My new favorite bar! Happy hour u til 8pm and plenty of activities daily. I want to go back for trivia night since it seemed to be well talked about and they have a lot of regulars as we sat at the bar and made friends. The food was really good as well I had nachos and got my chicken and jalapeño on the side since I was sharing with someone who didn't eat meat. TLDR; they gave my credit card to someone else, failed to return it, potentially tried to use it, and then called me a "little dick weasel" behind my back. Absolutely terrible business. I went to The Canary in Crown Heights with some friends on Thursday and opened a tab with my credit card. When I went to close my tab, the bartender told me that he had accidentally given my card to another customer and had that customer's card instead. Mistakes happen, so I was initially very understanding about it. I left my name, the last four digits of my card, and my phone number and asked them to contact me if the card was returned. The next day, the person who accidentally received my card found me on Facebook and messaged me directly. He confirmed that he had my card and said he would return it to the bar. I confirmed that was fine and that I would pick it up there. A few days later, he messaged me saying he had dropped the card off at the bar that afternoon. He even referenced the note I had left there. Despite this, the bar never contacted me. Later that night, I received an email showing an attempted transaction on the card at a grocery store near the bar. I'm not going to speculate about who attempted the transaction, but obviously that made the situation much more concerning. I went back to the bar Tuesday and showed them the messages confirming that my card had been dropped off. Initially, they told me they couldn't find it. The manager got involved, apologized, and told me he would look into it. About an hour later, the manager told me and said he had located my card and that I could come pick it up later that night. He gave me his personal number to coordinate the pickup. He also gave me a free beer and a burger so vibes were good for now. And then, while texting me to coordinate picking up the card, the manager accidentally sent me a message intended for one of his employees referring to me as a "little dick weasel." (See attached screenshot) At that point, I was over it. I canceled the card and have absolutely no interest in ever returning to this establishment. Mistakes can happen, that's fine we're all human. But the way this situation was handled was incredibly unprofessional, disrespectful, and frankly embarrassing for a business. Never go here! read more

My husband and I randomly dropped in for brunch and OMG... it was so good! We each got a cocktail (~$13 each) which were delicious. Then we shared 2 entrees, but there were so many items on the menu that looked good. Brunch smashburger - really generous serving, the meat and accompaniments were fantastic with perfectly cooked thick cut bacon. Fries were solid pub fries. Truffle egg and Prosciutto- served on what tasted like housemade English muffin. Prosciutto was perfectly crisp and not too gamey. Eggs had a good level of Truffle but wasn't overpowering. Side salad was refreshing though maybe a little heavier on dressing for our preference. Service was efficient and friendly. Was a relaxed atmosphere, busy but not chaotic. My daughter lives near the Canary, and she took me over for a drink. It definitely is a popular place. It was rocking at 6:30 on a Wednesday. We lucked out and got to seats along the wall adjacent to the bar. I loved the energy and ambience. It is definitely a local's place. My daughter had a Guinness draft, and I had a take-off of an old-fashioned. It was an excellent cocktail. Very smooth, well-balanced, and nicely sized. Prices were reasonable as well I almost forgot about the service. We had an EXCELLENT server. Drinks were served promptly, and she was friendly despite the sheer number of people that she had to serve. We liked it so much that we went back after dinner! Give it a try when visiting Brooklyn, or if you're looking for a new place to try if you live there. read more

