This was a perfect indulgence on a rainy evening. Three of of feasted on delicious elevated Chinese. We ordered way too much for 3 of us and brought home lots of leftovers. Menus are illustrated and the vibe is loungey and upscale feeling, dimly lit with little table lights. Service was excellent.

I loved my mocktail. The food was delicious and the portions were pretty good. I felt that the price was also very fair given the portion size. My favorite items were probably the soup dumplings and the dry pot. The ambiance is cute, pretty small building but the bar is beautifully decorated. Service was nice enough, could tell they were a bit overwhelmed by our party size but they did well.

Came for an early dinner and it was still happy hour. Wait staff was very nice. The food I ordered was bit disappointing tbh. Got the pork belly with garlic sauce. Pork was sliced very thing but almost too much fat and very little meat. Sauce was pretty good. Spicy cumin lamb wasn't seasoned with any salt. Was definitely spicy though. Got the green beans which were great though. All in all, maybe I ordered the wrong things? Vibes were nice. Lychee jasmine cocktail was great!

Shan is my absolute favorite when I'm craving something spicy. This spot has some of the most legit Sichuan food I've come across in Brooklyn. My favorites are the soup dumplings, cumin lamb, and the dry pot. I'm always impressed how many DoorDash delivery folks are waiting by the entrance, but yet it's always easy to get seated without a reservation. The team that works here is incredibly friendly and always has great recommendations. They food is consistently delicious and actually spicy if your order it that way.

This is a Sichuan cuisine. Staffs were friendly. We came on a Sunday night, no reservations needed. We ordered sweet and sour pork ribs, duck fried rice and pork belly entree. All were delicious. The entree was a little spicy. Overall, would recommend eating here. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5

Shan appears to be deceivingly small as it extends to a back room and uses its narrow hallway for additional seating. My boyfriend and I joked that it'll be the perfect place for a mistress as they had small dividers for privacy. Besides that, space was clean, large leather booth style seating, huge mountain mural behind bar covered with flowers and bookshelf. It feels comfortable & casual, but had beauty in the details and a calming blue color. Now, the food. I ordered the Squid tentacles dry pot & the bf had the Stir fried chicken. Note- all dishes come ad-hoc so we had to order a rice side. The flavor of the chicken was perfect. Generally it's too salty, but this was delicious. They overdid it on the green peppers and honestly they didn't taste seasoned, The dry pot on the other hand was perfect-no notes. I asked for mild & it still had a kick so I'd recommend you request less than you think you can handle. Rice isn't needed because it's large & has potatoes & veggies in it. Similarly, the drinks were delicious. They all had herbal qualities (jasmine tea, ginger root, etc) which made them unique. $9 on happy hour, felt balanced, but everything was put in tiny glasses. Served timely, but not rushed.

In Brooklyn visiting the kids. My daughter was bugging me to try this place. Glad we did. Seems like a small place until you walk in. It's actually quite large. Service was prompt and friendly. We ordered dumplings in hot oil. And soup dumplings. Very good. Shared kung pao chicken fish dry pot. And eggplant in garlic sauce. Everything was delicious and quite spicy. So be ready for that. Overall a very good experience

One of the few asian restaurants located in Dumbo, this one featuring Sichuan cuisine. The service here was fast with help tries their best to make you enjoy your experience. The food was quite good, one of best Chinese restaurants I've tasted in NYC. Given the location, the place felt just a little bit fancy, but not too much.

I was in Brooklyn for work, and had a hankering for Chinese food. It was a Friday night, so my husband and I definitely wanted a vibe that was nice (not take out), without compromising the flavor. After some lengthy research, we landed on Shan as an option. The restaurant was super cute, perfect for date nights or group dinners. We ordered soup dumplings, dan dan noodles, hot and sour soup, beef dry pot, and kung pao chicken. The soup dumplings had a delicious broth and the ground pork was extremely flavorful. The hot and sour soup invoked nostalgic memories for me, as it reminded me of the best one I had growing up in California. The dan dan noodles had a delicious spice that was complimented with the schezuan peppercorn for a little bit of numbness. The beef dry pot was AMAZING. Make sure to specify the spice level. It was definitely hot, but still delicious. The beef was so tender and not dried out or chewy. The vegetables made a hearty companion to the meat. I often use Kung pao as my litmus test for Chinese food, and this was definitely some awesome (and spicy) Kung pao! If ever in Brooklyn, I highly recommend!

