"Right On" I rarely take the time to review a spot unless I feel absolutely necessary. Lunatico is a place that has been on my list for awhile. Immediately upon entering, one of the servers said it was standing room only by the door or by the stage. That was not a problem, but then she immediately proceeded to question our ability to provide patronage, asking if we had a card to validate us occupying the space. The vibe was off. After explaining to the owner/singer that we felt unwelcomed upon entering his establishment he said "right on" and it's busy on Saturdays. The joint is packed and buzzing with a wall length bar, live music in the back. We're specifically here to see our dear friend, Frank LoCrasto and his way cool band XOTICA. They are fantastic and fabulous! LunÀtico was founded by musicians with an aim of combining sophisticated cocktails with a funky music scene, whilst encouraging patrons to support artists through donations. Here, one can enjoy a wide range of music, like jazz, rock, punk, house, calypso, reggae, folk, pop, indie, samba, etc. on a nightly basis. Finally made it to LunÀtico for the first time last night and it certainly won't be my last time. We came for the 10:15 set of the band they had playing. We heard you should come early so we got there at 9:15. The inside was completely full at that time so we joined the short line outside. They already let you order drinks on the sidewalk and it was mild night so the wait was actually quite pleasant and gave me and my friend time to catch up before the music started. We got seated right around 10:15 and the band came on at 10:45. The Binky Griptite Orchestra put on a very fun show! They're regulars at LunÀtico so I definitely recommend seeing them if you haven't already. I tried the liquid love and paris texas cocktails, both were delicious. We also had the muhammara which was yum but a lot smoother in texture than I expected. All in all a very fun and unique Saturday night. Highly recommend! read more

Came on a Monday night. They had 2 sets 9pm and 1030pm. We arrived around 915 and able to grab a seat. Very close and intimate setting. Cocktails were very good although I cannot recall wha we order. This review is not accounting for the jazz, since I was here earlier than when the live music came on. It's an intimate, narrow space with two-seater tables lined up against the wall directly across from the bar counter, including some outdoor seating. At 6pm, it's relatively empty and we have a few people doing some work on laptops (which tells you the relative soft conversations happening here, rather than the loud boisterous energy at this time). You will be jammed in there next to lots of other people, but I promise you it will be great. Unless a particular experience exudes a fundamental flaw, I refuse to see establishments in negative light. As such, Bar Lunatico ought to accept my 1* review as a badge of honor. Twice now I've come, the first instance of which I arrived gleefully and left disappointed in staff disorganization and miscommunication. Thinking it was simply poor luck, I returned with an open mind only to leave profoundly disappointed. The host this Friday night was flustered, disorganized, and trigger happy; their disorganization suffused the crowd waiting outside. The inside space was overly packed, surely beyond code, and despite the AC ostensibly on I found myself dripping in continuous sweat on a 75* late evening, *inside*. For reference, I got there 30 minutes before doors opened. I will not return again unless staff management changes, truly a pity. read more

Incredible nonalcoholic take on a Negroni, mouth-watering cheese platter. Had an amazing time in this moody, eclectic space while enjoying Brazilian jazz. My only note is that I wish the space was cleared out faster between shows so we could be out of the cold without having to wait for everyone to slowly leave, then have their tables cleaned. I would definitely come here again I had a great time. I went on a Tuesday night at 7:45pm and was sat at a table right away. WARNING: if you are coming right at performance time you may not get a table. When I left around 10pm there was a massive line outside even on a Tuesday Great vibe for a date night but I will say the music + crowd of people create an **extremely** loud environment (before the jazz performances start). I could not hear the person sitting across from me at all so they had to sit next to me on the booth (aka not good for a first date if you are nervous/ not having easy conversation). Really intimate space for a night out and guess what.. they even have live music! It's quite small so can get crowded especially with a large group. Be sure to come early to grab one of their coveted outdoor tables or one of the tables inside as it's pretty narrow. Not your standard tapas menu but they still got nice options to share. Not the most expansive menu and portions are a little small but great if you take your time with a bottle of wine or chatting. We enjoyed the sourdough bread, hummus, marinated nuts, a salad, and protein. They seem to change up their menu so be sure to check out the latest and greatest if you're coming for a