3.5 rounding up to 4. Service was good and the ambiance was cute. I got the curry udon and it was good, but the broth itself was very oily and I'm not sure why. It had a slightly sweet aftertaste which I was not the biggest fan of.
Homemade udon is pretty good but the sauce is too sour. Spicy tonkatsu ramen is normal. Decor is interesting but very packed. Service can be better if not that busy.
Our server was so attentive. Noticed when I accidentally dropped the chopsticks and immediately replaced them without me asking. The food was delicious. Massive portions and flavorful. Really liked that matcha. Strong, smooth and not so bitter. The decor is very Japanese themed as well. You can definitely bring friends and family that you want to impress here. Solid spot.
We were hungry on our way to prospect park and stopped here for a late lunch around 2pm. There were only around 3 parties dining so we were immediately seated. Since they have handmade noodles, we ordered the karaage ramen and Niku udon. While the texture of the noodles were great and broth not too salty (which is good), the protein toppings were just OK. The beef in the Niku udon was overcooked so texture was springy and tough. Karaage in the ramen felt greasy and breading hard rather than crispy. Overall, the dishes were just OK for how much they costed. Staff was courteous, interior design was cool, and their bowls are beautifully shaped.
Solid spot right by Barclays Center! I highly recommend their udon, since that's what they're known for. I DONT recommend the Salmon Don. It was very plain and it came with flavorless seaweed. It comes with a small dish of dipping soy sauce. While the portion size was plentiful, it was mostly tasteless. On the other hand, I enjoyed the apps! The Yakitori Skewers, especially, were soft and melted in my mouth! The Salmon Tartare and Vegetable Tempura were also good. Attentive + kind staff. Plenty of seating. Overall, great, convenient spot for a pre-Barclays meal.
I came into Muteki Udon a bit skeptical since the prices initially felt on the higher side, but that quickly changed once the bowl arrived. The portion size lined up with the cost, and more importantly, the quality delivered. Every sip of the broth and every slurp of the udon made it clear this was a thoughtfully prepared dish. I went with the niku udon on recommendation and it lived up to it. The flavor was rich and satisfying, and the quality of the meat really stood out. What really put things into perspective was visiting Raku shortly after. At a similar price point, the difference in portion, flavor, and quality of ingredients was noticeable. Muteki felt more filling and more complete as a meal. I left genuinely happy with the experience and would definitely come back to try more of their udon options.
We ordered take out from this place. The udons were in paper bowls while the soups came in plastic bowls. The paper bowls were sturdy as there was no leakage of soup when poured in. It was definitely on the more expensive side as it was 26 dollars for a bowl of the Nikki udon on DoorDash but 25 on their website. I thought the udon was bouncy. I wish there was more udon. There was a lot of the beef brisket. If there was an option for a bit more udon and a bit less brisket for a few dollars less then I think it would be perfect.
The curry udon's curry was a weird in between texture - too thick to be soup, too thin to really be curry. It was quite unconventional in several other ways - there were bell peppers in it (?!), it was spicy... this is not your traditional udon bowl. There was VERY little meat in my udon, and when you're paying almost $30 for a bowl of noodles, you expect to get more than a few thin little slivers of beef. The tempura was fried too thickly to let the ingredient shine, and the pieces were rather flavorless. The cherry on top: the bathroom area smells of sewage, similar to how the subway system smells on a bad day. This was not a good experience.
I had a major udon craving and ordered a couple of dishes for delivery. Their portions are huge. They really don't skimp on the size or quality for the price. I was obsessed with the cold salmon ikura udon, which came with chewy al dente matcha udon noodles and fresh, generous pieces of raw salmon. This was a great umami dish where all the textures and flavors came together wonderfully. It's perfect for summer when you want something refreshing and not too heavy, but you can't go wrong with ordering it any time of the year. The yakuzen curry udon was also good, but I prefer my Japanese curry a bit sweet and this leaned more in the salty-savory lane. The noodles also weren't as al dente as I expected after my salmon udon, but maybe that was a byproduct of getting delivery and needing to reheat this dish with everything together.
I would give this spot a 3.5 stars. We arrived on a weekend afternoon and the place was quite empty except for another table. They're known for their udon so we tried two udon dishes. One Niku udon which comes with broth, and the other is mentaiko udon which is warm but no broth. Service was okay but didn't stand out to me. They didn't spot by and check on us or refill our waters. I liked how they served water with lemon. I think this price was quite pricey as most of the udon dishes were about $25 and upwards. Their ramen dishes are a little cheaper at $20 upwards. I do think the portion size was good but should be expected as they're charging an hefty price. The Niku udon was okay, nothing spectacular but was decent. Again, nothing really stood out to me. There was a good amount of fatty beef, an onsen egg, and green onions. The mentaiko udon was tangy and sour. There wasn't much of a mentaiko flavor. It also had the same fatty beef. Again, was just okay and in fact, I preferred the Niku udon more. Overall: It's decent udon but nothing amazing and felt quite pricy for what it is. There are other restaurants that make their noodles in house and not charging these prices.
Made reservations here before heading to Barclays, and I'm so glad I found this place! We started with the Karaage fried chicken and cheeseburger gyoza.. absolutely delicious! For drinks, we tried the rose sparkling water, which honestly tasted just like a rose smells like lol hard to explain, but so good! Definitely a must try. We also had the Takara Okinawa, which was not only stunning but also super fruity and refreshing. For entrees, my boyfriend had the Tori Karaage Don and loved it, while I ordered the Volcano Miso Ramen.. the broth was incredible, the pork and noodles were amazing as well . Everything we tried was delicious. I'll definitely be coming back!
I love udon and was excited to check this place out, but left feeling fairly underwhelmed. It's not that the food is bad, it's perfectly nice and the ingredients are fresh. I got to try the tempura udon which came out looking very beautiful -- two pieces of shrimp and a buncha vegetables plus this big ol bowl of udon with fresh minced ginger and other spices. But flavor wise it didn't stand out particularly to me. Certainly a step above your average Japanese spot but for its wildly inflated price (on one hand, I get it, if Ramen places can get away with prices like this why not udon. But on the other hand, ouch) I'm not sure it lives up to it. My friend got the curry udon which we agreed was nice but nothing to write home about. I want this place to succeed because I love Udon and it was a perfectly nice experience, but it'll be a while before I go back.
I love the touch of the small fresh cut flowers on my table and the wasabi sabi aesthetic of the bowls and cups. The sencha was delicious. The beef sukiyaki udon was very savory and fulfilling. Curry udon was good but my wife said she wished the meat slices were bigger instead of tiny cut pieces. read more

