What a cute bar that has been around for 17 years and just yesterday I stepped foot into it for my first time. It was the 17th Anniversary party yesterday as well. They had a bunch of collabs with other breweries so their taps were filled with wonderful selection of cool beers. I got here when it opened grabbed a seat at the bar. I didn't catch her name but the bartender was super nice and we chatted a bit. This bar has two tvs in the bar area and some tables in the back. It also has an outdoor area which I did not get to check out unfortunately. The only downside is, is that there is no food served here. But the upside is that you can get free Pop-corn! If you have not been here before, I would suggest stopping by. By the way whoever does their social media is super great! read more

I've stopped by the 4tg Ave Pub a few times now, and it has yet to let me down! It's a spacious spot with a nice backyard area, and has a lot of fun memorabilia around. But the reason I keep coming back - the sheer selection of incredible and unique beers (and reasonably priced for that manner!). Everything from the desthil spicy sour pickle beer to many variations to le chouffe, you can't go wrong! Oh and they have free popcorn as well... tough to pass up! Service has always been friendly and knowledgeable about the beers. I can already see myself back there for the next time I'm craving some delicious craft beer! read more

This bar was crowded on a Tuesday night. I dropped by here a little after 8pm. All the tables were taken and the bar was filled with people. I can see why the reviewers gave this place high ratings. There were all different kind of beers on display. The selling point of this bar is the quaint backyard. Moreover, it's located near the Atlantic Terminal train station. Very quaint, old-school New York bar, long and skinny, with a variety of seating options, and decor that clearly manifested over a long period of time. Draft list is impressive and the cellar selections will satisfy anyone with a penchant for Belgian ale. I started with an Oude Geuze Boon lambic. Later, a bottle of Cuvée des Jacobins Rouge. In addition to kick-ass beer choices, the full bar includes many whiskeys. I sipped a High West double rye; oh, who am I kidding, I tossed it back like a shot, and loved it. Great choice for a drink before an event nearby. There are also plenty of locals and regulars so don't act all entitled up in here. A bar with this much class deserves some respect. read more

All hell broke loose when tropical storm Ida swept over NYC. Hundreds of us were forced to disembark the trains at Atlantic due to the surging flood waters, and there was nary a cab in sight. Stranded, I do what I was always do when faced with setbacks: I sought out a pint. My search brought me here, to 4th Avenue pub, where I arrived soaking wet, alone, and afraid. But I had nothing to fear. This pub gave me a roof over my head, delicious beer, and friendly conversation. I'm an avid popcorn lover and it's free! Free! Free! At this pub! It's super cool and casual atmosphere, it seems small when you enter but has a lot of space sm seating on the inside as well as additional seating to the back on the outside. There's a bay seasoning that you can add to your popcorn for a bit of diff flavoring. Music is at the right level where you can carry on a conversation without shouting. And there is a wide selection of beer and varying alcoholic beverages . This is definitely a place to hang out at and it's in one of my favorite neighborhoods. Will be back. read more

Ordinarily this is one of my favorite bars in Brooklyn. Great beer selection, lots of friendly regulars, and reasonable prices. This would be a 5 star review, if not for a recent encounter with a bartender named Matt. I was visiting the pub with several friends from out of town. Matt asked where they were from (Texas) and he immediately started lecturing them for living in "a racist State". One of my friends is a woman of color, and he even had the audacity to tell her she "should be ashamed of herself" for choosing to live there. At one point he wrote the "N" word on a napkin and put it in front of her. Presumably he was making a point about Texas and not calling her this horrific name, but his judgment and behavior was wildly inappropriate. In sum, great bar, filled with tolerate and friendly customers and staff. But if Matt is working I highly recommend you leave immediately. read more

