A truly great, chill spot for some solid drinks and vibes! Just what we were looking for after having an expensive dinner nearby - a lowkey and chill dive bar with amazing aesthetics and a fun atmosphere! There's plenty of seating, and it feels very warm and cozy within. Ordering at the bar took a little while, but the bartender was very friendly and once I had the drinks, it was a great space to relax within. We had some of the ciders, which were a great flavor and taste. I also loved the decor behind the bar and also throughout the building. There's a yellow, comforting warmth throughout the space, something that I loved on a cold winter evening. If you want a chill space with excellent vibes and a warm atmosphere, Skinny Dennis is definitely the spot for you. I stopped by on a Friday night around 11pm and this spot was PACKED. There was a $10 cash-only cover, and people visiting this bar as well as the staff were generally pretty kind. They don't really have food aside from peanuts, and the frozen coffee ($15 each) is a must try! It tastes a bit like a boozy frozen tiramisu - mix well to drink! It was super delicious and I'd definitely get it again. This is a super loud, super crazy vibey dive bar so don't expect something upscale or fancy. I've been going to this spot since it opened, maybe 13-14 years? Great prices, and I've heard some cool live bands. Just love the general aesthetic and I've celebrated a few birthdays with friends here as well over the years. But on Friday evening during happy hour, my wife and I went in for a drink or two before a movie at Nitehawk next door. We experienced a very RUDE female bartender. She never acknowledged us in a pretty empty bar. She was busy talking and having shots with another customer. Then a guy who came in after us walked up to the bar and got service while we waited. It was to the point that I had to get up and go to the opposite side of the emptyish bar, where she kept her body turned to her side the entire time I was waiting , avoiding any interaction with me. She did everything in her power to not acknowledge me, it was really odd. Not even a slight glance with eye contact or a "I'll be with you in a moment" sort of thing, which is a common courtesy for any bartender. Not sure what her issue was, but we are locals, not tourists or fratty bro types. But regardless of who you are or what you look like, she really should acknowledge any customer. I would understand if it was crowded at the bar, but it was not. My wife had the same experience with her as I went to the bathroom, tired of her rudeness. We frequent their other bars regularly - George & Jacks, RocknRolla, Lucky Dog. There are so many other cool bars in the neighborhood, like The Levee and the newly re-opened Dolly's where we get treated with respect. We mentioned to her that we had been waiting a while, and her response was that she saw us walk in 30 seconds ago, which was so untrue and she knew it. Then she threw a dig at my wife, assuming that she is a "red wine drinker". Um, NO - my wife is a beer & shot kind of girl. It was an obvious dig at her. I didn't even want to tip the bartender, but I don't believe in that. Just didn't overtip like I usually do. Bartenders in general work hard and I've had a lot of bartender friends over the years that work at these types of bar. Anyways, don't think I'll step foot in here any longer. read more

Such a great dive bar with no-BS staff and a vibe that's true only to itself. Live music is always rockin and ppl dance if they want to. Don't leave your drink unattended--I've been rufi'd there but didn't finish my drink. I did black out, luckily safely away from the creep who gave it to me. Came here because I wanted to hear live music on a Tuesday night and this place was reccomended. I came about 9:30pm-ish. It was a decent crowd but not unbearable. I was able to get a drink right away. I ordered a spiked Apple Cider which was really trasty. There was only one bartender and one bar back but they moved super quick. The band was nice. It was country music and I really enjoyed hearing live instruments. I appreciated that the band was loud enough but not too loud where you couldn't chat. I would go back. read more

