There is no table service for food or the bar and the tables are first-come first-serve, so coming at busier hours is hit or miss. Food is generally good and well priced. They always seem to have their crispy catfish and fried chicken sandwich available and they are reliable staples. On my most recent visit I got buffalo wings with Japanese sweet potato and the potato was one of the best things I've eaten! Will continue to stop by when in the area. read more

Usually I am not one for a thick burger like this, so I was initially skeptical, but the burger was so flavorful and perfectly cooked - I can see why it was a staple on everyone's table! The Everything But the Wings was also fantastic, the Japanese Sweet Potato paired so nicely with the buffalo-like sauce. I've been here 3 times. Twice I've been unfortunate enough to have a female bartender who is always frowning and didn't speak actual words. She literally grunted. The first time I had to order from her she told us she was on her period!? What?! The last time was a busy day and packed but still just her. I am so freaking lucky to live half a block from this place and it's honestly a travesty that I don't frequent it more often. This is your quintessential neighborhood bar with GREAT food (and as a long time patron/cult member/adopted daughter of the Dutch House in Fair Lawn, NJ I *know* a great neighborhood bar with great food!) The burgers are top 5 in NYC easy, which is saying a lot when you consider that Gnarly Eats and Dram Shop alone are within a ten block radius. The French fries are also awesome - salty, skinny, and the perfect amount of crispy. In case my superlatives hadn't convinced you, this is the meal I chose when Dad was paying, the night before colorectal surgery (TMI?) Seriously, it's a great burger and fries. They have a great beer selection, solid wines in cans (maybe the one thing I would change if pressed) and bartenders who make EXCELLENT cocktails - dirty martinis in particular. The staff, from the bartenders to the folks taking orders and cooking at the food window are all incredibly nice and super speedy. We had a group which was hard to do - we nominated one person to place the order (and naturally that was annoying for questions like "what side?" And "how do you want your burger done!"). We were unsure of the seating situation when we walked up, and after finding a worker were told to grab a table wherever (fyi they have common seating, in case you're not into that). There are tables both indoor and out on the sidewalk. Once you pick your table, you go up to the bar for drinks, and a small window in the back to order your food. They give you a table number to display at your seat, and then bring your food out. It's not a full service restaurant. The food was good but nothing really special. My husband got a burger, and I think I got the chicken sand. I'd return, if we had something going on over that way. I kind of like that style as it reminds me of England Pubs and also gives me the pleasure of leaving when I am done without having to wait on a server. Only nit is the wine in a can. What do you think of when someone says Park Slope? Parents and strollers? The Double Windsor is an unpretentious neighborhood bar that happily welcomes anyone who walks through their doors, old or young. (In fact, it wasn't even unusual to spy a kid or two in the bar during Before Covid times of normalcy.) When I lived a few blocks down from the Double Windsor, my roommates would often grab an order of chicken wings or a burger for a quick and easy dinner. And after I moved away, we'd catch up for drinks over garlic aioli french fries. They definitely do not skimp on the fries here, so you'll get your money's worth. These days, the bartenders probably aren't slinging too many drinks. Until then, the Double Windsor serves up plenty of delicious pub food. (I'm still upset that I didn't order the tantalizing buttermilk fried chicken sandwich when I lived within walking distance, but I guess that just means I have to order it as a toast to After Covid times in the near future... with a gin and tonic, of course.) Here's the deal, if you go to The Double Windsor expecting restaurant-like service, then you already setting yourself up for a bad experience, and a bad review to boot. The Double Windsor is a pub first, a place to grab a bite second. You don't go to a dive bar, grab a hand full of pretzels and then give a bad review because the pretzels were stale right? Well, I'm seeing a lot of reviews here knocking the food, but again, what do you expect, it's a pub with food options as a plus. Anyway, I'm not here to complain about the food obviously. The food was just fine. My gripe is with the service, in particular the bartender. After we grabbed a seat outside on a nice sunny day, I ordered my food at the food counter window and then waited at the bar to get two beers. It was a Sunday, so a more relaxed affair, but I swear the bartending was either on something, hadn't gotten enough sleep, doesn't care about newer customers, or all of the above. I waited for him to make his rounds, for a decently occupied bar, for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes I started to get a little frustrated, so I gave the classic thousand-yard stare, that I'm sure all bartenders are aware of. He headed in my direction and asked me what I wanted. I then gave my order to him nicely and waited another 10 minutes or so. Now it's been 20 minutes, and my girlfriend had already gotten her food outside and was waiting for me to eat. So I kind of walked around to where the bartending was talking to the regulars, and I kindly asked if my beers were ready. The poor guy forgot my order, so I told him again, and at that point just stared him down until the beer was poured out of the spouts. Then he gave me one correct beer, and the second beer was someone else's order. At this point, I kind of gave up, I just took the one beer and gave it to my girlfriend, and I had a water instead. To the Double Windsor crew, I'm not sure who your Sunday bartender is, but I'm here to say waiting 20 mins for two beers is not ideal. Double Window is still a great spot, just make sure to get the bartender's attention, if that's even possible. read more

It has a nice selection of beers, mixing in a fair amount of local options, and it hits all the high points of bar food. I enjoyed a nitro stout and an IPA to drink, both excellent beers. I also snacked on the salty French Fries and decent Fried Cheese Curds. The burger also looked great, but I just did not have the appetite for it. Quantity: Solid pours of beer and the fried snacks were good to share. Value: $8-$9 for a Draft Beer. $7 for French Fries. $10 for Fried Cheese Curds. Ambiance: The Double Windsor is a pub located in Park Slope near the bottom of Prospect Park. The bar has all the essentials, a few televisions, plenty of seating, and a busy kitchen. Beer selection is pretty good. And the food is also pretty decent. However, We had been coming here for years and after recently having a baby decided to make the trip for a beer and some mussels. To our surprise, we were told upon entry that even though our stroller fully collapses to the size of a briefcase, we couldn't bring it in and it was raining out so eating outside with our baby was not a viable option. They informed us that they have a "No Stroller" policy which I can understand to some degree but have real issues with if your stroller completely folds down and is comparable in size to a large backpack. We will no longer be supporting Double Windsor. We do, however, love Krupa which is right across the street! Not only was it stroller friendly but the food and drink was off the charts! read more

This place was awesome. I sat at the bar and walked up to the counter to order food, which was great. There were so many good options but I tried the lamb Ragu, the braised greens, the fried chicken sandwich, and the fried sishito peppers. My favorites were the lamb and the chicken. The lamb Ragu had big chunks of lamb in it and the chicken was really crispy. The greens had a smoky flavor and were really well cooked. The sishito peppers were good, I think they would've been better with a cheese stuffing but they were still good on their own. Their beer selection is also pretty awesome and all reasonably priced.
