We stumbled upon this jazz bar after going to L'industrie and it was about a 3 min walk. The vibes were amazing and they were able to seat us by the stage. I will say that it was quite loud so if you're there to catch up with friends it might be hard to hear. The drinks were pretty good! This is a low key jazz and supper club that I've been wanting to visit for quite some time. They have various seatings throughout the evening. On a Saturday night, I saw options for 5, 7:30, 8, and 10pm. You can buy tickets for the show via their website, which directs you to Eventbrite. The ones I saw ranged from $12-18 per person. They also have a $35 food and drink minimum. They have a full cocktail, mocktail, and food menu but seemed to be out of a few items. I got the berkeley mocktail. It was a generous pour and served in a tall glass. It was refreshingly tangy and lightly fruity. My husband enjoyed the brown derby. We shared the roasted cauliflower. The cauliflower were very tender and well seasoned and the accompanying tahini offered nice flavor, without overwhelming the dish too much. For my main, I had the tagliatelle. The pasta was firm and tossed with sun dried tomatoes and pesto. It was flavorful and I had enough for leftovers. We sat for the 8pm show, which was in the cellar. The vibe of the space was dark and intimate. Great for date night. You felt as if you were in the underbelly of a ship. Seats were first come, first served. Most of the tables were two seaters, but they pushed a few together and had one larger table for groups of four or five. The musicians played at the front, but were not on a raised stage or platform, so they might have been tough to see depending on where you were seated. We enjoyed Dion Berardo. He and his pianist seemed deeply passionate and fond of their craft and their energy, enthusiasm and creative improvisation shined throughout the show. The set was 2.5 hours and they took two breaks. You could speak over the music, but conversations were pretty quiet. It was a lovely evening and I'd definitely recommend for a night out off the beaten path. read more

If there is one place you take visitors to Williamsburg, this should be it. In my first month in the city, I was walking down Grand Street and was pulled in by the sound of jazz. I felt like I was stepping out of time and the decor was a huge part of that. The sound of the music paired with the impeccable design (from the lights to the seating) make for such a beautiful atmosphere. Any and all generations can appreciate this place, even if you don't have personal nostalgia for the era it's inspired by. We ended up asking for one more piece of bread for one dish since they only gave us 3 pieces so they ended up bringing out like 10 pieces of bread & charging us for it. Drinks were good. Music wasn't overpowering so I could still have a conversation. I'd still say this place is a bit overpriced given you already pay an additional fee for the concert but I'd still bring someone back here because I love the jazz club vibes & the atmosphere. My favorite part of the St Mazie experience are the live bands, which transform the atmosphere. You can almost forget what decade you're in while keeping the best parts of 1920s nostalgia. None of their cocktails really spoke to me, so I opted for carafes of wine, which went perfectly with the vintage ambiance. Our server's warmth matched the intimate setting. Yay! So glad I finally got to check out this place, it's been on my bucketlist for awhile now. The first time I tried to go, it was with my partner and unfortunately the whole place was booked for the night (what a flex honestly). If you go on a monday night, it's not too busy which was nice cause you're able to hear each other talk. The live music was great and the food and drinks were delish. Highly recommend the oysters, charcuterie and Midnight special cocktail. I'm glad my partner reserved us a table because honestly, I find the reservation process so friggin confusing. I stopped by for a round of drinks on a Thursday night. Surprisingly this quaint Parisian spot was packed to the brim maybe 95% capacity for a relatively large venue. This romantic dim light bar is a great date night spot with a live band playing to add to the charm. Service was friendly and attentive and we ordered the Venice - which had tequila watermelon Campari orange and lime - I think this was a bit too tart for my liking which was surprising since I really enjoy watermelon and tequila together but I think the Campari overpowered it. We also got the hey honey highball which was a generous glass and my companion enjoyed it (no dark liquor for me please). The food menu looked intriguing but we were already full from dinner. I would definitely come back here to try a new drink and some bites next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Found out via Eventbrite that this cool restaurant hosts jazz dinners via their Supperclub! I immediately purchased tickets, which gets you a table amongst at their downstairs speakeasy-vibed room. The nights entertainment was swing and gypsy jazz, one of my favorite genres. They played some incredible originals, as well as favorites from renowned guitarist, Django Reinhardt. For dinner I ordered the lemon potatoes to start. They were crispy and rather delicious. I could start every day with a bowl of those, they were that good, For my entree I ordered the fettuccine. It was served with a slow roasted, tomato sauce, basil pesto, fresh parmesan and bread crumbs. I washed it all down with both a non-alcoholic ginger beer and also a non-alcoholic root beer... but don't worry, I wasn't driving =) I can't wait to come back - I think next time I'll grab a seat upstairs to try out a different experience. read more

