Crispy Lamb Chops: these were kinda lamb strips instead (but with bone)? Doesn't matter as these were delicious. Crispy, the meat was moist, so so soft, and fatty. Couldn't stop eating. 10/10 coming back for this alone Mala Pot: ordered two choices for meat - fatty beef and intestines - and wow, they were so generous with the fatty beef! Decent food with great lunch special deals. Went on a weekend for lunch and the place was not too busy. Ordered the lunch special with the signature Lanzhou beef noodles. The lunch special came with a fried egg for the soup noodle, a burger (went with the cumin lamb burger) and a soda for $15. Also ordered the Taiwanese sausage, an order of lamb skewers and a side of spicy curly fries. The beef noodles were really good. The burger was meh and the skewers were good. Dun Huang is a good stop if you want a flavorful and rich bowl of noodles. There is complementary hot water with refills perfect for the upcoming chilly autumn season and the restaurant has open, comfortable seating with warm lighting that makes you wanna stay and chat. Despite not trying this location until much later than anticipated, my sister and I love it. The food is good and the staff is really nice. The guy with glasses is especially nice. My daughter is a super picky eater and she loves the noodles, fish tofu skewers and beef skewers here. Even my husband (who is just as picky) likes the noodles. Every time I have their soup noodles, I finish the broth, every last drop. The restaurant itself does not seem to ever be full though so it becomes a very nice and quiet space for us to dine-in at. This freezing cold weather got me craving a hot bowl of braised beef noodles and I knew just the place that would hit the spot. Dun Huang is always my go-to when I'm craving beef noodle soup! I ordered the Soy & Wine-Braised Beef Noodle and it was good but the beef felt a bit tougher this time around. The spicy chili oil at the table is always there asking me why I don't use it. But every time I use it, I regret it because my nose is so sensitive to spice for no good reason. I need to remind myself to chill on that chili oil next time, haha. We also ordered a Zha Jiang noodles to share and I'm kind of sad we did. I wasn't that impressed because it was overpowered by the saltiness of the soybean paste and ground pork mixture. I felt like the sauce did not have any dimension and the only saving grace was the chili oil at the table. It did me good for this dish but I wouldn't order the Zha Jiang noodles again. Overall, my more recent experience with Dun Huang was not ideal, but that's not to say it wasn't good. I'll still be back for the braised beef noodles and am down to try their other dishes! read more

I got delivery from here a few times and dined in once. Quality is same for either. I do like the ambiance of the restaurant though. It's pretty quiet with a charming modern decor. The food reminds me of Xian's but "cleaner" and "healthier." I always get their broth noodles and sometimes the pita burgers but the latter is not as rich as Xian's. I've tried their zhajiang noodles but it's just alright; the Shanghai restaurant I frequent in Chinatown makes a really delicious version so that's my standard. The eggplant salad and skewered tofu are pretty good but pricey so Ive tried to recreate them at home lol. The eggplant salad is like braised eggplants coated in a savory sauce. I had this bookmarked for a while since passing by. The interior was bright with clean and good size tables of 2 and 4. The menu was a hard choice since a lot of items really caught my attention. I got the beef noodle soup, I feel like they're known for this, but didn't find it the best as the beef was too thin and the broth lacks flavor. The noodles were also didn't have much chew to it. The popcorn chicken was tasty and doesn't have as much 5 spice as some places and it was so fresh. The soup dumplings are absolutely thumbs down; it was left out for a while, hence the dried up skin. My soup dumpling didn't have any soup, also the meat wasn't great. My friend said the mala noodle soup wasn't very flavorful. The star of the show was definitely the chicken and lamb skewers, I usually get it from Flushing, Queens, but I don't need to anymore. It was delicious and will absolutely go back for it. Dun Huang's newest location in Brooklyn is on a rather quiet stretch of 20th Av in Bensonhurst. I have previously dined at their other locations and this new one is pretty standard. We ordered the C6 mung bean noodles ($6.95), N1 signature Lanzhou beef noodles ($8.50), N2 non-spicy Lanzhou beef noodles ($8.50), and a plate of lamb skewers ($9.95). While the noodle soups were great, I thought the appetizers were quite weak in terms of execution. The mung bean noodles were slippery and had a generous amount of chili oil, but the noodles had an overly firm texture with no bounce. Came here on a Sunday evening and we were seated straight away with no reservation! I usually order takeout or delivery but I would say the noodles here definitely taste the best when it's served hot and fresh! Dun Huang has