With interesting music, warm and satisfying food, and cozy vibe, The Starlight Tavern was exactly what I needed it to be. We came in at the end of a very long day and were met with very kind service and a great vibe. I got the macaroni and cheese which good but could've been a bit more seasoned. The fries and fried pickles were both very good, as was the sauce that came with them. My friends spoke highly of the sliders and the chicken wings, though I did not try them. We went around dinner time on a weeknight and it wasn't very crowded but I'd love to come back for a chill Friday night out. Just as a note, you will have to show your ID to order anything (or at least we did) since it's 21+. read more

This is such a nice, chill bar with really nice bartenders. I've met some other nice customers on the few times I've been here too. The Cosmopolitan is fantastic. As for food, they have a lot of choices on their menu but so far I've just had the deviled eggs (very good when you just want a light bite) and the macaroni and cheese (also very good). I need to try more things still. I'm impressed to see that they even have a brunch menu! So far I've only been there in the early evening. I honestly, LOVE this place. Not only for some good f'n food but for some cocktails. The atmosphere is welcoming, like a friend's house. The backyard is top-notch. The amount of work that it must've taken to make this place as enjoyable as it is - is in itself amazing - especially because its one of the first places in the neighborhood to reinvent the local spaces. I cannot say enough, this place is the t-ey-t-s. Spelled it out to avoid nonsenses, but you get the idea. If you get the opportunity, also check out the Bushwick Country Club a few doors down. This cute dive feels like a home away from home, with living room vibes and delicious cheap eats that surpass all bar food options in the neighborhood. The bartenders are sweethearts, the music is on point (ranging from post-punk classics to Nigerian jams to 1970s French Yeye), and the backyard is a spacious delight (effervescently populated with fireflies in the summer). It's never too crowded, which makes me feel like it's Williamsburg's best kept secret. I recommend the $5 deviled eggs (laid over an abundant amount of mixed greens!), the $9 tacos (3 per order), and whatever soup they offer at the time. Specials change regularly. I really loved this place! Came in on a Sunday afternoon and was met by a very sweet and friendly bartender, whose name I'm going to add in as soon as I remember it. As others have said, the decor is 70's kitsch without being overbearing or contrived: wood paneling, retro ketchup and mustard bottles, vinyl booths, skee ball, stained glass, a TV set fishtank. It's exactly like sitting in someone's basement living room with great music and a food menu to satisfy your munchies. The deviled eggs are solid. Will be back! read more

Great local dive bar in the area! They have some cheap eats here, great place to come after a few drinks for a low-key hang out. Tried their pierogies and they were better than I expected. They have a cocktail list, beers, well drinks etc. and I love the low light ambiance and good music here. Will be back for sure :) read more

Best steak I have had in a long time - the special with a mushroom cream sauce. I adore a good steak, and this lived up to what I want and expect, yet not like your typical steak house. It was cooked to perfection (medium rare) accompanied by a mix of vegetables and lightly seasoned new potatoes. My husband ordered the Shepard's pie and while I only had a bite, I thought it was delicious. I washed all of that down with a few slushy Negroni's. Mmmh The beer selection will be next on my list of things to try. I adore the atmosphere, staff, and every little minute detail that have gone into this establishment. My only regret is not living closer, otherwise I would be a regular. I wish I could create a room like this in my future house someday... Great lighting, cozy and inviting with a nostalgic feel. The staff have always been friendly and kind (a rarity when you know this is the same block as the Bushwick Country Club) and I have yet to find anything on the menu that I don't love. I live right around the corner and have been meaning to try this place forever. So glad I finally did! The meal was delicious and the overall vibe is great! We ordered the scallop mac and cheese and the steak. The mac and cheese was AMAZING. 100% recommend. The steak was really good, but not the best steak ever. Literally the worst meal I've had in months -- which includes an trip to suburban Indiana. Overcooked and dizzyingly overpriced. We had the spicy chicken sandwich (described as fried but served grilled) and the mac and cheese with short ribs (with barely any short ribs). The only redeeming qualities were the pleasant service and fading memories of having a John burger early in the summer, which was fantastic. Inexpensive and comfortable pub, with surprisingly good food. Definitely worth going to as part of a bar crawl on Grand St., or even by itself. If you love the taste of a burger king burger, but don't want to eat something artificial, get the Tom Burger - hard to get a better grilled burger for $5. read more