So that sucked. The night started with our server asking us if we wanted anything to drink, to which we obviously obliged. What followed was 50 minutes of complete isolation, despite multiple instances of completed eye contact & actively leaning back in our chair to garner some sort of attention. Twisting the knife even further, we wanted to order food & our server, a curly haired woman, came back no more than 3 minutes after the kitchen closed. I work in this industry, so I'd like to think it wasn't personal, yet multiple people ordered their food & paid by the time we had been checked upon. This was my first time at St. Mazie's, and unfortunately, it left a really bad impression. My date and I stayed at the bar longer than expected, ordered about $100 worth of drinks and snacks, and tipped 20%. After we paid, the bartender came over and said--"What makes you think it's OK to sit here for so many hours when the bar is busy, only order $100, and then tip less than 20%?" That was completely false--we did tip 20%. But instead of clarifying or asking us to wrap up earlier (which we would've totally understood), he just kept going--passive-aggressively implying we were bad customers and cost him money. What made it worse is my date has been a longtime regular--he's celebrated birthdays and New Year's here and spent a lot. But the way we were treated made us both feel really unwelcome. If overstaying was a problem, it should have been addressed respectfully during the night--not after we'd paid and tipped. Felt like a shakedown. Really disappointing first experience and honestly my worst customer experience at a restaurant or bar in my life. read more

The dozen oysters they served me ($2 each seems to be the happy hour going rate these days; I remember when places had dollar oyster deals) were quite small and disappointing. I understand the oyster special is supposed to be a loss leader to get people in the door to buy higher margin drinks and other items, but it should be done better than this. I mentioned this to the bartender but got no contrition/empathy. He was like, "well, we can't control what we get." I get that, but at least acknowledge how sub-optimal this is. They took a long time to come out too, and I was one of only two parties seated in the entire restaurant at the time. Anyone looking for a good oyster happy hour in W'burg since Maison Premiere isn't doing it anymore, I'm telling you, be forewarned of this place. We had reservations for 7:30pm on a Saturday evening in the downstairs cellar and were quickly seated after checking in. Although the music/bands are different upstairs versus downstairs, I would recommend the downstairs cellar because it had more of a chill and romantic vibe. We ordered shishito peppers for the table. It was good, but nothing to write home about. I had Coq Au Vin as my main dish, which is braised chicken. It came with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and onions. The potatoes were a bit cold, but everything else was well heated and tasty. The chicken skin had the perfect crisp and overall the dish was very filling. Others at my table had the famous burger with a black bean patty and really enjoyed it. The jazz band started playing around 8pm and they were wonderful! Unfortunately, there were a couple of downsides. We waited a very long time for every drink/dish we ordered and the waitress seemed upset, impatient and lacked attentiveness. She did not make it a great experience. Still had a good time overall because of the company and would go back! read more

Recently went to NYC for a quick trip and this review is long overdue. St. Mazie was a great find in Brooklyn that made our trip even better. The live jazz music by different bands each night and the friendly bartenders were a definite highlight. One of the bartenders even remembered us from a previous night (since we went a total of two times). He greeted us with such welcome and he checked in on us (even giving us extra bread for our mussels without a lot of fuss). The bartender made us feel taken cared of throughout both night, which pushed my initial 4 star rating to 5 stars. As for the food, it was solid and cooked well. We are the Mussels (made with coconut, parsley, curry, lemongrass) and the burrata salad (with balsamic, tomatoes, pistachios). I would recommend the burrata salad if I had to choose one dish, mainly because the burrata was soft and creamy with the toasted bread. If I'm ever in Brooklyn again, I'd definitely come back. My recommendation is come early enough to get yourself a good spot at the bar to listen to live music and enjoy the electric atmosphere. read more

