    Braised Pork Dry Noodles

I didn't understand how a place had such good reviews, but after I ate my first bite, I understood. Wow, this really is good. My braised pork noodles was a delicacy and tasted maybe even better than some places in Taiwan, and I'm Taiwanese. The unlimited tea is a nice touch. However, dang, was this place expensive, but I guess that's New York for you. I didn't wait too long on a Saturday lunchtime, maybe around 30 minutes for a small seat. It seemed like takeout was very popular. Dining in is super small. There's only counter space, so I wouldn't bet on it. Probably better to get to-go if you are nearby, or come early so you can get a spot. There is a speakeasy in the back too. That's a different place though

There's only 5 seats inside the restaurant, so this is more of a takeout place. The service was efficient and I got my food in 4 minutes. I ordered the popcorn chicken, cucumber, and pickled cabbage sauce. Popcorn chicken: 2/5 It was soggy and not that flavorful. Cucumber: 5/5 This was delicious and definitely my favorite. The cucumbers came with garlic and bell peppers and were so crisp and savory. Pickled cabbage: 4/5 Flavor-wise this was great. It was slightly sour, I just wish the cabbage was bigger.

Was in LIC visiting friends and stopped by here for lunch with the dine in option. Very hearty meal with the barley like tea to start off and then the classic popcorn chicken, cabbage and vermicelli noodles along with the braised pork over rice. The braised pork was well made and the sauce flavor was mixed in well with the rice to create a savory yet not overbearing taste. The popcorn chicken was perfectly seasoned and the noodles/cabbage dish was also a delight. Would def recommend!

Walked in ~6pm on a Sunday. The bar counter only has 5 seats. Joined the wait line for dining and was seated in ~10min (the two parties ahead did not show). There is a kiosk for takeout. Team is very friendly and answered question about the menu. Got the chicken and lourou fan bento and the dry beef noodle bento. Each bento comes with popcorn chicken, tea egg, and classic side dish (braised nappa cabbage and noodle). There is also unlimited pickled cabbage, chili oil, and sweet cold tea available. Food and drink are delicious and authentic. Not sure whether dining in vs take out is more worth it for the price. For example, the chicken and lourou fan rice bento is ~$25 when dining in, but ~$16 (but no popcorn chicken, tea, etc) when taking out.

Small Authentic Taiwanese eatery in the hustle and bustle of Long Island City. Took me a while to get here since parking is an absolute nightmare however I had Jury Duty today so why not two birds with one stone. This is a no brainer if you're in the area. Fantastic lineup of all the typical Taiwanese eats and everything is made fresh. I dined in but the endless pickups simply told me everyone is onto this. Their playlist is even Taiwanese. Staff is very energetic and very friendly. I only wish the prices were like Taiwan lol but reality of NY prices is a bit intimidating. No matter, this is a great spot.

My Taiwanese friend said this is one of the few restaurants in NYC that actually serve authentic Taiwanese food so I had to give it a try since I was in the area. We arrived around ~1pm on a weekday and there were seats available for dine-in but we opted for takeout because we weren't that hungry and their dine-in menu only consists of $20+ combos that include a main, popcorn chicken, a few sides and a drink. Don't worry about finding somewhere to sit down and eat at if you opt for take-out! There's a food hall conveniently located a few blocks away with tables available for dining. Lu rou fan- Loved this!! The flavor and consistency of the sauce is exactly what it's supposed to taste like. Braised beef noodles- Absolutely loved the springiness of the noodles and the depth of the aromatic soup. The beef was very tender and was braised properly because the meat fell apart as soon as I bit into it. Bok choy to the rescue in helping mellow out the heaviness of the meat and broth. Aside from the delicious and authentic food, the service was also very friendly and quick. I ordered at the kiosk up front and got my order within 10 mins after I ordered. I do think the beef noodle soup, although tasty, was a bit overpriced but the Lu rou fan was definitely worth it. It is highly likely I'll be back if I'm ever in the mood for Taiwanese food.

