One of my favorite meals I've had! Everything was absolutely stellar. From the wine to the ceviche to the king oyster mushrooms to the fish! The ceviche was probably the best ceviche I've ever had in my life. It was blood orange based, but the citrus was really well balanced. The king oyster mushroom dish was soo delicious. The sauce and the texture of the mushrooms were to die for. I've salivating thinking about them right now! The fish was also so amazing. The bottoms were so crispy, it was almost like it was a layer of potato chip! Really great texture, and the fish meat was cooked to perfection. Our food experience at Nura was a bit of a mixed bag, but when I think about the total package with ambiance, environment and service, I feel like it earns four stars. It's a beautifully designed space, and we went in the evening so it was dimly lit and had good tunes, contributing to an intimate and cool vibe. The service throughout was good both by our primary server and the rest of the team that was bringing out dishes. For the food, we did not feel that it was a strong start, but the ending was great! The first dish to come out was their cornbread, which we agreed was very light and had a super tender texture, but there was just nothing special about the taste profile to us. The second dish were their prawns. We couldn't put our finger on the off-putting flavor in there, but we agreed that something just wasn't right and almost tasted spoiled. You also had to work a bit to dissect the prawns and remove the heads and skin. To work for it and then not enjoy the taste wasn't a great combo for us, unfortunately. It started turning around with their sweet potatoes, a type I'd never had before that were "baby" and purple on the outside while white inside. They served the potatoes with a gorgeously whipped Greek yogurt that added the exact right amount of tang to balance the sweet potato and the herby topping. The stars of the night were the coconut basmati rice and the lamb shank. My goodness! The rice dish was so complex from a flavor and texture profile and just hit all the right notes for us, and that lamb! Definitely one of the best lamb dishes I've had - Impossibly tender and seasoned to perfection. One other note I'll make regarding drinks is that they did not have a strong wine list. I ended up ordering a red, but later heard our waiter recommend against getting their wine to another table and suggesting their cocktails and mocktails instead. This is a very interesting menu and dining experience. The restaurant is beautiful with high ceilings and great lighting. It is definitely a menu designed for groups. I was there with just 1 friend and we asked our server how many dishes we should get. She recommended 2 small and 1 large, so we opted for the ceviche, japanese sweet potato, and the whole fish. I think we could have just done two and it would have been adequate, but I am glad we tried more dishes. The ceviche was my favorite. It was SO good and stunning, the color was incredible. I loved the pomegranate seeds too. The flavors were fantastic and worked really well together. The sweet potato was interesting. I don't think I would have ordered it again. The herby topping was a little too cilantro forwarded and overpowered the rest of the dish, and felt a little too heavy. I loved the yogurt on the side of the dish which did help to cut the heaviness. The fish was excellent. It was cooked so well so it was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. Nura is definitely a vibe when it comes to atmosphere. It's classy and feels perfect for a date night. The ambiance is beautiful, and the waitstaff is very accommodating. As for the food, the portion sizes are on the smaller side. Reading the menu, everything sounds mouthwatering, but when the dishes actually come out, the flavors don't always live up to the hype. The fluke crudo was pretty bland, and the naan, while tasty, was just one small piece. I really enjoyed the hummus, that dish had plenty of flavor. I came here for brunch with a couple of family friends over the summer, and the space itself when you enter is gorgeous. It is a high ceilinged space with tons of natural light that is let in from the huge windows. We had made reservations beforehand and I'm glad we did as it was pretty packed when we showed up. We ordered the granola, the lentil bowl, and the waffle and everything was extremely flavorful. The service wasn't too bad, but we had more than one server over the period of time we were there, and they forgot to bring us a couple of things we had asked for. This place was a 4.7 - I was so impressed with this place! I loved the vibe - it was like an elevated, artsy breezy warehouse. The service was fantastic! We got these plates to share: Roti and naan with green chili hummus (my fave), roasted carrot with a spicy date syrup and cremini mushroom yogurt - these sips were AMAZING . I could literally dip everything in these sauces. The naan was also sooo good - it's was garlicky, airy and the perfect complement with these sauces. The lamb ribs were flavorful and the meat was pretty tender. The half chicken was coated in this sweet pepper type of sauce. Both the dark and light meat was super juicy which was impressive. I also tried the marinated mushrooms and the roasted carrots. The mushrooms were so flavorful and earthy. The carrots had a good bite to them and was so colorful! The food here was so good! For a drink, I got the a little sporty which was decent but not my favorite. The prices were on the higher end but pretty in line with Brooklyn. I'll definitely be back here! The decor and ambiance are stunning - high ceilings with a beautiful industrial feel with exposed pipes and huge windows, but also thoughtfully decorated with colorful stools and warm wood pieces for a more cozy vibe. Great natural lighting and I love that the bar is centered within the space and the kitchen is open. A great, airy flow throughout the entire place. The staff members are friendly and attentive - they check in thoroughly without being overbearing. Now onto the food - simply amazing. Everything tasted fresh and exactly as described. The black sesame coconut milk beverage was refreshing and not too sweet. The Mezze platter was a refreshing start for the table - the fish was so fresh and not overly salty, the sauce was light and creamy, and the eggs were perfectly boiled. The Creole Style Kerala Curry had a nice kick to it and had perfectly poached eggs with a nice amount of onions and peppers mixed in. The Pork Vindaloo & Coconut Grits were a great dish to take off some of the heat from the curry - it was creamy and light; and also had a poached egg! Found this place on Yelp and took my cousin here for brunch. They have a beautiful modern interior with high sealing, cute yellow tables, warm natural lights, and a lot of greens. Also, every food we had was exceptional! 