Upon arriving the hostess told us that our reservation was a bar reservation despite our confirmation stating otherwise. Clearly they didnt plan accordingly and oversat the earlier tables. Not wanting to make a big deal we asked if we could sit on a table in the bar area rather than the bar stools. She sat us by the window which at first we thought was perfect as the jazz wasnt as loud as in the dining room and we could have a proper conversation... that was until we realized we were sat in the forgotten corner. Waiter: The waiter disappeared for 40+ minutes after bringing us our sparking water. My 8pm alarm goes off for my antibiotics rushing us even more to order as it had to be taken on a full stomach. We finally flag another waiter down and place our order. We saw our waiter one more time after our food was already brought out and when he brought out the bill. Our food: We ordered manchego cheese, cured sausage, steamed artichoke, mussels and coq au vin all to share. The food arrives 30 minutes of placing the order- an hour from sitting down. If it wasn't for my urgency to take the medication, we would've left and ate elsewhere. Although im glad we didnt as the food was amazing. They brought the cheese and sausage with the artichoke and half plates were hanging off the table- super uncomfortable. whenever we picked at any of the plates we had to hold them in fear of it tipping over and falling. Highly recommend getting the cheese and cured sausage- they really complement each other. The mussels came in a nice coconut curry that was unique- a must try. the coq au vin was crispy on the outside and juicy/ flavorful on the inside. Perfect dish for a cold night!! we really enjoyed the bacon pieces in the dish. Ambiance: Romantic and perfect for date night. The live jazz band made the evening super intimate and cozy. They have a wine cellar in the basement which ill like to come back for. The ceiling and lighting were cool and gave it personality. Looking for a last minute dinner spot with live jazz music, this place came up on my search bar. Wasn't sure if we could book a table a few hours before the 730pm event, I called and spoke to "Greta" who said there was a table in the cellar that would be available for us and upstairs too, just show up earlier and speak to the hostess that I spoke to greta and they should be able to accommodate. Showed up 15 minutes before the show started, the hostess wasn't very nice and said all shows were sold out even though I told her I spoke to Greta. She said we could go downstairs and look for Greta and see if there was a table available. When we went downstairs, we found Greta and she was super sweet and gave us a table right in front of the mini stage. The ambience was dark and cozy, very romantic. We ordered braised beef ribs, fingerlings and brussel sprouts with dessert of churros. Every single item was a hit. The beef ribs just fell apart and weren't dried or overcooked. Very flavorful in your mouth. Fingerlings were just salty enough and charred on the outside with the softness inside. Brussel sprouts had a hint of peanuts and sweet aioli. The churros were crunchy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. The chocolate dip was the cherry on top of the cake. Service was a bit slow as it took a bit to flag our waitress down to give our orders. The music was perfect, not too loud and they played oldies jazz with a country twist with the violin and guitar. This place is honestly a mess. Came in with a party of 6 for a 7:30 reservation and wasn't seated until 8:15. Then didn't get a server for 20 minutes and when our food finally came out they only brought out 2 meals at a time. The time difference between the first set of meals coming out versus the last meals was almost 45 minutes! The musicians, a guitar duo, were really talented and played for a couple of hours, creating the perfect ambience, in the dark cellar downstairs for dinner with great background music. It may get loud as some large groups try to speak over the music if you are unlucky. The drinks are decent, we tried the BROWN DERBY, JOSEPH MITCHELL, ZEBERINO, AND HANKY PANKY. I would not recommend the hanky panky if you dont really like fernet and bitter drinks, it was not really my cup of tea. For food we had DEVILED EGGS, ROASTED RED PEPPERS, GIGANTE BEENS for appetizers, which were good, in particular the eggs but they only come 3 halfs, peppers and beans come in a small plate. Then we had the ROASTER CAULIFLOWER, SEASONAL RISOTTO, and CHURROS WITH CHOCOLATE for dessert. I really liked the Risotto that that day was Porcini mushroom, very rich and flavorful, the rice grain was perfectly cooked. The cauliflower was delicious, roasted till its a bit crunchy outside and tender inside and with the tahini sauce made a perfect combination. The curros were the classic mexican style sugar-covered churros that you would get in NYC, 3 large churros for $12. I would come back, I definetely recommend the RISOTTO and the CAULIFLOWER.