a pretty extensive menu with spicy and non spicy options. You can also ask them to make any spicy dishes more mild. Out of all the dishes we got, my favorites were the eggplant salad which was the perfect appetizer to start off the meal. I also highly recommend the hand pulled noodles and their cumin lamb burger both of which are super flavorful. Not sure if this is limited time but we saw a combo special where you get a signature beef noodle with egg + burger and soda all for only $13.99 which is such a great deal. This Dun Huang location has much better business than the 8 Ave Sunset Park location, it seems. Came here for dinner. Good amount of customers during early dinner rush. Only two waiters working but I thought the service was pretty good. They were very accommodating, especially with a baby at the table. Ordered the beef noodle combo that comes with a lamb burger and soda for $15. Pretty good deal. I also had the spicy noodle with pig intestines. The broth was good but it was the pig intestines that had the wow factor. At first bite, I was surprised -- in a good way -- they fried or pan seared the pig intestines after braising it, giving that smoky, crispy taste. Usually when I order pig intestine noodles in other restaurants, they simply just braise it and add to the bowl. But the flavor of the pig intestines here definitely make this bowl of noodles stand out. The lamb burger is always good, but having it freshly made instead of as takeout definitely make it tastier. Then, I saw a fellow Yelp friend's photos of their Flushing location and knew I just couldn't put it off any longer. But of course, I cheated and went to their 20th Ave, Brooklyn location instead :D * Lanzhou Beef Noodle Combo 兰州牛肉面套餐 $13.99 (signature beef noodles + egg + burger + soda) Dun Huang has two amazing combos, one with their signature beef noodles for $13.99 and the other with their soy & wine-braised beef noodles for $15.99, and both are great options especially if you want to sample the lot. - Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodle 传统兰州牛肉面 We opted for their Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodle, and although it's advertised with a chili pepper sign and comes with their house-special chili oil, it wasn't all that spicy. The noodles were chewy and bouncy, the broth was mild and lightly flavored, and the beef and radish were surprisingly tasty. - Stewed Pork Burger 猪肉夹馍 * Spicy Cumin Lamb Burger 羊肉夹馍 $4.95 All I can say is this was a beautiful mistake. The server taking our order asked if we wanted pork or lamb, and I answered pork, although I was incredibly confused since I thought she was talking about the noodles. I even asked her, "Isn't it beef?" It wasn't until after that I realized she was referring to the burger and at that point, I was like "sh*t" since my sister and I both wanted to try their Spicy Cumin Lamb Burger. I gave this place two chances, and sadly, both times were pretty underwhelming. The first time, I did takeout and tried the braised pork rib noodles. They were just okay -- nothing special. Honestly, the hand-pulled noodle on 18th Ave in Brooklyn was better. The only thing that stood out was the noodle texture -- chewy and bouncy, which made me think they were hand-pulled. But the flavor overall just didn't hit. Hoping it would be better in person, I came back to dine in. We ordered: two of their signature beef noodles, both types of soup dumplings, and the Dunhuang cold noodles. Unfortunately, everything kind of missed the mark. The signature beef noodles tasted mostly like cilantro, with a lot of chili oil but surprisingly bland broth. The soup was so watered down that the noodles didn't absorb any flavor, and the beef was bland as well. The Dunhuang cold noodles were just oily. I didn't get much of the advertised peanut sauce, mostly cucumber flavor and a heavy amount of oil. So much oil that I found myself needing to wipe my mouth after nearly every bite. Both soup dumplings were sad -- over-steamed to the point where they completely fell apart when picked up. So I couldn't even taste the soup. Just go somewhere else for soup dumplings. Service-wise, I don't expect perfection, but the pacing was rough. Our food came out super slow-- we had to wait about 10 minutes between each dish. They actually forgot we ordered two of the signature noodles until we asked about it, which just added to the long wait. But after trying this place twice, I think I'm good. Looove this place! I always come here to get the combo deal for $20 after tip and tax per person. It comes with a bowl of noodles (I get the extra wide noodles), a burger and soda. I think it's time to update this review especially after I've been to many new Chinese fast casuals in the area. Relatively speaking, this one is different and better than the rest (not perfect ofc). Maybe because they're on 85st instead of 86st, they're never packed. I've never seen them more than half full. I appreciate that as a customer but also worry about their business. Seats by the window are often chilly. I always order the beef sirloin noodle. My parents have