When Morgan the owner opened last September I stepped in and he chatted with me and gave me his and his brother Calums intention for a good neighborhood place. It's a basic, and brilliant thought, feed the area and they will come. Adding an amazing creative bartender in Justin to build a great drink menu, and bringing in Nati who builds a good vibe as partners just makes it that much better. They have a highlight dish daily. Chicken Parm, Lasagna, Fish Friday, and the storied Steak Frites on Monday make this place a special space that feels like home. Also you get to meet your neighbors and have a chat about what brought them to nyc. There isn't a bad day at Bar Nico!!!! When you order a drink here, you get a wooden token which will get you your next drink free! This happened the entire time we were there. We had a total of 4 drinks each with 2 of them each being free! That will definitely have me coming back for more. There's no other place that does that. No jukebox, but the music they played was decent. Total dive bar atmosphere. Service was fine. Love the free popcorn with fixings station. Though I am never one to pass up a dirty martini and I still have FOMO when I look at Pokito's menu now, I ended up ordering the Smoki Negroni (suntory roku gin, campari, sweet vermouth, smoked lapsang souchong black tea and orange bitters) because I had ordered a dirty martini at dinner and a negroni was feeling like the right choice for this time of night. This one was as good as any, made special by the addition of smoked lapsang souchong which I've had in cocktails a few times it always adds some rich, earthy, smoky notes to a drink. Though we weren't here for too long, Pokito made an impact. On a different night, I could easily see myself spending much more time here -- it's perfect for a late night hang with a small group.
