Beef Lover Noodle Soup
Evan M.

They recently switched to a smaller, noodle-focused menu, and it was a great move. You get to choose the broth and noodle type you want, and the selection is fantastic. The portions are awesome for the price. My beef noodle had everything: beef slices, stewed beef, beef balls, ground beef, fried tofu, quail egg, spam, and tons of tripe. They also moved to a self-serve, no-tip service, where you order at the counter, which is great if you want to save on tip money. If you like hotpot but don't want to cook everything yourself, this is a great alternative. I highly recommend this spot if you're craving noodles.

The restaurant is like a Hong Kong style cafe. We ordered popcorn chicken, assorted meat Pearl noodle, chicken chop salad, pork chop fried instant noodle and a red bean slush. The popcorn chicken are big pieces of chicken breast. It was very tasty and not dry. The noodles has the Chinese wok taste which is very authentic. The chicken chop salad is good too. You get to pick the dressing you want. I like the red bean slush but I will need a spoon next time to scoop the red bean. The staffs are very friendly. They did not rush use out of the restaurant. They have afternoon specials starting at 2:30pm. It a snack and a drink. I will need to go back to try it.

Passed by here a few times that it became added to my bookmark list for the name of the shop. When it first opened, I had nabbed a menu in hopes to try it soon... that menu differs from the current selection. They had remover alot of the original options and now it is left with some options. Came here finally with friends and my husband for an early dinner. Online said close at 9pm but after calling, we found our they close at 7:30pm on a Saturday so we came 6pm for dinner. Most of their offerings were sold out or unavailable. They mainly have the salad and noodle soups only. The noodle soups were only available in limited broth flavors. While there are paper menus (black/white copies) on the tables, there were black and white copies taped on their counter. Order at the front and sit to wait. Meals will be brought out on trays and then you return the trays. Many tables were left uncleaned for awhile. When we walked in, we saw 2 tables occupied but at least 3 tables (2 booths) uncleaned and filled with dishes. All tables seems to be eating noodle soups on this cold day. I originally planned to get a rice or salad dish but changed to soup since it was cold and the only thing available. Soup broth isn't anything amazing. I didn't enjoy my food as much. Food was okay. Alot of people walked in and had to ask for tables to be clear. Not sure if they all enjoyed the meals as it was quiet. I also noticed the lady using the same pair of gloves to wipe tables. It was left at their cleaning station. I usually watch to see if servers change gloves and wash hands in between clearing tables before setting out new place settings (napkins & utensils) as dirty hands shouldn't touch and set up new utensils on clean tables. One of our group's order was the wrong noodle. My husband asked for rice noodle while I asked for udon noodles. He got udon. The chicken in our noodles were dry/overcooked. I think the salad looks pretty good. The salad is a cross between a poke bowl and salad. Looks very fulfilling with generous portions. Our friend really enjoyed it. Recommend: staff pay more attention on cleaning and change out their gloves more often. Wash hands in between before placing new place settings on tables. Kitchen should improve the broth flavors. Overall, nothing special and wasn't much to talk about. Some ingredients seem odd and mismatched. Will not return... there are better options nearby. Took a few pics to show random dishes still in tables, and people had to ask for it to be clear.

Baked Pork Chop Rice with black pepper sauce

If you're coming for outstanding food, this isn't it, but if you want something comforting and still delicious, this would be one of the better spots within this area. I'm comparing it to my recent Ting Fai and Legend Cafe visits, so this definitely wins, even though the menu isn't as expansive as the other two restaurants. French Toast with Condensed Milk: enjoyed especially as they drenched it in condensed milk but there was a little too much peanut butter in this for me. Stir Fry Spicy Pot: I think the large will probably feed 3-4 people if you order other stuff as well. It doesn't really hit the spot if you're craving a really oily, flavorful mala dry pot that you usually get in Flushing. But if you want a milder, cleaner (less greasy) version of dry pot, this is probably your thing! I loved all the ingredients in this version but they use a thicker sliced fatty beef instead of the usually thin hot pot sliced beef. Baked Rice With Pork Chop in Black Pepper Sauce: I especially love baked rice dishes but I've been disappointed far too many times! The sauce is super peppery, the pork chop is very juicy and they give a very good portion of the meat. Surprisingly this container isn't stuffed with rice, so you're not overeating, but I can see that as a complaint too since it's not filled to the brim 100%.