tried other things but none appeal to me. At $10 a noodle, it's so much cheaper than the other options nearby which are like $12-$15. I like the texture of their hand pulled noodles more than all the rice noodles around. The only "problem" is how their hand pulled noodles are very long and tangled. It takes some effort to pull a clean noodle. Their broth quality is not consistent. The flavor is generally the same but sometimes it's strong or weaker. The temperature is usually not piping hot enough for my mom but I think it's tolerable. The meat tastes aight with some pieces tougher than others. We like asking for extra cilantro and they legitimately give a lot. If you pay with cash, $30 gets you a $3 coupon to use next time. Two big flaws here. One is how the blast Chinese autotuned music that's so old school. I disagree with their boss/manager's music taste here. It really does bother me especially on days I'm not feeling well to start with. The other flaw is the Mandarin speaking staff. Like what I said, I have a language barrier and I can't help it that affects my eating experience. Bensonhurst still relatively has more Cantonese speakers (perhaps maybe not anymore idk). read more

Located on an inconspicuous block right off of 86th street (we initially walked right past it), Dun Huang is serving up some mean hand pulled noodle dishes. They're still in their soft opening phase but I honestly couldn't tell because the waitresses that served us were so skilled and attentive and super friendly. One of them saw that we were having trouble breaking up the noodles and immediately provided us a pair of scissors! Tea was served promptly upon getting seated and dishes came out in a jiffy after ordering. We tried: - N3 Soy and wine braised beef noodles: Our favorite dish. The beef was tender, the noodles were springy, and the broth was flavorful. I saw a lot of reviews bashing on the lukewarm temperature of the broth but I personally didn't mind. I mean do you really want to be burning your tongue on boiling broth?? Especially if you're already starving and hangry?? - N5 Zha jiang noodles: The consistency of the sauce and the noodles is spot on but I found the flavor of the sauce too bland. - N8 Dunhuang cold noodles: Yum! Very flavorful! Loved the spiciness of the chili oil and peppercorns and subtle hint of peanut sauce. - C7 Chicken salad- Cold chicken in a chili oil, peanut and cilantro sauce. Would've preferred to have the chicken cut in thicker slices but other than that, no complaints. I feel like this restaurant is ready to officially open. Great to have a Northwestern Chinese hand-pulled noodle spot in the area. I've visited their other locations as well and all the menus are quite similar, if not, the same. The hand-pulled noodles are really good, has the right texture and consistency. I love the option of the different sizes they offer because it really does matters to all the noodle lovers out there. This particular location is fairly new, spot is bright, clean and spacious. Service is very nonchalant and could be more attentive at times. More effective to wave them down to get what you need. My go to is always the non spicy Lanzhou noodle. I was so hyped to see Dun Huang pop up in this neighborhood. I usually loveee the one in Sunset Park. This one feels small, but they fit a lot of seating into the open concept dining area. The place is clean and cozy. I got my regular Beef Skewers which did not disappoint. It's well-seasoned and with the right cuts of beef that makes it juicy. The Cucumber Salad is a must get. It's a refreshing appetizer and dip it in their chili oil, it's so delightful. Their chili oil is crack. For someone like me who tolerates mild spice, this is my favorite chili oil of all. We also got the Pan Fried Chicken Noodles, which was tasty, but they didn't give us Thick Noodles as it should have had. I'm going to be coming back to try the noodle soup and other skewers. Second day since it opened we decided to drop by and see if it's similar to the 8th ave location. Ordered their signature Lan zhou mein , pork burger; and eggplant salad. The pork burger bun is not crispy and the pork lacks flavor. This one I would skip. Eggplant salad was delicious, especially the sauce. The signature Lan zhou mein was disappointing since the soup was not hot, and there were really only 4 ingredients : radish , beef, noodle, cilantro . It lacked other ingredients and wished they would put possibly bok Choy or something else in there. Came here with my mom and we both loved the dishes we tried!! We ordered the eggplant appetizer and pork intestine skewers to share and each got a bowl of their signature beef noodles. The spicy version comes with some chili oil but if you dine in, they also have chili oil and vinegar on the table that you can add yourself! We were so surprised for the quality of the noodles, it's a huge bowl for less than $10 and had so many different toppings including beef slices and radish. The eggplant was amazing as well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce it came with was garlicky and had so much flavor.
