This place has all the makings to be a local favorite but it is just not cutting it. My biggest problem for this place was it was just dirty. Looking up there was about 100 flies, we didn't notice that until after we ordered foods but it didn't give us the best feeling. We were also totally confused by the loaded fries we ordered. The literally just added a slice of Kraft American cheese, didn't melt it and called it cheese fries. We were also surprised by the sauce on the fries, wasn't listed on the menu and we thought it was cheese at first but definitely a spicy mayo. Kind of odd. So overall, just not it. read more

The patio was open on a gorgeous 70‑degree Tuesday in March, but unfortunately the experience was completely overshadowed by the manager's behavior. We were informed the patio had to close by 7:30--which was disappointing given it was full--but the way it was handled was incredibly rude. The manager came around and began taking people's drinks without asking, then told us to leave the table. Before we even had a chance to stand up, he returned and told us again to get out. When we said we were leaving and had heard him, he responded, "Well, I didn't see you moving." The interaction felt dismissive and unnecessary. Glass wasn't all the way full to the rim even after some ice was added. We just ordered some fries to munch on while we drank and chatted. They came with a sauce that was yummy! I gave them 3 stars due to their bathroom having a pipe issue and was causing the floor to get extremely wet and dangerous for their patrons. My group of friends and I came here on a Saturday as we day drank. We were specifically looking for a place nearby that did espresso martinis and this was the perfect spot. The patio here is amazing if you come here on a beautiful day. It's big, has great string lights, and there are trees all around providing shade. It's not full service so you order at the bar inside (which can get pretty damn busy btw) but the bartenders were really nice given how busy they were and the drinks here were amazing! We did order some fries with some sort of Chipotle aioli and they were excellent! Didn't try the other food so we can't comment on that, but loved this spot! read more

Low quality picture, high quality bar food. Golden Years is the place you end up at when you're done with food-less happy hour and all you want is to split some good food for a good price. Def sit outside on the back deck but you do have to order inside which might be annoying especially if you're doing multiple rounds of drinks. I took a star away because I think the wings should be a little more crispy (I'll ask next time) but I added it back because they provide bug spray when you sit in the back patio. I've never seen that at a restaurant and it was an excellent touch. Also, management maybe play some music in the back? read more

This is a review following COVID-19 reopening. I visited this bar on a Tuesday night with two friends. We arrived very close to closing; but the staff was very nice and we were able to put a food & drink order right before the kitchen closed. I ordered the Golden Years Burger and my friend got the fried chicken sandwich which were delicious. The yard in the back is easily my favorite part about this place. Definitely a chill place to have a drink with friends, and the fact that the food is good makes it even better. Mask required unless seated. Hand sanitizer & insect repellent available! The sunny atmosphere and whimsical name of this bar reflect the experience. The bartenders and staff are super kind and accommodating. The drinks are great. Oftentimes they're playing indie rock from the '06 - '14 golden era, which makes my little indie sleaze millennial heart happy. My friend, Gary and I had such a great time during March madness coming back to Golden years every night to close it down. Eric, Tim and Sam are all great bartenders and the clientele is mixed with a fun vibe. Great music from the 70s and 80s and expertly prepared drinks. we had such a great time here and a lot of fun meeting the locals. Eric and Tim even knew our drinks ( cold ketel one martini and a manhattan) after the first night . Will definitely be back next time we are in Brooklyn. read more

After walking around Williamsburg on a Sunday foolishly thinking we could just walk into any place for food. We were walking around Metropolitan considering our options when their chalkboard said they had food. Good enough for us and a testament that bar chalkboards work. We walked in to find it empty and sat at the bar. Our bartender was laid back, letting us look at the menu and giving us the right amount of distance that can be so hard when you're the only ones there. The brunch menu was good, I ended up getting their version of a bacon, egg and cheesie which also did a good job of hitting the right notes but being better than your regular bodega sandwich. The egg was cooked just right, with the yolk running, add the nicely cooked fries and I basically devoured everything, which earned the bartender's approval. I've never been a huge bar person. I enjoy a drink as much as the next gal, but it's not typically my first instinct to hang out at a bar on a weeknight without a group that's making me meet them there. But after strolling into Golden Years last week early-ish on a Thursday, I could definitely see the appeal and I might even consider trying to become a regular there! There's something great about having a leisurely time at a chill bar when it's not too busy and there are plenty of places to sit, especially when there's food to enjoy on top of the drinks. In fact, the only drink I had was a few sips of their frozen Orange Creamsicle drink, which was heavy on the Tito's and very refreshing on a hot day. As for food, we went with the queso and chips, the kale Caesar salad, and the fried brussels sprouts, all of which were super tasty and fresh. You might not think that getting fresh veggies at a bar is a great idea, but you can rest assured that it's high quality here. And the queso didn't taste like it came straight from a jar! The music was loud but luckily it was a great playlist so I spent my meal Shazaam-ing all the songs. They also had a huge projector TV so it might be a good spot to go to catch a game, if that's the kind of thing you do. One of my favorite spots to get a drink in Williamsburg. Its no hassle, good seating, fun vibe, and a mix of dive bar and cocktail spot.

