Salmon ikura udon.
Wendy W.

I had a major udon craving and ordered a couple of dishes for delivery. Their portions are huge. They really don't skimp on the size or quality for the price. I was obsessed with the cold salmon ikura udon, which came with chewy al dente matcha udon noodles and fresh, generous pieces of raw salmon. This was a great umami dish where all the textures and flavors came together wonderfully. It's perfect for summer when you want something refreshing and not too heavy, but you can't go wrong with ordering it any time of the year. The yakuzen curry udon was also good, but I prefer my Japanese curry a bit sweet and this leaned more in the salty-savory lane. The noodles also weren't as al dente as I expected after my salmon udon, but maybe that was a byproduct of getting delivery and needing to reheat this dish with everything together.

Our server was so attentive. Noticed when I accidentally dropped the chopsticks and immediately replaced them without me asking. The food was delicious. Massive portions and flavorful. Really liked that matcha. Strong, smooth and not so bitter. The decor is very Japanese themed as well. You can definitely bring friends and family that you want to impress here. Solid spot.

I would give this spot a 3.5 stars. We arrived on a weekend afternoon and the place was quite empty except for another table. They're known for their udon so we tried two udon dishes. One Niku udon which comes with broth, and the other is mentaiko udon which is warm but no broth. Service was okay but didn't stand out to me. They didn't spot by and check on us or refill our waters. I liked how they served water with lemon. I think this price was quite pricey as most of the udon dishes were about $25 and upwards. Their ramen dishes are a little cheaper at $20 upwards. I do think the portion size was good but should be expected as they're charging an hefty price. The Niku udon was okay, nothing spectacular but was decent. Again, nothing really stood out to me. There was a good amount of fatty beef, an onsen egg, and green onions. The mentaiko udon was tangy and sour. There wasn't much of a mentaiko flavor. It also had the same fatty beef. Again, was just okay and in fact, I preferred the Niku udon more. Overall: It's decent udon but nothing amazing and felt quite pricy for what it is. There are other restaurants that make their noodles in house and not charging these prices.

We ordered take out from this place. The udons were in paper bowls while the soups came in plastic bowls. The paper bowls were sturdy as there was no leakage of soup when poured in. It was definitely on the more expensive side as it was 26 dollars for a bowl of the Nikki udon on DoorDash but 25 on their website. I thought the udon was bouncy. I wish there was more udon. There was a lot of the beef brisket. If there was an option for a bit more udon and a bit less brisket for a few dollars less then I think it would be perfect.

Solid spot right by Barclays Center! I highly recommend their udon, since that's what they're known for. I DONT recommend the Salmon Don. It was very plain and it came with flavorless seaweed. It comes with a small dish of dipping soy sauce. While the portion size was plentiful, it was mostly tasteless. On the other hand, I enjoyed the apps! The Yakitori Skewers, especially, were soft and melted in my mouth! The Salmon Tartare and Vegetable Tempura were also good. Attentive + kind staff. Plenty of seating. Overall, great, convenient spot for a pre-Barclays meal.

Made reservations here before heading to Barclays, and I'm so glad I found this place! We started with the Karaage fried chicken and cheeseburger gyoza.. absolutely delicious! For drinks, we tried the rose sparkling water, which honestly tasted just like a rose smells like lol hard to explain, but so good! Definitely a must try. We also had the Takara Okinawa, which was not only stunning but also super fruity and refreshing. For entrees, my boyfriend had the Tori Karaage Don and loved it, while I ordered the Volcano Miso Ramen.. the broth was incredible, the pork and noodles were amazing as well . Everything we tried was delicious. I'll definitely be coming back!

I love udon and was excited to check this place out, but left feeling fairly underwhelmed. It's not that the food is bad, it's perfectly nice and the ingredients are fresh. I got to try the tempura udon which came out looking very beautiful -- two pieces of shrimp and a buncha vegetables plus this big ol bowl of udon with fresh minced ginger and other spices. But flavor wise it didn't stand out particularly to me. Certainly a step above your average Japanese spot but for its wildly inflated price (on one hand, I get it, if Ramen places can get away with prices like this why not udon. But on the other hand, ouch) I'm not sure it lives up to it. My friend got the curry udon which we agreed was nice but nothing to write home about. I want this place to succeed because I love Udon and it was a perfectly nice experience, but it'll be a while before I go back.

