And right now, hidden in the depths of Brooklyn, you can experience a preview of heaven's drink. It features a recipe invented by God, tested by Jesus and imbibed by his favorite apostles. Said recipe includes, strawberry, pineapple, shiso, pickled brine, jasmine pearl, pickled plum syrup....and it's topped with a COCONUT-PANDAN FOAM that will make you lick your stomach, it's so effing delectable. I haven't stopped thinking about Acid Rain since I had it. I think I might even have prayed about it a little. I definitely dreamed about it--glorious, heavenly dreams featuring endless clouds of that pandan foam, all waiting for me to consume them. Oh my lord. The Hidden Pearl is located inside Wanpaku straight to the back. It's not posted on their website, but they have happy hour M-F from 5-7! From their extensive cocktail list, only 2 are listed on HH: pandan painkiller and a passionfruit vodka cocktail not on the menu ~$13 each. They also have 3 food options: sausages, pork buns, and potato salad. We got both drinks to try and they were a little on the sweet side, but still yummy. The pandan painkiller has a beautiful light green color We also got the sausage skewers (comes with 3) and the pork buns which had a slight kick to it. Our fave drink of the night though was the sesame bun martini! It's still strong, but has hints of sesame and the red bean brush on the side of the glass adds a touch of sweetness if you want it. I love the brightness inside the Hidden pearl from their skylight. Definitely check out their happy hour, but I would stick to drinks off the regular menu next time read more

As ubiquitous and very 2010's it is to encounter a speakeasy, walking to the back of a business to uncover an unexpected cocktail bar has not lost its charm for me. A lovely little ramen shop gives way to this adorable little tiki bar with barely enough room to seat 18 people, so it can truly feel like your little secret. During the day the skylight allows the room to bathe in natural light and in the evenings the dimly lit space is the perfect setting for a date. The amazing drinks and bar snacks and friendly bartenders are just the cherry on top. I really love their selection of Japanese whiskeys, beer, and sake, but when I visit I want the expertise of the bartenders behind the counter. Every cocktail I've tried here has tasted really nuanced and delicious, so I wouldn't worry about being paralyzed by choice and just go with your gut. Their snack menu complements the drinks well-- try their takoyaki, karaage, and wanpaku fries. The playlist is fun, and not too loud so you can easily have a hushed conversation over your amazing cocktails. This is a tiny "speakeasy" behind a Japanese restaurant. The other reviews made it seem like you can order ramen and other entrees from the attached restaurant, but don't be misled! You cannot, but the place has its own small menu of appetizers! The ambience was really nice with a ceiling window. I liked it at first but then it was still very bright at around 7pm when we went. I found that a little strange as most speakeasies are not only hidden, but also very dark in the interior. We each got 2 cocktails. I appreciated watching the bartender prepare them. The drinks looked memorable, but they tasted average. The apps on the other hand were surprisingly good! We liked the shishito peppers, the karrage chicken and the spicy tuna with the fried crunchy rice. The fries were meh. I felt that we got a tiny serving and they were served on a flat plate which made them look kind of sad. I recommend serving them in a basket. This bar is as the name promises- a hidden pearl. If you're trying this place for the first time there's some things you should know. It's on the expensive side, 17-20 dollars per cocktail. With that being said, this isn't somewhere you go to catch a buzz. For four drinks I ended up spending 155 dollars before tip so I would not recommend staying for more than one round. It's also a tiny space so you may have to wait for an open table, but if you have the time, it's worth it. The wait and bartending staff are highly knowledgeable and great at what they do. The place is very appropriately named, as it is totally unassuming and quietly tucked away in the back of Wanpaku. Once you enter, it immediately gives off an inviting, speakeasy vibe and makes you want to settle there for the night, which is exactly what my friend and I did. :) Our bartender was Jamie, who was so friendly and attentive and a TRUE mixologist. The drinks are very creative and so deliciously well balanced. My friend and I tried many (and I mean many) of the cocktails off their menu and were impressed with all of them. I appreciated that none were overly sweet or overly bitter, which can often be the case when you're at the mercy of a less experienced/skilled mixologist. Jamie is a rock star. Def try to make reservations if you can. We sat at the bar and looked at the great cocktail menu and settled on the Nilsson Schmilsson. It was absolutely delightful and made with fresh ingredients. The flavors of the drink was super refreshing an addicting. Gin, Coconut, lime, vanilla and yuzu. This cocktail def needs to be sipped and savored. We didn't try any apps because we had dinner at Wanpaku before visiting. If you are looking for a great place to enjoy a well balanced delicious drink in a nice atmosphere, COME HERE!
