I came here to get takeout for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. There aren't many Taiwanese places in the area. I was surprised there was a lot of indoor seating. I ordered the popcorn chicken bento box lunch special ($9.50). The portion was larger than I expected. There was a good portion of popcorn chicken, braised pork over rice, yellow pickled radish, broccoli, braised cabbage, half a tea egg, and a cup of soup. The popcorn chicken was still crunchy when I came home but I did not taste much basil flavor. There was a lot of veggies surprisingly. It was a pretty balanced bento, sometimes bentos are mostly rice. The staff were friendly and fast. I would come back to try other lunch specials. read more

My office has ordered from here multiple times for lunch and I have also personally ordered from here as well just because it is so close to my work. I usually get an order of the potstickers which though greasy are flavorful and a nice side to whatever main I get. Additionally, I usually get a bento with soup which is a good combo. There is usually a bit too much rice for the amount of items it comes with. The veggies are usually a stir fried cabbage with boiled broccoli and a marinated half of an egg. For the main I usually get either the popcorn chicken or the sliced pork belly. The pork belly is pretty herty but I prefer the popcorn chicken which has a good flavor and is well fried. The flavors are nothing too extravagant or exciting but it is a quick lunch spot that is easy to order from. read more

Solid spot for standard comfort food. The popcorn chicken was nicely fried--crispy and satisfying. The braised beef rice was decent, with the sauce doing most of the heavy lifting. The beef noodle soup, though, was a bit underwhelming--the broth was quite mild and tasted mostly like diluted soy sauce. Taste was okay but it satisfied my craving and even ordered for to go after finishing a full meal there. Perk is if you order above a certain amount $35 they give you free salt and pepper chicken (can't beat that!). The only thing missing was stinky tofu on the menu but a lot of places don't make it right so even if they had it don't know if it matters because they had everything else I was looking for. Delicious food!! This small little restaurant tucked away in Brooklyn is a little gem of a place. I haven't found any small Taiwanese restaurants that brings back memories of Taiwan. As crazy as it sounds, shaved ice is really hard to mess up but I have not been to a place that made shaved ice just like I remember from Taiwan except here! I just ordered a Taiwanese shaved ice and it brings back memories from years ago when I had my first Taiwanese shaved ice. Their vermicelli noodles are also very flavorful and they offer small and large portions which is exactly how it's usually served in Taiwan. Sometimes I just want small eats and most places if not all places do not have much options to choose a small portion. I'd definitely come back here again and try their lunch boxes. The food is very affordable here. We initially ordered a large bowl of noodles and a small bowl of noodles with 2 drinks and 2 sausages that cost about $30. read more

Decent place in the area for fries and burgers. It's dark and there's loud music. One wall is covered in post it notes, and high schoolers sometimes hang out here to eat on the weekend. The servers are a bit slow to respond but the food is quick to come. Recommends: Fried chicken sandwich, spicy Fries Earl grey milk tea The menu also has hot chocolate fondue, which might be fun. I wanted to love this place, but I couldn't. I ordered an oyster vermicelli, passion aiyu drink, bbq sausage, popcorn chicken, and pork thick soup. This place really needs reorganization. When you come in, you have to line up and order regardless if your staying or ordering take-out. It was a Monday afternoon and it was packed with junior high kids coming from school and parents with strollers with kids. They didn't have the matcha red bean slush. It has been 40 minutes and I am still waiting for the oyster vermicelli, bbq sausage and pork thick soup. I went and spoke to the 3 people at the cashier and the delay was due to forgetting to give the order to the cook so we wasted 40 minutes waiting. They give me a herbal pudding as an apology. I understand today was the first day so I hope they change for the better in the future. The popcorn chicken is the closest thing to the Taiwanese taste that I ordered. The passion aiyu drink lacks aiyu. There's a lot of passion fruit flavor. The pork soup and the oyster vermicelli is very similar with a bit of sour and spicy as its soup base. read more