Nice hole in the corner kind of place. There's a bouncer outside to greet you and check your ID. Inside there's an open space and some seats by the bar and the window. They also have outdoor seating, but you have to order drinks and peanuts inside. The peanuts weren't warm, but they were plentiful as well as tasty. The ambiance is basic and a little dark (light wise). I didn't check out the bathrooms because of another person's review here. They have an eclectic cocktail menu and a pretty boring or basic beer selection. I ordered the Bourbon Mint Sweet Tea (light on the whiskey). It was better than imagined and probably would have been fine with the full serving of whiskey. I like to be sure beforehand so if I don't like it it's not wasteful. They had a live band and it was worth the walk from Qns to Bklyn to see them. Ricky Stein was playing and they were really good. Some people in the audience/bar came to sing and play the harmonica together with them, and some others were dancing on the floor. They have a frozen coffee drink that was also a big hit. I didn't order it but so many others did. The bartenders were wonderful. The first one asked me if I was ready a few times (first timer unsureness) and she wasn't rude at all like some other reviews mentioned. The other bartender wound up getting my order. It was so loud in there it was hard for them to hear me so I wrote down my drink of choice to make it easier. I don't think she muddled the mint, but that's no matter. It was still good. Best country music bar in NYC! This is a dive bar, prices are reasonable, background music is mainly classic older country, and free peanuts. Shells on the floor please! Live bands just about every night. They always charge a $10 cover charge on the weekends after 8pm, so get there early to avoid it. I think they only do this to keep it from getting overpacked. Skinny Dennis is a super fun, casual dive bar in Williamsburg with live music, plenty of outdoor seating, and cheap drinks. Their iconic coffee drink is dangerously good and only $9, which makes it a bargain in a city of $16 cocktails. Sometimes it's significantly boozier than others though because I'm pretty sure the alcohol comes from the floater they put on top. Some bartenders are much more heavy handed lol. They give you free hot peanuts to snack on while you drink, which is the perfect snack, albeit an odd bar food. They won't let you take them outside though for some reason? It gets pretty busy on weekends so it can be a little overwhelming inside imo and the live music is always a touch too loud, but it's a fun casual weekday hangout. This place fucking sucks. If you want a shitty dive where you can barely hear your friends talk over the (okay) band playing covers, a rude bartender who will decide whether or not the place is cash only depending on how he feels that day and refuses to give you back change for your overpriced beer, and to be around a bunch of punchable transplants -- then this is the place for you. Trust me when I say, I've been here no less than 20+ times and it has gotten progressively worse. It's way too packed even on weekdays, and the bartender seems to have some kind of damaged personality that causes him to be a complete asshole to folks for no apparent reason. I'm not dealing with that bs in an area so congested with other bars, I'll spend my money elsewhere. Skinny Dennis used to be a fun place to enjoy Honky Tonk, drink Lone Star and hang out with your friends on the weekend and now has become a played-out, tired excuse for a weekend spot. I came here with a friend and it was just okay. The bartender is a little rude and the bathrooms are disgusting. It's a fun bar though. We thought the drinks were a little overpriced for a crappy dive bar, but the drinks were still cheaper than most bars in the neighborhood. There was a band playing while we were there, which was nice at first, but they played for a long time and you could hardly hear anyone talking over the music. I love this bar. It's dirty, it's cheap and it's a good time. I highly recommend you try their frozen coffee cocktail (-not sure what alcohol is in it, I think whiskey?) It's served out of the coffee cups you get at corner stores and coffee carts- it's a vibe. I've been here twice, both times had live music which is definitely a plus in my book. It can get quite crowded in here and the seating fills up fast, but it's totally worth standing around, swaying to the music and sipping on your drink. The floor is littered with peanut shells, but to me it's all part of the dive bar/ honky tonk experience. Service is good, I can tell they work hard for the amount of people that come in. I been waiting to visit this place for ever and my friend and I finally got a chance to try the frozen coffee. We came in on a Saturday afternoon, surprised by a small crowd assembled about. Country and classic rock playing in the background, the space looked like a bar my grandma's friends owned back home in VA. I was instantly comfortable. Relaxed, sipping on whatever libation they chose. My friend ordered us two of the signature frozen coffees. It is served from a machine, and properly juiced up with Evan Williams (green). With a nod to the Willie Nelson velvet painting hovering over the bar, a quick stir and a sip.... whewww they are strong (and good)! Kind of like a frozen liquored up vanilla latte for $8 in a old school coffee cup? Yes, please! I am quite intrigued. We would end up ordering another. We