Went here on a Thursday night to catch up with some friends. I'm not really a big sushi person, but I've been giving it more of a chance lately. The ambiance is calm and cozy -- definitely a good spot whether you're grabbing a couple drinks, a quick bite, or sitting down for a full dinner. I ordered the Joker roll, and that's where things started to click for me with sushi. The tuna and avocado paired with the spicy red sauce really made it stand out -- honestly tasted great and something I'd get again. Also had the Mongolian steak with rice, which was another highlight. Presentation was fire -- it comes out still heating on a hot platter, which makes the whole experience feel elevated. Flavor matched the presentation too. Service was solid overall, no real issues there. The only downside was with a deal they were advertising ("3 for $33"). It was shown on their website and even posted outside the restaurant, which was actually one of the main reasons we chose the spot. When we tried to use it, we were told they weren't honoring it that night and that the deal had been causing them to lose money. I understand adjusting pricing if something isn't working, but if that's the case, the promotion should be removed or clearly communicated ahead of time. Having it still advertised and then not honoring it was frustrating and took away from the experience. Overall: good food, nice vibe, and a solid option in Brooklyn -- just make sure to double-check any deals before going. read more

So I still haven't gotten over the last Restaurant that was here and so fancy and fabulous and expensive (that's why it's not here anymore ) ok I'm back So it's still beautiful but, there is something off. They promote happy hour and it's good but, I'm going to say it "They SHOW NOTHING BUT, SPORTS Channels" Like it's so annoying. Ok but the food is really good, the fried rice is everything. All of them. And the happy hour menu you CAN NOT TOP prices awesome. Service is amazing as well, I mean they put up with me bitching about the TV all the time. I ordered a virgin mojito and was still charged for the full price of a mojito which I didn't like. The server also seemed pretty annoyed and was rushing us to order, had an attitude when we weren't ready soon enough. He seemed annoyed at any questions we had which is why I gave a 4. This is a really cute find in a bustling part of downtown Brooklyn. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't super crowded on a Friday night and my friends and I were able to get a big corner table without a wait. The menu has a lot of substantial vegetarian options, which is great because you don't see that too much in Japanese/sushi cuisine. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu. read more

Came across Mito on the NYC Restaurant Week list and was intrigued by their $30 3-course offering which comes with a glass of house wine (or a soda). I did, however, realize that they do offer a similar $25 weekday lunch special, with a few differing dishes. I decided to go for those.   1. Yakitori Chicken Skewers - delicious. Chicken is soft and flavorful (I think they used chicken thighs, which is highly appreciated). 2. Crispy Red Snapper - talk about generous portion sizes! I couldn't finish the whole dish. Served with your choice of white, brown or fried rice. The snapper comes filleted, not whole, and the sauce it comes with is amazing. I'm glad I was able to control the amount of sauce on it, cause some places can go overboard. There also is broccoli under the mound of fish! 3. Japanese Crepe Cake - tasty! Not too sweet and the perfect size. I wish it was accompanied by something tart - maybe more raspberries. I think it was a good base, but it needed something more.   I cannot say anything I had was outstanding, but for the value and the taste, this place is a pretty good option. They have amazing lunch and happy hour deals, as well as daily specials that I will be back to take advantage of. The space itself is really nice, and the staff are friendly and attentive.   I do not think it is worth visiting specifically for restaurant week, but on the daily, it might just be the place to be. read more

Mito is a decent please for quality sushi in the Fort Greene area and caters to a wide range of tastes and dietary needs. Besides the more traditional sushi focused menu, they offer some interesting variations such as the fried spicy tuna gyoza, wagyu beef dumplings, or even more Western menu items like wagyu burgers. Another interesting item we enjoyed was the mango cucumber maki roll, though it could even be elevated more by adding some mint or shiso leaves. They have ample if seating as well as the ability to close off the back area for private events. Nonetheless, they didn't seem very busy on a Saturday evening which led to the service to be a bit overbearing. Moving starter plates to the side while the person is still eating from them isn't the best form. Either time the courses better or place the next dish on the side instead. read more