Great! Called in alittle over 11 and done in 15~20 as they said. They didn't ask if I wanted the Lunch or dinner bento so not sure is it all one size for now. Portion was big, popcorn chicken was nice and crispy, the rice was really delicious, came with veggies too. Egg on the side so isn't exactly warm. Soup is no go but comes with the set. read more

I ordered a popcorn chicken bento box and it seemed pretty average-- nothing special or unique about it. You should aim to get there before 4pm because that is when their lunch special ends. In the bento boxes, they give you a lot of rice, which is nice, and a bit of minced pork. The proportioning is off since you would be left over with a lot of rice since there is not too much of the minced pork. However, the combo did flow nicely and tasted pretty decent. With the bento box, you also receive a cup of hot soup. You would also have greens, including romaine lettuce, broccoli, and radish as well as two pieces of Japanese shumai. However, the lettuce didn't seem that fresh. The popcorn chicken was a bit dry so I needed to ask for ketchup, but it was a huge amount of chicken, which is very much worth your money. This bento box will definitely fill you up and it is very inexpensive. However, it is kind of confusing on whether or not you are being served. There are no waiters-- it's more of a self service dine in spot. You seat yourself and everything, but the workers end up coming to you to take your order. I wasn't really sure about how the tipping worked since the workers didn't technically serve us, but we still left a tip since they did bring us the food. Overall, it was alright. It is a nice place to snack on if you don't want to spend to much money for a full stomach. read more

The Popcorn Chicken came out hot and crispy, way too salty. Sweet Potato with Plum powder tasted very artifical. The Snow Ice with Fresh fruits was watered down and frozen canned friuts. That day me and I was so excited to find a Taiwanese restaurant in Brooklyn and then went tried after work. Their service is quite nice and have to say maybe the best in Brooklyn 8 Ave area. But their food was a little bit disappointing. We tried oyster and pork intestine vermicelli, minced pork dried noodles, diced friend chicken and Taiwanese fried chicken. The vermicelli was only like 70% similar to the real Taiwanese vermicelli. And you couldn't smell the spices from Minced pork dried noodles as in Taiwan they normally add some herbs to add flavors inside the mince pork. Fried chicken is too dry. In NY, maybe the taste is ok. But it's not even close to the Taiwanese flavor. read more

Not sure why this place has such a low rating, but it's essentially like a Vivi's (a small shop that also sells taiwanese snacks and drinks). I ordered a bento with bbq sausage. The bento comes with rice with pork on top, vegetables, 2 slices of pickled radish, a big serving of bbq sausage, and half a boiled egg. The bento was around $7 and is very filling. Definitely worth it for a quick grab and go lunch. I also shared an order of basil popcorn chicken and fried squid with my family. The basil popcorn chicken is definitely worth trying, as well as the fried squid. Both were extremely good and made fresh to order. The place is also mostly self-serve, only service is when they bring your food or drinks to your table. My family and I went on a Sunday morning right before the lunch rush and were able to get a table. Otherwise, there may be a wait. Definitely recommend stopping by here if you're in the area. A small and friendly located near 7th Ave 55th St at Brooklyn. This restaurant is Taiwanese Cuisine it's pretty similar to Chinese but just some specific traditional dishes that are different but similar. They have a lunch special from certain time to late noon. It comes with a soup and a large portion to even fill a heavy eater up! For me as an example. I highly recommended people to try all there "Bento Boxes" it's just too good! My favorites is the Braised Pork Belly! The meat is just so fat and right percentages of meat too! Very easy to be slice through with your fork. After a few weeks anticipating the opening of a new lunch spot near work, I was able to try what Taiwan Station has to offer. Granted it being their first week open, they managed to have a full house - from the looks of it, mostly mothers with children from the Pediatrician's office next door. This review is for the "braised pork rice" which costs $4.50. I ordered takeout and the cashier informed me that the wait would be around 15 minutes. I didn't expect speedy service as they are a new business, however, braised pork is normally pre-made in big batches. 15 minutes is a little long to scoop meat onto rice, no? Anyway, that is not why I'm disappointed. When I asked about portion size, she explained it wasn't a large order but good enough for one person. Sure, maybe for a 4yo.. There was barely any pork as shown in my photo - at least not enough to cover more than 1/3 of the rice, two slices of pickled daikon, and half a boiled egg. What little bits I had were the fat chunks from the pork belly they used for this dish. I remember other Taiwanese restaurants having more minced meat sauce in their chicken leg/pork chop over rice dishes. The seasoning was okay but nothing to write home about. Also, more msg than I'd like. Perhaps management wasn't prepared for the lunchtime rush and decided to stretch out what little portion of braised pork they had remaining. But I don't really think that's the case because my coworkers ordered the "pork thick noodle" and "squid thick noodle" and they had the same amount of protein as I did. In hindsight, I would only pay a maximum of $2 and I think that's generous. The flavor alone was not tasty enough to make it a worthy $4.50 dish. read more

