A solid meal, though I think it may be overhyped. The famed lasagna was good but I wouldn't make the trek to ridgewood for it. My personal favorite was the pork chop and leek. Fried green tomato with tuna tartare: the mayo overpowered the tuna but complemented the tomato. Polenta bread was not memorable and not worth the price.
This Ridgewood neighborhood bistro open since 2020 has been a hotspot since its opening, churning out an incredible range of items from their wood fired oven. Their spirit forward cocktails appear dainty but pack a punch. My favorite was the salty Manhattan with Amontillado sherry and orange bitters to balance out the bonded rye. Do not gloss over the veggies on the menu. The wood fired leeks had a great char with a sweet romesco sauce spiced with marjoram. The exquisite scallop carpaccio comes in razor thin slices garnished with strawberries and seasoned with Thai basil. The iconic war potatoes are not as spicy as I imagined but crispy and richly flavored with peanut satay sauce and fragrant Kaffir leaf atop a creamy aioli. The unique Mrs. Crispy is a brunch staple at Rolo's and can easily be shared between two people. It consists of poached eggs, melted cheddar and ham served over their signature polenta flatbread flavored with Calabrian chili. Rolo's is an NYC icon for a reason.
A cute and cozy brunch spot right on the Queens/Brooklyn border. The burger was easily our favorite -- the bread was fresh and soft, the patties were well seasoned, and the caramelized onions were actually caramelized (you know how rare that is). Don't sleep on the polenta bread either -- it had this amazing mochi-like texture, kind of like a pizza without toppings, which sounds weird but just works. For dessert, we went with the passion fruit crème caramel and the flavor was spot on, though we wouldn't have said no to a bigger portion. The staff were attentive and genuinely friendly throughout. Solid brunch spot worth the trip!
This is just a short update to my other reviews regarding my most recent brunch visit. I was here for brunch a while back and had an opportunity to try their excellent $20 Double Cheeseburger, which comes with grilled onions, dijonnaise, and pickled long hot. This was worth the hype and easily the best thing here. The burger was very juicy, the cheese and dijonnaise added a slightly sour twang, and the grilled onions added a touch of sweetness. The pickled long hot on the side was a fun idea to add a bit of spice and extra sourness when needed, and reminded me of how they serve similar peppers with the rich pitas at the various locations of Miznon. Would recommend heavily, and if you want a side of fries, order the $12 'war style' which comes with a delicious mix of peanut sauce and kewpie mayo. The only thing missing from the brunch menu is some of the dips for their polenta bread If I had to recommend something here, it would be brunch. I still don't think most of the dishes are worth it, and this is especially true for the mains, so stick with appetizers and burgers.
We went for an early reservation and got to taste one of the burgers, between the group of us but wished we had ordered two! However they only have a limited amount each night. All the food was great, portion sizes arent very big so between four people you can definitely order a few dishes. The lasagne was incredible and the chili bread, basically anything from the huge pizza oven! Staff were nice. The restaurant filled up really quickly which made it noisy and waiting for the restroom a bit of an effort.
Put my name down on a weekend for two, and got seated in about 30 minutes - we definitely got lucky! Food: We tried the olive oil and flaky salt polenta bread, and I thought it was good but nothing out of the ordinary (tasted a bit like fluffy pizza crust). We did however love the malfadine fennel pasta and famous two sheet lasagna! Service: Our service didn't feel like anything special, and our final receipt was completely messed up so overall not necessarily a stellar experience. Vibe: I really appreciate the ambiance and decor, but the music was a bit too loud.
I dined here with another Yelp Elite on the evening of 1/24/26. We started off our meal with a pair of cocktails, made by the talented bartender Diondre'. I had a Zombie, which was made of three different rums. My dining partner had a Cosmopolitan. Neither drink was potent. We ordered the Calabrian Chili Butter Wood-Fired Polenta Bread (2/5 stars), Two Sheet Lasagna Verde Bolognese (5/5 stars), Crispy Potatoes "War Style" (3/5 stars), Double Cheeseburger (4/5 stars), Brown Butter Apple Tarte with Whipped Crème Fraîche (2/5 stars), Salted Caramel Chocolate Mousse (3/5 stars) and the Burnt Cinnamon Ice Cream (5/5 stars). My recommendation is to get the lasagna. It was my favorite entrée because it was sweet, salty, creamy and earthy--easily one of the best lasagnas that I have ever had. Do try the burnt cinnamon ice cream because it is incredibly rich, umami and creamy. Multiple waiters served us, and Hannah was my favorite. IMHO, she was the most hospitable. The vibe was cozy, and there was a constant atmosphere of loud music and dining partners enjoying their food and drink.
