I had heard about Torst as being a neighborhood wine bar with great food to order before arriving in Brooklyn, so I knew it had to be one of the first places I visit! *Spoiler Alert*... I was not disappointed AT ALL!! First impressions: it's a bit of a compact space, but there's also plenty of tables/seating to choose from....although it does fill in fast!! We came relatively early around 4pm, so we were able to take advantage of some of their Happy Hour prices, including: $14 Fried Chicken Sandwich $10 Cocktails, including the Frozen Espresso Martini I also got the Smash Burger and the Yuzu Sake, which weren't included in the Happy Hour. You order your food & drinks at the bar, but they bring the food out to wherever you're sitting once it's ready. As for the cocktails, they were both great!! The Frozen Espresso Martini was very creatively presented and I enjoyed the look and taste of it. The Yuzu Sake was strong and great quality! For the food, both the Fried Chicken Sandwich and Smash Burger were delicious!! The Fried Chicken Sandwich especially tasted so unique and creative with the sauce on it, but I also just really loved the solid burger and could tell it had excellent quality. However, my friends and I were here for the food, so that's what this review is based on. She-wolf Sourdough (7/10) - It was good bread, but nothing really special. Hot Crab Dip (7/10) - Very veggie forward flavors, but you do taste crab. Not bad. Btw, this dish comes with a few pieces of the She-Wolf Sourdough. Danish Dog (7.5/10) - Great snap to the bite of the dog itself. Bread was great. Pickles are interesting, but the curry mayo should be stronger and more bold. Simple mustard would have been better. Old Bay Chicken Wings (8/10) - Nice plump and juicy wings with that dusting of Old Bay seasoning. Yum! Fried Chicken Sandwich (5/10) - Chicken was fried well and bread was fine. However, the chili miso honey was way too much for me. Too sweet, not spicy at all, and just didn't work well. Dry Aged Burger (7/10) - Beef patty needs more seasoning and a better crust. No real char at all, though a decent beef flavor was present. Not into the sprouts, but the tomato jam was good. From what I heard, I had high hopes for the food here. With an incredible selection on tap, it's clearly a place that takes its beer program seriously - but it doesn't stop there. They also offer a solid lineup of wines, spirits, and cocktails, so there's something for everyone, even if beer isn't your go-to. The food is just as strong as the drinks. Their menu leans toward elevated bar food, and the burger is a standout - so good that when it was set down in front of my boyfriend, the person sitting next to him wanted one too. That pretty much says it all. Service is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, which makes the experience even better. Dropped in to grab something to go. Decided to try their chicken sandwich and ordered a RIZZO, Mezcal, Hibiscus, Velvet Falemnum, Lime, Bitters, while I waited. The drink was delicious. And do was the SANDWICH. At first I was like, $18 (with tax) for just a sandwich, no sides.... I was hungry and this place has good reviews, so I went for it. Completely respect tipping for good service as the staff works hard. 20% gratuity on large groups included I absolutely support, and most spots are transparent about this... Have never been at a bar where the bartender tells you "I already included the tip" for 1 beer for 1 person before spinning the iPad in your face that then asks for ANOTHER tip. If I don't even have autonomy over how much I tip anymore then I'd like to know before buying that my $12 beer turns into $17 and I'm asked to tip again on the iPad I hate slandering these spots but this is just ridiculous. Servers should be tipped. The servers here seem to think tipping isn't a gratuity for good service but rather an expectation for mediocre service. This is also illegal to do unless explicitly established to the customer prior to purchase which it was not here. Wouldn't come back and don't recommend this spot based on this. read more

Sat at the bar where the aesthetics to the space really impressed. As the bright and refined surroundings would suggest, their beer selection was curated with the best. For instance, Cantillon was just casually on draft and served in the best choice, most delicate stemware glasses. The selection of beer during our visit was on point, but potentially a one off as they were celebrating their anniversary. Prices were a little up there, as was expected from a beer bar serving beer of upper tier caliber. Food was ever present and the She-Wolf Sourdough (Tørst house-cultured butter) was ordered in earnest. I crushed that entire loaf on my own. Though satisfying -- with the prospect of having a major bowel movement of roasty sesame seeds incredibly high -- the bread wasn't as yeasty as I would have liked. The heavy amount of sesame seeds could have been the culprit, but I did so very much enjoy the flavor. The menu centers around a wide selection of beers on