Doris is THE bar to hang out at when in BedStuy. I'd even say it's a bar worth traveling out here for. It's got a cool vibe with disco ball, live DJ, and candles. My friend and I ordered the Hot Nite in Dallas ($15) and Sun on the Run ($15). The cocktails are good and affordable --love that they got a great happy hour deal from 5-7pm as well. I really enjoyed the Sun in the Run cocktail with the ginger flavor that we both ordered another round of this. There is also a nice backyard to hang out as well. They even provided blankets for those chilly nights. The stairs outdoors also lead you down to the restrooms. There are multiple individual stalls and also a door leading back to the inside as well. This is the kind of spot that the cool girl hangs out at --effortless and unpretentious like Manhattan. Last but not least, huge respect for me forgetting my purse at the bar here but was returned to me with nothing missing, including my cash. That just tells you the type of clientele that hangs out here. I did have to return in person the next day to retrieve my purse as they never answered their phone nor email, but thankfully they did have it. read more

Came here for Texas Tuesday when they have a DJ playing classic country music on vinyl every 3rd Tues of the month starting at 8pm. The bar is very small and easy to miss from the outside, so make note of the address. They had beer specials such as $4 Tecate cans. The music was great. It looks like an upscale bar on the inside but reasonable dive bar prices. The service was excellent and bartenders were very friendly. I hope to go back every time I have a chance for Texas Tuesdays. Wish they had it every week. read more

It's a cool listening spot and you get a very local feel even though this is a cocktail spot as opposed to a dive. I loved my drinks and the service was fast and efficient. I used to live a block away from this bar and hung out here a few times. Now I've realized i had taken it for granted and wish there was somewhere like this in my new neighborhood. I had a great time here with a group of friends. I didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space since it was all taken on a summer night but the indoor space had a great ambiance as well. The decor is cute and transports me to a desert bar. Loved the cocktails they had on the menu as well. I don't recall what I had but it had candied ginger in the drink and I could eat that up all night! This place is a nice ambiance but the reason I'd never come back is because of the horrible went mean customer service I experienced. I feel like it was because my cousin and I were young and black and not the average customer. The older white bartender was extremely rude. He told us it was margarita Monday for $10. I asked what kind of margaritas they had and his exact words were "what do you mean? Regular margaritas. You can go down to Applebee's and get whatever flavors you want." (While rolling his eyes). My cousin and I were thrown off and didn't understand why he couldn't just say they had standard margaritas. Then after I ordered my drink and came back to ask if they could put something in the drink to make it more sweet because it was bitter, he gave me so much attitude saying things like "well yeah you ordered a bitter drink" even after I told him I had no idea it was bitter based on the name and what was in it (Sunset on the rocks). But yeah nothing about my experience was pleasant. I bought two drinks, tipped and walked away feeling like I wasn't welcome in the space. I wouldn't recommend young black professionals going here unless you want to be tested like a nuisance and not a respectful customer (which I strive to be). read more

Came here for a first date since I've been wanting to try this bar since I moved to the neighborhood! Brought a dog, and they don't let dogs inside or on the back patio, but they do in the front patio. The bouncer was so sweet, playing with my dog, and being super kind to me. The inside is a cute, cozy bar, and the bartenders are sweet and attentive. The drinks were also delicious. Big fan of this place - inside is filled with oddly shaped wooden booths and tables, plants, records and moody lighting. The bathroom door opens up to pink lighting as if you're entering another universe. Outside in the back it's light and bright and fun, with folks sharing communal tables and standing around with tasty drinks. They love their tequila and mezcal here but if you aren't into that they'll gladly give you something more up your alley and they've got some good wine options and a wide variety of beer/shot combos. Beautiful southwestern decor inside but crowded as hell starting at about 8pm. Also just constantly super loud music. Decent happy hour well-drinks even on weekends ($5 for a gin and soda) and bartenders were pretty attentive. Beware of the backyard, though. I went on a summer July night and it was absolutely infested with flying ants. The bench at the back of the yard was literally crawling with them. We immediately went inside but walked into a swarm before reaching the door. Others in the back followed. The ivy wall on the left side also is constantly "raining" little seedlings or something? This is a PSA that Doris closes their fun back yard at 11:30pm on Friday with ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. And they do it very rudely So go and have fun- and plan to be finishing your drinks around 11:30 so you can clear out. At 11:30 they come and yell that you need to leave and are very forceful and then the whole yard is crammed into the bar where everyone can't possibly fit. If they had even given a 15 min warning, we would have known to not get another round. You can't give ZERO warning and then demand everyone clear out in under a min, especially because the indoor bar can not accommodate that amount of guests. I was having fun until this happened. Doris has a chill vibe and the cocktail list has $11 options- which feels like the low end these days. I give three stars for all of that, but I mostly want to warn about the backyard situation. The rude behavior of the staff and having to be smushed like a sardine with a full drink can really ruin the night. read more

