Moonlight Mile is a casual, pet friendly neighborhood bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn that specializes in whiskey. At the time of this writing, they had two, maybe three bartenders with the same name so just address them as "John" and there is a chance you will be right. :D Regarding food: there is none. This place is all about whiskey, bourbon and beer. Their Kennessee (sassafras) old fashioned is my favorite cocktail, as are several of their locally brewed beers on tap. All three showed off different styles, from citrus to peach to smoke. The bar is warm, inviting, and very chill. This is a cute place on the corner that really allows you take in the fresh air! the bartenders are kind, there's enough indoor and outdoor seating for it to be a good date night or casual drink, and the ambiance is just right! I got a Cabernet, although their liquor selection seems to be the go-to for people here. It feels like a joint for locals but absolutely inviting for anyone. So admittedly I had bookmarked this spot ages ago when I saw they were a whiskey/bourbon bar that served Game of Thrones themed drinks. The dream. Fast forward and I was doing dinner with a friend and he wanted a nightcap and I'm like 'well, I yelped the hell out of the area'. Largely because I never go out to Greenpoint and embarrassingly have no idea what the hell is out here. Where do people drink things? I love the atmosphere of the place. It isn't remarkable but its dark and moody and the paintings on the wall are dark and moody and those dark cherry colored bottles of bourbon are grinning up at you as you enter. For single pours of whiskey - kind of expensive. The cheapest pour is like $15. My bad. Cocktails - not too bad - $12 not on happy hour. They have a pretty extensive craft beer menu even surprisingly at affordable-ish prices. Happy Hour is 5-7pm $1 off beers, wine, and specials, $7 beer/shot combos. Okay, here is where I got excited - The Game of Thrones cocktails were still on the menu. Be still my heart. What are you doing to me? I have always wanted to drink a Jon Snow. To be honest, I couldn't have just one of the Stark family and I also had the Ned Stark and then later banged back a White Walker. I have issues. The Jon Snow is Old Forester Bourbon, Lemon Juice, Allspice, Three Chili Syrup, Simple Syrup, Blueberry Port & Blueberries. I liked the sweet and spiciness going on. Really smooth drinking. Ned - Rittenhouse/Old Overholt Rye Blend, Turbo Syrup, Allspice, Muddled Pear, Lemon Juice & Three Chili Syrup. Definitely more my cup of tea. This was my favorite drink of the night. Things definitely mature with age. He's like the Obi Wan Kenobi of alcoholic beverages. White Walker: Stillhouse Moonshine, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup, Egg White & Creme de Peche. Probably the reason why I called out of work the next day. I liked the creamy foam of it but it had a funky taste to it. Maybe I shouldn't be mixing moonshine with bourbon. Bottom line, the cocktails are incredibly well crafted. The place is super chill and cozy. They have an incredible list of whiskey to explore. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Moonlight Mile is like some kind of magical Goldilocks bar - everything here is just right. A large group of us recently spent a good chunk of the night here for a friend's birthday celebration and, while patrons came and went all night, somehow the crowd size and noise level always seemed perfect - crowded enough to feel fun and vibrant, but never so crowded or loud that you felt even remotely claustrophobic, or as if you couldn't hear the person standing two feet from you. The decor is dark yet somehow warm and welcoming, like any good bar should be. But now, I've buried the lede.. should have gotten to the drinks first, shouldn't I have? Again, I think a perfect array of options for any drinker in your party - an excellent, diverse assortment of about 12 craft beers on tap, a small but solid wine list (the Albarino was very popular), and wonderful cocktails, solid and unpretentious (just like the bar). They are created with care and precision (but, blissfully, not by people with waxed moustaches and knickerbockers). My personal favorites were the Kennessee Old Fashioned (Bourbon, Sassafras Syrup & Bitters) and the Greenpoint Sour (Rye, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup, Egg White & Blueberry Port). Music, you say? A good bar needs excellent tuneage? The jukebox is free - yes, FREE!!! - and yet, judging by the number of our songs we heard during the night, none of the fine patrons of this lovely establishment abuse this privilege and commandeer the juke to play 40 songs in a row. Not to mention that the jukebox seems impeccably curated, with a diverse array of musical eras and genres. I'd say I fully love (and probably own or owned) 97% of the albums on the box -just drop the Bush album and the 2 Springsteen albums and I'll say your batting 1.000, Moonlight Mile! This bar was so wonderful, just immediately made me feel so completely at home, that it seriously made me wish that I lived in Greenpoint. I mean, until I got to the subway station to go home and saw that hope-killing, neon-green circular G staring me in the face, but nevertheless... I am sure it will make me get back on that G train in the future, which is indeed no small feat. read more

