Came in on one of the coldest days this winter so far! There's a good amount of seating and service is efficient. Food always hits the spot. They do serve their dim sum in smaller portions like 4 instead of 6 but that's not a bad thing if you like variety.

Quick service. Plenty of tables for large groups. Food is just okay, doesn't taste freshly made in house.

We were able to walk in for a late lunch on Saturday and there was a decent amount of seating available. The restaurant is casual and the tables were close together in the section we were in. They were out of rice rolls, which was disappointing! We ordered 6 items for 2 people, and it was enough food. We ordered the shrimp dumpling, taro cilantro pork dumpling, soup dumplings, pork and crab sui mai, spring rolls, turnip cakes. Everything was standard, and came out quickly. Not the best dim sum, but a decent spot in the area to get your dim sum fix.

Another addition to the growing collection of Chinese restaurants in LIC -- but unfortunately quite a step below the many other delicious options in the area. I came for an early brunch on a Sunday, and there were plenty of tables available for our party of 2. I have to say, it is an interesting experience to order and eat from a Chinese dim sum menu while sitting in a restaurant with interior design that's still in the style of the old-time diner that used to occupy this space for the past century. We ordered some selection of dim sum options, which were largely pretty mediocre. The steamed spare ribs -- always a classic -- were a letdown. The meat was hard to chew, and the flavour just had very little depth (meat itself was bland and there was barely any flavour from the sauce). The turnip cake (usually one of my favourites) was similarly bland and dry. Chicken feet and the har gow (shrimp dumplings) weren't too bad. The shrimp dumplings were very juicy, but tasted a bit overcooked. The chicken feet were probably the highlight -- tender and juicy. The price point was also really high, not only for the amount and quality of food we had, but even just in comparison to the many, far better restaurants in the neighbourhood. I feel like this was just a rather disappointing experience overall, and I don't think I plan to come back in the near future.

Cuisine: 3 Service: 6 Decor: 7 Value: 4 Overall: 4 With all the great Chinese food in NYC, I'm surprised a new restaurant from a popular chain can's find a better chef to open this branch. Sorry to be blunt, but the food here is edible, but far below average. The best dish of the night was probably the Snow Pea Leaves w/ Garlic. The Eggplant Casserole w/ Salted Fish & Diced Chicken was not bad either. Unfortunately, the rest were mostly forgettable. Peking Duck was one of the worst I ever had. The carver had no idea how to properly get the most yield from the duck carcass. Sadly I can do a better job. Only good part of the dish was the pancakes. The Sautéed Black Sea Bass Fillet was tender but falling apart at the same time. Its second half of the dish, the fish soup, lacked the flavor I was hoping for. Salt & Pepper Pork Chops were dry and hard from over frying. Same goes for the Stir Fried Dry Squid. Long Island City seems to be the next big Asian food area in NYC, but why is the quality continuously so poor. i guess they are catering to a different crowd because my friends and I will not return.

LIC NY area has become a busy upscale mixed Residential, commercial, all levels restaurants, parks, gyms, shops and etc. For the the lunch special special and dim sum prices I expected tasty dishes but was sadly disappointed. I do not recommend this restaurant, I do recommend to take the subway to Chinatown and get much reasonably priced tasty food!

came here with a party of three for dinner and it was fairly packed so I thought it might be decent but was pretty disappointed. we got a bunch of dim sun to share - none of which stood out and mostly tasted like frozen items I could get at an asian grocery store. we also got the soft shell crab to get a complementary lobster but both were just ok. Price is slightly higher than traditional dim sum you can find in sunset park, flushing, chinatown and dont think I would recommend any of the tasteless steamed dim sum here.

It's quite pricey compared to Chinatown / Flushing prices, but that's to be expected. Each of the dim sum is around $8. Not pictured are the fried shrimp rolls. Everything was tasty! They served it fresh and hot. It's better than most dim sum places I've had in NYC.

We got here before 11 am on a Saturday. There was no wait. We were seated in the back with some booth/bench type seats, which is great for the tot. I was surprised by the decor since it looked like they did not renovate from the previous owners. It looks like it was a bar prior to the dim sum occupation. I haven't been to the chain before, so I wasn't prepared for the lack of dim sum cart ladies. Instead they have a menu that you can check off. Presumably everything is made to order. They already did not have some items available. The turnip/radish cake was quite fresh. I could taste the individual radish pieces. I enjoyed the sticky rice, the rice was not congealed like it normally is when it sits for too long. The beef chow fun was okay. The flavor was decent, but the noodles were too cut up. I think the noodles were not fresh. I like that they had the salty egg buns. They were delicious. The tripe was very fresh too. The service was a step above the normal dim sum experience as well. I would come back!

Decided to try out Dim Sum Palace's new location for date night and it was okay. We had really high hopes for a go to Dim Sum spot in LIC but it left us hoping for more. Some dishes were close to inedible and others were just okay. We think it's worth it to travel to Flushing or Chinatown for much better Dim Sum.

