I live close to Weather Up and like to pop in here by myself sometimes to read my book and enjoy good cocktails. I popped in on a rainy Saturday and was able to grab a table. They have a cocktail menu of around 10 drinks but can also make any cocktail you like. Their bar staff are always great mixologists and everything I have had here has always been good. This trip I had the Hey Sweet Pea, which was different and reminded me slightly of a green juice in cocktail form, and The White Lotus (like a pina colada with a bit of a kick). My partner joined me after this and we had a couple of happy hour daiquiris and margaritas, which were also good, so definitely felt pretty buzzed when we left (the pours here are generous). This was a perfect end of night transition cocktail for me that was a fun twist. I loved the sexy, intimate vibe of the space. I was lusting over that booth like window seat, such a great date spot. The first round of drinks was good, the second round just ok. But friendly staff, nice backyard patio, very small interior though. About a dozen cocktail options at any time meant they generally had more than one of a given liquor. The best by far in my opinion was the Cry Curacao. Japanese whisky, Islay Scotch, St Germain. Came here on a Sunday afternoon around 4pm and got a spot in the corner of the garden when it was totally empty. I got the RBG (apparently the most popular drink here) and though it was a little sweet, it was still really tasty. COVID times assessment: While every other bar's got seating on the sidewalk or on the street, the garden here at Weather Up has always been a nice reprieve from the bustle. Also, they've got bug spray and hand sanitizer easily available. They do hold strict to the wear-your-mask-when-the-server-comes-around standard which I respect. Also, they've got the Compliancy Sando which is really basically a king hawaiian bun with a few chips and spread. No culinary miracle but just enough to fulfill the food requirement for your drink and only $1! read more

Weather Up is a cozy spot, the tiled decor reminds me a bit of Schiller's Liquor Bar. The staff were friendly as we discussed our choices on cocktail menu. It seems to change seasonally and hasn't been updated here or on the website. That aside I had a drink that could only be described a something like a bourbon martini. Born and raised NY'er, I am a young black woman who was raised in Brooklyn and has been living in Prospect Heights since I was in high school. I came to get a drink last night and was offered a table inside. Another couple came after me and was offered and given my table without any prior explanation. They didn't have a reservation and was as confused as I was. When I inquired why, I was told by the host I was an "incomplete party"...yet I came to have a drink by myself. Even after realizing his mistake, he still gave the table to the couple that came after me and told me I can sit at the bar. I declined. Yet this Grande Dame of the NY craft cocktail scene is still here, turning out some of the best cocktails imaginable behind its unadorned white subway tile walls. I was here recently for the first time in ages, and the cocktails were as good as I had remembered in my dreams. Started with a classic Manhattan, which was perfect, then decided to try the Revolution off of their current specialty menu. I never would have dreamed of mixing Rye with Crème de Caçao, but this drink--also with cognac, Ginger Syrup & Lemon Juice--was just sublime. Blink and you'll miss the drinks on their menu, though--this place may be a classic, but they keep the menu new and fresh and inventive. I suspect they'd remember something if you fell in love with it, but better still, just go with what they are currently recommending on their continually new, fresh cocktail list . Just a great cocktail bar. I came here regularly several years ago, and always felt there was something special about the drinks. I could taste each individual ingredient, and at the same time taste the surprising and sometimes brilliant ways they played together. So many mixologists have high-minded ideas, but they don't have the sophistication (or maybe the pallet) to pull them off. But whoever is chefing this place is the real deal. I went back for the first time in a while this week. Many of the drinks on the menu had lists of incongruent looking ingredients. Some of them sounded awful. But I remembered my old experiences here, and just decided to trust the bartender. I'm glad I did. All the cocktails I were surprising and delicious. A couple I'd describe as "advanced"--I can imagine someone saying, "I'm glad I had this experience, but I'm in no hurry to repeat it." I can also imagine someone becoming obsessed and spending a year trying to reverse-engineer the dark magic in their man-cave / she-shed. For the final drink of the night my friend and I just ordered bartender's choice. We'd already gotten friendly with the cocktail waitress, and she know what we liked (and probably more than that--we were completely lit. These are strong drinks). I received the worst service I have ever received at this bar. After asking the server for a table she told us that she had to clear a table she proceeded to get in her phone and ignored us for the next 10 minutes. We sat down at the bar for her to tell us to get up because we were in the drink service area. I'm not understanding why there were two bar stools there is you didn't want people to sit there. We stood and she proceeded to sit down WHERE WE WERE SEATED and get on her phone. The bar tender and server ignored us for 20 minutes. As they talked and drank. We waited for 30 minutes with NO ONE asking us what we wanted . We left and went to a bar down the road. We were served within 5 minutes and were treated wonderfully. I'm not a cocktail kind of guy, but who doesn't need a stiff drink prepared with craft every now and then? I didn't know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. First of all, the bar is absolutely gorgeous: a shiny copper bar top[2] and curvaceous stools with red leather covering that are bolted to the floor. The ceiling is covered in white Guastavino-like tiles, and exposed bricks add the final touch to a retro-modern look that works. Dim lights and soothing jazz music add to the overall relaxed and romantic feel of the place. The compact cocktail list offers drinks that are reasonably priced[3], and they also serve beer. None of the cocktails really inspired me, so I asked the bartender to come up[4] with something gin-based. The very friendly bartender made me a Lucien Gaudin: * 1 ounce gin * 1/2 ounce Cointreau * 1/2 ounce Campari * 1/2 ounce dry vermouth Stir with ice, strain into a cocktail glass. If, like me, you like Negroni, you will like this cocktail. For a Friday night it wasn't that crowded People started showing up at midnight, but the place never got particularly loud. Very inconspicuous bar in the Prospect Heights area of Brooklyn. If you're not looking for it, you will miss it. It's an unmarked building. Alas, this adds to the cool factor of this place. You definitely get a speakeasy vibe inside. Dimly lit, wooden barrels as tables, etc. They have a unique drink menu. I really appreciate a place like Weather Up; solid cocktails at a reasonable price. So apparently this place has roots in Texas (a newly minted elite, and friend from Austin let me know), but aside from the off-menu loan star beer, you'd never know*. As plenty of folks have pointed out, they have zero signage on the outside, but I certainly wouldn't call this place a speakeasy in the typical sense of the word. It's more like a classic bar. It's dimly lit, plays decent music, oh and yeah, has a killer cocktail selection. They cover all the bases, gin, bourbon, tequila, and rum. For a whisky** lover like me though, the scotch infused drink was the only way to go. For 13$ (cash only), this is a solid deal for this part of Brooklyn. I will also say that the menu looks to be constantly evolving, which is certainly a good thing as the quality of the cocktail I had was wonderful. I will certainly be back soon to see what's new on offer..or maybe to ask them to make me a last word (my favorite cocktail), as I'm sure they would do it well. Came here on a Saturday night at 8pm and was able to grab a seat on the couches. It started to fill up around 8:30pm so I was happy to have a seat secured. I will admit that I was a bit apprehensive about coming here - how does a bar with limited cocktails get a C rating? Despite that, I gave it a try - the star daisy was good and quite strong, but the extremely limited menu is not my style. Would I come back? Maybe. I hate "cash only" places but I can't hate too much on this spot. The drinks are pretty much perfect here. Like the kind of perfect you expected when you first moved to Manhattan, but that was rarely delivered- kind of perfect. Forget the pretense and tight spaces and silly dress codes and barkeeps with with weird hipster tattoos. Just make me an interesting and tasty libation and we're good. I really wanted to write a raving review. But alas, I cannot tell a lie. This is the kind of place that is so familiar to Brooklynites. A speakeasy, hidden space where hipsters and tree huggers can conglomerate and enjoy a few cocktails without the pretense. I like the idea of Weather Up. The subway-tiled celings, the copper bar, the handsomely clad bartenders all make for great ambience. But the cocktails spoil the fun. I like well-made cocktails and well this place just seems too shy to step up to the plate. I was in the mood for rum. Rum reminds of the Caribbean; of care-free days and of the Old British Empire.* I wanted an old-style cocktail, to be exact, a Goomsbay Smash. I needed a cocktail to take me to sunny beaches and warm breezes. When I asked the bartendress to make me one, she frowned, and looked at me in disgust, and replied, "I can make you a Whiskey smash." I was clearly devastated. She not only was rude and condescending, but also had no clue about cocktails. This saddened me. I really wanted this place to live up to my expectations. I had a Planter's Punch which was just plain awful. Not the right amout of anything. The next drink I tried was a Mai Tai. Now I wanted to escape to Polynesia. But once again, a fail. Although the concept of this place is sexy and seducing, it clearly did not win me over. Thank God my companion was more interesting than the drinks. * I am not for the British Empire as it destroyed and pillaged many countries. And to this day, we still see the abusive and manipulative effects of colonization. But nevertheless, I still get weak in knees when a Hugh Grant type starts talking to me. Weather Up is this classy and sassy little gem tucked away like any good speak easy so that of course it's hard to find. There isn't a secret passcode or anything like that but the outside of the building is hard to distinguish what's inside. Inside it's a beautiful marble bar with vintage inspired decor and the drinks to bring you back to prohibition! We like venturing here for a specialty cocktail before or after a nice dinner in the neighborhood. It's a really nice place to take someone on a first date! I've had a couple different cocktails but I'm pretty sure they change up their menu often. The last time we were there I had a gin based cocktail that was so light and delicious!
