This has become one of my favorite restaurants! There's a fun food and drink menu and everything we ordered was so good. My favorite dishes were the honey butter tater tots and the whipped ricotta toast. The honey butter tater tots were so good that we had to order a second round for the table. Everything else we had was delicious too. We tried the japchae noodles, rice cakes, cucumber salad, and pizza. I also ordered the soju flight which was fun! They had two different kinds of soju flights to choose from. The server was so nice and funny, we had such a great time here. It's a fun place to grab dinner before a night out on the weekend. I've been to the Manhattan location of Nowon and enjoyed both but was really excited to try the pizza in buskwick. The Korean gastropub food is delicious and goes down nicely with a drink! The extraordinary tater tots, and chopped cheese rice cakes were some of my favourites. The whipped ricotta toast was one of the first dishes we were served but it felt like it should have been a dessert. I shared one of the legendary burgers with a friend as it was too much for just me, but the flavor was really good and satisfying. We had the master p pizza, which had a good mix of toppings like pepperoni, jalapeno and had a little bit of a kick to it. The place is pretty large but was really bustling on a Saturday. Nowon is great! Both locations are delcious! This Korean gastropub has American-style dishes that are Korean-inspired. You definitely feel the fusion of this establishment when you come in with the bar/club ambience! I have been to their other location in East Village and enjoyed going to each! I have had a variety of dishes which I enjoyed here that include the Charred Broccolini A La 'Caesar', 'Chopped Cheese' Rice Cakes, Extraordinary Honey Butter Tater Tots, and Spicy Gochujang Fried Chicken. My favorites from those are definitely the Charred Broccolini and Rice Cakes. The Caesar dressing on the broccolini is perfect for me and the rice cakes with the cheese on it are a great way of eating it for anybody that is a cheesy fan! For the pizza, they have many Korean-inspired types and I have not had a bad one yet! Their star of the show here in my opinion is the cheeseburger. The "Legendary Cheeseburger" is soooooo good with the combination of a typical American-style cheeseburger with kimchi favors. I could eat this burger over and over! It was around 10pm Wednesday, we were group of 3. The hostess was a lovely guy however we wanted to sit at a table but we were not able to sit even tho there are many empty tables maybe because of the time? We had to order for the last order in 10 mins we were told. However, another party slight came in- they got a table after us. Just made us slightly feel something. Anyway, the entire place was lit, cool inside, outdoor sheets looks nice in the warmer weather. The honey butter tater tots was nice! I tried Legendary cheeseburger was great taste! Just a one thing I was disappointed of the bartender lady's unfriendly behavior that I ordered the burger well-done. She mentioned that is bc smashed it won't be well done. But it should be heated inside. when it came out inside was red and still not warmed enough. I told her to heat up again politely but she showed irritation that she has mentioned about it. Okay I was extremely excited to try this place - the menu looked really cool and different from other r restaurants. I got the ricotta chili oil toast which was good but the whipped ricotta was a little too runny and the chili oil flavor was a little subtle I got the honey tots which were good - def the best thing we ordered. I ordered the spiced curry tots, aged steak burger, and my friend ordered the honey garlic tots and legendary burger. The tots were $12 each, the steak burger $27, and legendary burger $21. Needless to say, this place is expensive! Honestly, this restaurant is more of a 3.5/5 score. The food was good but I don't think the taste matches the price. The spiced curry tots didn't taste like anything special. The clear loser of the meal. At least they were crispy. The honey garlic tots on the other hand were delicious. No ketchup necessary! They should put that sauce on a burger. They were also perfectly crispy. As for the burger, it was good. It was deceptively big. It's juicy and the kimchi adds a unique flavor to it. I had it cooked to medium well which certainly helped. I was full by the time I finished my meal. I do wish the burger and tots came at the same time. With that all said, I may be one and done with Nowon. I enjoyed the food but not the price. I'd only come back if someone I knew wanted to try it. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the food at Nowon! Everything was delicious! For a group larger than 6 people, they do require you to choose one of their mixtapes - which is like a tasting menu. They offer the EP (5 course, $42/person) or the Classic (7 course, $52/person). We opted for their Classic mixtape. The mixtape is a nice option which allows you to try some of their signature dishes. Unfortunately, I don't eat beef so I couldn't eat 2/7 dishes. However, there was still plenty of food and I left feeling very full. Our favorite dishes of the night were the charred broccolini a la Caesar, the whipped ricotta toast, and nowon soy garlic chicken. Someone from our table did say the chopped cheese rice cakes tasted like hamburger helper. On top of the mixtape, we ordered the Bushwick Buldak pizza which was also delicious! Walked in here with no reservation (ballsy I know). Luckily we only had to wait 15 minutes before snagging 2 seats at the bar. This spot looks so fun legit like a club with all the neon light and cool decor. I had put off coming here for so many months because after moving out from Bushwick in August 2023 I never wanted to return. Unfortunately the L train was down the weekend I went which dampened the experience a bit with exorbitant uber prices, but the meal saved my night. We did two EP mixtapes with five dishes: baby kale salad, fried chicken, chopped cheese rice cakes, honey garlic butter tots, and the legendary cheeseburger. Every dish was great, even (especially?) the salad... which they accidentally gave us two of. If I had to choose, I would've had two of the chopped cheese - SO yummy. For drinks, we ordered the lychee keen and the eazy-e. I'd pick the lychee keen over the eazy-e, personally. I would've drank more but I was so full so I'm glad I stuck to one. My only negative points was it is SO loud in there. At the same time, though, I can