Since passing Bearded Lady dozens of times and always noticing the buzz of happy patrons at almost any time of day - sometimes in the middle of the afternoon on a work day? - I have wanted to come here for a long time. The springtime weather seemed like the perfect opportunity to grab an outdoor seat for a happy hour. While there's plenty of indoor seating as well, Bearded Lady does a very good job creating a quality outdoor experience. There are two covered sheds with plants a little off the sidewalk, as well as tables on the sidewalk itself. Outside, there's a self-service water station. It can get a little loud, being just off of Washington Ave, but the atmosphere does a lot to offset it. During happy hour, there are 3 cocktails that are $11 (normally $13) and also small discounts for beer and rosé. I ordered the Ginger Prince, which was refreshing on a warm day, in addition to being decently strong. Service was a little slow as our server seemed stretched thin, but they were very responsive as soon as we flagged them down. While there are definitely better happy hour deals out there, Bearded Lady provides a great outdoor experience with interesting drinks and neighborhood appeal. This review is based on cocktails and vibes only. I have not tried the food yet- This is such a great bar in the neighborhood for multiple occasions. Casual but cute first date, catching up with friends or even just enjoying a solo cocktail night, Bearded Lady suits alot. I love that they open their windows and that they have quite a decent amount of front sidewalk seating. This creates a nice indoor-outdoor living vibe that feels very quaint and local-neighborhoodie. I tried a few of their different cocktails and was plesantly pleased with all of them. They also offer happy hour, which is always a bonus. Be forewarned as I took sampled the Beacheeleechee (rum punch) and DANG no wonder why they limit this to 2pp, it is strong. It was good, and very fun but plan accordingly if you plan on drinking these because you may end up unexpectedly needing to go dancing after drinking these, haha. Service was great. I was debating between a few options and they helped me narrow down my selection based on my preferred flavor profiles. I hope I can make this my new go-to in the area. read more

You won't find me passing up a visit to a well curated tiki bar, and if their other bar Superpower is any indication, the team knows how to create a fun space with fantastic drinks to go along with. I couldn't help but be charmed by the menu, with cartoonish visuals of what each drink looks like next to a description and ingredient list. Booth seating and bright yellow high top chairs along the bar give the space a fun and funky look, good for a casual date or meet up with friends. The music is even played at a reasonable volume so you won't find yourself shouting to be heard, but there's enough of a crowd that the low hum of conversation around you will drown out yours. Ambient sound is an important factor to consider when choosing a date spot or place to hangout in, so this is me looking out for anyone doing their research. Someone with a more discerning palate may scoff at the drinks here, but I find them to be a step above serviceable. Generally I'm more focused on the company I'm with and the ambience of a place than the cocktails themselves, but I will say I found myself a little bit wanting when it came to the flavor of the drinks here. And while there is table service, you may find yourself having to go up to the bar to order additional rounds or to get your check, which is a okay for me but could be annoying for others. read more

I consider myself pretty fortunate to live literally right next to one of the hottest bars in my neighborhood, and top in Brooklyn in my opinion. You can't go wrong at The Bearded Lady and I rarely have a bad time. If I could describe my favorite cocktail it would definitely be a tropical one and this place is stock full of them! In fact it's their theme! Lately, because it's such a great bar, this place is always packed but for good reason. The outside seating and ample space with open windows indoors draw in the crowds and birthday parties alike! They even have a pool table in the back! They throw a lot of events too where you can come to watch the Kentucky Derby or big sporting events or even TV shows on a big screen in the bar. The cocktails are fancy and a little expensive but rightly so with so much effort put into them! Try one of their "John the Beachcomber" cocktails but note you're only allowed 2. It's that boozy. My favorite is the Fe Rey, a lovely little tequila meets Prosecco creation that's just so delicious and always hits the spot! People also come here for their oysters and other tasty bites. I'm not a big oyster fan but people rave about them! If you're ever in the area definitely stop in, it's definitely worth it. read more