Doris NY BK Clinton Hill 9pm Saturday 20th August 2016 Four Stars Doris is a cool Brooklyn bar with reaps able priced drinks. Draft Beers are $5 or $7. Cocktails are in the $10 range. They also serve a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches: Classic, Provolone, Pimento, Green Machine, and Delicate. The food is cash only but the bar accepts credit cards with an ID for an open tab. The garden is open until 10:30 during the week and 11:30 on Friday and Saturday. The early hours are because the bar is located in a residential complex. I am sure they get in trouble for the noise, smoking, and disorderly conduct. There are no smoking signs but there are ash trays on the patio furniture outside. 3.5 stars. I found this place by chance after dinner in Clinton Hill. It's a friendly and funky spot with New Mexico decor and rock and roll blasting. They have a patio in the back. I tasted their Bells Two Hearted IPA: solid draft. The service was professional. The bartender knew what he was doing and was very efficient, considering the crowd. I'd totally go back. read more

I love this place! Like other yelpers mentioned, the patio out back is the best area. I had the fez cocktail, which sounded appealing with tequila, chocolate bitters, orange zest and a sugar cube. It was pretty good but very strong! My girlfriend finished it for me! Switched over to a vodka 'lemonade' (they don't have lemonade but will concoct lemon and lime juice and water) which was very good. The inside is super cute and photo-worthy. The bar is big so theres a lot of comfortable seating at the bar and in booths and chairs surrounding. This is an awesome place to come with a group. Looking forward to coming back to Doris to try the grilled cheese! read more

Used to like this place. Liked the vibe and the outdoor area. Had a decent beer selection and it's a neighborhood kind of bar. I am never coming back. One of the last times I was there, we were playing ping-pong in the back when a bunch of rats interrupted our game. That didn't stop me from returning. The other night , I was there with one friend waiting for another friend . It wasn't empty but it wasn't crowded either two tables or so we're empty inside and there a good amount of people milling around the backyard .. prob about 30 or so. My friend arrived when the bouncer told her that they were at capacity . He then proceeded to be incredibly rude to her and said she had to wait in line while he let in other people. So we decided to leave since she wasn't being let in. I had opened a tab at the bar intending on a few rounds but given the change in circumstance I went o close out. The bartender rudely told me that bc it was. $20 min I should get money out of the atm. I tried to tell him I was closing out bc of the bouncers attitude to my friend to which I got a blank stare and instructed to go to the atm . Ridiculous. First 9f all.. these kinds of minimums aren't actually even legal although common in practice. I just wanted to leave so I got cash and then closed out. Honestly there are so many other chill bars in the immediate area with less obnoxious staff. I will never come back here again. And the three things I just mentioned - the rats, the bartenders and the asinine bar tab min, and the bouncers rude attitude is why three stars are knocked off. So if you want to act bougie in bedstuy Brooklyn with some not cheap beers and terrible attitude with a side of trash rats , enjoy . Terrible bar in the neighborhood. read more

On the outside, I must say, VERY unassuming - as many places here in NYC are to me. But don't judge this book by its cover. This hidden little gem is happening! once that tired outermost white layer of a doorway opens to swallow you up - welcoming your weary behinds to its innermost bliss :) And OH MY GOODNESS, when you step up in there is it what's up, or what?! Answer: It is in fact, what is up! DJ is AMAZING! He was playing some old school and new school hip hop, funk, the whole nine - I felt like my parents were DJ-ing and that is a compliment because both my parents have AMAZING taste in music - I mean, its where I get it from :) Bartenders can mix the hell out of a drink. People are gorgeous and sweet and just trying to have a good time - loves it! Very chill. Very low key. Very BK. Very me :) Can't say more... just go. Doris... what can I say about you? Well, your bartenders are usually very good at making drinks, which is most of the point. You have more than ample bathrooms, which is a bonus. And I have almost always been able to find a seat, even on a busy night, which is great because I am generally very annoyed (definitely more than I should be) at having to stand at a bar. I started this review by assigning 3 stars to Doris. But now that I've said all of that, I'm going to raise my review to 4 stars. Because they also have good outdoor space. And, more importantly, I like to think of myself as a fair person. read more