tap, but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of other offerings; from wines to frozen drinks, and even some sake! Cool upscale bar in Brooklyn with an eclectic beer selection. Not too many people on a Friday night, so was able to get two seats at the bar immediately. Despite the draft list, opted for the can of "Emerald Gardens" IPA ($10). Hazy hop, not too strong so easy to drink. For food, shared the Cheese Plate ($18) - a nice spread of three cheeses, toasted bread, jam, and berries. Cheeses are all excellent, as well as the hearty bread and sweet jam/fruit. Price-wise not the best value - 8 ounce offerings are almost 10 dollars, and full pours even more egregious. Service here is quick and they have some nice seating inside and outside. They also have small menu of cocktails and wine with some promotion (you have to check on somewhere in the menu.) I also love that the ABV and descriptions of each beer are approachable and make drinking here feel like a little adventure for my senses. I've been told that if you visit Torst in the evening it's often fairly packed, so I suggest you do as we did and pay them a visit in the daytime. The venue is comfortable and relaxed, with good music playing, and a lovely Danish-style decor. Tip: They offer a very broad selection of beers both in bottles and on draft.  There's a subway line very close to the venue, so getting here usually isn't a problem. We've been here a few times and I have been meaning to review and give five stars. Hats off to the chef the man in the kitchen!! Also the bartenders are always super friendly and know their stuff about beer! The burger is so flavorful, juicy, perfectly cook at med rare. I love the micro greens, it adds an earthy flavor that balances well with the meat and cheese. It does not come with fries. Instead, a small salad but you can order fries separately for $7! The watermelon salad you can't go wrong with. Great summer salad and they do it well. I don't remember what the green paste at the bottom was but it was delicious!! Tørst is a craft beer bar and gourmet restaurant that opened in Brooklyn, New York in March 2013. It was founded by Danish brewer Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø and chef Daniel Burns. Jarnit-Bjergsø is the founder of Brooklyn-based Evil Twin Brewing Company (circa 2010). The name of the brewery is a reference to Jarnit-Bjergsø being the "evil twin" brother of Mikkeller Brewery founder Mikkel Borg Bjergsø. Burns was the chef at restaurants such as Noma, Fat Duck, and Momofuku. When the two met, they had a vision of opening a beer bar that would appeal to both craft beer geeks and newbies alike. They opened up their collaboration in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood and the name "Tørst" was chosen because it's Danish for "thirst". While Jarnit-Bjergsø curated the impressive list of beers, Burns was in charge of the kitchen and the secret restaurant in the back room which was entitled "Luksus" (meaning "luxury"). The restaurant became the first one to earn a Michelin Star without serving liquor or wine with the meal. The two co-authored and published a book together in 2016 entitled "Food & Beer". Burns closed Luksus at the end of 2016 to move onto other projects, leaving Tørst to fully take over the kitchen duties. Today the establishment is owned by Bartley Cohen, the beverage director is Sam Casner and the chef is Jared Ferguson. I recently stopped in at Tørst for lunch while I was on a cycling trip in NYC. I've been wanting to visit the bar for years as it has a reputation for being one of the best craft beer bars in all of NYC. The location is a little hidden; just a tiny sign and unassuming exterior. Inside it felt like a secret European club: tiny, quiet and very mysterious. As I looked over the menu, the list of beer and food offerings looked equally impressive. I started out with a draught pour of Zero Gravity Craft Brewery's "Conehead" (All Citra IPA). It was served in a fancy glass and it tasted so refreshing after a long cycling trip on a hot day. For food, I ordered the Dry-Aged Burger (Smoked Tomato Jam, Gruyère, Sprouts, Red Onion, Toasted Brioche Bun) and it was out of this world! The ingredients tasted so fresh! For round two, I ordered a pour of Logsdon Farmhouse Ales' "Metamorphosis Rye Whiskey Barrel Imperial Porter". This Baltic Porter clocked in at 11.2% ABV and it had amazing flavors from the rye whiskey barrels. It paired well with a plate of Passionfruit-Pineapple Sorbet (Dulce De Leche, Chili Salt). In addition to the amazing beer and food, I must also compliment the staff who were equally knowledgeable and friendly. I had a nice conversation about beer with the beertenders. An excellent spot in the North Brooklyn area for craft beer enthusiasts. Torst carries a well-rounded variety for those who enjoy all different styles of craft beer. I had a Pilsner by Threes Brewing to start, followed by a 30th anniversary imperial stout, as well as pickled veggies and fries to snack on, and then a $20 burger and beer special (the beer was a canned Hefeweizen).