specific menu item. Went here on a Thursday night to enjoy some live music. I was not disappointed! The place itself is quite cozy but after waiting a few minutes, the hostess was able to seat us at the bar. I can't speak to the quality of the food, since all we ordered were drinks but I was impressed with the craftsmanship, flavor, and value of the cocktail menu. I've gotten too used to paying Manhattan prices for a cocktail ($25 a pop) and these prices seem more anchored to reality. Overall i was able to try 4 different drinks: the creole moon, golden city, conversation piece, and johann in Jalisco. Creole moon was my favorite, with conversation piece being my runner up. The spice/clove in creole moon is very strong so if you like drinks with a heavy spice flavor, this would be a good choice for you. Conversation piece opens with a sharp, fresh note, I can't describe what, but then rounds out with the creaminess of the foam. For the other 2 drinks, they weren't bad but I didn't notice anything special about them. I think there could have been some added garnish to them to make them more visually appealing. I really enjoyed the live music, and I think a majority of the people who came out were here to listen to good music. This is a great place to unwind and listen to live music during the week. Looking forward to trying more of the drinks on the menu next time I come. read more

The restaurant has a cute romantic feel to it. There is live music nightly. This place gets packed pretty quickly. If you're not there early enough you'll be placed in standing room, where you can order drinks until a table or bar space become available. The standing room is actually just small corner of the restaurant. You don't want to stand there for long. But eventually we were able to get a table and order food. Ordered the roasted chicken which was really good. The food menu isn't extensive but you can find something on there that you'll like. I would recommend and return but keep in mind to get there before 8:30. They do collect tips for the band so bring cash for that. read more

A true hidden gem! We came here at the advice of a friend and had the best evening! We arrived 90 minutes before the live music was set to start and got great seats at the end of the bar with a clear view of the stage. Between drinks and coursing out our meal we were eating and drinking right up to the end of the bands first set. The cocktails were delicious and the service was top notch. We also enjoyed the hummus appetizer. Highly recommend the lamb Kafta. The mushroom leek polenta dish was also quite nice for such a cold night. We split the date cake and rice pudding desserts. Somewhat ridiculous for that price. I get that this is to support maximum capacity and turnover for the musicians. But it has made the experience for some regulars no longer worth the effort. I came here just for the happy hour, but I would like to return for lunch. Bewarned that it does get loud at dinner since they have a live band playing, and they request a $10 addition for each table for the band- very reasonable. They have a back patio too and I would maybe check that out for dinner since it might be a little more quiet there. The happy hour is wonderful! I came during daiquiri week and they had $6 daiquiris and margaritas going. Both were really refreshing and well prepared and mixed. I would say the marg is a little sweeter than I would like but thats an easy solve with the bartender. Dinner is more tapas style - you don't actually get tapas but they have smaller plates. I loved the charcuterie board. The space is a narrow one and they have little patio tables for 2 people, with a couple of larger tables in the window that are for about 5-6 people. The window seating is the nicest, reminds me of little cafes in England and smaller towns. Where has this place been all my life? The place just feels like a hip European downtown, where you can walk into any small joint and there's amazing music playing. Unfortunately, there aren't that many places like this in NYC outside of the West Village. If I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it reminded me of Barbès. Narrow but long bar, almost totally full (thankfully, we were able to snag two bar seats), very loud brass band playing (Bone Apple Tea!) I honestly didn't expect the cocktails to be as good as they were. I had a delicious Perfect Strangers (tequila, chile amargo, mole bitters, and other things). Highly recommended, especially with the crushed cocoa nibs floating on top. For a change of speed, the Cubano negroni (with rum and cold brew) will wake up every single one of your senses! Very very good. Their liquor selection is very good. I'm always impressed when I see a bottle of Brennivin on a shelf in NYC. Horrible, delicious, but horrible Brennivin. Our server was amazing. We stuck around after the music was done, and the place cleared out so there was definitely more breathing room. Stayed til last call. Live music bars are dime a dozen in New York City and when you think of the best ones you automatically think it has to be in The Village or Tribeca. So when my friend invited me out to Brooklyn for a "live music bar" I