If you're looking for a no-frills bar with fancy drinks, this is it. We happened upon this bar last year, and were pleasantly surprised. However, we had somewhere to be later in the evening, and only had time for a beer. We took a mental note, and knew to return here at another time. And so we did. This time, we tried out their cocktails. All I have to say is, the old fashioned is amazing. The bartender made it nice and strong, so much so that I ordered the same exact drink AGAIN (I typically like to try a few different cocktails at a place). The only reason I haven't given it five stars is because 1. The food is a tad pricey, so we didn't actually order anything and 2. I guess I'm getting old because the music was really loud on this particular day, and I had a hard time hearing my boyfriend talk. I wished it had been turned down just a little, but again, I guess that's the old lady in me talking! Will return again when in Williamsburg! read more

I've been walking past this place for years, and finally made it in. I'm so grateful I finally went because this is going to be a spot I find myself coming to quite often. It's a great classic bar for a "chiller" night out. The bar itself is big with a ton of indoor and outdoor space. Great for bigger groups and smaller ones, too. They have both a food menu and a pretty solid cocktail menu. Their food menu is not huge but has your typical bar food go-tos. My friend got the fries and I got the fried dumplings. Not going to lie, I was pretty impressed with the quality of dumplings, given this isn't an Asian restaurant/bar. The dumplings were pretty crispy and had good flavor. In terms of cocktails, I got the spicy tequila one, which was great. The drink was spicy, not too sweet, and the perfect amount of strong. I've been having a hard time finding a spicy drink that's not coated in sugar or incredibly expensive, and this place did not disappoint! read more

Before seeing a show @ The Knitting Factory on Tuesday, my brother and I wanted to grab some dinner. When you come to this part of Williamsburg, it's extremely hard trying to decide which establishment you would want to sit and dine @. There are just so many restaurants that are quality and have interesting dishes. Me being vegetarian and my brother being a meat eater, we were playing tug of war with going to a BBQ place. I finally just did what I should have done in the first place. Utilized Yelp to find something with good options. We were parked right in front of Golden Years and it looked empty and really cute so I checked the reviews. Noticed that it just opened and had only 2 reviews. One review mentioned black truffle tater tots and we were both sold and entered! Very cute place. Old timey tin ceilings. Good sized bar. Interesting indie music playing. Found out through the bartender that it was a Spotify playlist. Lots of table and chair seating. DImly lit. Very friendly bartender who also served as our server. Sat wherever we wanted. You have to order at the bar. Not a huge menu but what they had made my mouth start to water just reading it. Started off with one of the most interesting and delicious cocktails that I've ever had. A Pummelo Spritz for $12. It was pretty large so you got your moneys worth! It consisted of Campari, grapefruit liqueur, fresh grapefruit and club soda. It looked so pretty when it came to the table. Tasted even better. I had two of them and could have kept drinking them all night!! Now to the food. Oh the food! Totally orgasmic food experience. We ordered 3 appetizers to split and then two entrees. For the appetizers we of course got the black truffle tater tots, mozzarella arancini and corn and crab hush puppies. Yeah, everything was fried but nothing was heavy, greasy and/or left a bad taste in our mouths. It was the lightest, most fluffiest fried food I've ever had. The tater tots were so creamy inside with enough black truffle flecks. Came with sour cream. The mozzarella rice balls were my favorite. The spicy sauce it came with was incredible! Sweet with a nice touch of spice. There were frizzled basil leaves in the sauce that were freaking amazing!! The mozzarella was fresh and endless inside. The hush puppies were light and airy. Kind of the consistency of a zeppole without all the grease. All we were doing was moaning and licking our lips eating these things. Like we were making love to our food! For my main course I had the fried artichoke salad and my brother had the fish tacos. My salad was so new, interesting and fresh. What wonderful flavor combinations the chef was concocting. Besides the lovely lightly fried artichoke hearts the salad consisted of fried basil, watercress, chili vinaigrette and herbs. Good sized portion. I tried my brothers fish taco and absolutely loved it. It was catfish, harissa mayo (delicious!!!!), pico, cabbage, radish + lime. This is really some of the best food I've ever had. Simple but freaking outrageously good! Found out the chef was female. Told the bartender to give kudos to her because she deserves it! Four 4 drinks, 3 appetizers and two main courses it was about $84. Not bad at all. Plus, the sweet bartender gave my brother a glass of wine on the house. Now THAT'S customer service! Wish they had dessert. Would have loved to come back here after the show for another cocktail and some sweets. Bathrooms are nice and clean. It's cash only but they do have a very interesting looking ATM. Not in a bad way though. Yeah, cash only can be annoying but for a new place to have to deal with the credit/debit card fee's the banks take from the bar/restaurant, you can't blame them for being cash only. I think it is their signature here so if you like fried chicken try that. 3 stars mean A-OK. The pluses above lifted this to the 3 stars. The burger was not good at all dropping this down to 3 stars. Due to a legitimate food allergy, I had to pass on my order. I offered to pay more for the inconvenience but she just rolled her eyes. The owner of this bar is a colossal asshole, and for that reason I can never come back here ever again. For the sake of fairness that will be the last vulgarity I use in this review update. I have been coming here for months, and everything in my prior review still holds true. The bartenders are awesome, the staff (owner not withstanding) is cool. Drinks are cheap, the food is good and reasonably priced. They play cool stuff on their projector, the tunes are good, and they were just starting a bring your own vinyl night which I think is a super fun idea. However, the owner is a narcissistic hot-head of the highest order. This place is cash only which is a pain on any day, and they have an ATM in the back which charges 2 bucks so I can pay my tab. Whatever. I went there today and was told that I can no longer run a tab for the night and need to pay for every round. That's totally unheard of around here and really annoying. I told the bartender as much and went to go get money out of the ATM as I currently had no cash on me.* Well, I guess the bar owner overheard me (I never asked to see him) and he came over to 'talk' to me. What proceeded is him arguing about his policy to me and telling me if I don't like it then I shouldn't come back. Ok dude, I won't. He told me he was losing 40% of his profits or something dumb like that. I dunno, maybe get a modern POS system and train your staff on it? I guess then you cant gouge on ATM fees and lie on your taxes. What sucks even more is I could tell how frustrated the staff were while this was going down. I didn't raise my voice or get angry, and for the record was completely sober for the ordeal. Must suck to work for a guy like that.
