As a chinese american from LA who grew up in the 626, this place gets my stamp of approval! I got the dry beef noodle and wow it was amazing. it is so flavorful, so garlicky and spicy and just seasoned to perfection. The meat was tender and delicious and the noodles were absolutely amazing, chewy and bouncy. We ordered the braised dry noodles with the prism-style noodles (wide, chewy, and so satisfying) and the spicy noodle soup with thin noodles. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The broth was rich and well-seasoned, and the noodle textures really stood out in both dishes. I'd skip adding the egg next time since it didn't add anything special. They also offer yuzu sake, and we tried the Yuzumon, which paired really well with both the soup and the dry noodles. If you like heat, you can ask for extra spice from the back. We ordered: Special Dry Pork Noodles w/Marinated Egg Stewed Beef Tripe Noodles w/Marinated Egg Scallion Pancake The marinated egg is not like the Japanese jammy ramen egg so I'd opt out of this additional cost. The photo vs. what you actually get for the pancake look very different, the appetizer itself is quite thin and you can't really see any scallions. We've always wanted to try the Prism noodle type and oddly enough it's not the thickest but rather the form is twisted like a prism, so not that impressive. There are some nooks and crannies that are comparable between this 1915 location and the Chinatown 1915 location-this one seems more forgiving and less strict on noodle types, but doesn't offer complimentary water. We have been to the Chinatown location as well and it is pretty comparable. We typically get the same thing - two bowls of noodles and extra noodles for the kid. I was craving some hand-pulled noodles, so I decided to check out this restaurant! There were a few parties waiting outside, but since I was dining solo, I was able to grab a seat at the bar next to the kitchen. I actually really liked my spot--it gave me a great view of the chefs hand-pulling noodles and preparing dishes while I waited for my food. I ordered a lamb burger and the spicy oil noodles. The lamb burger came out quickly, and I have to say, it's the best Chinese lamb burger I've had in the city! I originally came for the noodles, but I almost always order a lamb burger when I visit hand-pulled noodle spots, so I stuck to that habit--and I'm so glad I did! The bun was incredibly fluffy, and the braised lamb inside was tender, making every bite a perfect balance of meat and bread. As for the seared oil noodles, they were flavorful at first, but the spicy oil--loaded with fresh minced garlic--quickly overwhelmed my palate. I found myself pausing often to sip water just to balance out the intensity. While I loved the texture of the noodles, the sauce just wasn't my favorite (though if you're a garlic lover, you might enjoy it more than I did). Next time, I think I'll try one of their noodle soups instead. While I was eating, I saw the kitchen preparing dumplings, so I ordered the veggie dumplings to go. They were shaped like little leaves--so cute!--and packed with flavor. Honestly, they didn't even need the dipping sauce, but I still recommend pouring a bit on top--the sauce pairs beautifully with the seasoning in the filling. I had a leg injury this year and am on the path to recovery but still limp a bit. Though I may prefer Very Fresh Noodles in Chelsea Market a bit more for their signature Taiwanese beef noodle soup (soy based), I really enjoyed what I had here as well. Unlike that one, the Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles here has a clear broth, which lacked some beefiness, but still quite good. My strong recommendation is to skip the thin noodles and go with the regular or one of the thicker/wider options. There is just a better chew when biting into a denser noodle. Other than soup noodles, there is a handful of dry noodles too. The surprise for me was how much I enjoyed the Stewed Beef Tripe Noodles. The intense flavor combination, a kick of spiciness, along with the slightly chewy beef tripe, paired magnificently with the freshly made hand pulled noodles (I got regular). These were some of the best noodles I have tasted in NYC, both texturally and flavor-wise. Obviously, prices are maybe 20-30% more than what I'm use to in Flushing, but I think it's worth it. TL;DR - independent XFF with more variety. Food (4/5) - Got braised beef noodle with extra wide noodles, and condensed milk buns. Portion sizes were pretty big for 10-15, I barely finished my bowl and it was basically my only meal for the day. The extra wide noodles were really big and I was lacking broth at the end - think I will try skinnier or maybe the prism noodle next time. They do taste fresh and have a good bite. The broth isn't too rich, doesn't weigh you down. The deep fried buns were great, it is a higher bun to condensed milk ratio than usual, the condensed milk is largely drizzled on the top.