Was looking for a fine dining experience, and while the place looks amazing - the rest of the experience was meh.. opted for the 3 course $33 special. the rock shrimp was good. - the hibachi steak was not good at all. tough pieces of meat when i ordered medium rare. i could have better take out food. the green tea ice cream was good enough. it was plain ice cream bec they didn't have what i had ordered. they put a little cookie crumbs on thr bottom to make it fancy but that tasted like sand. it would have been better without it. but it looked fancy / ill give them that. the manager asked me how the meat was. - i let her know it was overdone. i wasn't going to ask for a discount or refund. but she said she'll take it off the bill. she took off $3. literally insulting. dont offer something and then basically give nothing. waiter dropped a plate in front of my table. it's fine. it happens but since i wasn't that happy - just a little testament to the kinks they need to work out. read more

Met a friend here for an early dinner. They have several seating options - booths, bar, and standard tables. The prices are reasonable, solid menu and great service. They offer a special 3 for $ 33 - appetizer, main, and dessert. The portions for the special are full-size portions. I ordered tuna truffle crispy rice, 3 maki rolls (Spicy Salmon, Spicy Tuna and Yellowtail with Jalapeno) and green tea mochi ice cream. My friend ordered the salmon tacos (this is raw spicy salmon), mongolian chicken, and cheesecake. The presentation for each serving was appealing to the eye. The sushi I had was pretty standard in terms of taste. The mongolian chicken was tender and seasoned to perfection. Our server ensured our beverages and green tea were never empty and that we had all that was needed to enjoy our meal. Overall a good dinner for a great price. read more

I love the ambience here especially the tree in the center. This place gives more Asian fusion than Japanese for me. My wife likes that the cocktails are affordable. It's best to get the appetizers here and skip the sushi. That salmon I ate was the leanest piece of salmon I've ever tasted. The chirashi isn't over rice which makes it at best sashimi with rice. But they had tilapia sashimi. My wife was not pleased. It shouldn't be sashimi. It should have been red snapper. If it was cooked tilapia, she would have cared less. She said as a sushi, it's a cheap thing to do. She said this place has below quality fish and $30 for chirashi for this is a rip off. It's because all the fish are mushy and very very lean except for the hamachi. Also the spicy tuna gyoza was my fav yet it's more of a fried wonton than a gyoza. Other than this, staff didn't seem to know the menu. This is the first restaurant I've seen a spotted lanternfly get in. Thankfully they replaced everything that lanternfly touched. Thus, 0/5 for sushi and 5/5 for appetizers. To balance it out, I'd give it a 3/5. read more