1/24/26. Dre was an awesome bartender, offering suggestions! He was so personable, unlike our hostess, Alex!! The cocktails were good but far from strong. The chili polenta bread was light and fluffy, good, not amazing. We got there early just to get the burger, which was flavorful but also greasy. The lasagna verde was better, so creamy. It would have been perfect if it was served hot, and had more filling/meat sauce spread evenly. Sauce was just placed in the center and too much oil was drizzled on top. Their fries were awesome, had great texture, but did not like the war sauces at all. For dessert, the cinnamon ice cream was the star by far. I wasn't a fan of their bestseller, the apple pie tart. Maybe it would've been better if it was served warm or had more apples. Didn't like it. The mousse was average/basic. Service was cold and could have def been better. Based on all the hype, I was expected to be blown away with the food and service. Sadly, I was not with either.
Finally made it here early on a Saturday. The place was bumpin! I was able to snag a seat at the bar and the bartenders were both absolute gems! I love the welcoming vibes and decor here. I hated that the bar seats have no back but we have bigger things to worry about. They gladly took my coat to the office although there isn't a coat check, lol thanks! I got a spicy pineapple margarita. It was good but not a life changing cocktail. Then I ordered THE burger. Yes, it's worth the hype. It's more of a smash burger type patties. Seasoned wonderfully & not too much crap on top. My one issue is the bun...I wish it was tad more dense to hold up to the burger. Not sure if this makes sense? Without a doubt goes in my top 10 burgers in NYC. I also ordered the lasagna because I needed to make the trip worth it. I liked it but I rather old school lasagna! Sorry but $32 for that and I barely had meat...I don't know it wasn't the 2 sheets of deliciousness I was anticipating. I do think it's worth trying once! I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu and burger again. I was too stuffed for dessert but I'll be back for that too.
Been on a burger quest lately and I have to say Rolos definitely tops the list. Better than almost all the other burger spots this tops the chart at number 3 just under Peter Lugers and red hook tavern. The food is unique with an interesting twist. The war style potatoes are spicy and the French toast was incredible. Highly recommend you arrive early as they have limited number of burgers available daily.
Made it to Rolo's finally. The space feel very warm and inviting. The 2 Sheet Lasagna lived up the hype!! War Style Potato was delicious, but I'd do the sauce on the side to keep my potato ultra crispy. Calabrian Chili Polenta bread - I'm still dreaming about this! Probably my favorite dish. Pesto Malfaldine was pretty good, the pollen flavor was quite unexpected. Def worth a try!
We arrived at 4:30 to sip cocktails at the bar while waiting for a table when their dinner service opened up. For food, we got the double cheeseburger with bacon, Calabrian chili bread, pickled carrots, two sheet lasagna, and wagyu steak. I loved the lasagna - that was my favorite dish by far. Also the pickled carrots. I will say that the meat on the burger and in the steak was on the salty side. I thought the bacon would be thick cut on the burger but it was just regular bacon lol. The burger was still fantastic. My friend enjoyed the steak but i thought it was too chewy and also only somehow got medium-to-medium well pieces even though she was eating medium rare. The last thing I'll say is that the music was turned up quite loud so it's a bit hard to hear conversation.

