Everyone's been polite and chill even when we're asking for new plates after like every other dish so flavors don't mix. Don't do one entrée per person. Get a mix of small and large plates and share. Way better experience. Food is solid across the board, but the Fly's Head didn't hit for me. It was mostly chives and not much pork. The Lobster Rice Noodles though...so good. Thought this place was good and fit the neighborhood well. All i tried was the bacon egg and cheese scallion pancake sandwich. I'd rate it about 4/5. Also had a mango jasmine milk tea which i enjoyed thoroughly. Think of this place more as a Taiwanese fusion restaurant, and you'll enjoy it a lot more. It's definitely not authentic, but they do a nice job with creative twists. I really liked the wu yu zi mian--the cured mullet roe (aka Taiwanese caviar) noodles--which reminded me of the Asian-influenced Italian spots I love in Taiwan. Their o-a jian isn't authentic at all, but if you think of it more like a jian bing, it works. The pea shoots were delicious and probably the most authentic dish of the night. And I also liked their fried eggplants a lot but I'm just simply a huge eggplant fan in general. This place has been on my list for a while and we were in the area on a Saturday night so we thought, why not try our luck?! I think I came here with high expectations. Win Son has been all over my feed as one of the best Taiwanese restaurants, and I brought a group of coworkers with hopes to share some Taiwanese cuisine with them. While most dishes tasted good, it's like I got something different from what I ordered. Service was also very slow, and required reminders for our drink orders. We started with marinated cucumbers and fried eggplant. We had ordered the fried cured mullet roe topping for the cucumbers, but I definitely didn't see or taste any of that flavor. Nonetheless, these appetizers were tasty! Eggplant was crispy, and the cucumber was garlicky. Next, the oyster omelette with shrimp. Aside from the main ingredients, this barely has any notes of the original Taiwanese flavor. No iconic bouncy (QQ) texture from starch. The sauce, while also inaccurate, was decent. Zhajiangmian had lamb in it. Why? This tasted nothing like the Chinese, Taiwanese, or Korean variations, and was more like a Szechuan lamb noodle. Still, it tasted pretty good? Big chicken bun had a good night market fried chicken cutlet inside. This tasted good and was fried well! Flies head was also pretty authentic, and was a big hit with everyone. Could be spicier, but thats fine. Mullet roe pasta was really tasty. Probably my favorite dish that night. It was creamy and had great bite to the noodles. The Lu rou fan was also pretty good. Very fatty and coats the rice well. Flavor is also a little different, but not as far off as others. Overall, the best I can give win son is a 4/5, leaning towards a 3.5. While the food was mostly tasty, the lack of relation to the name of the original dish they're profiting off of does not sit right with me. Maybe the bakery is better. read more

Holy cow did this place blow me away!! I've been to the bakery and it's excellent so I never had the need for dinner but found myself here and I couldn't believe how excellent it is! We tried so many dishes and each one was a hit and I would order again - the portions were also huge and well worth the price! My personal favorite was the fried chicken sandwich which was a bit sweet but still savory and soo good! The space is also really nice and a cool chill vibe with nice music that wasn't too loud. The service was...indifferent? They seemed not happy but not unhappy we were there, the server poured me more water and I said thanks and they said "yeah." However after trying it several times I can't say I will be returning unless someone is paying for me because they want to come. Food is delicious and service is good. Clam stew was a bit salty but flavors are on point as well. And the scallion pancakes are delish. However I think the pairing is a bit weird. The pancakes didn't soak up the sauce and flavors were exact well together. I think maybe it was going for a mussels and bread thing but I would have preferred rice on the side or something. Lu ro fan has perfect taste of what the original dish should be and of course comes with a delicious marinated egg. They don't have an option of hard boiled if you don't like runny eggs. I dock on star from this place mainly because it's over priced. Everything feels 5-8 dollars over priced. At least maybe for me since I'm not the target audience. 30 dollars for lu ro fan feels a bit much. It's the cheapest type of meat and easiest thing to make at home. I would happily pay 15-16z. As a Taiwanese American who has had a lot of Taiwanese food before, I think this isn't very traditional and is much more American-inspired. I'd honestly give this place probably a 3.5/5, but I'll round up because it was a nice spot overall. We got the tian dou jiang, the o a jian (it's correctly romanized but it took me a second to process what this was), the pan griddled pork buns, and the sesame noodles. Tian dou jiang - I liked this + the you tiao was nice, but $7? I guess that's the price of NYC O a jian - this didn't really taste like the actual dish from Taiwan, but I guess that's their way of Americanizing it. When it came out we were a bit confused and thought we were given the wrong dish but it's definitely more Western omlette than the traditional. Pan griddled pork buns - I really don't know what this was, but we were expecting 生煎包 and they were much smaller and soggier than expected. Still decent, but a bit confusing... Sesame noodles - I think these were pretty good, but nothing really to write home about. Overall the food was decent but nothing really special. It kinda bothered me how expensive some of the other items were (like $31 for a lou rou fan? maybe it's large but this would run you like $2 in Taiwan like bruh). Overall I think my mistake was trying to think this would actually be like food from Taiwan but it's just much more Westernized and honestly not like in a way that improves the dish in my opinion.