appreciate that they are trying to curate a club vibe. They even brought out sparklers for someone's birthday, and allegedly have drinking games you can explore. They're so lucky I had an amazing meal because I would've been pissed about the noise. We specifically came to the bushwick location because they had pizza but sadly the pizza was just ok. We got the one with pepperoni and it tasted like a basic pepperoni pizza but slightly sweeter. Be warned its a soft crust and not the ny style thin crust so all of the toppings kept trying to slide off. We also got the dry aged burger that was limited but this didnt taste any different from a regular burger to be costing $27. We couldn't taste any kimchi in it and for some reason the meat was cold? Maybe they let it rest for a while before assembling the burger since its a steak...I did try their chicken sandwich in the past and that was AMAZING. I recommend thag instead of their burgers. The best dish was the tater tots. They actually tasted unique and was a mix of salty and sweet from the spicy honey sauce. Walked in around 5pm on a Friday night. It was pretty dead around that time, but it picked up while we were there. It got busy and definitely louder. They also turned down the lights for a more gastropub atmosphere. Ordered the seasonal cocktail. The pomegranate whisky sour was great. Didn't taste any whisky at all. Sweet with a bit of sour. It was fruity, but it didn't really taste like pomegranate. We weren't super hungry, so we only got a few things to share. The Nowon fried chicken, soy garlic was so disappointing. It wasn't crispy at all, and there really wasn't a strong garlic or a soy taste. The only thing that really made it okay was that there was a spicy chili sauce the waitress recommended for us. Legendary cheeseburger was probably the best item of the night. The burger was juicy and cooked a medium rare. However, there wasn't much on it. I wanted more kimchi and a stronger kimchi punch. I desperately wanted to love this place. Maybe the style of Korean-American they serve just isn't for me. We had the cheese cut rice cakes, honey garlic tots, japchae, and galbi. CHEESE CUT RICE CAKES: Tasted closer to macaroni and cheese. I was hoping it would be a closer equivalent to tteokbokki. Could have done without the beef and with a bit more spice. Sadly, disappointed. HONEY GARLIC TOTS: Arguably the best thing we ate tonight. Crispy, sweet, with a little bit of a kick from the garlic. JAPCHAE: Eh. Passable but didn't have the quintessential sesame flavour I crave from japchae. Also, would have preferred it cold to warm. The OG style. GALBI: A very small portion. Personally I wasn't impressed by the portion relative to the quality of the beef. The fingerling potatoes weren't good. Very dry. As if they were over-boiled. During our first visit, Audrey was so sweet and conversational and took great care of us. In fact, the whole staff at this Nowon location was fantastic. Emptied plates vanished within moments, our water pitcher never ran empty, and every single person we interacted with had spunk and pizazz. Maybe it's a Brooklyn thing? Whoever's doing the hiring here knows what's up. We've since been back with friends, and our experience was all-around just as delightful as before: luscious libations, decadent food, and super service. It had only been a few months in between visits, but I think the cocktail menu had already been revised -- my memory could very well be faulty, but I didn't recall any of the drink options that we'd had before. Highlights of our meals included the honey garlic tots and their wood-fired pizzas. We've sampled the Bushwick Buldak and the Banban Burrata and both slapped (is that how you use this word?). I think I mildly preferred the buldak, with its fiery chicken, but I would absolutely be happy to chow down on any of their Korean-inspired pies. The other surprise winner was the broccolini a la caesar. I'm a sucker for caesar anything, but broccolini's a new caesar delivery device to me! After tucking in a bite, I decided I could happily make a meal out of this one dish alone. Oh, and the only kind of crème brûlée I ever want to eat again must be black sesame. That's how we closed out our meal and this is the new standard by which I will judge all other caramelized custards. I bestowed my highest Asian praise upon this dessert: not too sweet. My one nit is that the music was cranked up a bit too loud for my preference. We were seated at the back table directly under a speaker, and it made conversation challenging without having to yell at one another. It's a pretty lively, club vibe, and I might just be old and cranky, but it detracted from the otherwise flawless experience. I don't recall the volume being an issue when we were seated near the bar area, so it's possible we ran into some bad luck with our most recent seating assignment. My group of 7 showed up around 6:30 PM and got a table at 9:30 PM. We showed up early and had to wait about twenty extra minutes to be seated. With the lighting and music, the vibes were definitely there. However, was the food worth it in the end? Yes, Jae's Chicken Bun is the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. It's the perfect portion, and all the flavors just mingle so well together. The Matcha Oasis was super creamy, and you wouldn't think that a hint of pineapple flavor would be good in it, but it was the best mocktail I've ever had. We made a reservation a week or so in advance for a party of 6 and it was pretty crowded when we arrived. They have a bar in the front and then tables further back. The atmosphere is super loud and dark-ish but with good music and fun! I can imagine this being a great late night spot too for drinks after dinner. We started with one of the flavored soju they make in house - it's definitely not like the ones in the bottle because it's way less sweet! The flavor was also very light, so I'd probably just go with the regular one next time. It was crunchy which is always good for tots The Cho-Lee-zo pizza was delicious. It was thin NY crust and all the ingredients worked well together. The chicken sandwich was well done. Chicken was well fried and the cabbage brought nice acidity to each bite. The legendary burger, basically a double smash with hints of kimchi, was not as flavorful as I expected from the flagship dish. The kimchi sauce could've been stronger and I wanted more heat personally. Overall, nice place and a good spot for a crowd of friends I'm sure the food mixed with bar drinks would be awesome. read more