did not know what I was signing up for. Walking up to it, it does give off the vibe of a place you wouldn't revisit, so why visit it the first time, right? The maître d had a French accent and the staff welcomes you with a very intimate vibe. Something you didn't know you missed in Manhattan until you go here. We ordered drinks and dinner and continued our conversations. The restaurant was well lit and the ambiance gave a sense of upbeat and fun. The music was yet to start in another hour so we had plenty of time to kill with our conversations. Hummus might be a New York staple dip. Almost every place that can have it, has it on their menu. And needless to say, I think I've gotten it every place that has to offer it. Here, however, there's a house spice they put in it, that is unavailable everywhere else I've tried. It is the best I've ever had. Braised short rib was perfectly cooked and delicious as well. Now, I'm a gin fanatic. I've had many Gin drinks from some from world's top ranked gin distilleries. This is only to say that all my taste buds were immediately a fan of their "Mrs Robinson". A simple, cocktail of gin, honey, and lemon. An artist once said, I don't do new things, I just do the same things a little differently. LunÀtico changed regular gin with rishi earl grey tea-infused monopolowa gin. And I have to tell you, you NEED to try this drink. Of course, now you can try it in the comfort of your apartment but then you would be missing out of the beautiful live music, the incredible decor that accentuates the beauty of being in another country. They have a million cocktails here with all sorts of ingredients I can't pronounce or identify that are delicious, as well as a bunch of wines and beers and even cider. But really, as long as you're here, get a cocktail or at least an agave something. They have food too but the real star is the music. And the cocktails. Great service, open for indoor vaccinated people, bring your card or app or whatever. They also have two chairs and one table outside. Gender neutral bathroom in the back. Bring a phone to view the menu (there's wifi) but cash to tip the musicians. I'd read up a lot about LunÀtico from their website and knew it would be a fun spot but I must admit it's a bit out of the way for me so took me a while to give it a go. They feature live music every single night of the week and it's co-owned by three former musicians, which is just to say that the artist's craft is the center of attention here, which I love. I went for a Sunday 9 pm set and my advice is to go early because I got there a few minutes to 9 and there were no seats for a party of one! Didn't have to wait more than 5-10 minutes before something opened up though, so I'm lucky I was able to squeeze in. It's a very intimate setting with some low wicker stools closer up by the stage. Cocktails were also great. I tried the still floating followed by the perfect strangers, per the waitress' recommendation and both were 10/10. The still floating is a citrusy gin gimlet-esque cocktail that was good to start but a tad sweet. The perfect strangers, on the other hand, contains fernet (my favorite) so was less sweet and I think I'd come back just for this cocktail haha. We arrived shortly after 4pm and ordered from the Brunch Menu our wait staff was warm and super friendly. The back yard was packed so we sat inside near the bar, our waitress quickly took our orders. We both wanted shrimp and grits just to be told that shrimp and grits is only available on Sundays?!? Okay....I ordered an egg sandwich on a croissant and my friend ordered pancakes. The presentation of the food on the plate was spectacular, however the taste was painfully bland. My Rosé was citrus but not strong, but the stemware glass was totally sexy. Again this location is high on presentation and good vibes. The Brunch menu is limited. This location has been an conversation piece amongst locals for the live performances, I live on the block so when I walk past, the live music is so inviting, however there were no performances scheduled at brunch and it left this place just another bar in Bed Stuy, no bells, no whistles. Best live music in all of New York City. Good food (small portions though). Decent drinks. Good crowd. Worst disorganized rude customer service, even on a less busy night. I made the decision to dine here based on the location of the seating. After we were seated by the waitress, we were forced by the manager to move and sit with strangers, in the front row right next to the drums. Meal came, and no silverware or napkins were given. I asked the waitress to tip the band on my tab and let the band know, and she didn't let them know. My waitress had no clue what she was doing. The manager was extremely rude when I tried to express my concerns, and at one point called me a liar. The owner was nice, explained the reasoning, yet was unapologetic about my experience. I understand why the poor experience, and maybe it was just poor communication. But the cluelessness by the waitress, and the rudeness by the manager are not acceptable. If you can put up with their poor service, then come here for the band, the food, and the drinks. read more
