Dear. Sweet. Jebus. I haven't gone to heaven (yet), but I know what drink they're serving there. It's called Acid Rain. And right now, hidden in the depths of Brooklyn, you can experience a preview of heaven's drink. It features a recipe invented by God, tested by Jesus and imbibed by his favorite apostles. Said recipe includes, strawberry, pineapple, shiso, pickled brine, jasmine pearl, pickled plum syrup....and it's topped with a COCONUT-PANDAN FOAM that will make you lick your stomach, it's so effing delectable. I haven't stopped thinking about Acid Rain since I had it. I think I might even have prayed about it a little. I definitely dreamed about it--glorious, heavenly dreams featuring endless clouds of that pandan foam, all waiting for me to consume them. Oh my lord. We also got the tart and fiery Passion Of Okinawa, which was fab in its own way. And the Wanpaku Fries to tide us over until dinner. But that first drink. I am 100% on board with mitigating climate change, but I won't lie that I kind of pray for Acid Rain on a near constant basis. It's just....so delicious.
Victoria the bartender is awesome, she made our night. So friendly and cool. Bar is awesome, not too noisy and drinks are delicious. Try the sugar snap pea drink- summer in a cup. Also one with tamarind and mole and plantain. Super interesting. Hidden gem (though they've been around for forever)
The cocktails are literally to die for. Especially the ones that I tried. Every step made me taste three different things. Kudos to the bartender they've come up with some excellent mixes. The food especially the small bites are excellent as well. It's a nice cozy hidden bar. Highly recommend making reservations.
Tucked away inside the Japanese restaurant Wanpaku, this small, intimate speakeasy bar is a hidden gem. With limited seating at the bar and just a few tables, it has an exclusive, cozy feel. No reservations needed--just walk right in! One of the highlights is their impressive selection of Japanese whiskeys, perfect for whiskey lovers. * Ocha Old Fashioned - Absolutely delicious. The hojicha-infused whiskey shines through beautifully, creating a smooth and well-balanced cocktail. The baby peach garnish was a fun touch. Easily my favorite!!! * Winter in Tokyo - A solid choice, though quite heavy on the sesame flavor. Slightly sweet with a cranberry garnish, it's unique and enjoyable if you appreciate nutty, toasty notes. * Belladonna - A hard pass for me. I was told it resembled a Manhattan, but it was nowhere near one. It was served with a salty lotus root chip on the side. Overly salty and unbalanced, it was honestly unpleasant. This is one cocktail I wouldn't recommend--it should be taken off the menu. On the bright side, the bartender was kind enough to take the Belladonna off my bill, which I appreciated. While I'd consider coming back to see if they introduce more innovative cocktails, I wouldn't rush to return. :/
This hidden gem behind a ramen shop is your gastropub for small bites and superb drinks!!! A must stop for those enthusiast looking for speakeasy spots. I personally love them and speaking of drinks, I love a good old fashion and this spot incorporates an excellent Japanese infused whiskey twist. All the spirits and its presentation is immaculate and so sexy. So definitely stop by and try to get there a little early to avoid a wait during rush hour. It's a very small and intimate spacing but worth the wait!!! Thank me later
I never give reviews either, but I had to leave one for this place. Coolest speakeasy I've ever been to. I was on my first solo trip to NYC and my cousin recommended this place. I just wanted to grab one or two drinks and stand then move on to the next one. The manager let me in to get a drink even though it was kinda full and I was alone. They treated me very well as I was trying to navigate my first solo experiences and I really appreciate the service they gave! Cocktails were really good too, tried the suggestions of the bartender and it was great. I don't like mezcal or whiskey typically, but the cocktails that had those were GREAT!
Fantastic drinks! This place is one of the few spots that I felt my $18 was worth for a cocktail. Drinks are inventive and well balanced. Food is also incredibly delicious. Highly recommend this spot!
Loved every minute of every hour spent here . It's a small space, very intimate. I didn't eat here but we sure drank . We tried a few malt whiskeys, tried a cocktail here, some sake there ... but went back to the whiskeys. Alot of brands Ive never had . I think I'll go back and do my lil taste test again . i cannot rave enough about how fantastic this place was - truly top TIER cocktails. the drinks: i tried three: the sesame martini, the pandan, and the japanese breakfast. the sesame martini is literally heaven - the red bean vodka is divine and the sesame fragrance is everything. pandan has a great layered flavor and the japanese breakfast is the perfect cinnamon end to the meal. the food: takoyaki and crispy rice are a must, you can pass on the scallops. the service: STELLLARRR. our server doubled as the bartender, and she was phenomenal- like so so so kind and amazing. the space: intimate and modern
As ubiquitous and very 2010's it is to encounter a speakeasy, walking to the back of a business to uncover an unexpected cocktail bar has not lost its charm for me. A lovely little ramen shop gives way to this adorable little tiki bar with barely enough room to seat 18 people, so it can truly feel like your little secret. During the day the skylight allows the room to bathe in natural light and in the evenings the dimly lit space is the perfect setting for a date. The amazing drinks and bar snacks and friendly bartenders are just the cherry on top. I really love their selection of Japanese whiskeys, beer, and sake, but when I visit I want the expertise of the bartenders behind the counter. Every cocktail I've tried here has tasted really nuanced and delicious, so I wouldn't worry about being paralyzed by choice and just go with your gut. Their snack menu complements the drinks well-- try their takoyaki, karaage, and wanpaku fries. The playlist is fun, and not too loud so you can easily have a hushed conversation over your amazing cocktails. As long as it remains easy to get a seat here, I can see myself returning here over and over again.