I live in the neighborhood and have been meaning to come check it out. I came over here to meet with a friend to have a work-related convo. I arrived at 6pm and it was pretty empty, so I ordered a snack and drink and sat down with my laptop to prep for the convo while I waited for my friend to meet me. After getting my food/drink, the server curtly tells me I'm not allowed to have my laptop out after 6pm. It was 6:08p. This rule isn't stated anywhere.... and I'm annoyed it's been relayed to me ~after~ I ordered and got my stuff. If I had known I totally would've just gone to the cafe next door. I assume this rule is meant to keep people from posting up here for hours without buying stuff??however the dude sitting next to me has been sitting here drinking a coffee he brought in from somewhere else and reading a chapter book lol............ I've been coming to Bearded Lady for years now. I've gone for everything from birthday celebrations to happy hours with co-workers to a date night. Their cocktails will have you beside yourself. The Hot Chip is one of the most unique and delicious drinks I've had the pleasure of tasting. It comes with a charred corn husk which you can smell with every sip, adding to the taste of the drink. A second close favorite is the church key - probably the one I've ordered the most. The Fe Rey is also delicious - I would honestly recommend almost anything on their drink menu! My only wish was that they had more snacks for vegans (they do have a veg hot dog but couldn't verify if the bun was vegan). However, there are plenty of great restaurants in the neighborhood, and Riverdel is right up the street! read more

Not gonna lie, part of the fun was sitting outside at the intersection and watching very angry cars in traffic trying to maneuver by lol (yes covid is wearing on all of us). fun cocktails and light bites menu. A neighborhood GEM! Bearded Lady is one of the most consistent bars I've ever been loyal to. As someone who is always apt to order frozen drinks, I'm used to most bars having good days and bad days with their frozen machine - but here, they're always great. I rarely stray from one of their frozen options (even in the winter), but when I do, I'm always impressed with my choice. You can't really go wrong. The space is also fantastic. I love to sit outdoors, when space allows, but the indoor tables and the bar itself are also safe bets. I've been here plenty of times where part of the bar is closed off for a private event, so seems like a good option for that, if ever needed. Another favorite place of mine to chill at in the neighborhood. I really love the location - it occupies a corner spot, and the two outside edges have huge windows that can open up which exposes the space toward the street creating a nice open air vibe. There are also some wooden tables on the street for outside seating as well. The place has a decent beer selection and has cocktails too - so anything to suit your mood of the moment. The bar attracts a whole gamut of different people depending on the time of day - in the afternoons, it's not uncommon to see people come by to read a book or parents with their children coming in to unwind. During the evenings, it evolves into a more grown-up scene...and love the energetic/vibrant yet cozy atmosphere. As others have mentioned, happy hour with $1 oysters is a huge win too. No table service, so order at the bar. Staff and bartenders always have been friendly. My only dislike about the place is that it's cash only, but I guess that's not too entirely uncommon here in NY. I stopped by here for some drinks while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. As expected for a Saturday night, the bar was crowded, but we were able to get seats and were served pretty quickly. I tried the two frozen drinks, the painkiller and the other. The painkiller contained a very strong rum flavor that I was pleasantly surprised at since most are so watered down. The other frozen one wasn't as great, and more icy than anything. I'd come back for the painkiller, but if you are getting a frozen drink, I recommend you stick with that one. read more

Painkiller is one of best around. I could seriously sit there all day and drink them. And guess what? Feel no pain, lol. Seriously it's a cocktail available at most tiki/surf bars but it doesn't mean done right. Here it certainly is. And I really like this bar too. Visited Bearded Lady for after-work drinks on a chilly weeknight. They have a decent amount of outdoor seating serviced by their takeout window, so they are not doing any form of table service. I ordered the Bedford Nostrum, which was Mezcal, Barolo Chinato, Cardamom Bitters, Cinnamon, and Grapefruit oil. I was hoping that this would be a smoky, autumnal drink, but it was not spice-forward, and ended up just being somewhat barolo-forward, and sweet in almost a syrup-y way. It was not a horrible cocktail, but for $14, I was hoping for something that was much more nuanced. It was also a relatively small cocktail -- definitely pricy for the size of the drink. I also tried the Ted Damson, which had Plum and Dry Gins, Rosemary, Lemon Juice, Ginger, and Tonic, and while pleasant, was also pretty muted, flavor-wise -- it basically tasted like a gin and tonic with a bit of ginger. Bearded Lady is in a great spot and is a fun place to sit with a few friends or for a date, but the cocktails were simply underwhelming. Would definitely be willing to go back and try some of their frozen cocktails that they are more famous for, but will have to wait until next season and warmer weather to do so. read more

I loved this place! It was so cute inside I couldn't resist and had to take a selfie with my drink! It had these adorable yellow chairs and the atmospheric was great just a couple other people in the place working on their laptops and others catching drinks with their significant others. There was a pool table and a few tables away from the bar.The drinks were delicious but not much of a happy hour price. The bartenders weren't that friendly but they definitely made their drinks good and quick. I will definitely be coming back for some more drinks!