The curry udon's curry was a weird in between texture - too thick to be soup, too thin to really be curry. It was quite unconventional in several other ways - there were bell peppers in it (?!), it was spicy... this is not your traditional udon bowl. There was VERY little meat in my udon, and when you're paying almost $30 for a bowl of noodles, you expect to get more than a few thin little slivers of beef. The tempura was fried too thickly to let the ingredient shine, and the pieces were rather flavorless. The cherry on top: the bathroom area smells of sewage, similar to how the subway system smells on a bad day. This was not a good experience.

This review is for dinner. 100% come for the noodles - I was pleasantly surprised by just how good these dishes were, rivaling or even better than what you might find in Manhattan. I'll definitely be back. With that said, I would skip the apps and dessert. They were underwhelming. Ambiance is casual. Restaurant is a decent size and could fit larger-ish groups. Food: the star(s) of the show are the ramens and especially udon dishes. If I had to choose, I would do the udon over the ramen because I preferred the noodles more. But both were good. -Niku Udon: bouncy doughy thick noodles, rich flavorful broth, lots of meat (though some pieces were quite fatty). Would get again. -Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen: has some heat to it, but not too spicy. Similar to the above: rich flavorful broth, noodles perfect consistency. Would get again. -Yasai Esi Tempura Udon: bouncy doughy noodles, lighter broth. Comes with sooo much udon on the side! Would get again. For apps, Karaage Chicken was good and I'd order again (what you'd except from this dish). Flavorful, crunchy, and not greasy. Would skip on the Seaweed Salad and Udon Cracker with Salmon Tartare. Muteki Pudding wasn't bad, but I would ask for minimal soy bean powder.

If you're looking for a place to eat before a show at Barclay's center, I recommend this new spot! Got a reservation for 2 on the day-of and was seated immediately. It got a lot busier as we were leaving so definitely get a reservation before arriving! Udon Cracker with Salmon Tartare - the plate looks a little chaotic but the salmon itself was tasty. Could have lived without the udon crackers imo and I wish they just gave us a bowl of tartare instead of four individual small bites! 4/5 Tonkotsu Ramen - very solid, not too salty! 4.5/5 I would come back to try the udon next time, it looked really good!

I ordered the below: Matcha Latte Shiranui Citrus Juice 100% Tempura Appetizer Udon Cracker with Salmon Tartare Yakitori Skewer (2 pcs) Niku Udon (Hot Broth) Salmon Don (Raw Salmon) Muteki Pudding Yuzu Sorbet The salmon tartare and chicken skewers were my favorite apps! The udon portion was massive and filled me up. The broth was slightly sweet, savory, and piping hot. The rice bowl had fresh quality salmon slices and lots of fresh veggies too. Don't sleep on their drinks and dessert too because the pudding was so creamy and the sorbet reminded me of Ralph's in the best way! I also really enjoyed the Matcha Latte. Service was pretty good considering they were super busy and only 2 waiters were working. I was pleasantly surprised!

Great addition to the area. I had the mushroom udon. It's comforting and the portions are massive. A nice mix of mushrooms-- from what I remember, some rehydrated shiitake, an oyster mushroom or two, enoki and a morel to top. It's also topped with fresh spinach, scallion and a lemon wedge which worked well to my surprise. The udon seems freshly made and has a chewy bite. Service is friendly and efficient. Also had an almost half bottle of sake which I found very reasonably priced-- 300 ml at $15. Overall, recommend if nearby for a cozy, udon fix.

What kind of beef is used for the Sukiyaki Don and is it extremely fatty?

We used marinated and thinly sliced beef brisket, While it does have some fat for flavor and tenderness, it is not extremely fatty.

The broth and rice combination was really comforting and satisfying. This dish was something I wanted to try in Japan but did not get a chance to experience when there, so I was excited to try it at Ozakaya. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ramen here as well. Regardless, it's the best salmon roll I've ever had -- buttery with a delicate, fresh flavor wrapped in fragrant rice in perfect proportions. After experiencing the first salmon roll that I could stomach and finally understanding the hype a while ago, I've tried dozens of rolls throughout the city at many price points and this was my favorite experience. It's also relatively very affordable; my meal of a miso cod appetizer (flaky scrumptious simplicity), miso soup, a salmon roll, and green tea cheesecake came to $54 + tip. The service was also excellent. I'm the sort to dine solo with a novel, want to be completely left alone, and not notice the quality of service at all. The waitress provided the feel of an independent experience while also being very attentive, pleasant, and informative. There was an art to her skill that prompted me to observe and note an art to the service I rarely do. The staff was very watchful and reaction; everyone was well cared for. I'm inspired to try something over than a salmon roll. This seems to be the place to do it. I'll also add I was surprised to read the review on them refusing to let a guest take their leftovers home.