moved over to the window and enjoyed people watching for over an hour. When the bouncer arrived and asked us to move, I completely forgot that they had live entertainment! The band came and got their set up and sound check underway, I even got and impromptu serenade from the lap steel guitarist! They started out the set with some old school favorites from country greats like Hank Williams. The crowd didnt fully appreciate the music as much as a few of us around the place. There aren't many venues to hear country music in this city so Skinny Dennis has been on my radar for awhile. I came in after being at another venue with great music and wanted to keep that going. They had a live band that was ok, they were having some trouble with feedback. Background music moved towards rock after the country set finished. I don't know that there is a stage so much as a corner next to the bar you can squeeze an instrument or two into. It's a small bar to begin with and it was seriously packed. It seemed like me and the guy I was with had no where to go but I sidled up to the bar, brought back two beers, and managed to snag us seats by the door on what may have been a rear car seat. Freakin magic. Someone broke a glass, someone a decade younger than me tried to chat me up, and the bathroom line was long. Doesn't sound like 5 stars huh? It was a great time. Maybe it was the company, or the night, or the music, or the people smiling despite being on top of each other. We all wanted to be there instead of somewhere else and it worked. I saw a lot of reviews complaining about the crowds, and the only thing I can really say to defend it is you can't have a line outside a country dive bar. That just turns it into something else. So I like the idea of letting in whoever can stand it, and whoever can't leaves. It's a small enough space that the bouncer can practically reach across the room and remove someone anyway, so it's easy to keep from getting out of hand. read more

I hate that I have to leave this review, but I feel like nothing is going to change unless it's documented. My job frequents this place often for Happy Hour. This particular day, I stood at the bar for over ten minutes without service. My White colleagues approach the bar and the bartender automatically services them. When I comment on waiting for service prior to my colleagues arriving, the bartender catches an attitude with me saying she services whoever she sees first. Several of my colleagues witnessed this interaction and everyone felt it was racially driven, due to me being the only Black/Brown person at the bar. Furthermore, the attitude given was disgusting and completely unnecessary. Due to my experience, I will not be coming back and several of my colleagues won't either. read more

DO NOT COME IF YOU HAVE A NUT ALLERGY!! I have a severe peanut allergy and walked into the bar-- they do not tell you anywhere outside or inside there are peanuts. They are literally all over the floor. The second I walked in my shoes were covered in peanut dust --of course I instantly left. BUT If it was a slower night and I didn't see the peanuts all over the ground I would've purchased a drink and surely would have had to use my epipen. I'm a regular at this bar. I'm one of the few customers who actually enjoys traditional country music, so I frequent this place to hear some good jams and sip a beer. I bring my friends who visit from out of town and always tip well. I've even tipped the busser who is such a hard worker. Last night I came in after a long shift and just wanted a glass of wine. Knowing this place isn't known for their wine, I was fine with whatever they had. The canned wine (this was fine, I drink canned rose all the time) happened to have gone bad. It was carbonated, which means it's not good to drink. This happens from time to time so I really wasn't bothered by that. I asked the bartender if I can please have a Guinness (my go to) instead, and I'm happy to pay for the wine. She handed me a Guinness with a full head, really not the way it should be poured. I must of shown some annoyance on my face because she assured me it would settle down. I work at an Irish pub, this was NOT a well poured Guinness. I waited a few minutes for it to settle, then she came back, grabbed my beer away from me and said "What do you want? I can tell you aren't happy." At which point I felt way too uncomfortable to ask for anything else, and basically felt bullied so I just left. I've never been approached this abrasively by a bartender before, and was a little heart broken that a place I've been so loyal to would treat me so poorly. Please, don't treat your regular customers this way - especially solo female customers. I'll be back to give my money to the cool dude with the bangs, not the girl who gets mad at me because she can't pour a proper drink. read more
