It can get crowded as the night goes on but since we arrived at the time we did, there were seats at the bar. I feel sad writing this review because it is reminding me that we did not spend enough time at Mr. Melo. Someone in our party was antsy and wanted to go elsewhere so the good times were cut short. Perhaps it would've felt better if what we ran off to panned out, but it ended up being a dead end. All of this is to say that at the end of the night, I was already dreaming of returning to Mr. Melo. The cocktails are excellent, the music is spot on, and the vibes overall just make for a great time. A well-curated experience that had as planning our return before we even left. We came here at around 11pm on a Saturday night. I think it was closing at 1am, but the party was very much alive. It almost felt like there was a special event going on with how energetic and convivial the space felt, but I think the music, layout, and aesthetic definitely lend themselves to that vibe. Despite it being pretty busy, we were able to get a small table for our party of three and were served pretty quickly. Cocktails are absolutely the move here, though it will be hard to choose what to order here unless you are very discerning. Too many good options. The "Compost Cocktails" appealed to me most given that they seemed funkier than the others, featuring a range of familiar produce and condiment-type items that skew Mediterranean given the focus on the food menu here. To start, I got the Feta Brine Martini (greek feta, olives, white vermouth, Misguided vodka) with gin. I assumed I would need to order it as written but our server asked if I wanted vodka or gin which was a nice surprise, given my general aversion to vodka. The drink was outstanding and I could've easily stuck with it all night if I didn't want to sample more of the cocktail menu. A no-brainer for my dirty martini girlies. My second drink was extremely different in flavor profile but equally amazing. The Date Night (Redemption rye, brown butter, smoked dates, sherry) is an Old Fashioned variation that rich, smoky and sweet, impeccably balanced, and pretty much the ideal nightcap. No notes. A 5-star experience start to finish that will leave you buzzing in more ways than one. read more

Some of my favorite bars in Brooklyn would best be described as liminal spaces - Masquerade, Mood Ring, you get the genre. I had heard about this relative newcomer next to the BQE and was excited to add it to my roster. The vibe was a bit quiet on a Tuesday night, which is the best night to visit liminal spaces. I started with the feta cocktail which I expected to have a slight bit of brininess but the drink really did not let you forget that feta was on the ingredient list. I much preferred the rum based "Trinidad" cocktail which I ordered next. The house made chips and dips and "Greek fries" were solid accompaniments. I had a wonderful time at Mr Melo. I went on a weeknight for a late dinner with a friend and I will be back! When you walk in, there's a small front bar but when you walk past that it opens up into a vibey, cool seated bar area. The music was the perfect volume to still allow for easy conversation and the lighting was so perfect. Our server was so charming and really made us feel welcome (I wish I could remember her name!). The best thing about the service is that everyone we interacted with felt really genuine, not like they were putting on their customer service voices or whatever, which I really appreciate. I had their Feta Brine Martini which was strong but had a fun flavor profile. We also split the eggplant sando and the greek fries. This was the PERFECT amount of food for the two of us. This spot is a vibe! This was spot #2 of a great Friday night. You walk in, and it looks small, but then you go down a hallway, and it opens up, and you enter into the main event space. Cute bar area and round tables on the other side. There's a vip area in the back area near the dj. I really like the look! For a not so great Friday night weather, it was packed. However, they were slinging them drinks fast, so that's definitely an A in my book. The drink of the night for me was tamarind maté cooler. I used to come to this space when it was bar beau a few years ago so was excited when a new cocktail bar opened! I visited on a Sunday night and the cocktails were tasty, varied and complex and the staff was super friendly. I was also pumped the interior was mostly kept from the bar beau days, the bar interior is still special and well designed. Great ambiance with excellent cocktails. Their spin on a classic manhattan was tasty & I really enjoyed the baba rita an eggplant infused tequila cocktail! From the front it's unassuming but they open the door and you hear the music thumping. The back room has a number of tables in a booth like setting and an elevated area with additional seating and the DJ set up. We enjoyed a few rounds here and will be back. Walking in, you might think of it as a small bar. But in the back there is a slick-looking lounge area with a DJ. All in all, the vibes were a bit clubby but very relaxed. The drinks were also very interesting - I got a compost cocktail (the Citra Dacq), and it was delicious. My friend and I stopped right after dinner when there weren't as many people. I was with 2 friends and we ordered drinks at the bar. The female bartender with half sleeve tattoos took our order. Then 2 more friends joined us and we politely added 2 more drinks to our order. The bartender flipped out and become extremely rude. She demanded we ordered fast. We ordered as quickly as we could, we definitely weren't wasting her time and asking too many questions. Her attitude and behavior was over the top rude. She then demanded we put all of the drinks on one card. She yelled this demand at us. Her behavior was so unwarranted. Tbh, I think this place is better than Eavesdrop. Main reason is because there's space to actually sit with your friend or your date and you're not at the same table as a different party. A friend and I met up to go here for the first time and it did not disappoint. It looks small and deserted in the front, but there is a large back area. They played some of my favorite songs from Rafi Pagan and Joe Bataan which I thought I would never hear in the wild. The ambiance is more homey and welcoming and has a James Turrel Vibe to it which is nice. The drinks were great too! I had the Tamarind cooler with Mezcal which tastes like coffee which was nice. My friend originally ordered the Ginger Yuzu, but sadly was not his vibe. We asked one of the servers if we could exchange it and they did so quickly. Later in the evening, I accidentally spilled my drink. I honestly thought that I wouldn't get another drink, but the woman helping us gave me another drink of the same Hazy IPA!