No table service, you get your own menu and order at the front. I got supreme soup with mala base and vermicelli noodles. Shredded chicken is sooo good

A new spot on 86st! I wanted to like it so bad but the food was a miss. It was a little bland and the milk tea bowl was disappointing. Service - 3/5 Food - 3/5

128. Kumquat Lemon Slush
Mei Qin Z.

Happy Salad is a charming Hong Kong-style cafe on 86th Street in Brooklyn, with an extensive menu of flavorful and authentic Hong Kong-style dishes, and then some. Oddly enough, the establishment is named "Happy Salad", though salad is the last thing on my mind when looking over their menu (and, with a menu this extensive, it should be the last thing on yours too). * Kumquat Lemon Slush $5.50 Sweet, tangy, tart, and refreshing, this is the BEST kumquat lemon slush I have ever had! Honestly, I was a bit skeptical when it first arrived at the table (I mean, look at the color, can you blame me?), but after my first sip, I couldn't stop raving about it. * Stir-Fried Spicy Pot (Small) $18.95 Boy, the photos are misleading... what about this is small?! It comes in a big bowl and the ingredients are plentiful-- with chicken chop, shrimp, fish balls, beef slices, spam, broccoli, tofu puff, corn, bean sprouts, mushrooms, potatoes, kelp slices, carrots, and wood ear mushrooms. We ordered it medium spicy or 中辣 and it was a bit too mild for my liking, but after taking it home (and letting it sit in oil), it was absolutely perfect! * Chicken Ham and Cheese Sandwich $7.25 I enjoyed this but my sister didn't, which is ironic too considering how adamant she was on ordering it. The sandwich itself is a bit sweet-- with grilled chicken, ham, cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, and thousand isle dressing. * Cheese Baked Spaghetti with Baked Pork Chop in Black Pepper Sauce $10.50 We haven't had many baked rice and/or spaghetti dishes to compare this to, but this was absolutely phenomenal! The spaghetti was al dente, the pork chop was juicy and moist, and the black pepper sauce was super rich and peppery, bursting with flavor. I definitely can't wait to return and try some of their other dishes!

Great service but the food was lacking flavor. Comfortable seating with booth and table. HK style menu with baked goods , sandwiches, rice and noodle dishes. The portions were small compared to its competitors in the neighborhood. The shrimp and crabmeat scrambled egg sandwich was a disappointment as it lacks flavor and not worth the price.

Salt and pepper squid
Ginger S.

We've been here numerous times as this became our new little place to eat. Food is average to above average. Their booths are new and comfortable, giving us a nice quiet place to enjoy each other's company and the meal. So far, it's been low foot traffic but the food has been fresh. The waitress is always helpful and friendly with translating our menu choices. This time, we tried the salt and pepper squid which has a nice spicy flavor to it. The pieces were large and not cut up, which is okay. Tasted overall fresh. Nice and crispy to our liking. The mapo tofu was a bit salty and spicy. But, not as good as a mapo tofu dish at a Szechuan restaurant. It was still enjoyable.

Angela S.

Quite homey feeling HK cafe spot that just opened. Wouldn't say any of the food is outstanding, but hits the spot, especially when you're hungry as servings are decently large. Highly recommend getting the popcorn chicken. Black pepper beef with rice was also very good as well!

1. Stir-fried Spicy Pot (small with instant noodles)
Angie L.

The name of the restaurant is misleading because they served alot more than salads. It is more like a HK cafe. The restaurant is clean and roomy, and they have booth tables. The servers are very attentive and nice here. The food taste good and portions size are bigger than expected given some reviews on other sites said it's small (it is definitely not small). We got the small spicy pot which is big enough to share with two people. The baked Portuguese rice was tasty. We also tried the beef stew noodle soup with hor fun. Of course we had to try the salad so we got the shrimp and crab stick salad and the black pepper steak salad. Everything was tasty and better than expected. We tried the shaved ice for dessert. The ice wasnt finely shaved but was still tasty and portion was huge. Can be shared with 3 people. Overall really good food and service.