My boyfriend and I came here around lunch time and ordered 3 bento box looking dishes: one with chicken leg, one with pork chop and another one with popcorn chicken. (Like always, my bf likes to order more than he can eat). Usually, he is able to finish most of his food but this time, he couldn't and surprisingly, I couldn't either. Why? Well first off, there was a lot of this fatty thing on top of our rice. I didn't mind it at first but it became overwhelming and tasted really greasy. I'm not sure why anyone would want to eat a pile of fat with their rice. At least make it more meaty or something? Secondly, I was kind of disappointed that the chicken leg and pork chop were both fried. The chicken leg, specifically, was mostly just fried skin. I highly suggest you order something else because when I read chicken leg, I envisioned BIG FAT and JUICY. The popcorn chicken or the pork chop are probably your two safest bets. As for drinks, I ordered a regular bubble tea. It was only $2.50 with the lunch combo that we ordered so I thought, why not? My bf, on the other hand, didn't like any of the $2.50 drinks so he ordered a strawberry slushie from the drink menu. Both were pretty decent. The bubble tea was on the sweeter end but it was to my liking. The tapioca was also soft and chewy. The strawberry slush wasn't bad either but it came with whipped cream on top, which I thought was a bit weird. Overall, this place was an interesting stop. Tried some new things but they didn't win me over. For some reason, though, this place is super popular amongst families with kids. I don't know if it's the cute decor or the low prices or maybe some delicious food option I have yet to try? They may not be as good as the Taiwan Bear House in Chinatown but still pretty decent. I'll definitely return to try other dishes. If you want to add a bubble tea it's extra $2.50. Prices are fair and the food tastes pretty decent. My favorite is the popcorn chicken. This review is solely for the desserts! I came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night after finding out Mango Mango was closed. I was pretty confused by the service at this spot. Walking in - no one was there to greet you or seat you so we just sat ourselves. We were also confused on how to order - do we order by ourselves by the register or does someone come by and take your order??? An employee seemed to notice how confused we were so she came up and took our order. We ordered the Mango Snow Cream in a large - keep in mind the dessert menu here is REALLLLLLY limited. Mango Snow Cream - this was by far the WORST shaved ice dessert I have ever ate in my life!!! The "shaved ice" was sooooo thick, not light and fluffy AT ALL! When I put the shaved ice in my mouth - it doesn't melt instantly... it turns into an ice cream kind of texture... needless to say it was nasty. The mangos that came with it were either bitter or no flavor. The marshmallows topping was SUPER chewy. Overall, would not recommend this to ANYONE. Besides the thick soup. Don't get the thick soup. Service is alright, tipping is not necessary (I think? I do it anyways though), and the place has just the right amount of seating. Another reason why I would come here is that Chi Ken charges $8.71 for the Popcorn Chicken Bento box while this place only charges $6.25, and their portion is MUCH better than Chi Ken. Lets start off by saying the food here is good, it's basically a drink shop with pretty good fast Taiwanese food. There are no waitresses, hostess, no there is no valet parking, no wine vault, you follow? This is a mom and pop shop where they make good food. This is no Michelin star restaurant and they don't pretend to be. Some people deign themselves the next coming of some food critic god, keep in mind that the lunch special here is less than 7 dollars, this is a great budget option serving cheap, filling food in a clean establishment with a smile.
