Wenwen is a modern Taiwanese restaurant that blends traditional comfort food with creative, contemporary dishes in a lively setting. We walked into a space with an energetic atmosphere, an open kitchen, bar seating, and a menu designed for sharing, the kind of place that feels best experienced with a group. The room had a vibrant, social energy with a steady buzz of conversation and the clatter of plates, and the layout encouraged ordering multiple dishes to pass around the table. While the space could get loud and busy during peak dinner hours, the lively environment fit the restaurant's casual and social style. The menu highlights a mix of Taiwanese classics alongside more playful creations. We ordered a few dishes and found the beef noodle soup standing out with a rich, flavorful broth, tender beef, and chewy noodles that made it one of the most satisfying items on the menu. The popcorn chicken was another signature dish, served hot and crispy with plenty of seasoning, making it an easy choice to share at the table. Cold sesame noodles, braised pork rice, and the shrimp floss lettuce cups were also worth considering if we were looking to try a variety of flavors, each arriving well composed and thoughtfully seasoned. Dessert was one of the more memorable parts of the meal. The fried tang yuan served with ice cream offered a creative twist on the traditional Taiwanese rice dumpling, combining a crispy exterior with a chewy center and cold, creamy ice cream. It was one of the more unique desserts on the menu and made a great way to end the meal. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, and the staff were happy to make recommendations if we were unfamiliar with Taiwanese cuisine. Because Wenwen has become a popular destination, reservations are highly recommended, and walk-in waits can easily reach 30 to 60 minutes during busy evenings. The team moved through the room with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the flow steady without feeling rushed. Overall, Wenwen offers a fresh take on Taiwanese cuisine while staying rooted in many classic flavors. The combination of well-executed comfort food, creative desserts, and an energetic atmosphere makes it a great choice whether we were already familiar with Taiwanese food or trying it for the first time.

Wenwen is a Taiwanese fusion place known for their BDSM chicken, where they only serve a very limited amounts of the dish each day. They open at 5 pm for dinner and I came to wait at 4:50 pm. I was able to walk-in right away and get seated. SM in the chicken dish stands for soy milk and it was definitely something I was able to taste. The portion size was pretty decent but I did had two issues with the dish. The dish was more of a Sichuan/Mala type of seasoning rather than something you expect to see from Taiwanese fried chicken. I did wish they use that kind of seasoning instead. With such a big portion of chicken, I also wish they had more of a variety of dark and white meat, as I had mostly white. I also ordered their minced pork over rice and their beef noodle soups - two classic Taiwanese dishes. I actually ended up enjoying Wenwen's take on the two dishes more than the chicken! They were also known for their fried Tangyuan desserts and that was something I enjoyed as well!

Sister restaurant to the lively 886 in Saint Marks, Wenwen in Greenpoint offers up comfort Taiwanese food with a variety of small bites, rice and noodle dishes, and specialty dishes. Service was good, and pretty quick. One of their specialty dishes that I've heard so much about is their BDSM chicken: their Brinded, De-boned, and Soy-Milk battered yellow fat chicken. As they only have limited quantity each day, I was surprised that they had it when I came in at 6:30p on a Monday. I paired it with their cucumber salad and some rice, and it was great! The chicken was crispy yet still juicy and the seasoning was delicious. Loved the sauteed greens and beansprouts that they added to the dish, and I thought that it was very well-rounded. Would love to come back to try some of their other popular dishes, such as their popcorn chicken, beef noodle soup, or tangyuan.

Walked on a Wednesday night at 8pm and was seated about 10 mins later. Service was good and the ambience was nice. The bathroom had a disco ball and some very hip Asian music. The food: Sacha Hot Honey Popcorn chicken - great appetizer and was fried well and very juicy chicken. Beef noodle soup - the beef was super tender and delicious and the noodles were good. The soup was very savory. Cold sesame noodles - yummy dish as well. Very refreshing and it pair well with the popcorn chicken Fried Tangyuan w/ Ice cream - delicious and packed with flavor. I laughed a bit because it tasted like a drumstick ice cream cone . The peanuts and sesame really gave me that feel but the tangyuan was a great dessert. Pretty pricey tho Would come back for their chicken sandwich!

Beef noodle soup is delicious! I was surprised that it was brought out very quickly after I ordered. The broth is hot and flavorful, and after devouring the beef and noodles, I drank it all up! The beef was very tender and fell apart. The noodles were delicious and made me think of ramen. I sat at the bar, and the gal who was bartending was also my waitress, and she took my order and was awesome! Not the best beef noodle soup I've ever had (I'm Taiwanese, my standards are high), but it hit the spot on a cold drizzly December night.

Came here on a sunday night at 6:30 PM and didn't have to wait to get seated. I liked the lighting and asian decorations inside. Favorite dish was the peashoots and tofu skin! It just had such a unique flavor. The beef and chicken were both cooked super tender, and the msg and black pepper flavors were very strong. It seemed a little pricey for the portion sizes at first, but the dishes were very filling!