In a neighborhood where Chinese options are largely limited to fast casual and ancient takeout spots, this solidly classy sit-down Szechuan space has been a welcome addition for the past few years. The food is mostly of excellent quality, and the service is better than the Chinatown spots of my youth would have me expect. This is not the place for General Tso's chicken. They specialize in proper Szechuan cuisine. Accordingly, the mapo tofu is the real deal, spicy and excellent. I'm always happy to get it, and my shirt never is. The Chungking Chicken is a winner, and I'm always happy to eat the dan dan noodles. I have yet to try the Kung Pao, but I've heard good things. The starters are also of good quality. Scallion pancakes are awesome, soup dumplings, although Shanghaiese, are still quite good (although better ones can be had for cheaper a few blocks north at Nan Xiang), and the wontons in chili oil are great. Speaking of which, ask for some chili oil and use it liberally to punch anything up, especially the Stewed Fish with Vegetables, which is an excellent choice if your mom also can't handle the heat. I like how the lunch specials come with some pickled veggies. I like pickled things. There's a full bar, and even a negroni on the happy hour menu that I haven't been brave enough to try it yet. However, the wine and sake are both quite affordable if you come in early. Give it a go.

I really wanted to like this place more than I did. The wontons were good, but the overall flavor of the spice wasn't great. They were very spicy but just not my favorite. The soup dumplings were good not great. Kind of thick skinned. The best part of the meal was the hot and sour soup which I will definitely be back for! Service was awesome and the restaurant is beautiful, they even have a back patio. The table next to me got the Mapo Tofu and it looked phenomenal, maybe I just ordered wrong.

When you walk in, you notice the nicely decorated restaurant and friendly staff. There's a bar with solid cocktails, though you can order at your table too. Everything was delicious including the Dan Dan noodles, beef dry pot, and my favorite - the spicy mayo tofu. Would recommend!

Came here on late Saturday afternoon and was seated quickly. It wasn't busy and it had a nice, dark ambiance with no blasting music - perfect for girl's night therapy talks and probably good for dates. We had the crab roe soup dumplings, duck fried rice, dry pot cauliflower, and scallion pancakes. The crab roe soup dumplings were savory and warm - perfect for colder weather. The duck fried rice was a bit bland but was saved by the soy sauce from the other dishes. The dry pot cauliflower was highly complimented by my friend - it was really tasty but also had a spicy kick. The scallion pancakes were thin, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, oily but meshed well with sweet soy sauce. They had a great drink selection too. We opted for the coffee milk tea and the jasmine lychee. Both were sweet but not too sweet. Overall, we had a good time here. Would come back for their crab roe soup dumplings.