Went tonight and the cocktail was fine, but the bartender was the only bartender I've ever met who seemed to hate everyone who comes to bars. A woman sat at the bar alone and when he finally asked what he could get for her she said "I've never been here - what should I have?" And he said "the menu is on the wall. I'm not gonna list every beer." She said, "I can't really see that" (it was dark- letters are small) and he said, "yeah well if you want something you're gonna have to read." So I- another customer- helped her figure out what to order. Later he got in a verbal fight with another customer and threatened to punch him. I'm proud to say that my first drink to christen the new neighborhood was here at the 4th Avenue Pub (though it's really not in my neighborhood since it's like an 18 minute way). This is a great place and is greater in the warm weather. The crowd is hipstery but down to earth and chill - which is obvious by the many many dogs chilling in the outdoor "garden" space in the nice weather. Did I mention the sangria. A+. read more

4th Ave Pub is a deceptively good beer bar. It looks like a random ass bar from the outside; walking in, at a glance they have some decent draft options but the place is a little run down. However look closer at the tap list and the bottle menu, and you'll start to like the place more. The tap list is full of worthwhile options, while the bottle list has some gems if you look hard. I got Fullers 1809 old ale for like $9 for a bottle. That's a steal at a beer store, let alone a bar. After a few beers, the place becomes a bit more charming. Bartenders are very good and they don't let beer just sit around like some places. There is a small backyard area too, not to mention free popcorn. I wouldn't rank this above St. Gambrinus nearby, but this is a good #2 option for this area. read more

Props to the bartender-ess. Came here on a vfriday evening for a friends work happy hour. There ended up being 20 of us in the party, and probably another handful of people in the bar. They do not have pickle juice, which was my biggest turn off, no rounds of pickle backs for us. Bartender was so kind and handled the large group well! They have an adorable low key back patio area with lights and picnic tables. I was genuinely surprised They only staffed one person for a Friday night but I guess I don't know the area. This pub features a great beer selection which gets periodically updated. Some beers get removed from the menu and some get added on, which can be a blessing and a curse. Personally, it was sad to see one of my faves, 'A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, no longer being offered the last couple of times I was here. Decent in terms of prices, even with the top quality draft beers. Complementary popcorn which you can season to your liking. I have seen people order pizza from the outside. Outside seating area. Perfect for enjoying your beer while having a smoke. Despite the 'No-Smoking' sign, everyone's lighting up. Finally, a very nice, sophisticated crowd. I had a total blast. A heapin list of beer to drink but for me 2 shots of patron and a glass of champagne and I was good to go. Plenty of space for me and my friends to be silly. I've been a regular at this bar for 7 long years. I got engaged here! It was my favorite bar for quite some time. There used to be a bartender here named Lucas, who was fantastic. I'd walk in, and he'd say "Hey Lisa! Hefeweizen!" and it felt like I was on the set of Cheers, where they knew my name, and my drink. Actually, there used to be many fantastic bartenders. Not so much anymore. I'm not a fan of the bartenders working here these days. I came here for my birthday, ordered 6 beers for myself, and didn't get a single buy-back. That's not the 4th Ave. Pub I used to know. Sure the free Old Bay popcorn is great, and the crowd isn't downright obnoxious (which is saying a lot for the area), but tons of bars offer free popcorn these days, and I really miss the old bartenders, and the old feel of the bar. There is one remaining bartender that I adore, so I'll be coming back the nights he works. But aside from that, I miss the place that used to be my go-to joint, any night of the week, where 4 beers got you a buy-back, and free rounds of shots on occasion wasn't taboo. read more

Heard great things about this bar from my friend, but I think they were a little off their game last night. Stopped in for a beer before sushi. They do have an extensive beer list, but the chalkboard wasn't updated and they were out of some brews which caught my eye. Bartender was helpful and gave us samples. I finally settled for a Bear Republic Nor' Cal after sampling a few. Good ale. The bar is dark and gloomy inside, so we opted for the lovely courtyard out back and took advantage of the great weather. Good enough to stop by on a pub crawl because of their selection. 3.5 stars... The reason this place has such impressive ratings is because of their relatively wide selection of craft brews on tap and bottles. That and the free popcorn (apply your own salt and/or Old Bay), and back patio. For me I care more about my calorie intake and budget so although a tasty craft brew is nice from time to time, a $3 Miller Light would make me more satisfied. Drafts start at $6. There's one $5 draft (Woodchuck Cider) or so I thought until the bartender charged me $6 for it and I didn't feel like bringing up the possible typo in their menu. Their backyard has ridiculously high concrete walls and a complete tree covering so it feels a little dark and cave like but I'm happy with any place that has a decent sized yard with lots of tables (in this case picnic tables). Overall as someone not concerned with finding a place with lots of craft brews I wasn't wowed by this place but should I want to go out with a beer connoisseur I'll certainly know a decent place to take them. read more

