Good local coffee. At one point they used Loveless Coffee but I'm not sure what they use now for beans. The one I had was good, however, the to-go cups are horrible. They spill all over the place every time and because of that, I always burn my hand. They don't have sleeves either because I think the cups are too small. The customer service could be better as it always seems like to-go orders are an inconvenience over dining in customers. Either way, the location is convenient if you need a coffee shop in Greenpoint if the neighboring shops are full. They do have a full menu for brunch, lunch, and dinner service. The prices match the location and the food looks good as there are always locals dining outside with their families and dogs. The space is spacious as well. I suggested to the waiter that we start the order early so the kitchen isn't waiting on us, but he insisted it was best for the kitchen to have the order in one go. As a result, we didn't start ordering food until much later when our whole party arrived. I was completely okay with this, but our waiter suddenly became short and upset with us. I understand the frustration, but the service kinda brought down our whole mood throughout the night. Despite that, the food was pretty good! Our party enjoyed everything that was ordered. The service also started out good, hence the three stars. Overall, I would not recommend for large parties, but a smaller party might get better service. read more

The chicken felt like it was melting in my mouth (which is hard to achieve) and the hanger steak was the same. We sat at the bar, and timing between drinks and food was also satisfactory. What brings the place down to a 4 for me is service. It wasn't memorable. The restaurant space is small and intimate, especially if you're at the bar (which is where we sat) and they weren't really personable. Strictly business. Which is fine if that's your cup of tea but, I personally love interacting with staff and getting to know them, and there was really no room for that. Would not recommend for outdoor seating/summer. I usually love this place. I made a reservation for my mother's birthday and asked for outdoor seating because we will have our dog. We show up and there's 6 open tables outside sitting in the beating sun. There was absolutely no way any of us could have sat outside in the sun and eaten. The one umbrella they had they told us we could not open because it was broken and a hazard. (After we had already opened it and it was tilted but fine) so they took the umbrella back. The hostess then told me that if we waited THIRTY minutes in the sun then maybe her manager could come and fix it. This is absolutely unacceptable. They knew we were coming and we made a reservation. I can't imagine asking people to sit in the beating sun for 30 mins so they could MAYBE fix the issue. read more

I'm giving it three stars for the food and ambiance, but where things fall short for me, as others have mentioned, is the service. The first time I visited, I ordered the breakfast burrito without meat. The table next to me ordered the same. The order took longer than expected, which I always find surprising for a standard vegetarian request, and the first bite had bacon. I'm not an ethical or religious vegetarian, so I wasn't personally upset, but I felt awful for the guy next to me who mentioned he was Muslim. During my second visit, the service missed the mark again. The waiter made no eye contact, didn't try to engage, and never checked in. I ordered the shakshuka, which was very good and a great portion, but by the end of the meal I was turned off by the service enough that I decided to get coffee and dessert at Maman down the street. read more

Staff is friendly and quick to greet guests and we were pleasantly surprised to see the inside of the restaurant relatively quiet on a Sunday evening. Sereneco is always crowded when we walk by, but we recently went early on a Saturday and was able to get a table outside. The menu includes a variety of brunchy dishes to please everyone. We ordered the grilled vegetable sandwich which included eggplant and red peppers on focaccia. Also got the short rib sandwich stuffed with caramelized onions on sourdough. Plus a side of fries! I visited this location about three days ago with my two children and decided to return for Saturday brunch with my family. Upon arrival, I was told that since I didn't have a reservation, the only seating available was outside. I said "no problem" and stepped outside, expecting the host to guide us to a table. However, no one followed. I walked back inside to ask the male host for assistance, but he was already helping someone who came in after me. He asked me to wait a moment, which I agreed to. As I waited, he walked outside, and when I followed, he let the door shut in my face rather than holding it open. This felt dismissive and unwelcoming. I was genuinely looking forward to enjoying a meal here with my family, but the initial experience of being received and welcomed is just as important as the food itself. Because of the lack of courtesy and attentiveness, we chose to leave. Sadly, this is the only reason I feel compelled to give this place a low rating. read more

An even 3 stars - I was a little disappointed with the limited menu as well as the complete lack of air conditioning on a hot, humid summer day. This made our dining experience all the more uncomfortable unfortunately. The atmosphere and establishment always looked so classy and chic from the outside looking in every time we'd pass by, but I don't see us visiting again sadly. To stay health conscious, my boyfriend and I ordered a yogurt parfait and shakshuka. We've had better shakshuka at Shuka; the yogurt parfait was pretty good, but not worth the price tag. They partner with the local coffee roaster Paloma. The latte and drip coffee both taste yummy! They may have toasted tortilla wrap of burrito, which I enjoyed a lot and overall it's not heavy. The eggs somehow were overcooked in Shakshouka and it took about 25 minutes for our food items to be served, which was a little bit disappointing. The overall ambiance is great, but I have to knock a point off for not having gluten free bread. There are very limited gluten free options on the menu & with it being very common for restaurants to have gluten free substitutes for pizza, pasta, sandwiches, etc. these days, it was quite disappointing for my friend when she realized she wouldn't be able to try any of the popular items on the menu.
