Closing would be real improvement So after posting this review I learned that this place does not have table service but it has tables, so everyone across race class and religion is required to pay in advance or create a tab. MY BAD I also learned that this is pretty common in BK, so don't don't take it person: skin color isn't causing magical thinking. Inside the place looked like a down home "juke joint" or a scene from Erykah Badu "On and On" video. I've been on the lookout for COVID-safe bars, and The Great Georgiana certainly fit the bill. The tented outdoor seating area has heated lamps so you can huddle in your winter jacket and sip on vodka, Russian-style. Somewhat unseasonably, I ignored the bartender's suggestion of the hot toddy and went with the Slim Fittins (Tito's vodka, basil, lemonade). Yeah, I was basically drinking lemonade in 40 F weather. Having sufficiently frozen my fingers, I replenished my blood circulation with the house red and kind of wish I just had two glasses of it and called it a night. Nice place to catch up with friends or coworkers you've not seen since the dawn of face masks. I visited The Great Georgina on a Sunday evening with two friends for drinks. We hadn't made prior reservations but were able to find a table and be seated in their outdoor area without waiting. At this moment in time (COVID) they only allowed outdoor dining. You were required to go to the front entrance and place your orders to the hostess who was behind a plexiglass barrier. When it came time to order I only went with the house Pinot noir and an order of fries (required with beverages). Both were pretty tasty, enough that I got a second round! This is a great spot to meet friends at to catch up, or just to have a casual drink if you're relaxing on your own. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich meal, which includes a relatively small side of fries, costs $15. The chicken is sandwiched between a sesame seed bun and blanketed with slice(s) of melted American cheese. The sandwich was good but not among the best that I've had in Brooklyn. Additionally, I'm not a fan of cheese on a crispy chicken sandwich. However, the cheese was not overpowering. The fries were soft but good. They would've tasted a little better had they been crispier. The Great Georgiana has ample enclosed outdoor seating; the outdoor area has roof covering to protect against the elements. We had a great time here for a friends birthday. We were a group of 10 and luckily a corner table opened up which served as more than enough space for us throughout the night. The vibe is very laid back, casual and relaxing. It wasn't hard to have a conversation with someone around you, for example because the music was at a normal level. It also wasn't super crowded but not empty by any means. The crowd was generally older in terms of the bar scene which is a relief as I can no longer deal with the 20 somethings thrown themselves around bars. You won't find that here. The drinks, food and service were all on point. They have a nice variety for cheese plate selections and the small bread crackers they provide are delicious. I initially had hopes for The Great Georgiana, it was nicely decorated with a dark wood interior, and wasn't divey, a place you could meet someone for a few cocktails and enjoy the scenery during conversation. They were for a time an option to the Brooklyn Pub House across the street which I did not like and its Hipster crowd and rude staff. However, I feel that the prices for cocktails at TGG are too high, and unfortunately, the hipster crowd that once went to the now shuttered Pub House across the street have made their way to TGG. The last time I was there (last Saturday evening), I met a friend who wanted to have a cocktail (and did not want to go to the divey Alibi next door). Apart from being loud and crowded, with people hoarding space at tables and at the bar like it was their own demesne, my friend ordered a cocktail which tasted sweet. It was more expensive that the Powers that I had ordered. While it is better during the week, I just do not feel the vibe of this place, it will be a rare event when I go there. read more

As for other peoples comments on brunch, if you live in fort greene-clinton hill, YOU ALREADY KNOW brunch on the weekend is a mad house everywhere in this area. My local drink tips are to try the Malbec, Rose, and the "feel better" (best answer to hangovers). Other pro's are good live DJ's (who spin vinyl), outdoor seating, friendly staff, & clean bathrooms. I tried to like this place because I think the space has potential, but no longer. Music always way too loud. Glasses smell like soap. Service has never been friendly, but last time I was here the bartender was just rude. Like sorry to inconvenience you by coming into your bar and wanting to order a drink? I was pointedly told to "give him a minute" after which he ignored me for another 10 minutes, when he finally opened the bottle of beer he slammed it on the bar so hard foam started spilling out, which he also ignored. I'd say maybe he was having a bad day, if service wasn't generally always cold. I think some places like having that kind of reputation, that they're above their patrons; well I don't enjoy it. I'm spoiled. I get it. I've lived in New York for my entire life and have grown accustomed to certain things. Things like, accurate menu descriptions and getting what I've ordered, are just things I've come to expect living in a city with so many restaurants and bars. So after celebrating a friends birthday at the Great Georgiana, I can't help but wonder if my standards go in the way of my enjoying the night. That feeling of disappointments, that feeling that I've been cheated out of my hard earned money, was it because i had high expectations? Maybe you can help me figure it out. We started with the "KFC", aka Korean Fried Chicken. It looked great. It was