My first time here at this venue and they have more than 1 stage for more than 1 event going on…read more They got the main stage and black box with a waiting area with table games to kill time. I came here yesterday with my friends to go see MC Jin and it was a sold out venue. The main stage was pretty lit especially the lit up sign on stage. When MC Jin came on stage there was a huge standing ovation. I had a good time with his material and I admired his enthusiasm that did not let me down nor did I ever got bored. He kept the audience going on and alive. So I wish Second City had more food options because it just got 4 items for food. You got pickles, hummus, and fries for appetizers and only one entree on the menu, which is a burger with fries. That's not a lot of food options. My friends and I got fries and hummus to share. The portions were large for sharing. The hummus included pita bread, cucumbers, red bell peppers, and carrots. Pretty filling. Now with the drinks, Second City had a huge list. I ended up getting Learn Chinese cocktail, which is exclusively for the MC Jin venue. I was disappointed at the contents and how much was in my glass. They did not fill it up to the top. It was like 2/3s of the cocktail in the glass when they served it to me. I was so shocked at how little it was. It also did not get me hooked. It felt like nothing although it did taste fruity. I should have gotten a draft beer or something else instead.

Hard to believe I've never gone to this theater before; the other night I went to see "The Skinny"…read morewhich is basically a current-events talk show. This segment of the show dealt with the upcoming 9/11 anniversary and featured my friend Jon playing trombone dressed as Osama Bin Laden. (Here he is dressed as Darth Vader: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07IhWD2Lr2A) It is a small, intimate space arranged as an amphitheatre; I didn't always find it easy to hear, but I'm hard of hearing anyway. For years I've been an avid supporter of Off-off-off Broadway, and you get a lot of bang for your buck here: only $10, which in 1986 dollars translates into something like $5. (Conisdering that the beers at the bar upstairs cost easily twice what they cost then, you're getting a bargain!)

It hosts some of the Fringe Festival plays every year, and that is how I came to be in it. The stage isn't raised - it's just a floor - but the seating slopes, so that you get to see the stage perfectly no matter where you are. The last row is just as good as the first one. The sound is pretty good and relies mostly on acoustics because of the size of the place. I've seen actors there performing without any microphones. All this makes for a very personal, intimate experience.

Anyone seeking an alternative to House of Yes may find luck with Moonrise. Like so many Bushwick…read morevenues, Moonrise is a nondescript club with an ethereal vibe and aerial acrobatic dancers to match. I found myself here on a quiet Saturday night after having a meal at The Monkey King next door, and had a really fun time. One really refreshing thing about this spot is that the crowd is mostly poc, at least the night I visited. So many spaces feel pretty homogenous so it's nice to feel safe with my group of mostly poc friends when we go out. The music the DJ played was easy to dance to and our bartender churned out excellent drinks all night. I'm not sure how this spot would be on a busier night, and I haven't seen the cirque du soleil-like act that performs here on select nights-- but on the low key evening I visited I loved this spot that felt like a secret Narnia in Bushwick.

This is truly an immersive experience where there are not only performances but the bartenders are in character, the music matches the vibe. Honestly one of the COOLEST cocktail experiences I've ever experienced. I do think their after party dance vibe has potential to be improved, but it could just be the crowd I had. After you come in you get told your moon goddess (similarly assigned like zodiac signs so it's based on your birthdate). Then you get three gold tokens to give to the various goddess stations in exchange for a craft cocktail with fresh ingredients. Cheap liquor makes my nose run like an allergic reaction and there was NONE of that here which tells me the alcohol they're using was at least low in sulfates so THANk YOU for that During the whole night there are aerial and acrobatic performances. It's very reminiscent of a mini cirque du soleil but you're super close to the stages. Would 10000% recommend this experience and would go again. Parking: street, better to ride share since you get several drinks Seating: yes indoor tables and couches Wifi: no Payment; prepay online and possibly you can pay for more drinks there....? Vibe: immersive cocktail experience Dress code: business casual or classy party

I loved the cast and more importantly the plot of the play. Will not give it away but it was truly so enjoyable and touched on many good topics. Seating here is comfy, can't imagine that there is a bad seat in the house and the stage is big and theater is on the intimate side. Bathrooms were clean too. Didn't visit the concessions so can't speak on that.

I saw Eddie Izzard here last night…read more Yay!! Eddie!! He took us on a 2 hour rollercoaster of laughter including an encore. The show was a riot. The venue is smallish and we were up close and personal with him. Cake or Death? I wanna live 'til I die, no more, no less. What detracted from the experience was the seats. Boo!! Seats!! The theater itself is lovely, albeit in need of an update. Quite a lot of peeling paint and all that. The seats are. a. KILLER. Yes. Ass trauma. Sooo uncomfortable. I'd be hard pressed to return no matter who the headliner was (And I love Eddie Izzard).

In fact, the whole place can use a major renovation. That being said, it is still a comfortable and intimate venue to catch a show. Terrific ceiling and gorgeous chandelier. It had a great run, and the actors were all so talented. Their beautiful voices were simply a bonus. The intimate setting amplified the deliberate periods of silence throughout the show. There were moments when you didn't want to even breathe in fear of interrupting the show. It was that emotional at times. If I can expect this level of performance with other visits to The Roundabout Theater, then I will surely be back for future shows.