The service is amazing and Annie took great care of us! The ambiance is also very pretty and aesthetically pleasing, so the dining experience was quite pleasant. The appetizers we ordered (kaarage, cheese burger gyoza, takoyaki, and udon cracker with salmon tartar) were all pretty flavorful, for our favorite was the salmon tartar. My only issue is that the amount of salmon were on the lesser side, which meant the bite didn't really capture as much of its flavor as it could have; adding just a bit more per bite would definitely enhance the dish and make it more worth the price. The hojicha latte was pretty and on the lighter side of sweetness, for they use brown sugar to sweeten it. It was good, but charging 9 dollars for it is quite high. The entrees were a mixed bag for us. My favorites were: The hot ebi tempura udon, in which the tempuras were perfectly fried and crispy! I think I would've preferred it cold next time around though, but that's my personal opinion. The curry katsu don, which had a strong intense curry and a perfectly cooked onsen egg to pair and enrich the curry! The cuts of pork had less fat on the end, which some people might prefer, but in traditional Japanese pork katsu, it's usually a bit larger to make sure the bites aren't as dry. But one again, just my personal preference! Now the ones that were a miss for me were: The cream mentaiko udon, which wasn't creamy at all. It was on the sweeter end but I would say its sweetness overwhelmed its creamy and savoriness. This was unfortunate, but it seems like many diners also have a similar experience, so I hope the chefs would work on tailoring it to make it more creamy and savory rather than sweet! The sukiyaki udon, which barely came with any broth and tasted extremely sweet as well. Definitely not your traditional style of sukiyaki, which was disappointing for us because we love sukiyaki. Would be amazing to incorporate more authenticity to this dish, for I'm sure it could be so much more amazing! The steak udon was also just mediocre. The cuts of steak were all overcooked and the flavor was lacking, where it was just mildly sweet and savory. The flavor profile could be reworked and it can be helpful to ask how diners would like their steak cooked! The price is also a bit high for its size and quality, but I think if they improve the quality of the dish then it might just be more worth it. Most of the items were overpriced, even their drinks. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience and I believe the issues I've highlighted can be easily fixed and tailored. Adjusting the price and quality can promote the longevity of this up and coming Japanese restaurant, for Muteki Udon already nailed down beautiful interior aesthetics and great service! This is my second time here and it was just as great as the first time. This time around I came for dinner and it wasn't too busy until we were about to leave. The restaurant still looks as clean as opening and the staff were attentive and great. I wasn't able to each much on the menu because of my allergies but the staff was able to make recommendations for me based on my allergies. I had the dish that's kinda similar to a poke bowl. I've had bad experiences with poke bowls in the past but this one was delicious! I wanted another. I definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more
I like the ambiance here, they go all out (with the Tori-style gates, decorations, bamboo, even the Japanese background music) to make you feel like you're actually in Japan. I tried the Shiranui citrus juice, which was more tart and less sweet than I expected (and compared to regular orange juice); as a fan of sour things though, I was perfectly fine with that. Things are on the pricier side here; that being said, I appreciate that the portion sizes were big enough for me to get another meal out of it. I tried the Niki udon; noodles themselves did not stand out to me that much (it's pretty typical udon) but I thought the broth was a great blend of savory with a touch of sweetness (it actually went really well with the juice), the egg was perfectly poached, and meat was seasoned well. I got the matcha yuzu ade, fried tako karaage, Udon cracker with salmon tartare, peperoncino edamame, salmon ikura udon, Salmon Don and Mentaiko Cream udon. My fav was the salmon ikura don. The udon crackers were super interesting and they also have matcha udon you don't really taste the matcha but I think it's more so for the color. The mentaiko udon needs more roe because it's a bit too sour and overpowers the mentaiko flavor. I loved the matcha yuzu ade. read more

