A very Szechuan forward restaurant! Their indoor was dimly lit with a nice ambience for intimate dining. More of a narrow, long space but big enough to fit an out 10-12 smaller parties. We ordered multiple dishes to share including stir fried eggplant, salted egg mapo tofu, cold cut chicken, Dan Dan noodles, wanzhou grilled fish, and the husband and wife's special with beef flank and tripe. My top dishes would be the egg plant and the salted egg mapo tofu! Egg plant was perfectly cooked and garlicky. It was a nice change from the Szechuan flavors as was the salted egg yolk. Mild salted egg flavors embodied this different mapo tofu dish. It also came with shrimp rather than minced meat. The flavors were savory and light with a thickened sauce. Recommend getting rice! The dan fan noodles were also delicious but felt the portions were small and not very peanut-y. The chicken wasn't anything too special - clean tasting. The wanzhou grilled fish and the husband and wife's special were saturated in Szechuan pepper oil and peppercorns. The beef flank and tripe was good! But I would've preferred my fish not to be drenched. It was delicious and had all the numbing spices but it got a little bit overpowering towards the end. The cocktail menu lists several tea-infused choices but alas, I'll have to come earlier another day to try. Drinks - I ordered the Summer Breeze and my friend got the Fresh Meet Peach. Summer Breeze was light and refreshing, consisting some of my favorite ingredients - St. Germaine and yuzu, mixed with hibiscus-infused gin, and Aperol. We stayed for a second drink and I got the Winter Frost #2 (mocktail version) made with winter melon tea. I had imagined this to be extra sweet but it was well-balanced, and the aftertaste left a fuzzy feeling. Although we didn't sit for a full meal, the two small dishes we ordered were delicious. Thousand-Year Egg and Tofu Rolls - delicate to eat unless you managed to eat it in one bite. The end result was a spicy, savory, pungent taste with the cucumber slice to lighten the combination. We ordered the fish for two, XLB, and the eggplant. It was perfect for us! Modern Sichuan restaurant with a full bar. It has a sleek yet neighborly feel. Lots of tables for two, a few four tops, one large table for eight at back, plus a bar counter with a bunch of seats. We started with the scallion sauce cucumbers, the radishes, and the Dan Dan noodles. Radishes and cucumbers were cold salads that were perfect for a hot summer day. Both were on the sweet side with some spiciness coming through for the radish salad. If it wasn't such a hot day, then we probably only would have opted for one cold vegetable salad. Dan Dan noodles was likely my favorite dish. Slight spicy and very savory with a nutty flair to it. A few bits of perfectly sautéed bok choy - absolutely no bitterness from it. It was an ideal appetizer portion. For drinks, I had one of their signature cocktails: the summer breeze. It was a gin based cocktail with aperol, St Germain, and Yuzu. It was sweet and bubbly. They hand an enticing happy hour special. For the main course, we shared the Tibetan sliced lamb chops. The lamb chops were cooked to well done and aggressively seasoned. They were plated over crinkle fries that were heavily seasoned too. Cumin forward seasoning that was bold. My wife found it very spicy and the waiter said it is one of the spicer items on the menu though it's only listed with one chili pepper on the menu (their spicy scale starts at zero peppers and goes up to a max of three on the menu). They were very kind to bring over some milk for my wife to help with the heat. I'd rate it one and a half napkins on my spicy scale. Service was excellent. Very accommodating and hospitable. Waiter was diligent to check food restrictions. They were attentive and replaced our water carafe even before our was finished. Top notch service especially at this restaurant's price point with meal coming out to just under $100 for two including tax and tip. Such a delicious meal! I grew up eating dim sum, so Breeze's menu felt like a warm hug from home. We got a bunch of dim sum dishes and a few other dishes. Dim sum: xiao long bao, har gow, and shumai. Everything was delicious! My only complaint is that dim sum should not be this expensive, but (1) it's Brooklyn, and (2) the super cozy interior and dining experience is all a part of that price tag. Sides/mains: chili wonton, dan dan noodle, tomato curry. The standouts for me were the dan dan noodles and tomato curry. The noodles had a great texture and were packed with so much savory flavor. The tomato curry was also so flavorful, yet light, and I loved the addition of tofu and enoki mushrooms. Both of those textures went so well with the curry. Drinks: peach tea cocktails. So delicious! What a beautiful spot! It is really quite cozy in here and I was excited by the menu options. My friends and I shared a lot of dishes and our favorites had to be the bok choy and mushroom dish as well as the century egg dish. I thought they did exceptional on their vegetable dishes here. I cannot really comment on the spicy foods as I don't have a high tolerance for spice but from what I heard, it's delicious! I was excited for the crab egg tofu dish but it was lacking a bit of oomph for me. It was also quite salty. Visually it's beautiful but it did not meet my expectations in terms of flavor. It was nearly there I think but that also may just be personal preference perhaps. I do also wish some small bowls could be provided as it's difficult to scoop on a plate. I loved the scallion pancakes here and the Dan Dan noodles. It had a nice kick to it! The staff are also really kind and patient here. I accidentally broke a sake bottle I had with me and the staff immediately cleaned it up and provided me with 2 extra bags to carry my non broken bottle. Shout out to them and apologies again! Breeze is a good, affordable lunch spot when you're craving some Szechuan food. Overall, each lunch meal comes with a cold side (radish, beancurd), main, and white rice for under $20. We got the salted egg yolk tofu, dry baby rib with potato slices, and mapo tofu. The egg yolk tofu was the best of the three dishes and had a nice balance between the crab roe flavor and silky tofu texture. Writing specifically about their Happy Hour as we were just grabbing a quick drink after work, so we took a seat at the bar. Their Happy Hour currently boasts $9.99 for any of the cocktails on their list. We each got the Juno... and it was a good one. Garnished well, in nice glassware - just as a full-priced cocktail would be. Same for the ice cube - they used a large, square ice cube. For $9.99 you guys. For the quality and price, you can't beat it! For the Happy Hour food, we ordered the Sichuan Cold Noodle and Scallion Pancakes. They were also both delicious. For two cocktails and two starters, our bill came to $39.17 before tip. Unheard of these days. The service was good. The cocktails were interesting combinations too. Compared to other Sichuan spots, they have items that are palatable for mala-spice haters (couldn't be me tho!). Breeze is a new Chinese spot in Williamsburg that deserves all the praise that it's getting. First and foremost, this place's interior is super nice. Second, the service ranging from the bartenders to the servers are very nice and accommodating. Third, and most importantly, the food is delicious. My friend and I got the scallion pancakes, shredded beef with green chili, crab tofu, and sake to complement everything we had ordered. The scallion pancakes were an awesome starter and weren't super oily as they typically are in other places. Pro tip- dip the pancakes in the crab tofu/any main dishes' curry/gravy, makes it even tastier. The shredded beef with green chili is great and I love the sauce that it came in. Last but definitely not least, the crab tofu was very tasty and a super generous amount was given as well that we had to pack some to go. The service can be improved a little bit more. They kept forgetting some items that were asked for. They do time the seating to 90 mins. Just keep that in mind. The dish that stands out the most to me is the Crab Tofu - I've never had a dish like it before, tofu isn't usually my go to, but this was so delicious. The type of spice it has is so numbing, but it's worth fighting through! I don't have the best spice tolerance and I was definitely challenged. The space itself is just beautiful. So glad to have tried this spot while they're still new and setting up the location. I took my friends on a food crawl and this was more than a stop in. Totally worth it, but too much food to carry on fully on the food crawl! We were lucky enough to be there during lunch and get lunch specials. Two lunches and one wonton in chili oil was too much food for three and we had lots of leftovers. The wontons in chili oil were some of the better ones I've eaten recently, and I absolutely loved the mapo tofu. I wasn't a huge fan of the kung pao chicken, but I don't think it was Breeze, I just don't think it's a dish I generally like. It's too bad because the food here was good enough that we definitely wanted to order more but we were quite full at the end. The place is currently in their soft opening as I think they've only been open for a month or something similar so that could potentially excuse some woes but there wasn't really any woes anyway outside of them being out of the Tea Smoked Duck. The service was friendly and I liked the atmosphere. They're listed as a cocktail bar in here and while there is a nice selection of alcohol, I wouldn't exactly call them a cocktail bar as they only have the traditional stuff but they appear to be adding more craft cocktails later according to a BK magazine article. Didn't try anything but other people at other tables were enjoying their drinks. As an extra as it sounded delicious, I first started off with the Thousand-Year Egg and Tofu Roll/剁椒皮蛋豆腐 for $10 consisting of preserved egg, roasted chili sauce, tofu, cucumber, and scallion. This was their fun spin on the silken tofu with century egg salad but presented in a dim sum form. Consisting of four separate pieces consisting of a large block of tofu topped with said century egg, and then the chili sauce wrapped in cucumber; this was cumbersome but delicious. It kind of fell apart when being picked up but it was a good mix. The chili oil had a very strong spice hit with plenty of umami and it paired perfectly with the century egg with the cucumber adding crunch. This was delicious and among the favorite things I had and the others enjoyed it as well. I also liked their take on Spicy and Sour Fish Stew/雙椒魚片 for $24 consisting of snake fish fillet, pickled chili, red chili pepper, peppercorn, scallion. This version also had plenty of flavor with the broth being quite spicy. The fish fillet was delicate. I liked the addition of enoki mushrooms for some added crunch in some other spots but I'm not sure if that's traditional. Also excellent were the Dry Pot Baby Rib with Potato Slice/幹鍋排骨土豆片 for $22 with baby pork rib, potato slice, onion, and red bell pepper. The fried pork ribs were super tender in the middle with a light crunchy batter and the potato slices cut into thin pieces had a fun texture as well with a good crispiness. Similarly excellent was their take on Diced Chicken with Chili Pepper/辣子雞丁 for $24 with onion, green chili pepper, and dry chili pepper. Their take on La Zi Ji/Mala Chicken had noticeably tender chicken with not too much batter. It wasn't also entirely dried chili and the onion in there was tender as well. I slightly preferred the dry pot but both were excellent. There was also Crab Tofu/蟹粉豆腐 for $22 with tofu, salted duck egg yolk, and crabmeat. This was essentially a stew with plenty of salted egg yolk and the tofu was soft. There wasn't much crab meat and honestly this could be transformed into a vegetarian dish with just salted egg and tofu and it would be a delicious vegetarian dish (would offer that for a few bucks less or just change it entirely.) Finally in terms of mains, there was the Spicy Cumin Lamb/香辣孜然羊 for $26 with lamb, onion, green chili pepper, dry chili pepper. I'd repeat about the meat being tender but I think I have said that enough already. It was also tasty like everything else but I've had better in terms of smokiness from the lamb from spots such as Hupo. This was probably the weakest dish but it wasn't bad in any way. As the rice costs extra, we decided to go with the Fried Rice with Minced Pork/芽菜臊子炒飯 for $12 with minced pork, mustard green, and egg. They also offer a vegetarian option and this was a wise choice. The pork was tender and there was a bit of sourness from the mustard greens. I'd recommend it also like just about everything else. It's hard for me to find much complaints about this spot. Normally, some newcomers have some woes with either a dish being not prepared right as they are new or some service issues but nothing here. This is an outstanding Szechuan restaurant and I would go back to try more dishes or perhaps just for some dim sum. Mid 4 read more