The Buffalo wings are the best in the area and you have to try the burger and fries. It has just the right lighting to make a night out with spouse or just friends and if you get there before 8pm you might get a seat at the bar . This is my neighborhood bar. When I think to myself "I want a drink," this is where I think to go to. The bartenders here are cool and very talented. I'm bad with names, but the French bartender makers custom drinks and can speak to any palate. The food is high quality, especially for a pub environment. The staff and food here makes me happy. Found this place during our hunt for a good Irish breakfast and can say that The Canary's breakfast is on par with ones I had in Ireland. Pair that with the attentive and friendly staff, great Bloody Mary and good atmosphere this is a great place to spend a day. While the Irish Breakfast brought me in other menu items are outstanding. The Canary is a cozy neighborhood bar located in Crown Heights. It was a nice place to enjoy a cold beer and some good food after a picnic in Prospect Park. Service was friendly and accommodating. I sprained my ankle and was wearing a medical boot so the server immediately asked if we wanted a table in the back-that was really nice. They have a good selection of beers on draft including several local options. The smash burger was juicy, flavorful and came with a good portion of thick cut fries. The fish 'n chops were also tasty. I'm gonna be real with you Yelp, I usually end up here when I'm already drunk which is why I've held off reviewing until now but whatever. It's a good place and I like it! It's got a slightly upscale pub feel (unless you can snag that one great booth at the front of the place) but the menu is more aligned with normal pub prices. I've gotten chicken fingers here before with truffle aioli which was genuinely outstanding -- give me truffle everything all the time thank you. I also enjoy their cocktail menu which has a lovely cucumber gimlet and this great "gin lizzy" thing with vanilla and almond and passion fruit and all sorts of tasty things. The Canary is a great addition to the neighborhood! We came here for happy hour and had a nice time. They have great happy hour deals ($10 signature cocktails and $6 well drinks and select wine). I got the watermelon drugstore and the gardener's gimlet and both were tasty and a great value. We also ordered the pretzel, and although it was delicious and seemed freshly made, it was smaller than we were expecting for the price. Happy hour usually goes until 8pm on weeknights, but it goes until 9pm on Wednesdays. I was surprised at how busy it gets on weeknights! They also have trivia on Mondays and taco Tuesdays. read more

In short: cocktails were a bit underwhelming but food is tasty. Came here for brunch on a weekend and place was pretty empty; no reservation needed (don't think they even take them). Ordered an espresso martini and an Irish coffee and can't say I was that impressed with either, but enjoyed both entrees we ordered. Was missing the full English breakfasts I had while in the UK (one of my favorite aspects of English food), so I got the traditional Irish breakfast and it definitely satisfied my craving. Surprisingly, I found myself really enjoying the black and white puddings (have never been the biggest fan in the past). Thought they were seasoned really well. Eggs (over easy) were cooked perfectly and sausages were yummy; beans were good too. Kerrygold butter was a nice touch. A delightful addition to the array of restaurants and bars on Franklin Ave! The Canary is a new bar with the style of a classic Irish pub but the feel of something more modern. Happy Hour runs til 8 every day (9 on wednesdays), and there are other daily events including Taco Tuesdays and Trivia Mondays, which I plan to check out soon. I came for happy hour around 6:30 on a Thursday. Had no trouble getting a table for two, but it did start to fill up pretty soon afterwards. The drink I ordered, the Gardiner's Gimlet, was only $10 and delicious. Cucumber and basil meshed perfectly with the gin to create a smooth, refreshing cocktail. This is our second time here, and it's just as good as the first! We used to live down the block before they opened about a year ago, so we had to check it out. Came on St Pattys Day for a Guinness and we were happy to see the Premier soccer league on. Big soccer fans here, so that's why we came back a second time for brunch. Since we came for a soccer game, we decided to do the 90 minute bottomless for $25. It's already about the cost of 3 beers ($7-9 each) but also includes bloodys, mimosas and some beers, so it was perfect. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros (Mexican at an Irish pub - it was good!) and the Truffle Scramble with Prosciutto. Loved the later, eggs were super fluffy and the truffle butter on the English muffin was perfectly subtle. This place was packed on St Pattys (including live music!) and definitely gets busy after 12/1pm. No doubt it'll get more popular as word gets out, especially for soccer fans as there are ample tvs throughout. The owner Red also makes a presence and ensures everyone's having a good time. I have a service dog because of my medical needs as I suffer from epilepsy and have seizures. When I walked in to see my friend, they were telling me I had to go because I could not have my dog with me. I tried explaining to them that it is a service dog but they continued to try and tell me that she could not be with me. I tried explaining the rules of the ADA and then they tried asking me to show paperwork. The ADA makes it so they are only allowed to ask us 2 questions- "is that a service dog?" And "what task does your service dog perform?" And the staff at the canary were asking more than that and trying to say I had to give them paperwork. I did stay, but at the end they were threatening me that if I was to be rude to them again I wouldn't be allowed there. I wasn't being rude, I was just defending myself and my rights of having service dog for my medical needs. read more