Maybe I was starving, maybe it had just been a long day, or maybe it really was the best meal I've had in quite some time. We ordered the Polenta Bread w/olive oil and sea salt, the spring pea salad, the famed two sheet lasagna and the pork chop w/leeks. The polenta bread reminded me of a moister, chewier and softer pizza dough. The spring pea salad was fresh, crunchy, fragrant and refreshing. The lasagna was everything you'd hope it to be and the pork chop is a standout! They also top everything with maldon sea salt so I was a happpppy girl. Service is also amazing, our server was kind and all of the bussers were incredibly observant. 12/10 would recommend, the vibes are immaculate. read more
Returned for dinner after a few years and it's still 5 stars for me. This time, I tried: + Calabrian chili butter polenta bread + Leafy green and herb salad + Rigatoni + Lasagne verde bolognese + Pork tbone + Rhubarb almond tart + Black Forest ice cream cake Top highlights were the lasagne and pork. Salad, rigatoni and desserts were also great. Can skip the bread. read more

Rolo's absolutely lives up to the hype. I've been twice now, and everything I've ordered has been excellent. The food is incredibly well seasoned, thoughtfully prepared, and very fairly priced for the quality. You can tell there is real intention behind every dish. The whole vibe feels very The Bear in the best way possible: focused, hardworking people turning out genuinely great food without any pretension. It has that energy where everyone seems fully dialed in on creating a great experience. I'm still thinking about some of the dishes and already want to go back to try their well-known double cheeseburger, which I've heard is outstanding and often sells out early. Definitely make a reservation because this place books up quickly. Consistently excellent food, welcoming atmosphere, and the kind of restaurant you want to keep returning to. read more

Went to Rolo's for Mother's Day and we were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and well informed about what was on the menu. The food was delicious and fresh I had the green lasagna. The decor and music was tasteful. read more

Came for weekend brunch and had a great experience. Our server was conversational, kind, and answered all of our questions and gave us recommendations for the table, how we could split/share, and let us split itemized - Very appreciated!! The space is large, though our party had a corner booth which was a bit tight for 8. The food was delicious - Take recommendations on apps from your server. The Mrs. Crispy was a large serving, but I was able to eat the whole thing and was not bloated. The egg was cooked perfectly, meat was crispy, and the drink were great too! read more
Once again Rolo's does not disappoint and only delights. From staff and cocktails to polenta bread (Calabrian chili) and salad to mains: best lasagna, amazing pork tbone and branzino to dessert: coconut sorbet and passion fruit crème caramel to Forthave aperitif and espresso and cappuccino. Always delicious and comfortable and welcoming. read more
Wonderful spot in Ridgewood. Great bar service with delicious cocktails. Can't go wrong with any of their Margaritas. Loved the mortadella as a appetizer and would go great with wine and some good company to share with. Definitely go for the steak as the have a certain amount each night and if it's available it's a must. Smokey with lots of flavor and super tender with a great butter compound on top. Good service and great atmosphere for after work or a weekend dinner. Would go again. read more
I went at 4:55 pm right before opening on a Saturday and was able to snag a bar seat. The restaurant was pretty full by 5:10 pm. If you want a seat, go a few minutes before opening. If you want a burger, you will need to get to dinner between 5 and 6 pm. Order right away or just let your server know to reserve a burger for you, because they will sell out. The burger meat was very soft and it definitely had a charred flavor. I didn't think that it was that messy of a burger. It held together pretty well. It was a good burger, and it was not greasy. My husband said it is the best burger he has had. The two sheet lasagna was very good. Lasagna was soft, cheese was melted and beef was tasty. I ordered the fries, aka potato wedges with war style sauce. It was mayo with spicy ?satay sauce. Sauce on the side and mixed the two together, chefs kiss. The crispy potatoes were very crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Great place. Would come back to try their polenta bread. read more
It really is that good. It's one of those restaurants where every aspect is executed well, and I think Carmy Berzatto would have appreciated it! The space is straight out of an interior decorating magazine, and the service is warm and helpful. Getting to watch the kitchen work their signature wood-fired oven was especially cool! The food was fantastic. Got an early rez to try the burger, and it was reallllly good - easily a top-tier NYC burger. Perfectly rich and flavorful, with a great sauce and onions. IMO, it is worth it to go earlier to try the burger! The lasagna was so good with a super unique char and creamy bechamel bolognese. Got a tasty special for dessert, Passionfruit Creme Caramel. The only nitpick was that it was a bit small and could have had a stronger passionfruit flavor, but even without, it was a delicious custard. Incredible food in a fabulous space, super worth it. I already cannot wait to come back and try everything else; I'm sure it will be amazing. read more
