Red Borscht w Mushroom Dumplings, Sauerkraut & Mushrooms Pierogi (V), Barley Kasha Mushroom Bowl

Cause i was obsessed..... the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogi are DELISH and we got the vegan entree kasha that was lowkey airplane food but rlly went well w the borscht and pierogis. Wonderful intro to polish food, loved my draft polish lager as well. Greenpoint u WILL be seeing me again!

That was my second time. I ordered 'grilled mushroom' only at first to see the portion. It was small portion, so that I tried 'Polish Platter' which was a big portion and the tastes were all good! The mushroom came with bread and both were so tasty! Especially, the sourdough bread was outstanding. The Polish Platter, the server answered my request precisely and she brought it with boiled pierogis which were normally being served 'fried'. The draft beers were all good and reasonable prices.

Cartelized beet and goat cheese omelette with salad

Haven't been to Retro for breakfast since the takeover from Christina's .... (This review is based solely on breakfast) . In Greenpoint breakfast usually happens after child drop offs before the workday starts or casually in a day off... this place opens 9:30 so not an option for those of us who like to dine early. No worries I had my coffee at home and was eager to have a mimosa when I arrived... I ordered caramelized beets with goat cheese omelette... salad instead of home fries or French fries. Rye toast... which was delicious and came out first which was perfect as I have to eat slow and separate. Mimosa was complimentary... not sure how long that will be going on .. but a great surprise and delicious! Whatever was the choice for the sparkling champagne was perfect not too sweet or dry and was delightful with the orange juice! The disclaimer is a new chef which the waitress noted... my omelette looked pretty but the beets weren't carnelized and he had forgotten my goat cheese... half way through I questioned waitstaff to which she offered her apologies and brought me a bowl of goat cheese. The eggs were overcooked... so the omelette was quite dry... had he placed the goat cheese in the middle it definitely would have helped (my leftovers the next day with the goat cheese placed inside were notably better to their credit). Accidents happen and I feel they were patient, kind and courteous and I will try again. As I feel it's just a learning curve. Reasonably priced, nice ambiance and no rush service was well appreciated!

Killing food. They are also a Japanese-style "vinyl record bar". They also serve breakfast. They are open for lunch w a bar and 150+ year old E European pils on tap. There is everything to like here. It's super clean & the staff is super nice. They "get it". Other places could learn ALOT from them

Amazing Polish food that tastes just like home! Friendly service, great wine selection, and lovely retro-style decor. I especially enjoyed the live music on Sunday -- it really added to the charm. A must-visit spot for anyone looking to try classic Polish dishes with a modern touch.

I have orders the sautéd cod with leak sauce! I received what looked like a fish in batter with veggies and NO leak sauce! No sauce at all of any kind! If you did get a new chef shouldn't he know or be trained to make same items as advertised on the menu. I'm not even sure it's the same kind of fish honestly ......

We asked that they include the croquettes among the tapas and we chose the squid ink paella. The croquettes, pork, brussel sprouts, and potato were all perfect and exceptional. The tees leches cake was perfectly moist and not overly sweet as well. I wish there was a little more seafood in the paella l, but the taste was still amazing. The bruschetta and asparagus were delicious, but left something to be desired compared to the other dishes. I was greeted greatly, even with only a few minutes before last call for dinner service. The server and the bartender was reallt friendly and knowledgeable with the menu. Gave me really great options. For food I had the Spanish Olives, Pop a La Pedra, & the Croquetes Del Dia(made fresh every day and changes as well). I had a old fashion to drink, needed something that will warm me up for the cold weather. The ambiance was cute, and chic. You can tell that the workers run it like a little food family and I love that the most about El Born. Will definitely come again ans try out their brunch , heard it was amazing.

There is local artwork on the wall (for sale if that is your goal), there are dozens of seats between couches, tables and even an old wooden desk from the 1930's. There's also a great outdoor patio with some covered tables and chairs. Effortless cool, this is it. Coffee: 5/5. We had the espresso and cortado. Both were rich and dark, and came in a nice porcelain cup. We appreciate the small touches, because coffee in paper cups is just not as tasty. Ambiance: 5/5. The decor is perfect for creative types looking for remote work locations. Plush couches, small high top tables with bankers lights, and a few long coffee tables makes this place ideal for work or socializing. The noise level on a Sunday afternoon was muted, but it might be louder during weekdays. Value: 5/5. The prices are well below market value for Greenpoint, about $1-$2 less than other coffee bars. And they have so many mocktails under $10! Wow it's like 2018 in here!

Cozy couches, nice indoor tables, comfortable outdoor tables too. The coffee was rich and smooth. Not sure who their roaster is, but my latter was a nice full bodied blend. It really hit the spot. My wife likes her lattes with some spice and not every place can meet that request. Red Rover had cayenne which they sprinkled on her latte and for her it was just the right mix. Not too spicy but not wimpy either. Red Ricer is worth a visit if you want great coffee served with a warm coffee house vibe.

Overall, the a la carte menu is pretty small, so definitely check it out before you commit to eating here. Pineapple pork fried rice - Aside from the hollowed out pineapple that it came in, the presentation was a little weak (mostly rice, and very small pieces of toppings). The rice lacked color, which ultimately, did make the dish lean on the bland side. I did not think it had enough wok hei (flavor and aroma that comes from being cooked on a wok). We did like that the pork was lap Cheong (Chinese sausage) 3/5 Heritage 5 spice ribs - This was the only winner. Excellent flavor. 4/5 Pork Croqueta Banh mi - Despite the restaurant being Mexican Vietnamese fusion, we were pretty surprised to receive the sandwich that we did. It was pretty different from a traditional banh mi except for the veggies. I was not a fan of the sesame seed bun. The pork croqueta was ok but not wow in any way. 2/5 The restaurant is a bit out of the way. Easy to find parking because there's nothing else around.