Disappointed with the bento box - Popcorn Chicken Bento 鹽酥雞便當

I desperately wanted to like this place because I've been on the long search for authentic good Taiwanese food on the east coast. The food is authentic but the bento boxes (at least when you order to go) can really be improved. We ordered the popcorn chicken bento box and was just shocked at how much white rice they give you and little amount of popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was nothing special. It also came with vermicelli and this really bland Napa cabbage as sides. Honestly vermicelli as a side is so strange and overload on carbs - I think it'll be better if it was switched out to another vegetable such as bean sprouts, green vegetables, etc.. I was surprised they didn't flavor the white rice with braise pork sauces. With how much competition Gulp has around the neighborhood they really need to improve on their bento box selections. Their breakfast menu actually stands out more to me than their regular menu. The options are pretty affordable. The place has a more casual cafe ambiance than a sit down restaurant ambiance. Maybe if I had dined in it would be a different experience? The photos had looked better for the dined in Bento boxes for some reason. The take out was mediocre.

usually there's a line and the only option is to go but we came around 3:40 pm and were able to dine in (there are only about 5 seats) got the combo and they were super generous with the sauce. honestly if i wasn't flying i would've taken the remaining to go. the popcorn chicken was so elite. crispy on the outside & super juicy inside - v similar to what i've had in taiwan cucumber salad was l flavorful and garlicky!! really refreshing and crunchy with a nice balance to the other items.

Food is incredible but my most recent visit I told the hostess, after an hour of waiting, that I had to step out to use the bathroom (they don't have one). Within 5 minutes of me going around the corner and back they said my table was ready, then promptly cancelled my spot (check screenshot, it was literally one minute apart) and said I had to get back on line. No love for the food can repair that experience. Good lord.

Gulp is my favorite Taiwanese spot in LIC! I ordered dinner from here twice and each time was amazing so I decided to come in person today for breakfast. Before I talk about breakfast, I'll talk about dinner. They give generous portions for their Lu Rou fan and bento sets. I also like how their pork is lean and not fatty - which is really important for me. They package it well too in quality bags. For breakfast, they serve set menus if you sit in restaurant and it's pleasant being able to see your food made right in front of you. Limited seating but the vibe is kind of eat and leave, so not a big deal. The lady who took our order was also really nice and asked if it was our first time visiting/how we heard about them, which I appreciated because it shows they remember their customers 10/10 highly recommend!!!

Warning it is a very small shop with only 5 high chairs facing the kitchen so if you don't come at a lucky time, wait can easily be 30mins if you're waiting for people to finish up as food does take awhile come too. Luckily I only waited a few minutes for a table but long time for food. Got the beef combo set for each of us and it was $30 each, more expensive than previous menu (!!) but the combo set does includes a super super small chicken soup cup, iced tea (meh), popcorn chicken (the best thing here!), and bowl of noodles/veggies. The beef in the soup was veryyyy tender (amazing) and noodles were delicious too. And the combo set had a lot of food included so even though it's more pricey at $30 you'll still definitely be filled! Other combo sets with chicken or pork over rice were like $25. There's no menu just a QR (https://www.gulpjiabun.com/jiabun-dinein-menu-classic-taiwanese-food) The service however was quite bad (at least only from the front desk girl!). The other girls and guys working in the back were great with providing noodle refill, takeout bags, and friendly! Just the front desk girl that was giving a little bit of a fresh snarky vibe ever since the beginning when we were looking for the menu on the kiosk since there were no physical menus and got scolded that since we're dining in we shouldn't look there but did not tell us anything else. Tables were also still dirty as she only picked trays up and barely wiped. When we ordered, we said we both wanted the same noodle combo and she judgingly said in a tone that implied we should've known better, that we both need to order a combo set but that's exactly what we said?? Anyways, at the end, we wanted take out containers and bag which the guy so kindly and detail oriented packed everything in separate containers so nice. When paying my friend asked for the thicker bag to carry the food and she rudely said the thin plastic thank you bags were enough while at the same time when other guy kindly gave me two for me and the friend. Overall the front lady just didn't seem friendly. But she was friendly to her regulars. Felt unwelcoming because of this but foods/price is ok