Cute little bar tucked away behind a ramen restaurant. It's not really a speak easy, but feels like one. There's not a ton of seating but I've never had an issue walking in on a weekday or weekend. The Japanese breakfast was so good definitely recommend it.

I love the Asian touch in these drinks including yuzu, pandan, coconut, Japanese breakfast, etc. The intricacy of these drinks and the liquor selection on the wall amazed us. We ordered a mock tail and a cocktail which was very strong in ginger flavor. It was a hefty price but I guess it goes with the speakeasy.
Enjoyable Friday evening at the back of Wanpaku. It is truly hidden! The space in the back is small but cozy. When we first arrived around 7, it was somewhat empty. By the time we left at 9, all seats were filled. I started with a non-alc that had pandan foam and it was really lovely. When my friend came, we shared the battambong fries, and the sushi-like set (3) from the bar menu. Bartender was friendly and super knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. I ended the night with the Natsu Air, light and foamy. read more
Walked in on a Friday at 5:20 PM and easily got bar seats. I tried: + Piña punk cocktail - loved the ube foam, but the cocktail itself wasn't my fave + Shinigami cocktail - excellent + Pandan daiquiri (on happy hour) - amazing, best drink I tried Service was friendly. Overall rating: 4.7 Omg my pictures look terrible & definitely don't do this place justice. Tucked behind a sushi spot, a speakeasy restaurant is a cute spot for a pre-appetizer with a friend. I went just to try the clarified pain killer and it was interesting. I don't know if I liked it. Lol However, the truffle fries were very good & I was very surprised. Service was okay. I think I'd go back for a date and if I was in the area. Def not solo. Def not with friends. Not a place I would seek out, but still a cute spot. Cocktail bar casual. read more
This is a tiny "speakeasy" behind a Japanese restaurant. The other reviews made it seem like you can order ramen and other entrees from the attached restaurant, but don't be misled! You cannot, but the place has its own small menu of appetizers! The ambience was really nice with a ceiling window. I liked it at first but then it was still very bright at around 7pm when we went. I found that a little strange as most speakeasies are not only hidden, but also very dark in the interior. We each got 2 cocktails. I appreciated watching the bartender prepare them. The drinks looked memorable, but they tasted average. The apps on the other hand were surprisingly good! We liked the shishito peppers, the karrage chicken and the spicy tuna with the fried crunchy rice. The fries were meh. I felt that we got a tiny serving and they were served on a flat plate which made them look kind of sad. I recommend serving them in a basket. Overall, beautifully crafted drinks that kind of lacked flavor/originality, but the apps were great. read more
This bar is as the name promises- a hidden pearl. If you're trying this place for the first time there's some things you should know. It's on the expensive side, 17-20 dollars per cocktail. With that being said, this isn't somewhere you go to catch a buzz. For four drinks I ended up spending 155 dollars before tip so I would not recommend staying for more than one round. It's also a tiny space so you may have to wait for an open table, but if you have the time, it's worth it. The wait and bartending staff are highly knowledgeable and great at what they do. If you're open to trying new things, don't be shy about asking for their input! read more

