We had about 16 people and I was able to email ahead of time to get a few tables reserved in the backyard/patio. Awesome dive bar with an incredible happy hour and even more incredible food pop-up scene. My partner and I went to try the Sailor and Siren lobster roll pop-up (we got the lobster dip and sulty roll), which paired perfectly with some beverages from Broken Land! Nice place to chill and have drinks with friends, they offer happy hour Monday - Friday. There's not table service which I like, bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are standard and the quality of the cocktails is good, not outstanding but better than average. I tried a cocktail with violet and gin, it was good. Not a place for music lovers as music is secondary and the main sound is people's voices, however still a nice place to start the night and have a drink or two before moving somewhere else. Decor is cheerful and the smell of cinnamon all over the place make you feel as in a holiday capsule. read more

Love this spot! We've been coming here for over a year now quite frequently and it's become our go-to spot. Great relaxed atmosphere, friendly bartenders. They do a frozen pina colada during the warmer months, I don't even like pina coladas but I love theirs! In the winter they have cold weather cocktails like glögg (mulled wine) and cider. Broken Land is perfect for friends, date night or even by yourself with a book. Couldn't recommend this place more, if you're in Greenpoint definitely stop here! read more

I really enjoyed popping in this place to read in the afternoon. I can't speak to the nighttime scene but there were a lot of good seating options (a couch, nice chairs, outdoor space in both the back and front). I h had a saison from Ommegang and then some bourbon by Noah's Mill. They have an outdoor dining setup in the front and a courtyard in the back. The bartender was friendly and quick. read more

I have never been to Greenpoint before so when I had the chance to go for brunch at Glasserie, with some new friends , I jumped at the chance for more than just the reason to see them... I had read great things about Glasserie and didn't know my day would continue on to be such an interesting fun day. This "hole in the wall " bar (dark) has its regulars- when the Greenpoint residents we were with walked in, they not only knew the bartender but some people at the bar, and I really like and miss that... when I lived in Hoboken in my early 20s it was very similar.... but this is a totally different vibe...obviously! It is a hipster vibe I'm not gonna lie and I'm totally not in that game , with an artsy kind of euro touch . The drinks were incredible (major score) they had a special margarita with a wine topper that you'll see pictures of that was off the chain...and the back porch where everyone is rolling their own cigarettes is a pleasant surprise- I'm not that cool. I buy camels if I'm going to smoke, but it was an experience. The inside is very dark which I kind of like if you're going to a dingy (dark) bar on a Sunday afternoon to drink and across the street was another bar that seem to have an absolute shit ton of men. It's called the pencil Bar or something like that because they used to make pencils there... I'm not sure if it's a gay bar because pencil kind of implies to me something to do with a phallus, but either way they were very handsome men outside and just wandering around Greenpoint in general. Not judging just observing. A nice margarita with Rosemary infusion & a red wine topper was $12- perfectly reasonable for New York standards and made me feel extra fuzzy so kudos to doing it right and having a very relaxed vibe. read more

Broken Land has cozy and nice atmosphere. It's has inside and outdoor space but I couldn't go to outside because they were so many smokers. Since I am not a big fan of overcrowded bars so this place was perfect for me to hang out. I loved their Frozen Pina Colada!! You have to try ! "Manager" was extremely rude. We tried to sit out back on a colder night and the heat lamp at the table we chose wasn't working. After a few minutes of inspecting the lamp a woman from a full table in the back emerged with an overflowing glass of wine and shouted that we shouldnt be touching the lamp as we would break it and claiming to be the manager. She went downstairs and after flipping a switch and sitting back at her table with her overflowing glass nothing happened. She seemed more concerned with partying with her friends than doing her job. When we asked her if there was an issue with the lamp she started claiming we broke it and threatened to charge us. Never again will I step foot in there as long as that woman represents their business. read more