Rolo's is worth the hype! The lasagna and burger are both stand out items that you must get! The service was fantastic with servers checking in time to time. We started the night with the sesame and wild oregano flatbread, which was soft and airy. The burger sold out by like 5:30pm so be there early for it. The burger was hands down the best burger I have had! It was surprisingly so light, we finished it so fast. The meat was so tender and everything was so balanced. The lasagna was very unique - some parts were crispy and some parts were soft. Every bite was a new experience. I have seen some comments saying there isn't enough sauce so I was a bit skeptical, but I felt like the amount of sauce was perfect. It's only two sheets of lasagna so if you are expecting the same amount of sauce as a normal lasagna, then that's where there would be a disconnect. My friends thought it was the best lasagna they have ever had! The wagyu steak was tender, but there were some parts that were a bit raw so it was somewhat chewy in those areas. I didn't mind it too much. The green garlic butter was amazing though! We kept it light with a coconut lime sorbet and chocolate malt ice cream to finish. Both were great ways to finish the meal. I highly recommend Rolo's for a date or a meal with a group of friends! read more

We lucked out with a quick table seating at Rolos in Ridgewood during the busy part of Saturday night, a busy neighborhood casual spot with good cocktails and a friendly vibe. The menu hits the right notes for an impromptu a quick hangout with friends. We especially enjoyed the woodfired polenta bread and delicious leafy greens herb salad as starters while we awaited our drinks. The three of us opted for pasta and paired the prosciutto di Parma with the ricotta cavatelli with pecorino cream corn and black pepper, which had a good balance of flavor and texture. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and our server was happy to point us toward crowd-pleaser cocktails we might not have tried otherwise. The space feels cozy with simple decor that makes it easy to settle in for a relaxed meal. A few tweaks could push it from very good to excellent - a broader menu selection and a few more vegetarian options - but overall the experience is reliable and welcoming. If you're in the area and craving solid comfort food with friendly service, Rolos is worth a stop. read more
Loved the ambiance in here! We were seated in the back next to the open kitchen and wood fire oven. It is such a great date night spot! I usually don't like New American cuisine but this was really good and had me reevaluating my stance! For three people we ordered: - chili butter polenta bread: 10/10 omg it was so chewy and delicious, almost like naan - fluke crudo: we wanted something acidic to break up the richness of the meal, but this was just ok. I would have rather ordered a salad - cheese burgers: one of my favorite burgers! It is on the smaller side but so delicious with a great char and smokiness. I can see how people might think this is a little salty but I loved it! When we ordered on a Tuesday night around 6:45 they still had 6 burgers left. Would definitely come back for the burger alone. - war potatoes: the dark horse of the meal! I was so skeptical because I hate mayo but the peanut sauce has lime leaf in it and the mayo adds richness. I really enjoyed this and would order it again! - two sheet lasagna: 6/10 this was what I wanted to try the most but it also disappointed me the most. Maybe because it wasn't super hot when we got it, but I really didn't get the hype. I probably wouldn't get this again. - burnt cinnamon ice cream: was a generous portion of ice cream! Tasted like horchata Overall, it was one of the best meals I've had in a while and was pretty reasonably priced for the quality and ambiance! Can't wait to go back! read more

Finally made it into Rolo's with a friend and to be honest now, I see what the hype is about. We went during the evening and the mood was relaxed and just right. Perfect for a date night or just catching up with a friend; which is what we did. We shared everything, and this was definitely the move. Their plates are large and shareable. First, you have to get the wood-fired polenta bread with the stracciatella. The bread was warm and it has that perfect char. We split two pastas. The Mafaldine was delicious and unlike anything I've had before. The walnut and broccoli rabe pesto proved to be a great pairing. The standout for me, though, was the two-sheet lasagna. It's a beef and pork bolognese, and because it's only composed of two large sheets of pasta, it's all about that crispy edge and saucy interior. I also picked up an Apple Highball drink. If you like cider, you'll love it. It is crisp and not overly sweet, which paired great with all the heavy food. It's the type of place you want to sit around all day. Definitely going back. Side note: I did have the salted caramel chocolate mousse for dessert. It was great but I forgot to take a photo. read more