Today we stumbled upon a culinary gem in the heart of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Mito! This gorgeously decorated and swanky Asian fusion restaurant and lounge offers an elegant and elevated dining experience. The beautifully crafted cocktails and inspired menu can only be described as art. We began our meal with two stunning cocktails and the Shrimp Shumai and Crab and Cheese Wonton appetizers. The presentation was outstanding and set the stage for absolutely delicious sips and bites. The Shumai was flavorful and light served with a slightly sweet and tangy sauce. The Crab and Cheese wontons were creamy, rich and indulgent but not too heavy. Next we order the Salmon Teriyaki and Mongolian Beef entrees. When they arrived at the table we were so excited! I believe you eat with your eyes first and both dishes were a feast to behold! The Mongolian Beef was served on a beautiful elevated dish with a heat source below to keep the dish warmed throughout the meal and came with perfectly-cooked fried rice. The meat was tender, flavorful and not overwhelmed by sauce. The Salmon Teriyaki was probably the best I've ever tasted. A generous portion of Salmon grilled to perfection and subtly seasoned alongside a medley of beautifully charred vegetables and white rice. A notable feature for me was the Teriyaki sauce being served in a separate vessel which allowed me to control the amount used and I really appreciated that, as some tend to add too much for my particular taste. Finally we shared the Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream. Another gorgeously presented dish! The Green Tea Ice Cream was delicious, not overly sweet and enveloped in a tempura batter that became very "cake-lile" as it melded with the ice cream...a very unique and satisfying dessert! Overall, Mito is a fabulous find! The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is upscale and the food is perfected. Gives upscale and up-class decor to the point I felt underdressed. That being said there was no dress code since this is a casual spot serving Japanese dishes that are authentic or have a fusion. The menu is expansive and has great options. We got the yakitori chicken as an appetizer and I got the dragon roll, which was pretty good and flavorful. I was excited to order from their cocktail menu but it wasn't actually available so I got a lychee mimosa instead. The mimosa was okay. This restaurant seems fairly new but has alot of potential. Came during their first month of opening. For this first soft opening month, there is an extra 20% off for dine in. Also they have a great happy hour Monday through Saturday 3pm-6pm. Space was big and modern inside. Additionally, service was quick even as it became busier. We ordered 6 food items and 4 drinks off the happy hour menu and ended up super full between the two people in my party. We got the rock shrimp, wagyu beef egg roll, crispy rice sushi, spicy tuna gyoza, spicy salmon pincho, and the volcano roll. I love that they are not stingy on the fish. Food came out with large amounts of fish unexpectedly. Out of the 6 food items my favorite was the volcano roll which had a crisp exterior and the wagyu beef egg roll which was perfectly flavored. For the happy hour cocktails, the yuzu martini and mojitos (including flavored) were included and they were regular sized and tasted good. Highly recommend the pomegranate and passionfruit mojitos. To celebrate the birthday of one of my family members, we tried this new neighborhood spot. Pretty chill Saturday night vibes and delicious food! The staff were nice and tried to be as accommodating as possible. The downside, there was a language barrier which made the service and communication awkward however, every food item we had was on point! The hot sake was nice yet the regular martini didn't give! To eat we had, scallion pancakes, shumai, miso soup and eel sushi for starters. As a main we had a few rolls and hibachi plates. We passed on the desert. My family was celebrating a birthday and wanted sushi. Fort Greene has cycled through a lot of sushi joints pre to post pandemic and I was definitely willing to try the new kid on the block. The decor looks pretty similar to the Italian place that preceded it, with warm wood, gold accents, huge windows, an indoor tree grove, high ceilings, and a gold curtained private dining area. That said, the prices are modestly upscale, not omakase expensive, so it works for a nice meet up with friends as well as a date. We ordered: the spanish octopus (yum) braised galbi beef short rib (very sweet, and small portion) edamame (standard with sea salt) salmon four ways (yum) tuna four ways (yum) a chefs special sushi (yum) an assortment of rolls (yum) ice cream waffles (extra yum) the menu also offers a good number of japanese, chinese, and Thai dishes like fried rice, dim sum dumplings, lo mein/udon, hibachi/teriyaki, scallion pancakes, general tso's, pad thai, etc. There is a wine, beer, sake, and cocktails The service was fast, from ordering to dishes delivered. Many of the staff speak Chinese, talk slowly. Portions felt good, we were satisfied without feeling gross. We definitely spent more than we would have at our more casual sushi spot, but I don't regret it! Prices are pretty similar to what I'd pay in Midtown. read more

This place gets 4 stars for ambiance, it was a rainy Sunday night and every other spot we tried to go to was packed to the gills and way too loud. I'm too old for the loud bar scene so this chill gold accented restaurant was a welcome reprieve. Unfortunately the food and prices is what gets it the 3 stars- I guess I am kind of particular about sushi stuff but it was all very mediocre for very expensive prices. The salmon tacos had what seemed to be some premade shells, not toasted or anything with the tiniest amount of salmon filling, there was so little tacos the large plate really overtook the entire thing. The seared tuna roll wasn't bad but again tiny serving of fish and pricey for essentially a small sliver of seared tuna on top of a California roll. Drinks were strong. The oysters were good although small, and disappointingly they only had 4 left instead of the half dozen we ordered. Not sure how we ended up spending almost $200 between the two of us with two apps, 4 oysters, one roll and 4 drinks. Sadly I probably won't be coming back here. read more

