cared so much about me tipping more he could have pocketed the change instead of literally throwing it in the garbage. I have not been back to Alphaville since, because I do not care to have another interaction with this bartender. however, Food is great so I will continue to support the business as a take-out customer. read more

Attractive women that barely have to acknowledge you(most times don't) because they're too busy not mixing any drinks because they only do well drinks. 2 stars cause I didn't try the food. Ugh go somewhere else. This bar hurts my soul. Please stop the mediocrity. Saturday night filled with the copies of the same person. Getting shoved around and excuse-me, excuse-me to death - if anyone is polite to say even that. $12 to get to the music show. Bleh. We went into Alphaville during Thursday happy hour and it was a nice break from the hot summer day. The bartender was chill and welcoming, and she made us some dope drinks. Cheap wells $4. She also gave us some good recs for gay karaoke in the neighborhood. Also her playlist was fun and eclectic. Didn't make it to a show there yet, but we'll be back. Good vibes all around. read more

Everything about Alphaville checks out. Drinks are fairly priced. The beer list suits a variety of personal tastes. Bartenders are super-friendly and chill. The music on the speakers in the front room is usually really good punk, rock'n'roll, powerpop, indie, post-punk, glam, etc. type stuff. There's very good bar food served late, and $1 chicken nugs (minimum six per order, and they're big) at happy hour. Ample seating in the bar/front room. I've never seen a line for the bathroom here. The back room is the performance room, which has a very good sound system, and it's a wide room rather than a deep one, so every spot in the room feels close to the stage. Eyeballing it, I'd say the performance room probably has a capacity of about 75-100. Alphaville is considered a very desirable place to play among local NYC bands, particularly of various "rock" persuasions, which means the booking crew can choose the cream of the crop, and quality of music is usually quite high. They usually do four-act bills, which will typically run $8-$10 for local acts and slightly more if there's a reasonably well-known touring act. Of course there is no cover to hang in the front room, from which you really can't hear the bands at all -- just in case you don't want a rock show and just want to chill. Location is terrific, very conducive to neighborhood bar-hopping, but for the above reasons I'd recommend it as a place to just stay for a few hours. read more

I won't be able to rave enough about nugz in this review. This bar sells chicken nuggets called nugz. There are now multiple contexts in my life where I can purchase and subsequently enjoy nugz. I love alphaville. I've only had delivery but it's very good and the quality is quite consistent. I like the buffalo nugs with fries. I've never dined in before, but the delivery comes quickly. They don't have sodas for delivery though, which is weird. Also they have a somewhat limited delivery menu. read more

Bartenders were the rudest people I've ever met. When I questioned them about a charge they yelled in my face then refused to give me my debit card back claiming they didn't have it. I've been here a handful of times. Most have been not great. A couple were OK/good as the bartender was nice. Someone once literally screamed at me and my friend to get out when we weren't even warned a first time. Also, I just went there to order food which apparently they should be serving till 3 AM according to their website but they decided to stop early tonight as its slow. I get it but I was referring to online resources aka your website. Could have offered my anything but nothing considering i was also waiting almost 10 minutes to be said hello to at a not so busy bar. read more

Alphaville is one of the only bars in my neighborhood i go to consistently. Alpha is great Beyond just bein a cheap dive due to its good sized show space in the back and its decent food. Some of the food could be like a buck cheaper for what it is but who cares. Nugs are a good deal. i know ill usually see people from my extended circle, sort of a cheers vibe but danker and darker. Can be pretty quiet on a weeknight that has no show but busy on weekends. read more

Boooo. Rude, lazy, unprofessional bartenders. They forgot to put my app order in, ignored me when I stood in front of them with the order number to ask - one texting on her phone, glanced at me and back down. When I nicely asked to just cancel the food (which I had desperately needed an hr earlier), girl gave me $11 back, a half ass sorry, and walked away before I looked at the money. The food had cost me $14 and I had left a tip. It was too crowded to bother getting her attention for the few bucks, plus I probably would have felt like I was inconveniencing them not doing their job. Unfortunately I live too close to not go here, but I hope they get their act together and hire fewer assholes. read more

This bar is in a nice big open space that is generally playing good enough music. Their attempt at making soup is terrible. The fries are not bad. The bartender that I encountered there was rude and rather mean for no apparent reason. They don't serve wine at all, which is odd for such a large bar. They also don't have a good selection of beer. It's overall not a great place, but it has some potential if they could hire better staff. read more

I've been to Alphaville a few times and most of the experiences were average. Every time I go the service is painfully slow, but the food is usually decent. I had the nachos on one occasion and liked them enough to come back for them a second time. After experiencing long wait times at Alphaville before, I knew what to expect. When I finally got my order, there was no cheese or queso on the nachos. I thought they had simply made a mistake and forgotten the cheese, so I told the server. She apologized and said she would bring me some of the queso on the side. It turns out that they were actually out of queso that evening. When I said I no longer wanted the nachos the waitress looked at me like I was crazy, but offered to bring me something else on the menu. The nachos were the most expensive thing on the menu, so it wasn't exactly a fair trade but I went ahead and ordered the kale salad. The nachos without the queso was really just chips and salsa with some beans added. Not sure why the waitress was surprised when I no longer wanted them. I'm surprised the chef would even bother making them like that in the first place. Maybe they were hoping I wouldn't notice. There are a few dishes on the menu that contain queso. My main issue with this dining experience was that they didn't bother to update the menu to note what they didn't have that evening. Knowing that the wait times are long, it would have been nice to be aware of this in advance. There are too many other good restaurants and bars in the area for me to waste my time with Alphaville again. I won't be returning. read more

Sooooo.... not really sure how to rate this place other than mostly terrific which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. Basically everything was going great until (I was under the assumption that he was a bartender) I asked the barback (Nobile I think his name was) for a glass of what I like to call sexy water (alphaville is one of my local haunts so i'm pretty sure they know what to serve me when I walk in that mothafucker). So I ask him for it which involves cranberry and seltzer and he tells me that i should try grapefruit instead because grapefruit is a better fruit, and I explain that my stomach can't handle the acidity which leads him to explain how cranberry is actually more likely to put you at risk for stomach pains and acid reflux and then proceeds to actually pull out a roll of pepto bismol at which point I explain that i'm more of a rolaids guy (better corporate ethos) and he goes on to tell me how you're less at risk to develop kidney stones using pepto bismol considering it has more than one use AT WHICH POINT I SAY CAN I PLEASE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PLEASE. HAVE THE GODDAMN SEXY WATER WITH CRANBERRY BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I LIKE MY SEXY WATER AND CRANBERRY IS MORE AGREEABLE WITH MY STOMACH. And... well, after that we shared a cigarette and I can say if it was anyone else I might have knocked a star off, but this Nobile guy, real nice guy. I will say though that over at post no bills there's a bartender by the name of saleem who looks like he could be related to Nobile but this guys real sexy not conventionally attractive like Nobile (not that there's anything wrong with that).
