if I were to have the power of giving any restaurant, Michelin star, it would literally be this place. Not only was everything impeccable on the menu, but I was left wanting more and thinking about it for days. First of all their chopped cheese rice cakes stole the show. Within one week of hearing they opened Nowon in my neighborhood, I had to go get the chopped cheese over rice cakes in my face as fast as possible. Super chic interior, definite date spot, and fits the neighborhood quite well. Our server was great and timely! We didnt have to wait long for delicious cocktails or the amazing food. The korean fried chicken was perfect. The garlic soy sauce was balanced, the fry on the chicken was exceptional and the portion was perfect to split. The chop cheese over rice cakes (ttebboukki?) was so worth. Its one of the better things I've had at any fusion place, let alone one of the tastier things I had this outing. Nowon is such a gem, it gives 90's nostalgia, their playlist consisted of 90s HipHop & RnB so the vibes are just right. We didn't have a reservation but quickly got seats at the bar. How have I never reviewed Nowon? I've been numerous times, the food is amazing. Vibes are very cool and chic Bushwick, service has always been friendly. I genuinely believe that this was one of the best eats on my last foodie tour in New York. I had seen a video on instagram showing all of the yummy bites and knew as soon as I saw that chopped cheese rice cakes that I had to try it for myself. I was truly impressed and when I try a new restaurant I like to rate based on the food, the intention of the restaurant, and the overall experience. Honestly Nowon got a 5/5 from me. Let's start with the tasting menu, and what a bargain that a 7 course meal was $55/pp! All of the bites were nicely executed, and the service was top tier. I genuinely loved the yuzu ricotta toast and loved it with the addition of the chili oil, it was truly like nothing I've ever tasted! The tots and the cucumber were also pretty highly rated but the chopped cheese rice cakes alone were a show stopper. The creativity, bringing together Korean and the vibes of New York really did it for me! Really well done and I was so full I wasn't able to even finish the kimchi burger but from the bites I had it was also really yummy. Amazing staff: our waitress was so helpful with recommendations and explanations of the menu. Indoor outdoor seating available. No heat lamps for outdoor seating, so cold weather might not prove to be the best time for outdoor dining. The place fills up quickly. Super loud. Not best for first dates. We came in at 5:30 on a Saturday without reservations and sat outside right away. We were one of the first ones to arrive for the night. By 6:30 PM the place was full. We got "the mixtape": a pre set menu set for $49 per person, enjoyed family style per table. Everything was superb. Whipped ricotta tart stole the show: super light and flavorful--I'd eat this daily if I could. The ricotta felt like a dreamy, delicate cloud. The toasted focaccia was divine--super light and airy. This was the unexpected standout for me. Lamb skewers were melt in your mouth delicate. Woooow what punch of flavor! Slightly sweet. Would eat this nonstop if I could. General Le's fried chicken was spicy: our sinuses cleared right up. Super crunchy. The meat was all thigh dark meat. A bit dried up: too fried. But that spicy sweet sauce amped up the taste. I've charted the rise of Nowon from mere pop up at the Black Emperor Bar in 2019 serving their famous honey butter tater tots, to their successful East Village opening and subsequent Bushwick location in a former pizzeria, whose pizza oven they inherited, and have been a fan all the way. Sweet and savory is not new to most people these days, but when Koreans put honey butter chips and tots on the map it was still novel, and that sealed its place as a great eatery for me. I don't eat red meat, but you should know they're known for their burger and chopped cheese rice cakes, which everyone I've introduced them to has sung the praises of. Their Bushwick location with the aforementioned pizza oven they were grandfathered into keeping legally, allows them to sling some pretty solid pies, including one with gochuchang, mozzarella, chili oil, and basil, and another with pepperoni, scallion, and sesame seeds. Decor wise, they went for a cross between industrial canteen and museum, with neon back lit art framing the dining area in a really cool way. Great for a casual Saturday night hang. read more