I also had multiple chums from Brooklyn endorsing this spot, so everything seemed to be lining up for an excellent night. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think you just can't go to places like this on a Tuesday, but maybe it was just a bad night. I got here way before my chum due to our work schedules, literally 45 minutes or so. It wasn't 6pm yet and while there were definitely customers in both the bar area and the backyard outdoor section, it was pretty chill. I was able to secure a small table next to the bar right by the open window in the front (probably because the sun was glaring down on it, which wasn't an issue 10 minutes later) and just chilled out for a while, enjoying the excellent warm weather. This was the highlight of the experience, which unfortunately my chum did not get to enjoy. A lot of this was just unfortunate timing, I think. As I was waiting for my chum, people were practically streaming into the bar, probably about 25 or so, which I watched with increasing trepidation. Pretty much all of them wanted a drink, and there was only one bartender. They did not fix that problem until well into my chum's visit, so there was literally just the one guy making a gazillion drinks for about 45 minutes. Just no reason for that at all, especially given that they DID have the resources to divert and had a young woman back there at a certain point. But once I saw how crazy it was getting, I tried to pre-emptively order a second round, which he forgot about and had to ultimately be reminded of. It took literally half an hour to get the second drink. When my chum arrived, she went up to the bar to order her own drink and some of the arancini. She came back 10 minutes later and said she wasn't given the opportunity - THAT is completely insane. If you're so swamped that customers have to wait that long to even order much less get their drinks, you need help. Not clear where the disconnect was, but what started out as a great experience pretty much crash landed. Really disappointing. The crowd did thin out ultimately but the damage had been done. We were able to get the drinks but didn't bother with the additional app because we didn't want to risk missing a big chunk of the Nets game. So by not being even remotely attentive for a significant period of time, they left money on the table. I will say that the bartender himself maintained his professionalism throughout, and just kept making the drinks. Pretty much the opposite of what would have happened on Bar Rescue. This was on management, not the bartender. The drinks WERE good, which also made the service problems a shame. I got the Witch Doctor, which featured bourbon, rosemary, maple and lemon. Really well made, and appropriate for the unseasonably warm evening - it's the kind of bourbon cocktail made for summer. Would absolutely get that again. And the food was very solid. The star of the night was the arancini, which were featured prominently on the apps menu right at the time and promoted as one of their big selling points - deservedly so. These were honestly some of the best rice balls I've had. The cheese in the middle emphasized the flavors and wasn't too dense or overwhelming, the balls were cooked perfectly, and the sauce (the underrated part of rice balls for me) was delicious. Huge recommend. I also got a margarita flatbread to share with my chum, and that was good as well. Everything was going to come up short to the arancini, but it hit the spot. As mentioned, this was a random Tuesday night when maybe they don't have their full crew ready to rock. Maybe it was a fluke crowd surge? I just don't know, but the bottom line was that they weren't prepared for the customers who came in and were already there, and that's a big problem. If you can't deliver the same quality that you do on the weekends and predictably busier times, then you shouldn't be open that early in the week. Hopefully they figure it out because there's a lot to like here.

I've made it a point to visit every vinyl listening bar that I learn of in town, after enjoying the shared experience of someone curating a select vinyl list in intimate spaces in Tokyo. Few have been able to replicate the experience, but Honeycomb Hi Fi Lounge comes close. That the space is narrow with just a few seats along the bar and a few tables mimics the Japanese experience best, where you can almost have it so the whole room is having one conversation together. The music is the focus. The cocktail menu is rather simple, and my Stormbringer drink, with dark rum and ginger beer was not anything to write home about, but $15 is pretty low for cocktails these days so I'll take it. If they introduced new cocktails to the menu with more interesting ingredients I'd be more inclined to return, but the vibes overall are pretty good and the staff really nice.

My friend and I each order a cocktail, and are catching up. I'm from Brooklyn, however I no longer live here, and this was precious catch-up time with my friend. Then I get interrupted mid-sentence by the old-timer DJ from his low seat in a corner behind the bar. I had bumped the bar with my wrist (bumped my wrist watch as well, not deliberately) and then placed my hand down (granted- more than placed but definitely not slammed), and he decided to warn me that I COULD HAVE made his record skip. It was the Eagles or Santana (far from eclectic, but that's just me). I'm also 99% certain he turned the volume up afterwards, making it even harder to enjoy the company. After that interaction, I struggled to pick it back up with my friend, because I found that distraction very effing rude. When this "4th wall" gets broken down with service, it is hard to then enjoy the space in an uninhibited state. I am all for the Tokyo Vinyl Bar vibe, and I'm also for also giving talent an outlet to share their collection, but this interaction colored my experience, and I closed out after one drink and went elsewhere. I mentioned this to the bartender, and he was kind to offer a buy-back of a rare whiskey, which I did accept. 5 stars for the bartender, but 1 for my experience. I don't like to be harsh or unnecessarily cruel, but this is what it is. I have visited in the past and enjoyed myself. Nonetheless, I certainly won't be coming back.

They serve oysters, which adds to that aphrodisiac experience of the oh so 'wow this is a former brothel!'. The bartenders and servers were fast and very sociable with the more sociable customers. The immediate entrance is very tight, and it was uncomfortable navigating the space. We expected there'd be more seating in the back, which there was, but it was limited and not offered to us until we asked for it.