Had an incredible meal at Rolo's to kick off the new year. I was very impressed by their burger and thought it was well worth the price of having to eat at 5pm. The peanut chili + mayo combo on the war fries also was a standout. Polenta bread and persimmon salad were great also. Unfortunately the item I wouldn't get again would be the two sheet lasagna, I personally prefer a thinner noodle. Cocktails were great and we had the apple tart for dessert which was a great way to cap off the meal! read more

I was brought here for my birthday dinner last night. I live 4 blocks away so I've wanted to try this place out for a while. With all of the hype I was pretty excited! I highly suggest making your reservations a few weeks in advance. Spots get filled up quickly. I think they put their reservation calendar out a month in advance. We came for a 6:45 spot on a blustery Friday evening. The place was hopping, but not at capacity. We were a party of 3 and were seated promptly at one of the 2 booths to the left as soon as you come in. The ambiance is chill and cozy. Dimly lit. Very noisy. We were sitting right next to the bar so maybe thats why but we had trouble hearing our own conversation the whole night. Rolo's has a fairly small and interesting menu. Come with a fat wallet because the prices can get steep! I know they only set aside a limited amount of beef for the burgers and steaks so I didnt have my hopes up that I'd be able to get a burger at 6:45. Well as soon as the waiter came to the table he immediately announced that they still had burgers and steaks to order. I immediately said I wanted one even before we ordered. We started off with the Calabrian chili butter and olive oil & flaky salt wood-fired polenta bread. The breads were light and fluffy. I preferred the chili butter one. Had a nice but not overpowering kick. The olive oil one was a bit too salty for my likings. To drink, I had the Flightless Bird. It was a delicious mocktail that consisted of non-alcoholic aperitif, pineapple, lime and cinnamon. That drink was outstanding. So refreshing, even on a bitterly cold night. I downed 2 of those. The burger, I'll just get right to it. It lived up to the hype. Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had. You can get bacon on it, but I chose not to. It was a cheeseburger with grilled onions and dijonaise. Came with a huge pickled long hot pepper on the side. Kind of weird, but the acidity from the pepper did a good job balancing out the fat from the burger. I honestly couldnt even tell there was anything else on the burger, thats how good that meat tasted. When all you can taste is the fabulous, well-seasoned beef, you know you did a good job! The bun kept it's shape and didnt fall apart. Was it worth the $20? Sure, but you'd think you'd get a substantial side with it. Not just a pepper. We ordered the crispy potatoes "war style" on the side. Good thing! They had great texture but, like the bread, was way too salty. There were about 5 potatoes left that we were still eating. They didn't even ask if we were done. They just took it away. That annoyed me! For dessert I had the coconut lime sorbet. It definitely tasted more like an ice cream. It was really good. Very interesting flavor, and cleansed my palate nicely after the burger. They overheard that it was my birthday and put a lit candle in my sorbet which was thoughtful of them. Would I come back to Rolo's? I would, but not anytime soon. The quality of the food is definitely worth the prices but the portions of most of the food leave a lot to be desired. My friends were adamant on trying this spot and hyped up the spot and I was quite excited to try it out. Now that I've had it, I can happily say that I have added it to my list to return to! I had organized a birthday surprise for my friends and the staff were wonderful and so kind in the way they handled it. I had 2 cakes as there were 2 birthdays and they were so kind to help store it and even time it properly so that our friends would be surprised. We had several items to share including the snap pea salad, calabrian chili butter on wood fried polenta, two sheet lasagna verde bolognese, wagyu beef skirt steak, and cheesy potato croquettes. My favorite dishes were the snap pea salad and their lasagna. The salad was so full of flavors and interesting textures that all balanced each other out. I would return for just the salad. The lasagna was also really unique and I wish there was more of it because I found myself eating it constantly. We also tried some of their drinks which were really quite yummy. I thought the polenta bread and croquette was alright, they are not items I'd get again. Their cheeseburger is also quite famous I had heard but unfortunately, they had sold out right before I arrived. The staff were just wonderful and I can't thank them enough for their hospitality. All the food was pretty delicious. Everything was fresh and well cooked. i liked that the menu is basic but slightly unique. I wouldn't come out of my way to come here again but i really enjoyed the meal. The lasagna was the best thing here! Finally got a res and was soo excited - this has been on my list for a while. Casual and cool when you walk in - groups and people on dates. Service was great - waiter was attentive and helpful but not overbearing. Not one bad bite the entire night. From the polenta bread to the steak special and everything in between was delicious. If you want a burger you need to be there early (for the seating you've booked). We ordered 2 burgers in our group, and saw a couple nearby that were told they were sold out.