Great place with good food! Very flavorful and big portions. Service was great and very nice people. Ambiance was pleasant and peaceful during the night I went. This place actually surprised me since outside says Happy Salad, but their menu covers way more than just salad. They have from boba drinks, desserts, sandwiches, baked rices to pretty much everything you'd find in a Hong Kong cafe type of restaurant! Highly recommend!

My first order with Happy but great salad and on time. Picked it up and was ready when I arrived. They have a repeat customer.

I asked to sub rice for noodles because one of my kids is a rice pot (can't go without rice) and requested extra sauce, which they kindly provided. The set meals are a fantastic deal; a full size entree, an appetizer and a drink for $19-20. An extra order of noodles is $2.50 and it's really double the amount of noodles that comes in your entree. I also ordered their new dish with has abalone and sea cucumber; this is not part of a set meal. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has that umami sweetness that comes from a great soup base and the noodles are delicious as usual. The abalone was tender, the sea cucumber had a bite to it. There was fish maw and wood ear in there as well.

Barely any flavor. 5/10 The mala pork intestine soup noodle: I got the regular spiciness level and it was actually quite spicy. If you can't tolerate spicy food, try mild or medium first. The pork intestine is bit chewy. Otherwise the flavor is good. 8/10 The seafood tom yum soup noodle: mild tom yum flavor. The soup base is slightly on the sour side. Overall is good. 8/10 Thai style soup noodle: the soup flavor is good. Not too spicy. 9/10 We also tried the brown sugar rice cake: it's just ok. Not crunchy enough. The brown sugar is missing some caramelized flavor. So it is a sweet rice ball. 5/10 I think the temperature inside would be fine if you go during a cool day. When it's a hot day, the restaurant could get very hot even if they turn on both ACs. With just 2 ACs insides, and eating a hot bowl of spicy soup noodle, we were all sweating inside. Though the food is good, I would not return during summertime. It's just too hot to enjoy a good bowl of hot soup noodle.

We walked into a simple, fast casual setup that focuses more on the food than the atmosphere, with a clean, functional space designed for quick meals and takeout rather than lingering. The ordering counter is straightforward, and the staff moves efficiently, keeping the flow moving even during busy lunch periods. The hand pulled noodles are the biggest highlight, with thick, chewy strands that have a satisfying texture and hold onto the sauces well. We ordered a few different noodle dishes, and the flavors leaned bold with chili oil, spices, and savory seasonings that give the dishes their signature Shaanxi style profile. The stewed pork and beef options were both generous and filling, but the lamb dishes stood out with a strong cumin flavor that brought a deeper, more aromatic taste to the table. The lamb burger is another unique item, combining seasoned lamb with a crispy, handheld format that feels different from typical restaurant offerings. The noodles themselves are the main draw, but the lamb burger is worth adding to the order if you want to try something beyond the bowl. Service is quick and efficient, making it a convenient option for lunch or a casual dinner. Portions are generous for the price, and the menu has enough variety to try different dishes across multiple visits. The spice level can be adjusted, but many dishes naturally lean toward bold and spicy flavors, so keeping that in mind is worth it if you prefer milder food. Xi'an Famous Foods is a reliable spot for anyone craving hand pulled noodles and strong, flavorful Chinese dishes. The chewy noodles, cumin lamb, and unique menu items make it stand out from more traditional Chinese restaurants, especially for a quick meal that still feels distinctive and satisfying. It is not a place for a long, leisurely dinner, but for a fast, flavorful bowl of noodles that delivers on texture and spice, it hits the mark well.

It is a chaotic mess for the volume they are trying to do. It's not about adding more manpower, it's about streamlining. Plus, it had a side salad to balance all the grease here. For the entrees, we had to get the udon and shared the Niku Udon ($25) and Salmon Ikura Udon ($30). It was a nice combo between a hot and cold udon. The Niku was your classic udon bowl filled with plenty of beef and a perfectly soft-boiled egg. The broth was sweet and savory for a warm and comforting meal. On the other hand, the salmon udon was quite unique with matcha udon and fresh salmon. There is a dashi to pour and mix into the noodles, which still gave it flavor and the slurp you want in a udon. Both were so great in its own way. Even their ramen also looked great, but I love all noodles. Definitely a great spot to dine near Barclays Center. Love to come back whenever I'm in the area again. The udon dishes are on the pricier side, but they're huge bowls.