The Moonlight Mile :: A Story. My friend (a Greenpoint local) and I have been going on twice monthly food and drink adventures in the area and one evening she recommended The Moonlight Mile because it's her favorite and I love whiskey (spoiler alert - it's my favorite now too!). We always have such a good time here that we have since made a pact to end all evenings here when I'm east of the East River. Our first time was a Friday evening - we had come from another local spot on a rainy night where the drinks were just okay but the people watching was amazing. I immediately loved the vibe and aesthetic here - it's super cozy but also romantic lighting if you're taking a date. Since I adore peated anything, I got the Americillin and it was love at first sip! So, so good! My friend ordered the Foggy Mountain Manhattan which she said was delicious and also beautiful! Crafting the drinks here is a true art form - so fun to watch! We naturally needed a second round and I tried the Ned Stark because I was curious about the pear juice and three chili syrup - it was good, but not as good as the Americillin and I might never stray again. My friend tried either the Old Fashioned or the Molly Manhattan and similarly preferred her first drink moving forward. To my surprise I was able to order a hot dog made at the bar when I needed a snack - also super tasty and a solid deal at $3! This is a great little perk. The bartenders here are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and fun and they always have a great playlist reminiscent of Alt Nation circa 2010 - I love it! We have, as promised, been back every time since I've been in Greenpoint and we tend to bring even more friends each time. This past weekend we did a whiskey tasting - sweet, smoky and spicy. I loved the sweet and spicy whiskeys but sadly the smoky was too much for me which I was surprised! Maybe need to try a different one next time - we got a great lesson about all 3 with our tasting (thanks Zach!). We split 2 tastings among 4 people which was perfect and the pours were generous. I also had a beer for the first time because their selection is excellent! Highly recommend the Cigar City Guayabera Citra Pale Ale. I love so many things about this place - including that they carry my favorite peated bourbon from Kings County Distillery and that it's owned and operated by locals! It's a perfect place to be if you enjoy beer as well and they have a nice selection of beers on draft from Pilsners to IPA's.. My wife had 2 cocktails... Old fashioned and Ned Stark, both whiskey based drinks... She did not enjoy Ned Stark so much and kept complaining that it was sweet (or she was just drunk)... The staff is absolutely amazing. They are very attentive and provided excellent quality of service. Extremely friendly and welcoming people too! With 2 whiskeys and 3 beers, our tab was $45. read more

Full disclosure, I have known the owners for a couple decades - but doesn't it MATTER who owns and operates a business. Isn't that, maybe, the MOST important thing - especially of a service industry business. This bar is owned and operated by the best people ever. Moonlight Mile, hi! I've walked past you many times and have chatted about stopping in most times. Saturday evening, a group of four of us were walking from Franklin up to Manhattan, in search for a cocktail. This was the perfect opportunity. As we walked into this cozy, corner joint, we saw a couple of free tables - one was not far from the jukebox. How lovely to have that in the distance while enjoying a couple of drinks and some good conversation. We hung our coats, sat down & were immediately greeted by an energetic gentleman emerging from behind the bar. He explained a few things, gave us a couple of recommendations & had our drinks out in no time. Since it was about 17 degrees, Saturday, I opted for the Hot Toddy - always a fan. Came here on a weekday evening and it was nearly empty, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because the place is small to begin with. Recommend the Milk Stout if you like dark beers. I liked how a glass of water was automatically supplied along with the drink. There are high tables by the large, widely open windows, or you can sit at the bar. We were exploring the neighborhood after brunch and happened to stumble upon this gem - a whiskey bar of all places. They don't serve food, but that was fine with us; we're on a liquid diet half the time anyway. Felt right at home here being a whiskey enthusiast and found a few cocktails to suit our flavor preferences as well. Our bartender Neal was quick to offer some recommendations - one sweet and one smokey. I opted for the Moonlight Mile cocktail - their signature drink made with bourbon, homemade honey syrup, lemon juice and topped with champagne - this was the perfect choice for me as I love champagne and the sweetness cut through the bourbon just right. My other half went for the Kennessee Old Fashioned - usually made with a double rye whiskey, but he opted to substitute High West Whiskey Campfire, which added just enough smokiness. The KOF is also made with (expertly by Neil) homemade sassafras Syrup and angostura bitters - it's a smoked-up spin on a classic drink. You'll have to do quite a bit of scrolling to find an unhappy soul who Yelped about Moonlight Mile and it sounds to us like they were just in a bad mood - don't let one bad egg ruin the bunch, we always say! My girlfriend and I are traveling cocktail people. In short, we both loved this bar as one of the best bars in New York. At least directly post covid as many bars are still figuring themselves out. This bar is certainly good for people who love bourbon/whiskey based cocktails. Our favorites were the "white walker" and "Jon snow" cocktails. The atmosphere was incredibly friendly and the bartender was knowledgeable and a good conversationalist. I cannot recommend this bar more. read more

Complaining about losing $5 in Greenpoint? I guess those patrons should have gone to Lulu's for the budget pizza or simply stayed in Astoria. This place is absolutely incredible. A friend/colleague had recommended it a while back and I finally trekked here yesterday evening with my better half. The service was fantastic, the drinks were awesome and the overall aura was quite refreshing. We both loved the fact that we received exemplary and informative service in a proper whisky/bourbon bar named after a classic off one of the best Stones's albums ever produced. Moreover, it was great to be surrounded by fellow adults who kept their conversations at a reasonable volume and were simply there to partake in the eclectic choices of bourbons from all over the States on a cool and grey Wednesday evening. The Moonlight Mile is my work bar of choice. I've frequented their establishment for many a happy hour, and they're always happy to greet us with awesome service (and whiskey). The owner and bartenders are extremely friendly. I recently brought a crowd over after work to celebrate my birthday and they gave me some birthday libations on the house! The whiskey and beer menus are extensive, and the cocktails are great! I'm not usually a whiskey drinker, but the Suckerpunch and Greenpoint Sour are both really flavorful (and make you forget that you're even drinking whiskey). The Suckerpunch is like a tropical beach drink, but in the heart of Greenpoint. The Greenpoint Sour is sweet and frothy (thank you, egg). Try them! They don't serve much in the way of food (just a few small bar snacks), but if you ask, they're usually willing to let you order in food. This place is magical. I honestly don't even know what it is about this place that made me fall in love with it. It might be Gary's soothing hospitality, the jukebox in the back, the super friendly bartenders, the high end selection of drinks, and the down to earth vibe and distant location - a pearl amidst the quiet streets of Greenpoint - overlooking the city.