Made a quick trip to see my daughter and I finally got to go to Nowon which is an Asian inspired restaurant that has a wild eclectic menu . I had been wanting to go just because of the world famous( at least in New York) burger. We got the tasting menu and I have a picture of what's on it , so I don't have to describe every dish. It's always fun to taste and try everything and this was no different. It's definitely a happening spot. My favorites were the pizza and burger. I have never had Kimchi on a burger and it was crazy good as was the pizza. Not at all what I expected and I'm glad I went. Now to find our next culinary adventure! Perfect date night spot! My girlfriend and I split the caesar salad, yuzu ricotta toast, broccolini, and tater tots. I only got a picture of the ricotta toast because we ate everything else so fast!! We came on a Saturday afternoon around 3 with no reservations. We were seated immediately and accommodated to a preferred table. Our waiter was Josh, the kindest most polite and friendly person. Josh recommended all great dishes and drinks which is probably why our experience was top tier. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with an open kitchen and bar at the front. All the staff were friendly and seemed to work very well together. The food was mind blowing, dish after dish it just kept getting better. The star of the show is most definitely the chopped cheese followed closely by the burger then last but not least the kimchi cucumbers. This was hands down an amazing dining experience. The vibes were pretty immaculate for this dinner reservation! They have an epic tasting menu meant for parties of 2 or more that features six courses at $49 a person. What a deal! TLDR: A Korean American gastropub, same one from the East Village but much easier to get to if you drove. Gotta get the cheeseburger, chopped cheese rice cakes. They have set menus to make things simpler with their best dishes. I'm a fan of Nowon. I tried the EV one a long time ago but Bushwick is so much easier to get to for us. I'd normally just go with the EP but we did a la carte this last time. The caesar with the black sesame is great. It's refreshing, especially because most of the mains are on the heavier side. Nice textures, especially with the panko crumbs. If you're getting one thing, it has to be the Legendary Cheeseburger. Toasted sesame bun, double patties, kimchi sauce. It's tangy, juicy and a perfect burger. The tater tots are awesome because who doesn't like tater tots. I'd stick with the honey butter garlic. I also love the chopped cheese rice cakes. It's like a Korean/NYC classic with chewy rice cakes, cheesy sauce. It's very satisfying to bite through. I'd stick with the set menus if it's your first time. Nowon was the perfect spot to celebrate my 30th birthday with friends. I had the dry aged truffle burger (medium rare) with an egg and it was incredible rich flavorful and cooked perfectly. I also started with the seared shrimp skewers which were just as good. The vibes were on point with hip hop music playing and a projector showing music videos from the 90s to current hits which I loved. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive even while we waited for the rest of our group she constantly checked in made sure we were good and refilled our waters and kept the table clean. The extraordinary tater tots, and chopped cheese rice cakes were some of my favourites. You definitely feel the fusion of this establishment when you come in with the bar/club ambience! I have been to their other location in East Village and enjoyed going to each! I have had a variety of dishes which I enjoyed here that include the Charred Broccolini A La 'Caesar', 'Chopped Cheese' Rice Cakes, Extraordinary Honey Butter Tater Tots, and Spicy Gochujang Fried Chicken. My favorites from those are definitely the Charred Broccolini and Rice Cakes. The Caesar dressing on the broccolini is perfect for me and the rice cakes with the cheese on it are a great way of eating it for anybody that is a cheesy fan! For the pizza, they have many Korean-inspired types and I have not had a bad one yet! Their star of the show here in my opinion is the cheeseburger. The hostess was a lovely guy however we wanted to sit at a table but we were not able to sit even tho there are many empty tables maybe because of the time? Okay I was extremely excited to try this place - the menu looked really cool and different from other r restaurants. I got the ricotta chili oil toast which was good but the whipped ricotta was a little too runny and the chili oil flavor was a little subtle I got the honey tots which were good - def the best thing we ordered. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the food at Nowon! Everything was delicious! For a group larger than 6 people, they do require you to choose one of their mixtapes - which is like a tasting menu. They offer the EP (5 course, $42/person) or the Classic (7 course, $52/person). We opted for their Classic mixtape. The mixtape is a nice option which allows you to try some of their signature dishes. Unfortunately, I don't eat beef so I couldn't eat 2/7 dishes. However, there was still plenty of food and I left feeling very full. Our favorite dishes of the night were the charred broccolini a la Caesar, the whipped ricotta toast, and nowon soy garlic chicken. Someone from our table did say the chopped cheese rice cakes tasted like hamburger helper. On top of the mixtape, we ordered the Bushwick Buldak pizza which was also delicious!