1. Bread Basket (5/5) - great appetizer. Cornbread and honey butter combo were yummy. 2. Leige Waffle (6/5) - this was recommended by our server and it was the best dish at NURA. The waffle was toasty, and its cream cheese whip-cream was to die for. This would be perfect as either breakfast or dessert with coffee. 3. Red Curry Pork & Coconut Grits (5/5) - I've had Thai, Indian, and Japanese curry, but this curry was completely different and unique. Everything dish was out of this world! My girls and I do a monthly dinner series where we visit a new restaurant every month. This month we chose Nura and it did not disappoint! We started with drinks - I got the Mirror Mirror number two and they got one of the orange wines. For appetizers, we got the garlic naan, roti, cornbread (it's gluten free), and the array of tips. As you can see, I got a pic of the dips but we dug into the bread too quickly to take a pic lol! We share each of the entrees and side dishes and our server paired each protein with a side dish based on which would go best together. The braised lamb with the dirty rice, the skate fish with the prawns, and the chicken with the collard greens. We loved every dish aside from the skate fish. And it's not that we didn't like it, we just had our heart set on the red snapper however it wasn't on the menu this particular night. One of my fave meals this year, the indian-mediterranean-new american fusino might be a bit of a confusing concept at first but trust it and go with it because the quality of the ingredients, the texture, and flavors were just on point. Bold, falvorful, and well-balanced. There's a ton of space inside as well as a lounge for you to wait for your table if they happen to ask you to wait. I had a lovely family style meal here with my brother and parents. We started with the Parker house rolls and the naan with the selection of dips. There was a yogurt dip, a roasted eggplant and some type of hummus. My favorite was the yogurt but they all felt tangy, acidic and bright- great compliments to the buttery, pleasantly greasy breads. We had the prawns as well, and I enjoyed dipping some bread in the oil from that plate as well. The house pickles were a nice appetizer as well, an interesting mix of pickled mango, okra and carrot, the sweetness of the vegetables were well patched by the seasoning of the pickling liquid. The next dish we tried was the lamb. It was very tender and fatty, a very rich plate with a pleasant aroma of mint and a little bite of scallion The Japanese sweet potatoes were substantial and filling and the sweetness of the potato was well countered by the verde salsa macha topping. I especially enjoyed the yogurt sauce on this plate. The chicken was juicy, but not intensely flavorful. It was a a well roasted chicken, served over sungold tomatoes and okra. Each plate felt light as any heavy element had some sort of bright and tangy compliment to match it. The flavors here were well balanced, and although no one dish particularly stood out as a "must order" it was a satisfying and dynamic meal with many different flavors and textures. We got a comfortable booth which was perfect for our toddler, thanks to their friendly staff! We got to ordering our brunch cocktails and the unanimous choice was the Smoke & Mirrors ($16) cocktail which was mezcal based. They also had a few good beers on tap, which weren't listed on the menu, not sure why! Their food menu is really interesting with a good amount of Indian fusion! We ordered a very delicious plate of Daal Tadka ($16) which disappointingly did not come with rice (so we had to order that separately). We also got a very interesting Wild Rice Brunch Bowl ($19), which was vegetarian. What peaked my interest was the Madras Curry vinaigrette which was slightly overpowered by the vinegar, but was packed with flavor in general. When I was first asked to go Nura, the name (and location) gave me the impression that it would be Japanese or pan-Asian cuisine. Realized upon looking at the menu that it is not that at all. According to the website it is "Indian-accented new American." Walking in here the ambiance was great. The music was decently loud and the interior very spacious. Tons of plants line the floor and I can imagine it to be very cute during the day since there are tons of windows and natural light would illuminate the space. In the center is a really nice bar area which could be cute for an early date/catch up with friends as well. We had a 9 pm reservation and I would recommend it for the weekend days as there were multiple parties waiting for tables. I really didn't intend to drink but the cocktails all looked so good that I had to indulge. I opted for the pretty ricky and though I'm not a cocktail fan it was delicious. Very strong and not too sweet (thank goodness). We ordered the pickles and tajin peanuts for a little snack. Pickles were delicious I don't know why but I was obsessed. Tajin peanuts were fine, could have done without them personally. Food wise we did the breads and dips (a must), lamb kofta, and half chicken. The house rolls were so very good, topped with flaky salt and buttery. My favorite of the three dips was the eggplant but a long shot. Smooth and strong garlic flavor. Lamb kofta was also solid-- no smell and topped with some herb oil. Finally the chicken! Very well cooked, tender, crispy skin and i don't know how, but flavorful as well. I will note that everything here was a bit salt heavy but if you have a cocktail or glass of wine it's a nice balance. I was concerned it wouldn't be enough food but we definitely had left overs and were too full for dessert. Pretty affordable meal as well, particularly given the ambiance and service.