Ordered from here on Sat night. Ordered the burger, fries, and pierogies... Received someone else's order. I called a few times and tried to explain but it was so loud on the other end that they couldn't hear me. I repeated myself for 10-15 mins and finally gave up. What a great surprise - I was a little uncertain given some of the older reviews here, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. Having spoken with the staff there I got the impression that the kitchen had been having difficulties with staffing, but happily it seems they've ironed out the earlier kinks. It's a pretty unconventional design aesthetic, but one I really liked - distinctly 70s kitsch but without feeling contrived. Reclaimed bowling lane bar top is a great idea. Lots of bar seating, along with some very capacious booths. Drinks selection was very solid - enjoyed both a bottled IPA (forgotten the name ...) and Michelob Amber which was actually surprisingly decent. However, the highlight was the steak. For ~$25 it was an admirable slab of meat, and was impeccably cooked. Rich, sweet, grain-fed beef cooked a perfect medium-rare with a superbly savoury butter. I'm usually a bit of a grass-fed beef snob, but this was good enough to remind me that the corn-fed approach has a lot of merit. All in all, definitely worth a visit on the strength of my one trip there. Go expecting a nice low-key evening of great beer and an excellent steak dinner and you should enjoy it! read more

Went in not expecting much more than some late-night food and a dive-y vibe, but was pleasantly surprised by a whole lot more. The 19.4oz Michelob Amber Boch for $5 all day is a great deal. For food, we ordered the chicken sandwich (comes with mac and cheese), "magic mushrooms", and the chicken caesar. Portions were amazing (we took half of it home) and it was all delicious. As for the vibe, it was put together a lot better than I expected. The outside of the bar definitely doesn't do the inside justice. It's very kitschy but tasteful, with lots of old-style beer swag. The music was great and it wasn't too loud. The service was absolutely incredible. Both bartenders were so nice the entire time. They'd come to our table to check up on us, they delivered our food and drinks, answered all our questions. Both beer and water glasses were never empty. Ordered a fried chicken sandwich expecting a big crispy piece of fried chicken on a tasty bun as pictured.....got a flat breaded processed filet (similar to what you would get at McDonald's or Wendy's) on two wilted pieces of PLAIN WHITE BREAD (Wonderbread style.) Chicken was disgusting and the bread inedible. There was nothing else on the sandwich- not sauce or lettuce- LITERALLY just the crappiest frozen chicken slapped onto the shittiest possible bread. The mac and cheese that came with it was worse than kraft or Annie's from a box. This for $16?!?!?!?! Absolutely insane. The food here is pretty stellar and it's why I keep coming back, the John Burger in particular, but not ordering alcohol quickly makes the staff treat you like a leper. Be prepared to spend $2 on seltzer water if you ask for it. Never been charged for seltzer from the tap at any bar. read more

We were ignored, then yelled at, and then given incredibly snotty attitude because of a food situation. The bar has great atmosphere and I'll definitely return for drinks, even if they seem a bit pricier than similar bars nearby. Service was friendly and quick, and the music was great, but sadly the food was pretty mediocre. The jalapeno poppers were way overpriced since you only get two and they each only fill half of the wonton. They tasted great, just needed more of them or a lower price. Otherwise we tried the $5 burger, sardines, and pierogies, all of which were fine but lacked much flavor. I'd like to return to try the Fish & Chips and French Onion Soup. So....we were so excited to come here for the scallop Mac and Cheese. We travelled from CT after seeing a video on Facebook about it...well it was nothing like the video at all...this is what it looked like. The taste was, average and it was a huge disappointment. The staff and service were on point and amazing, but to come all that way for a meal completely different in every way than what was anticipated, was a huge let down. I work for a bar/restaurant group in CT so I know how important reviews are. May I suggest to either make what is posted in the video, or remove it from the menu. read more