I've only been once, but I had a pretty swell evening here several weeks back after a visit to Paulie Gee's around the corner. When we first walked past, I was intrigued because 1) It was dark 2) It didn't appear to contain any "scene" going on and because of that, 3) there appeared to be adequate seating. This was especially notable, because around the corner, the bars seem to have quite the opposite situation and I knew we'd want to set up somewhere for a while after dinner. It was a Monday night, around 11pm and I love going out on Monday nights because 1) No one else likes to go out on Monday nights 2) I need a fun way to start the week and 3) (related to 1.) I feel like I'll able to get a spot at the bar or at a table and not scream over some kind of scene happening. (Can you tell I'm scene-phobic?) I can't speculate how it is on the weekend at Broken Land, but this here is my ideal Monday night spot. I love the space. It's dark and cozy and a bit weathered (in a good way) and there's even a patio out back (but it was raining that night). Really chill vibes. Really low key. We were just going to have one drink and move on, after all we were only in Brooklyn one night and wanted to hit up some other places, but we ended up stay for three and chatting with the friend, yet not overbearing, bartender. Corner spot at the front of the bar is key. You can watch passersby and whatever intrigue might be going on inside the bar. The mafia don spot (actually, that's probably the back corner of the bar, but you get my point!) Perfect place for Yours, Truly. I'm glad to know it's there because it's my intention to go to Pauly Gee's whenever I'm in town. read more

Spent some time at Broken Land waiting for our nearby reservation. A great dive bar with excellent cocktails and a take it or leave it attitude. Quality: The Frozen Pina Colada that Broken Land serves up is one of the best I have ever had. With the added rum float, it had the perfect balance of alcohol with the flavor. I highly recommend it. I also got the delicious Baby Spice, a jalapeno infused vodka with apricot, lime, honey, and bitters. Sweet and spicy, a tasty cocktail that works great. Quantity: Decent sized drinks. Note that the Miller High Life Pony is an adorable little bottle. Value: $11 for a Frozen Pina Colada. $12 for Signature Cocktails. $3 for a Miller High Life Pony. Ambiance: Broken Land is located in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn. The dive bar has two areas, a dimly lit indoor space and an outdoor patio behind the bar. The indoor space has a long bar along the left wall and then some chairs and couches surrounding it. The back patio is a courtyard that is surrounded by nearby apartments and businesses. It was a popular spot with plenty of tables and room for an additional small bar. Alternative rock and 80s jams poured out the speakers, which seemed great for the crowd. Crowd: Almost entirely regulars who knew and joked around with the bartenders. The outdoor patio is dog friendly and also smoker friendly, so expect to see each. Service: Authentic bartenders who do not adjust attitudes for the customers. Fun and unexpected for this area of Brooklyn. Parking: Tough street parking nearby, but not so bad a few blocks away. read more

My friend recommended we go to Broken Land for some amazing Pina Coladas. We walked in, said hello to the bartender and sat down at the bar... and waited... and waited... and waited. Finally, my boyfriend got frustrated and went over to the bartender and asked if she was planning on serving us. The bartender seemed out of it... but took our order. As I usually find pina coladas a little too sweet, I got a margarita on the rocks. But I did taste my friend's pina colada, and it actually was pretty good. But flagging down the bartender to get another drink was a little difficult. Not sure I would go back. The drinks were good, but between the service and how many flies were buzzing around (a lot), it still a little TOO divey and I don't know if it's worth my time. read more

I lived literally next door to this bar for about 2 months back in 2013. I wish that I did now that I've been to Broken Land, but it is unfortunately an actual impossibility to live near a cool place while simultaneously living with sane people. That kind of luck would be testing the Gods of New York far too much and would surely cause all of Brooklyn to implode. Anyway, I was here for only one drink, a sazerac, which was made beautifully and deliciously by the skilled bartender. And my friend and I had just taken a glass etching/mixology class across the street so we knew what we were talking about, uh huh. My friend greatly enjoyed his rum old fashioned, which is apparently a thing that you can order. At $12 each, I'd say the drinks here are a standard price for a well-made cocktail in Brooklyn. The night was beautiful, so we sipped our beverages outside on the wood- and brick -centric back patio. Back patios are so nice. Astoria needs more of these. read more

Stopped here for after dinner drinks. I liked all the hot wintertime drinks they had - cider, mead, and glog! I tried the cider, which was absolutely delicious, spicy and sweet. The drink was not very strong and the alcohol flavor was barely noticeable because it was warm, but it made me feel so cozy. Since I was hanging out with visiting friends, I appreciated that the bar wasn't too loud. It's always hard for me to find places to get a drink that have reasonable volume for talking so I will be back to Broken Land for this reason. The place has a nice ambiance with lots of relaxing lighting, including a bunch of white twinkle lights for the holidays. Definitely more cozy than clubby. It took quite some time to place my drink order, but the bar was pretty busy and the bartender was nice enough. read more