Grand opening this week! We went for dim sum during weekday lunch and their service was pretty fast. The menu is the same as their other locations, but right now they have a few items not available, which they indicate on the menu. We really wanted the bbq duck/pork set but it was not ready during the lunch time. The ambience is great. They did some renovating to the existing restaurant that was there, and it turned out beautifully. There is ample seating for both smaller and larger groups. The tofu dish we got was reheated improperly though - I could taste the center of the filling being cold while the rest of it was steaming hot. Dumplings were good. Sweet/sour fish was good but needed to be crispier. Hope to come for dinner or weekend lunch in the future since a lot of the dishes might become more available. I think they're still working out the kinks but we are super excited for a full on dimsum and Cantonese option in the area.

I'm so glad there's a good dim sum spot in LIC! Came with a group on a Sunday morning and didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes to get a table. We started with a pot of jasmine tea to share, which was delicious then we got a bunch of different dim sum, including taro bun, scallion pancakes, barbecue pork buns, and porridge. Everything tasted fresh, and they even helped cut up the taro buns so we could share them! I'm sad that the rice noodle rolls were unavailable when we went (hope they restock soon!), all in all a wonderful dim sum experience!

    Neil H.

Overall, a mixed experience, but not worth a second visit. We found the scallion pancakes to be good, the half crispy Peeking Duckling to be too dry and the black peppercorn puffs horrible and tasteless, Service was so-so on a Saturday afternoon. As for the restaurant, much of the original architecture from the old Italian Steakhouse has remained in place. A bit of investment could have made this restaurant into a jewel of an Asian palace. So there was no vibe eating here. In my opinion management should reconsider their concept and brighten up the place with lanterns and art work befitting an Asian restaurant.

Shredded crispy duck is lean, crisp (living up to its name) and in my estimation, perfect! A half order is $33 and comes with crepes and what I guess is thin-cut celery and hoisin sauce. Our other two dishes merit maybe four stars. I had high hopes for prawns with black bean sauce and minced pork, but there was little pork and the dish was under-seasoned. Beaten egg white, a component of the sauce, was almost raw and when separated from the black beans, runny and unappealing. When I inquired about 'vegetarian delight,' our server suggested creating our own dish. Four sautéed vegetables for $16. I went with bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms and fried tofu. I asked for a flavorful sauce. I believe we got garlic, but it was too subtle, not garlicky enough.. Service is on-the-ball. Ambience is lovely. And Saturday night, hours before the dreaded snowstorm, the restaurant was busy. Reservations recommended.

Some of it is more Americanized, so the place is actually perfect to go to in groups of people with varying comfort levels when it comes to Chinese cuisine. I personally love the sheng jian bao (生煎包)(crispy bottom steamed dumplings with a more fluffy skin than regular jiaozi/gyoza-style dumplings)! For me, it's expensive, but it comes with the location, and it isn't more expensive than other nearby restaurants. The place is clean, and cozy. For these reasons I would usually give 4 stars, but what really truly sets this place apart is the wait staff. They are so nice! I live in the building next door, so I come to Hui often with my two screaming kids (6yo and 2yo). The staff is so nice to them! One waitress speaks treats them like they're her own grand kids who desperately need to be fed and spoiled. She even feeds my 2yo with his fork and succeeds in getting him to eat broccoli (!!!), which I've never once been able to do myself. The rest of the staff is warm-hearted and happy, and always happy to see us, no matter how hungry (and therefore drowning in tantrums) we are. Love going here so much! 10/10 for service :D

I thought the fish was very much the star and it reminded of the fried fish that I would always get in college which is a high praise because I think about that fish at least once a month. The fish was very crispy and also tender on the inside. I wish there was more fish as I feel like the pot had a lot of onions inside. - Taiwan Three Cup Chicken - I thought this dish was okay and can skip. Each chicken piece was a bit small and the sesame oil flavor didn't come through as much. Overall, great experience at Hui and I will be back! Also the servers there were so nice and had excellent music taste. We sat there for almost 4 hours talking and they never forced us to leave and even filled our waters. We are so grateful!

Even the bathrooms reinforce the theme: clean, but bare-bones. The sinks in each bathroom dispense only cold water, and the lone option for drying your hands is a weak electric dryer that blows cold air--functional, but joyless. The food follows a similar philosophy. We ordered a pot of tea, hot & sour soup, egg white drop with beef soup, chives and pork dumplings, BBQ roast pork, Mongolian lamb with ginger, and prawns in XO chili sauce. The dishes were generally abstemious--nothing flashy, nothing indulgent. My favorite by far was the hot & sour soup, which had the most personality on the table. The tea was serviceable, though charging $4 per pot felt oddly steep given the otherwise Spartan vibe. The dining room is tidy and austere, clearly optimized for efficiency rather than comfort. It's easy to see why this place does brisk business for takeout and lunch--get in, get fed, get out. The only thing that is not parsimonious is the price; our lunch came to $114 before tipping. Located on the Upper East Side, Café Evergreen has long been a neighborhood staple for Cantonese cuisine and dim sum. It's been around in one form or another since the 1990s, eventually settling into its current spot on First Avenue, where it helped popularize dim sum brunch in the area. There's history here, and an old-school sensibility that regulars clearly appreciate. Overall, Café Evergreen delivers consistency and tradition, but little warmth. If you're looking for straightforward Cantonese food in an unadorned setting, it does the job. Just don't expect luxury--or even mild indulgence--to be part of the experience.
