My rule of thumb is that restaurants that only serve a few things on the menu must be amazing - Chiko lived up to that bill! I got both the mapo tofu and the eggplant dishes with beef to go - they were deliciously spicy, warm, and just felt like a comforting home cooked meal. I was thinking they might be the same sauce, but the eggplant sauce was actually a bit tangier / sour (not in a bad way!) than the mapo sauce. The portion size is great as well, which honestly makes this place a pretty good deal as well. I will definitely be coming back to Chiko! A wonderful casual option.

Fried chicken! - The image shows a small white bowl filled with fried chicken pieces that have a crispy, breaded coating. The chicken is topped with a dark, glossy sauce. In the background, there is a lime wedge and some green vegetables, possibly herbs or salad. The setting appears to be a restaurant table with a wooden surface, and a person wearing a black shirt is partially visible behind the food.

GREAT PLACE def I'll come back!! modern feeling dining area and chic bar counter. It was Sunday they open at 2pm. It was not so packed we enjoyed our conversation. All dishes come with full of surprises. I think I got the best garlic bean strings ever in NYC. Fried chicken was juicy and so moistened. Lime got kicked in with sweet chili sauce. Can't forget the taste! Of course MUST order the Mapo Tofu! Everything was delicious but moreover, they all are affordable prices but great portions! I shut out the business and you'll definitely get enough of them!!

Honey Spicy Chicken - A bowl of honey spicy chicken, featuring fried chicken pieces topped with a dark sauce, is placed on a wooden table. In the background, there is a glass of beer, a glass of water, and some decorative elements in a restaurant setting. The image captures a casual dining scene with focus on the food.

Chiko is a gem on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint. Although we only stopped in for a little taster, the dishes we ordered were showstoppers. The honey spicy chicken, Dan Dan Noodles and Marinated Cucumbers were all so delicious and wonderfully prepared. The room's aesthetic is very cool and relaxing. And our server was gracious and passionate about the restaurant and the food he was bringing out to us. I can't wait to go back for a substantial meal, and to explore their menu.

Bar view - The photo depicts a section of a restaurant interior with a beige curtain hanging on the wall, featuring the Chiko logo. To the left and right of the curtain are framed pictures with minimalistic art. A wooden counter runs along the bottom of the image, with two glasses, a napkin, and a small candle placed on it. The lighting is soft, and the overall decor is modern and simple.

Chiko is my FAVORITE restaurant in Greenpoint!!!!!!!! The Mapo Tofu over rice is my go to order and anytime someone ask for a recommendation, I send them here!! Having experience both take out and dining in the service is always great. I LOVE THIS PLACE & YOU SHOULD TOO!

Cozy sichuan spot with snug seating and a warm vibe. Perfect for rainy days or intimate dates. Enjoyed the mapo tofu and cucumbers the most!

Specialty: String Bean Salad paired with White Rice. Topped with garlic, red chili vinaigrette.. Vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free!

The food was amazing. Definitely a light mid-day meal. Able to work productively and enjoy the atmosphere. Service had been exceptional & they are hiring!

Excellent takeout joint in Greenpoint. They have a small menu which I'm guessing they experiment with from time to time. Their current menu has a wicked mapo tofu, might just be the best I have ever had. A tofu noodle( they have a chicken version too) which is heavy on the Szechuan peppercorn but also has a significant sour umaminess to it with the very familiar numbing feel which may or may not appeal to everyone. The tofu is large, soft and pillowy and soaks up the broth beautifully. I noticed the flavor actually getting better and better with every bite. The noodles have a good bite to them and stay consistently firm throughout the meal. The garlic green beans side was simple and also very delicious. Will most definitely order again!

Szechuan noodle soup - A black plastic bowl contains Sichuan noodle soup with fried tofu cubes, chili oil, green herbs, and vegetables, with a clear plastic spoon inside. Next to it, there is an orange-lidded container of soup with a handwritten label. The items are placed on a blue table with some office supplies and wires in the background.

What a gem of a sichan place! Constant rotating menu with their maple tofu being the only seemingly permanent staple so far. Everything I've had there is delicious. So far it's only been take out only and there's one table outside but i heard recently they started having indoor dining again. I don't know if they will ever convert the restaurant back to an omakase concept, I kind of hope not because this really is an outstanding sichuan place, it's what mission Chinese hoped to be. Small focused menu, always a plus for me.