It's a little campy--but in a quiet little bar way--the lights are low, and there are movies playing in the background--and the bathroom has a chalkboard and chalk for your finest thoughts. The bathroom, by the way, was clean. I arrived early for a date, and the pub was pretty empty, but by 6:30 it was starting to fill up with the post-work crowd. We still had no problem getting a small table, and when I went back for a second round, the bartender immediately acknowledged me with a, "Be with you a minute," even though the bar was full. I'm not a beer drinker, but my cocktail was made well, and was DIRT CHEAP, Y'ALL. A round of drinks for two for ten bucks is nothing to turn up your nose at, especially when the drinks are strong, cold, and immediate. I wish the music had been a little more quiet, because the other patrons were more loud to compensate, but it's a small complaint. I'm definitely taking 4th Avenue Pub on a second date. read more

Stopped in here with friends I was visiting after they were shocked to discover that the St. Gambrinus a few blocks away had suddenly shut its doors. All I can say is they found a good backup - very good selection of beers (lagers, IPAs, the works) which apparently changes regularly. Bartender seemed knowledgable. Definitely doesn't have a "jock" sports vibe despite being so close to the Barclay's Center. Have to stop short of 5 stars simply because the neighborhood seems very seedy and run-down. Gritty on the outside and dark on the inside, 4th Ave Pub may be a little off the beaten path but is oh so chill and fun. Inside sweet beer smells seep from the picnic style tables. It's dark cool and laid back. Free popcorn compliment their vast beer selection and you can even bring your doggie to their outdoor patio. New Favorite Bar. NFB. There are plenty of reasons to give this bar 3 stars. I can see it getting cramped in the front by the actual bar, but there is a decent amount of space and seating in the back, for conversation, for life, for living, for drinking, for eating, for conversation, for life, etc. Here's why five star status: Chalkboard bathrooms. I wrote, "2 girls, 1 cup, 4000 hilarious reactions". A really solid list of beers on draft and bottled, lots of full bodied ales that really kick my ass, from Pleasantville to Belgium. Terrific music, and that's coming from the owner's iPod. Easygoing style, you pull up a stool, awkwardly crane your neck to one of the two tvs perched high above the bar, and watch in silence. Happy hour is 2 dollars off everything, which means you should try their more expensive beers while still saving money for the kids. A Specials song was playing, and I was wearing a Specials shirt. Which was kind of awkward I guess. Here was my experience which led me to five stars though: the bartender, a lovely woman Nicole, she didn't want to DJ, too modest of course. I suggested she put in my iPod, I set it to a mix I made a few weeks ago. The place was digging it (there was dancing, to the Pipettes of course), but I had a Braid song thrown in there, and this dude who ends up wanting to jam, he's like, I haven't heard a Braid song in a bar, much less in the past 5 years anyway. And we will raise goblets of rock. This is musical bonding. What bar would actually let you just put your iPod on? What chops, what balls, what fervor. Best thing is, the place is right off the Atlantic-Pacific stop. ANYONE can get here. Anyone. And it's next door to Pacific Standard, another proud bar of beers. read more

AVOID at all costs. The worst bar in all of Brooklyn. Rude staff who smoke cigarettes behind the bar during business hours and when customers complain, they take your beers away and kick you out. I saw cockroaches on the popcorn too. There are tons of other places to drink in the neighborhood. Don't waste your time or money. read more
