Classes in Singing, Theater, Guitar, Musical Theater and Film and Movie-Making. Small classes with individualized attention in a cozy, professional and nurturing environment. " I am a parent of three children who have studied musical theater through Brooklyn Players, in both the summer and school year (after school) programs. Brooklyn Players is fantastic, and my kids have gained tremendously from attending. I am impressed with the way they have developed my children's skills to such a high level in a program which is truly fun and nurturing, and where teamwork aspects of theater are strongly emphasized. I have never before seen a performing program (for music or theater) where there is such a relaxed feeling but such amazingly professional results. I have one child who just started college but attended Brooklyn Summer Players every year from age 9 to 13, and I have one much younger child who recently completed his first year in the 4 week summer program. I find the staff very talented, and it has been fun to watch the kids grow and develop in the program. When my now college-age son applied to high school, he was admitted to some very selective programs (like the very small, highly esteemed theater program at Edward Murrow high school). It has been fun and impressive to see the Brooklyn Players graduates continue their successful efforts to perform in school and outside of school as well. Many students from Brooklyn Players end up with leading roles in high school productions, whether or not they choose to attend selective arts programs for high school. I am glad my sons learned so much from Brooklyn Players, but I think it is equally valuable that the program was really fun for them too. I am delighted my youngest is still in Brooklyn Players and continuing to enjoy and learn from it as his older brothers did. I highly recommend the summer program as well as the school year classes. We are fortunate to have such a great program in Park Slope.

The after-school classes are the perfect size; each student gets a lot of individual attention. The caliber of students is very high, yet there is an atmosphere of mutual support instead of competitiveness. When my daughter began voice classes with Corinne, she was not so confident in her abilities. I am almost more pleased with her increased confidence than I am with her technical skill, but she has Brooklyn Players to thank for both at this point. Sadly, we are leaving the area, so she can't do the summer show this year, but she has been accepted into a very selective summer theatre program in the area we are moving to. We have been so fortunate to have this amazing resource right here in the neighborhood; Brooklyn Players is a great choice for any kid with an interest in performing.

The only ticket that was $0 was for kids under 1 year old. My toddler was not. For the 3 of us it was $45 which I thought was a bit much. They also have annual memberships starting at $120. That may be something to consider if you plan to visit the museum multiple times. There was a Lunar New Year celebration at the museum today so we went to check it out. They had a museum wide lion dance parade as well as activities for the kids which included: Kung fu moves demo, ribbon dance workshop, calligraphy, and storytime with Author Michele Wong McSween of "Gordon and Li Li: Celebrate Chinese New Year. We also got to meet City Council member, Susan Zhang who had a booth there. Our little one enjoyed the lion dances and the exhibits as well as walking outside on the 2nd floor outdoor area. I'm looking forward to bringing her here again for other events. Things to consider - it did get a bit crowded because of the event and also the cafe that served food was alright. They ran out of some food items and the quantity of the food they were giving for the prices was not okay. I'll be bringing my own food for my toddler and us next time. I signed up for a 45 minute session, and my instructor, Mimi Hilarie cancelled on me the morning off. When I rescheduled, I walked into the school with the lights off behind the glass for check in and instead was surrounded by kids and teenagers running the place. With all respect to the teenagers and students holding down the fort, the experience is stressful and awful for a new student not knowing where to go. I was late to my lesson despite being there early because no room was listed in the confirmation email and there was no way of checking when you get there. I had to flag one of the student that was buzzing people in to help.

Their class pushed me to do things I was convinced I couldn't and allowed me to play. The instructors never make me feel incompetent because I am not strong enough, but rather give me the tools to become stronger and braver. Lava's classes have made me a better person and I love every floorboard, nail, mat, every piece of that studio. All the instructors are performers and they are beautiful to watch, so go see their shows as well, wherever you may find them. Worth every penny and every second I spend here.

I took the adult handstand class, it was amazing!…read moreIt was my first time attempting a handstand or anything near a handstand and although I wasn't very good and I wasn't able to do one on my own yet it helped me face my fear and become closer to doing one. I believe I was the only one in the class who had never done a handstand before and everyone in the class was so patient and welcoming I really felt so comfortable and eager to learn just from the people who surrounded me. I will definitely be coming back every week to keep on practicing. P.s Sarah the instructor was awsome!!! Very thorough and helpful she was also very sweet!