Are you craving udon? Look no further! When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted immediately. It is recommended to make a reservation as most of the tables are reserved. They do have some tables available for walk-ins, but they are limited. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere with traditional Japanese decor. I found the bathroom sink to be particularly unique. Everything on the menu sounded great, so we decided to order the Udon Cracker with Salmon Tartare, Beef Sukiyaki Udon and Salmon Ikura Udon. When ordering the udon, you can request the firmness of the noodles, whether you choose hot or cold udon. When the food arrived, the first thing that caught our eye was the beautifully designed dishes. The hand made dishes are presented at the bar. The presentation of the food was equally impressive. The Udon cracker with salmon tartare was interesting. It featured crisp green udon crackers topped with salmon sashimi, nori, wasabi furikake, ikura, scallions, spicy mayo, and Tosaka seaweed, served with ponzu sauce on the size. I never tried udon crackers before, and they were delicious. Both the Beef Sukiyaki Udon (Hot) and the Salmon Ikura Udon (Cold) were exceptionally tasty. Overall, the food and service were great, and I would recommend coming here if you are craving udon. read more

This place is my go to when I don't know what to eat around atlantic. I personally love the tempura soup so much, it has a strong daikon flavor in the broth and ground daikon on top when it's served. If you're a fan of daikon flavor in fish broth, you should order it. The cold udon is really nice too, it has a really nice balance of the food flavor and the truffle oil. read more

Definitely a place to check out. I discovered it while passing by soon after it opened in the spring. It's a very cozy place and decorated very nicely. You have a lot of your usual appetizers / main noodle dishes and they put an extra step to give the food an extra burst of flavor. and the staff was very kind and receptive to feedback. I went back a few months later with a friend who also enjoyed it. You will not go hungry eating here. read more

Udon was great - I got the tempura udon and it was fantastic - the broccolini and enoki tempura were a surprise. What kind of beef is used for the Sukiyaki Don and is it extremely fatty?
We used marinated and thinly sliced beef brisket, While it does have some fat for flavor and tenderness, it is not extremely fatty.