Came here during a snowstorm because I was so confident in loving it! However, the BDSM Chicken Sandwich + Tater Tots was unfortunately overpriced and underwhelming. To be fair, the food isn't bad at all. The chicken is fried well, crispy on the outside while tender inside. The tater tots are also crunchy like a tater tot should be. But for $24 price tag, there's nothing special here at all. The chicken sandwich itself is very small (literally about the size of my palm). It has a savory popcorn-chicken style seasoning, but it's not bold enough at all. It also has "spicy sauce" on it but it pretty much tastes like Kewpie and is not spicy in the slightest. Worst part is that the rest of the plate (about 2/3 of it!) is just plain tater tots with regular ketchup. There was no seasoning, no special sauce, no twist; just standard tots. Overall, it's fine food, it's just not worth the price nor trekking out during a snowstorm for (though the latter point may just be me). At that price point, I expected something more filling, flavorful, or memorable. Service was knowledgeable and friendly and they played nice old school Chinese songs. It was also nice and homey inside, though the tables were packed closely together so you can eavesdrop on your neighbors if you're bored.

Very chill and casual spot. food was solid and had a good time chatting and sharing everything with friends. would def recommend with a group of at least 3-4 so you can do family style. decor was nice and subtle and they have taiwnese beer. good flavors and good vibes.

This place has been on my to-go list 5ever and im happy to have come on a friday night with a friend. We sat by the bar and it was chill. Love the vibe in there. Very cozy for a cold night. Friendly service as well. We ordered hot sesame noodles and it was good! Very light hint of pb. The popcorn chicken were huge! Not no tiny pieces. The mocktails we got were also tasty! As for the tongyuan omg it was my fave! The were pan fried maybe? But the crisp on it then with ice cream was delicious! Just be sure to eat it in one bite or itll get all over you. Don't make my mistake! Overall id come back even though it is a bit pricy but i get it. Its ny. Lol

Was very excited for this place and didn't expect the portions to be this huge, definitely better to come with a bigger group. Overall food was pretty good and would recommend everything I ordered. I would come back to get the BDSM chicken sandwich for brunch.

I was so excited to finally taste Wen Wen's beef noodle soup. Despite the day being relatively warm and walking 30,000 steps, the soup hit the perfect spot. The broth was rich, the beef was tenderrrr, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. Their fried tofu dish had this sour, somewhat off putting but at the same time appealing taste. Every bite had me addicted and confused at what I was eating, but I had no issues finishing the dish. The last thing I ordered was one of their cold salads with pickled cucumbers, carrots, and more. I could pass on this, but I think my friends appreciated it for what it was. Next stop: their chicken dish

Visited for a dinner date on Sunday night. We made a reservation for a table but chose to sit at the bar because we enjoy having more table space. Everything is reasonably priced and tasty overall. We got the popcorn chicken, fried tofu, beef soup noodle and a Taiwan beer to share. Plus dessert. The popcorn chicken felt a bit overcooked but besides that the flavor was good. It was little sweet for my liking. I prefer tiny pieces that I eat with skewers, but still good! The tofu for me was delicious but if you're not a fan of fermented veggies it might not be for you. The hot sauce with it is numbing but I really enjoyed it. The texture was perfect and stuffing the veggies it it with sauce is yummy. The beef soup noodles is a 10/10! Generous portions of beef and delicious broth. Would come back again for this! Tasted just like how my mom makes it and the meat is just braised perfectly. Light yet savory and flavorful. We also really enjoyed the dessert! We had a funny disagreement where my bf was determined the leaves on the dessert was shiso. I told him no, the only thing I can be is cilantro since in Taiwan we eat cilantro with ice cream and peanuts. lol he obviously was wrong. But we both really enjoyed this dessert, and you will too if you like sesame or peanuts. Definitely coming back to get the beef noodle and trying more side dishes plus cocktails!

Great spot for a casual lunch with yummy Taiwanese food. We started with the spicy celtuce as a cold app and shared the beef noodle soup and lou rou rice. The celtuce was a great way to start the meal with a nice amount of spice and vinegar to eat alongside the main dishes. The beef noodle soup was nice and rich. The beef was so so tender and the best part of the dish. I really enjoyed the lou rou rice as well, it's perfect mixed all together and a nice dish to share.

When it's a hot day, the restaurant could get very hot even if they turn on both ACs. With just 2 ACs insides, and eating a hot bowl of spicy soup noodle, we were all sweating inside. I also ordered their new dish with has abalone and sea cucumber; this is not part of a set meal. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has that umami sweetness that comes from a great soup base and the noodles are delicious as usual. The abalone was tender, the sea cucumber had a bite to it. There was fish maw and wood ear in there as well.

After my first few bites of their Tora Don and Chirashi Don, it was clear that this restaurant has the better quality seafood. Each slice of sashimi had vibrant colors, clean taste, and the proper texture. Tomoni is not bad, but fall slightly short of this caliber. With that said, there is an even farther gap between their rice quality. Though Tora is very good, Tomoni produces nearly perfect texture and acidity for my taste buds. Other than the best omakase restaurants in NYC, Tomoni shines as one of the best versions of sushi rice in the five boroughs. Service is good and space is cute.