certainly chicken. It was certainly fried. But, it certainly wasn't Bon Chon, or any other Korean fried chicken I've ever had. But, again, those darn standards, likely way too high so I'll give this a 4 out of 5. We had really high hopes for the Pumpkin Gnocchi with sage. So high, we ordered two servings. But, when it arrived, it looked suspiciously like mac n' cheese. So much so, we asked the waiter before he walked away and, lo and behold, it was the gnocchi. But it didn't taste like gnocchi. It didn't even taste like pumpkin. And, I'm in no way suggesting that the pumpkin flavor should have mimicked the strong aroma of a pumpkin spiced latte, oh no. But even a hint of pumpkin was absent from our collective noses and palates. But hey, maybe it's those expectations acting up again. I mean, this is a bar and bar food isn't exactly a 5 star restaurant. So, for this one, i would give it a 2 out of 5. (Disclaimer: If it was called Mac n' Cheese, I would give this dish 4 out of 5. It was an excellent mac n' cheese!) Had we stopped there, i could see myself giving the place a 4 star review. But the stars had not fully aligned at this point (no pun intended) and we were still drinking, and quite hungry. So, onto the meat and cheese plate. Here, I'll cut to the chase. This is a complete waste of your money. You'll pay $29 for 6 choices and you'll certainly get 6 choices, but not $29 worth. (1 out of 5 stars for what was simply a skimpy selection) But the straw that broke the camels back, was the Kimchi pancakes. Wow! They left me speechless. I work at a restaurant a block away, and I'm scared this place is going to steal our business. I could have been drinking for free at my place. I paid to drink here instead. Enough said. They just did everything right. I went there on Saturday. The vibe was chill but still buzzing. The bartenders were nice and attentive and cool-looking. (Hey, I want the people who serve me drinks to look cool. Don't judge.) The music was loud enough to drown out surrounding conversations without drowning out my own. The decor is lovely. They have this cool cut-out in the ceiling that kind of creates the illusion you're actually in an outdoor courtyard. It's hard to describe. Just go and check it out. Beautiful stainless steer bar. Two- and four-top tables as well as plenty of comfortable bar stools and seats by the window. The bathrooms have vintage-y mirrors and wallpaper. All great. I had two beers (good tap and bottle list), which came to a whopping total of $10! Was that a discount? If not, I'll be back just for those prices. I wish I'd gotten to try the cocktails. I started off with prosecco then went on to the Italian Lemonade yum yum yum. My husband stuck with his basic scotch. We ordered the Korean fried chicken and the Mac both were really good. Practically in tears and definitely in shock, I sent back the drink and informed the bartender outright that I don't drink alcohol. This bar was great for drinks and ambience- on a warm Friday evening it was buzzing but not packed, and quiet enough to have a conversation and grab a table. The service was good and the happy hour special for wine drinkers was GREAT. The choices for the $5 house wines included a nice crisp vinho verde, a rose, and a tempranillo, all of which our party ordered and of which were great. The food however was extremely disappointing- I ordered a $9 fried greek cheese dish which ended up being 3 small pieces of cheese and a tiny container of lemony yoghurt. My friend ordered an expensive cheese plate, which was served to her but all of the cheese was frozen! She sent it back, and ordered a kimchi pancake slider instead, which was middling. On our first visit we had an awesome bartender--his name escapes me, but he chatted us up and we had a good discussion on the makings of a good Negroni. The next night, different bartender--this one was a bit introverted but did make a good strong Negroni and Dark & Stormy. Ambiance is definitely chill in this place--we didn't encounter any crowds, in fact the place was pretty empty on both our visits. Prices for drinks are average for the area. You know clown cars, where lots of clowns get out of the really tiny car? This place is like that, but it's not clowns, it's regular people like you and me. And The Great Georgiana isn't a really tiny car, but it's smallish. So my analogy is really terrible, but my point is this place is great for drinks with a crowd, because it doesn't seem crowded even though there are a bunch of people there. If you've been to quiet bars and super mega packed bars, you know it's a magic trick when a bar can manage to have it juuuuust right. I'm glad they fixed this place up from its previous existence as a coffee shop. It's been a derelict storefront for quite some time. I went here on a date a few nights ago. It definitely has a romantic feel with its tea light candles and dark wood interior. I feel like the bartenders were ignoring me at one point; I like a good head nod to acknowledge that they notice I exist, and it took me a while to get that. But the cocktail they prepared looked well done, my draft beer was cheap ($5), and it was warm inside, so I give the Great Georgiana four stars. read more

Unremarkable. I came on a Saturday for brunch with 5 friends. The service was super slow. There was only one waitress and a guy behind the bar (who seemed like he probably could have helped her out a bit). The food was just not bad but it came out at different times so that some of us were half done with our food before the last guy got his plate. My glass was dirty with easily visible lip marks on it. I really liked the outdoor seating and the place looks really cool. My guess is that once they get more clientele they will get more waitstaff and that will solve my issue with this place. That said, nothing about the food stood out so I probably won't be returning, at least not for food. read more