Honestly, I LOVED the sushi - I think it is my favorite sushi in NYC! They give you BIG portions of fish inside the roll, it was the perfect ratio is rice and fish, avocado, etc. Even for basic rolls the flavors were great! They also are SO nice, I would have came back just for the service. One of the staff heard me say happy birthday to my friend, and then a few moments later they bring out dessert with a candle in it, play "happy birthday" over the stereo, and gather around our table to sing to her! We were familiar with the former restaurant in this spot so were eager to try this new one. The food was really good with so many things to try that we will be back for sure- or at least for take away. I started it out with the wonton soup which was the best wonton soup I've ever had. The broth was rich without being fatty and the pork wontons had fennel in them which was beyond delicious. I had a special roll with so much going on in it as well as a yellowtail jalapeño roll. Both were delicious. My husband had a salad and the chef's sushi which he enjoyed. We started with a cocktail- there was a little unfamiliarity around classic cocktails and I did not get what I had ordered; however, it was decent and am sure they'll get more confident with them in the future. They had many other specialty cocktails- but a girl wants what she wants. Service was so sweet. The servers were young ladies who were so lovely, attentive and personable. The only thing that would have made this a 5 star experience is easily fixed. As mentioned, we were regular patrons of the former space. The new owners used the well appointed space and made some modest changes to transform the space including painting the walls a dark color (which is nice) and adding walled velvet curtains in the back: (also nice); that said, a few minor modifications will make this far more elegant spot. 1. turn down the lights: they added LED lights and strips and they were glaringly blue/white bright, especially in and around the open kitchen. They added these corner details with stucco and LED strip lighting that were also not necessary. Turn them down considerably and warm everything up with votive candles placed on each table for more ambient lighting. 2. The open kitchen has a glass shelved enclosure for which they placed arbitrary things in them- boxes of xmas ornaments, random items that completely looked out of place and a bit junky, remove them- no need to put anything there, really, except maybe some more amber votive candles to match the mustard curtains in the back. The previous place did not light the area surrounding the kitchen nor did they add anything to the glass shelves; instead, they allowed the kitchen as the only light source at night while the dining area was lowly lit to a warm effect. 3. They removed the low hanging pendant lights from the previous space and just let a few wrinkled wires dangle- some with bulbs, some just hanging there. They added a few small, plastic shades on a random few. Note the ceilings are extremely high and this just looks sloppy and does not provide any warmth or drama to the space. I would simply get a few dramatic rattan shades like they have in their other locations- and again, turn it all down to a warm glow vs. a harsh, bright glare. They make LED bulbs where you can program the color and the strength of the brightness. 4. get rid of the random dried flower arrangements, vases and the oddly hanging artwork in the back on the curtains. Less is more. Again, the curtains are a beautiful shade of mustard velvet with neat pleats in them- they need nothing else on them. The flatware on the table is gold- and again, just a warm amber glass candle in the middle of each table will give it a cozy glow. Less is more. Everything was reasonable if not a value for the quality of food and drink. Literally, I'll spend a day in here to do this if you supply me with a month's worth of your wonton soup! Called ahead asking if there was crunch in their spicy tuna or salmon rolls, they said no, so I ordered the spicy roll combo (spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail) and once I got home I saw there was crunch in all three. I have a gluten allergy so I could not eat it. When I called back I pointed out they lied about the ingredients when I had called to ask and was told "well you asked about the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail, not the spicy roll combo" ..... ? The spicy roll combo is those three things? They offered to return the food I ordered and they would remake mine - since I live around the corner and was very excited for the sushi, I did. There was 0 apology or any kind words for messing up the order so badly, and I thought it was bizarre they wanted the food back! Once I finally did get to try the sushi, it was not good and the flavor was off. Placed an order through Uber for pickup being that I work in the area. Lady at the front seemed the least concerned and after showing her my order details I can see she assumed I was an Uber delivery person instead of a customer so she asked me to wait. I waited for an additional 15 minutes only to get a notification that my order was canceled from Uber. She along with other workers made no effort to communicate that the order couldn't be fulfilled they just sat there and watched me wait knowing there was no longer an order . No matter how good the food is the service is disgusting and judgemental. I would give it 0 stars if I could read more