The restaurant is currently operating with a limited menu, and with take out only. Food is conveniently packaged for take out. The dumplings were really good, and the noodles were mostly tasty but the broth was a bit too sour for my tastes.

Staple in my food

Loved this place till today when I pulled a staple out of my mouth. a trip to the ER is not my idea of a chill night in. Maybe work on your food safety because this is not cool.

a bowl of rice and a bottle of wine - The image shows a takeout meal served in a black bowl containing white rice, tofu in sauce, and chopped green onions. Surrounding the bowl are a bottle of red wine labeled 'Poggio Basso Chianti,' an empty glass, and several plastic containers with food remnants. The setting appears to be a casual dining or takeout environment with a wooden table and various items in the background.

Great Greenpoint spot to grab a quick meal. Everything is packed with flavor, and they accommodate asking for mild spice levels which I appreciate! Menu is small, highly recommend the mapo tofu and the spicy wontons. Great price for NYC food in general and esp for the portion size and how good this is.

The pork with garlic sauce was absolutely delicious. This one isn't spicy so it didn't numb the mouth. The mapo tofu was also delicious and a little spicier but still not numbing the mouth. Def better to have it with rice though. The green pepper fish was mouth numbing and honestly I couldn't taste much of the flavor because the combination of spice and the hot temperature of the food was overbearing for me. So if you're like me and can tolerate some spicy but not numbing spicy then I would recommend telling them less spicy. Portions were perfect for 5 people (3 males and 2 females) as we ordered 2 of the pork with garlic sauce, 2 mapo tofus, and 1 big green pepper fish dish. We went on a Saturday at 5:30pm so it wasn't too crowded. Overall delicious and the staff were all friendly and very attentive in filling up our water for our spicy meal. (mapo tofu not shown as we were too hungry)

I wish the sauce was sweeter though since the flavor was more j spicy/ salty. I think a different sauce like a hoisin chili combo would make the dish a lot tastier. The sour cabbage beef soup was interesting! It tasted nice and beefy, but was a bit too sour for me. The lemon dessert was my favorite! The food is why we are all here and this place did not miss! We sat at the bar because we didn't have a reservation and it was a Sunday night. We were told the specials for the night with great detail, we snagged one of the last soup dumplings and they are incredible. The only other place I've had soup dumplings as good is in flushing - that's high praise from this queens girl. Next up we ordered the scallion pancakes - which ruined all other scallion pancakes for me. They were ultra crispy and flaky. The dipping sauce was deeply flavorful and the portion was perfect. We also ordered the chicken wantons that came in a chili crisp oil and peanut sauce, delicious. The pork noodles were the secret star because the description was pretty straight forward. But my partner is a chef and insisted we get them. They were some of the best noodles I've ever had. Definitely made in house and they were coated in a flavorful sauce. The crispy garlic chicken was so good that I had to take it to go because we were stuffed, still amazing the next day. Food was decent and there are a lot of options on the menu. Would I come here again? Maybe to try their rice dishes after reading other reviews, but I wouldn't come back for the tomato based hot pot. Ambiance 3/5: A little chaotic. A lot of kids (middle or high schoolers) probably because of the cheaper prices and according to other reviews a discount with student ID. Another large party came in and started moving tables around and people that appeared to be regulars seated themselves. Service 4/5: We were seated immediately at a table for 2 on a Saturday afternoon. Food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. It became busier towards the end of our lunch and it was hard flagging someone to bring us a check. Food 4/5: Decent. Main selling point is its affordability. I regret not looking at other reviews before coming here as people say their rice dishes are pretty good. We got their pre-made tomato hot pot soup base, GF got the original soup base, and some stir fried potatoes. - Tomato hot pot 3/5: I did like this at first. Not sure if the saltiness of our appetizer overpowered the flavors of the soup but it started to taste too sweet (kind of like ketchup?). Slightly disappointed at that. I tried the original soup base and like it more so probably pick another base if you come here. No complaints about the ingredients you get to add though, those were delicious. I chose Udon, fatty beef, fish filet, honeycomb tripe, and enoki mushrooms. - Stir fried potatoes 4/5: They look like fries but they're not crispy. Very flavorful though; salty and spicy. I can see the appeal and would be great as a separate snack but it made my noodle soup taste bland in comparison...
