Last week, I had my Baby Shower held at Retro. There were 18 of us ladies all together at the party. I can't speak highly enough about how wonderful the experience was, from planning to preparation to the actual day. Slawek, the manager, was incredible to work with. He was very accommodating, flexible, and clearly wanted the party to be a huge success. He even planned out a custom menu for the group based on our preferences. Slawek also made sure that there were gluten-free and vegetarian options (some of my guests had those food restrictions). And, there were several guests who did not drink alcohol (myself included), and I was pleasantly surprised that the kitchen created custom mocktails for us to enjoy (which were delicious!). Slawek spent the weeks leading up to the party checking in on our plans and preparing everything behind the scenes. We had two long tables for our party, and it felt like a family atmosphere. The food was absolutely incredible. Everyone's plates were licked clean. From the appetizers to the entree choices to the dessert, all my guests were raving about the quality of the food. The service was also impeccable. Adrian and Marek took care of our every need. They were attentive, receptive, and quick to refill a glass or ask if we needed anything else. Adrian and Marek checked in with me frequently (as well as with my guests) to make sure I felt good and to ask if I needed anything else. Truly, they made me feel so special. Retro is a restaurant that serves authentic Polish food (I know being Polish) that is delicious and memorable. But it's not just about the food -- from the service to the warm interior, going to Retro is a comforting experience. It's definitely become one of my regular restaurants, and I look forward each time I go. I know that I will have a wonderful meal and even more wonderful memories. read more

Thursday - 5 stars. Great quality and flavor. Prices were very reasonable and ambiance was nice with music. Came again on a Saturday night because Thursday was so good (something no I never do). Had the confit au canard and the daily fish. Was very disappointed as the plates were dry and not as well seasoned. Would give it 2-3 stars for this visit. read more

Great polish restaurant with a nice range of modern and classic options. Pierogi with duck, burgers, lots of soups and specials to choose from and a proper bar with liquors made of ingredients never dreamed possible, I would expect nothing less from a proper Polish dining experience! I had the burger and it was tasty. The value for the price is great given how much everything the neighborhood has skyrocketed. Lots of weekly happy hours that extend till 9pm on Thursdays! The waitress was very friendly and patient and answered all our questions. The space was fairly quiet on a weekday evening so don't worry about reservations and they seem to be open a bit later than most polish restaurants in the neighborhood. read more

I had dinner at Retro recently and I was impressed with their friendly service and the food. I very much enjoy polish food and was excited to try their vegetarian stuffed cabbage. The cabbage was stuffed with kasha and veggies and smothered in mushroom sauce. Two cabbage rolls served with a small side salad and my choice of side (cucumber salad). I was so full by the end of the meal. My only suggestion would be to offer a vegetarian sampler plate with a pancake, pierogi, and a stuffed cabbage, that would have been heaven! On Thursday I dropped by Retro on a whim, after a doctor's appointment, and had a wonderful late-morning breakfast: a delicious omelet, salad and perfectly-seasoned roasted potatoes (worthy of the best Thanksgiving dinner). The "retro" feel was cozy -- from the easy background music to the LPs displayed behind the bar. On my next visit I'll sit at the bar and order pierogis which (according to my fellow diners at another table) were superb. The service is fantastic. Retro was recommended by a fellow Greenpointer. I came here for a mini birthday celebration of my Feb fab friends. Happy birthday to all the February people. Between the three of us, we ordered the borscht soup, Polish appetizer sampler, pork schnitzel, duck pierogies, and lastly a cheesecake to finish the night. I was stuffed mid-dinner but somehow the roasted potatoes kept luring me back in. Borscht soup (with mushroom dumplings) was nice and hot, great to settle my stomach that was feeling a bit off earlier in the day. Polish appetizer sampler is lovely to try a bit of everything. I really enjoyed the cabbage wrap. Duck pierogies was a first for me. Good portion sized, savory and not light on the meat. Pork schnitzel was nicely breaded, crispy and thin. The roasted potatoes on the side was so well-seasoned, no additional add-ons necessary. Cheesecake was decent, and the server delighted us with three little candles on top to celebrate. Unbeknownst to us, there's music on Friday evenings! Great mood uplifter. It was pleasant to have a guitarist playing live music, while we munch away. read more