Very solid place especially since it's one of the few places in LIC thats open late on a weekday! It was a cold winter night, and I really wanted to have soup, so having their beef noodle soup really hit the spot. Really like how they have these sets, and the one I got came with a free extra serving of noodles to fully utilize the soup. This place is really small (only 5ish seats of bar seating). If you need to use the bathroom, you need to go to the secret bar in the back and use theirs. There were a lot of take out orders, so I imagine this restaurant is manly servicing people who live in the area. My main complaint is that compared to Taiwan, the prices are so much higher. No fault to the restaurant since I'm sure this is a symptom of US and NYC pricing, but if you make a direct comparison food always will taste better when it's better value. Overall would recommend especially as a late night weekday place when there's less competition for dining in seating (waited ~10 minutes).

Outstanding. Be prepared for a bit of a wait if you are planning to sit inside but well worth it. Highly recommend the beef noodle soup set. Add a bit of the pickled greens and let thr soup do the rest. Once again the best version of this I have had in the US. Great service.

But the food just wasn't great. I got the fried eggplant, pea shoots, big chicken bun. Everything was as pictured, the portions were good. But, in general, I would have loved if everything just had a bit more flavor? The only dish out of the three I really liked were the pea shoots but at the end of the day they're just peashoots stir-fried in oyster sauce, topped with fried garlic. The eggplant was very bland by itself on a layer of what I think is greek yogurt(?) topped generously with cashews and fried garlic. The chicken bun was also quite flavorless except I think the sauce had some weird flavor to it that tasted like the tofu in it had fermented to me? I actually couldn't even finish my burger and gave half of it to my roommate and she said it was good but that it was a bit too spicy for her? And there's nothing in the ingredients that should be spicy, so there was definitely some funk in that sauce. Which is a shame because if the chicken were a bit more seasoned and they stuck with a regular kewpie blend it could have been a pretty standard burger. Same with the eggplant, I ended up throwing some sugar and soy sauce and stir-frying it to a more classic chinese style and it ended up tasting immensely better especially with the creamy sauce on the bottom giving a contrasting but balancing taste. I can see what Win Son is trying to attempt with their flavors I suppose...but it's just not for me. I will admit I did order delivery, so take this review with a grain of salt. I also do usually try to go to a restaurant in person to give them a fair chance if I see that the food may have potentially been better but just been knocked down due to delivery times and containers. But seeing how the flavors just weren't there for Win Son, I wouldn't want to return even for that. Edit: Gave it an extra star because I assume the service and ambiance here must be amazing. But the food? 2/5

I hope this plan works out because Four Four South Village is forking amazing. More so, I want a Four Four South Village in my home town. They have one of the most amazing stocks I have ever had in a bowl of Asian noodles. I have never been a super-fussy-about-the-stock pho eater. But Four Four South Village convinced me there is a higher better way. For those who want to climb peaks looking for the ultimate stock at the temple at the top of the mountain, This is a noble calling and the rewards for pure-minded search will be great. Four Four South Village is a serious candidate to be the temple on the highest mountain. * * * Footnotes: 1) Tomatoes are a great thing to put in your soup. 2) Get tripe and tendon to put in your soup. Tendon is particularly amazing. The actual beef called beef is actually on the tough side. It is the only downside to this beautiful place. 3) Spice congregates at the bottom of the bowl. Be aware. You are minding your own business and then you take a spoonful drawn heavily from the bottom of the bowl. That will wake you up. A lot. 4) Side dishes rule here. Get more than just soup. They have an amazing pressed tofu buried in a mound of fresh cilantro. Usually I loathe, execrate, despise and abhor cilantro. I once wrote in another review that I have a court order out on cilantro. Cilantro has to stay at least 200 yards away from my house. Cilantro can only visit my children in the presence of a social worker. I will make an exception to the court order for the pressed tofu and cilantro at Four Four South Village. That dish was so good Cilantro and I may decide to go into couples counseling to see if we can make our relationship work. * * * All in all, Four Four South Village is absolutely amazing.