Quite the intimate hidden gem in the back of a Ramen restaurant. The cocktails are fancy and unique little concoctions. Andy and Sheldon were super helpful with drink and bite suggestions. The service was seamless, great music playing, good for small groups: 2-3 people. read more
The place is very appropriately named, as it is totally unassuming and quietly tucked away in the back of Wanpaku. Once you enter, it immediately gives off an inviting, speakeasy vibe and makes you want to settle there for the night, which is exactly what my friend and I did. :) Our bartender was Jamie, who was so friendly and attentive and a TRUE mixologist. The drinks are very creative and so deliciously well balanced. My friend and I tried many (and I mean many) of the cocktails off their menu and were impressed with all of them. I appreciated that none were overly sweet or overly bitter, which can often be the case when you're at the mercy of a less experienced/skilled mixologist. Jamie is a rock star. They also have elevated bar snacks to go along with their elevated drinks. I highly recommend the karaage! Looking forward to returning soon. read more
"EFFING" amazing cocktail program here! Cocktails are layered, balanced, delicious. My new favorite cocktail bar. Ambiance is just right- cool music, not too crowded, but still the spot to be at. Was able to walk in early on a Friday night (6:30). Bartenders are friendly and incredibly experienced, but the vibe is still comfortable and approachable. Cannot say enough good things about this place- better than most fancy manhattan bars I've been too! read more
My friends and I came here spontaneously to kill time before a dinner res, and we're very glad we did! As other reviews mentioned, you do have to walk through Wanpaku to get here but it's not really a speakeasy as it has a sign on the entrance. The space itself is small but well decorated. We came here at around 6pm on a Saturday and were able to be seated immediately! I got the "Your Summer Passion" which was fruity and tropical and just up my alley! We also got edamame and shishito peppers as a light snack and those were very well roasted and seasoned as well! Wish we spent more time here- I plan to come back and explore more of the menu and also the restaurant outside! read more

Great little speakeasy with Asian inspired drinks! The place itself didn't seat too many people, but it was a nice ambiance with great music. The drinks were unique and served in fun glasses. I would definitely come back to try the restaurant food and try some more of the drink menu. read more

Made a short visit to The Hidden Peal on Sunday evening. A wonderful Japanese speakeasy that is simple in atmosphere, but sophisticated in their drink options. Quality: I truly enjoyed both cocktails I ordered during our visit. The first, Night Cap Coffee Break, was a whiskey forward drink with a hint of coffee, smooth all the way through. The other Lost In Kyoto was more floral, but nearly as delicious. We also snacked on some Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, which was served beautifully and tasted great, but was a mess to construct. Quantity: Strong and tasty cocktails. Value: $15-$16 for Cocktails. $15 for Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. Ambiance: The Hidden Pearl is a small cocktail bar located at the back of Wanpaku in Greenpoint. After walking through the main restaurant a swinging door leads to this simple oasis. Other than the well organized bottles behind the bar and the skylight overhead, it is a very minimal space. Excellent music played and conversations echoed in the room. Crowd: Small space with just a few guests. Service: Excellent bartender, very attentive and knowledgable. Went here with a friend to grab a couple drinks after reading some great reviews. This place is at the back of a Japanese restaurant, which gives it a cool speakeasy vibe and also allows you to order (very good) food from the restaurant. After ordering drinks, we ordered shishito peppers and the spicy tuna dish. The shishito peppers were good, but the spicy tuna dish was out of this world. The drinks were also very good, but they took a while to come out and the place was lacking a bit of a vibe as there was only one other party there besides us. Overall, this is a cool little spot and it's definitely a plus you can order in from the adjoining restaurant--but maybe wait til a little later as when we were there around 7pm it was pretty empty. read more
All my expectations came true when entering The Hidden Pearl. This is a cute speakeasy/lounge. It is straight in the back of Wanpaku. When entering THP it's comfy, cozy, with white walls, wood and gold accents. The music is chill, all they play is vinyl records. The lounge holds about 18-20 patrons. Def try to make reservations if you can. We sat at the bar and looked at the great cocktail menu and settled on the Nilsson Schmilsson. It was absolutely delightful and made with fresh ingredients. The flavors of the drink was super refreshing an addicting. Gin, Coconut, lime, vanilla and yuzu. This cocktail def needs to be sipped and savored. We didn't try any apps because we had dinner at Wanpaku before visiting. If you are looking for a great place to enjoy a well balanced delicious drink in a nice atmosphere, COME HERE! I suggest you get an app or eat at WANPAKU in front first they are both great establishments. Read my review for that restaurant. Parking wasn't that difficult (317) read more