Started with some Pierogi Ruskie (Potato & Cheese) and they were divine. Got them pan fried and the crust on them was so good, plus the lightly sweetened sour cream. Yum! For the main I got the Kotlet Schabowy (Pork Schnitzel) which was actually perfect. Super thin and very crispy, the potatoes were fresh and the egg on top was a nice touch. Cause i was obsessed..... the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogi are DELISH and we got the vegan entree kasha that was lowkey airplane food but rlly went well w the borscht and pierogis. Polish Restaurant I think they changed the name or new ownership...I liked the interior because they had comfy chairs, booth seating, not cramped like most restaurants...They also had live music while we were there which was a Sunday night...we had the chicken cutlet, duck pierogies, and duck confit with fried dumplings...The duck confit was tasty but i wish the portion was bigger or there was some gravy for the duplings to absorb, but the star of the show was the duck pierogies which were amazing...The cheesecake was dry and very forgetable. read more

Haven't been to Retro for breakfast since the takeover from Christina's .... (This review is based solely on breakfast) . In Greenpoint breakfast usually happens after child drop offs before the workday starts or casually in a day off... this place opens 9:30 so not an option for those of us who like to dine early. No worries I had my coffee at home and was eager to have a mimosa when I arrived... I ordered caramelized beets with goat cheese omelette... salad instead of home fries or French fries. Rye toast... which was delicious and came out first which was perfect as I have to eat slow and separate. Mimosa was complimentary... not sure how long that will be going on .. but a great surprise and delicious! Whatever was the choice for the sparkling champagne was perfect not too sweet or dry and was delightful with the orange juice! The disclaimer is a new chef which the waitress noted... my omelette looked pretty but the beets weren't carnelized and he had forgotten my goat cheese... half way through I questioned waitstaff to which she offered her apologies and brought me a bowl of goat cheese. The eggs were overcooked... so the omelette was quite dry... had he placed the goat cheese in the middle it definitely would have helped (my leftovers the next day with the goat cheese placed inside were notably better to their credit). Accidents happen and I feel they were patient, kind and courteous and I will try again. As I feel it's just a learning curve. Reasonably priced, nice ambiance and no rush service was well appreciated! read more

That was my second time. I ordered 'grilled mushroom' only at first to see the portion. It was small portion, so that I tried 'Polish Platter' which was a big portion and the tastes were all good! The mushroom came with bread and both were so tasty! Especially, the sourdough bread was outstanding. The Polish Platter, the server answered my request precisely and she brought it with boiled pierogis which were normally being served 'fried'. As a polish american who grew up before greenpoint was taken over by the hipsters, I missed this kind of cuisine. It is so authentic to what I grew up eating and I'm so happy this restaurant is here!!! The food is delicious. I had the chicken soup, Hungarian goulash, pasta, the mushroom sauce is delicious too!!!, pierogi. All of it was tasty. My favorite was the Hungarian goulash with the potato pancakes and the chicken schnitzel (kotlet) with mushroom sauce. I ordered takeout and the food arrived piping hot. Although delivery usually is on uber eats so any issues with delivery isn't usually a restaurant issue. Couldn't take a pic because I devoured the food! I do not leave many preview but our experience here was wonderful. We came here for lunch with a party of 7 on Saturday. We made a reservation on open table. We were greeted and sat immediately by our waitress. The restaurant is small but was busy and fun, with great music playing. It was our first time here. Our waitress gave us wonderful suggestions. Our family enjoyed most the pierogis and the potato pancakes. My husband said the Hungarian pancake was best he ever had. We had appetizers, several entrees including the Polish plate. And also we enjoyed the blintzes for dessert. Everything was fantastic. The service was very friendly and attentive. My daughter was even given some crayons and a paper to color which she loved. I have orders the sautéd cod with leak sauce! I received what looked like a fish in batter with veggies and NO leak sauce! No sauce at all of any kind! If you did get a new chef shouldn't he know or be trained to make same items as advertised on the menu. I'm not even sure it's the same kind of fish honestly ...... read more
