This place reminds me of a 70's man cave. The bar has Kama Sutra decals lining the ceiling, a jukebox, the requisite dog playing poker picture, and a free pool table. For the pool table, you must place your name on a list. Way in the back, you will find an alcove with shag carpeted ceilings, mirrored panels and the centerpiece is a painting of Burt Reynolds from the famous Cosmopolitan centerfold. We came here because we were intrigued by the name of the place. It did not disappoint. They have cheap beer and drinks and looks to be dog friendly. Neat divey kinda joint. Pool table, inappropriate wallpaper, the whole nine yards. Came here for a pre-dinner drink with my partner and enjoyed the experience. They've got a bunch of solid beer on draft that was $1 off until 7 for happy hour. They also had some draft cocktails ($13, not happy hour) and wine as well. Brought in the New Year (2025) in this lovely establishment. Nice music selection playing, a pool table with a long waiting list of people ( proving the demand) and a lot of nice people. They handed out champagne at midnight to everyone in the bar and celebratory hats too to add to the celebration. Couldn't have picked a better spot to bring in 2025! The bar was a bit crowded but what do you expect. Met a couple of nice people and brought in the New Year surrounded by lovely people. I definitely recommend this place for a nice hangout spot to bring a friend for drinks. read more

It feels odd to give a dive bar five stars, but I really loved the ambiance of this place. It's divey but not dirty, and I see it as a quite versatile bar. You have the pool table for those interested in an activity, it's dog friendly (love), there is outdoor seating in the front, more intimate tables/booths inside, and while it's dark since it's a bar, it isn't too dark. Opted for a beer and a shot, can't ever go wrong with that in my humble opinion. And the beer really hit for the first time in a while. The bartender was also very friendly and attentive, despite being relatively busy. While I'm not often a repeater of bars, I think I'll be making some exceptions for this spot. read more

Days before omicron overtook the entire city I was sitting outdoors at Horses and Divorces drinkin beer n enjoying life with my boosted friends. Memories.... We ended up here precisely because I didn't want to be indoors and I'm sure glad I wasn't -- while they checked vaccine status coming in absolutely nobody inside had a mask on at all and it was packed to high Heaven. It was so loud I had to briefly take my mask off to order at the bar cause the bartenders couldn't hear me. But at least the bartenders were all friendly and the prices were average to solid -- there's a Lone Star and a shot special that's worth your $6 or whatever it cost. Anyhow the real reason I'm writing this is because past the bar with Kama Sutra decals around the ceiling and past the booths and past the pool table, there's this weird little nook with mirrored panels and a shag carpet ceiling and a giant painting of Burt Reynolds that is just really worth the ticket price* (*there is none it's a bar) alone. Like really looking forward to a post COVID world where I can sit in back there and stare at Burt and sigh wistfully. You know? That's the future I dream of. My new year wish. read more

Typical no thrills dive bar that is just missing a theme. Horses is a great alternative if Lucky Dog (sister bar) is too crowded. Prices are still reasonable with ample seating available. Music is pretty lame....I prefer the music at their other sister bars (Skinny Dennis and RockaRolla) much better. It would also be better if they served free peanuts or popcorn here like they do at Skinnys and George and Jacks. read more

This bar doesn't owe you anything.... Just like your ex spouse. I forgot my credit card for the first time in my life at 33 and they held on to it for me. I called them the next morning and they're surprisingly open! I went in, grabbed my card and ordered one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. I love the pool table in the back, but the shag rug room back past the bar with the painting of Burt Reynolds is even better. They leave their Christmas decorations up by the bathroom all year which is rather disturbing. read more

Man, that picture of Burt Reynolds on the bearskin rug making eyes at me through a beaded curtain just brings out all my 70's fantasies. The bar is owned by the same people who own Lucky Dog and the vibe is also pretty much the same. Friendly dive, excellent non-internet jukebox, and a good combination of bar/booth seating so you can mingle or hunker down with friends. Good conversation, easy to make friends. Even on a weekend it doesn't get over crowded till after midnight, and this is just because I'm older now, by NYC standards it stays pretty manageable. And you can hear people over the music. The crowd is a good mix of 20/30 something getting younger during weekend late nights. Pool is free so be prepared to wait your turn. read more

They just opened in February and when I went, didn't even have a Yelp listing yet in May. It was a fairly standard semi-dive type of spot but had a respectable beer list. Horses and Divorces is a pretty good bar. I liked the name. That's why I wanted to go. It thankfully has more than that going for it. The bar has great cocktails and many have good prices. I had some kind of rose vodka lemonade. It's about $10 for a glass. This is pretty refreshing if the weather is hot. It also has a lot of local beers. These of course include Brooklyn Brewery and others. Cool decor. The bar has a retro 1970s macho theme. It has lots of cool crap on all the walls. I went on Thursday 11/14 and ordered two drinks at once (a beer and well cocktail) while waiting for a reservation nearby. The reservation called and we rushed out. After we left, I realized that I didn't close my tab. I assumed there would be a 20% auto gratuity. Well a few days later I get two separate charges for $17 and $50, eventually settling out to a $67 total charge on my credit card. There are no combination of charges and tip that should have equaled $67 for two drinks at this bar. So since odds are low that I can do anything about it since I never got my receipt, this weird transaction behavior should be noted. Don't walk your tab. read more

While I mourn the loss of Rosamunde, at least this bar is pretty solid. I don't know why it's called Horses & Divorces, but at least it rhymes. Everyone knows things are better when they rhyme. There's a good juke, nice bartenders, bar snacks, a pretty solid beer list, and Burt Reynolds memorabilia everywhere for some unknown reason. It brings in a fun crowd, and your friends just might run into more friends, which will make for a solid night. Now, I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I actually would prefer if they didn't offer free pool. I've reached a point in my life where I can pony up (pun intended) 50 cents or $1 for a pool game without having to overdraw my bank account (brushing off my shoulder here). If there was just a baseline fee, it might keep everyone and their mother from putting their name down to play. I spent two hours here and I wasn't even close to the top of the list, and that made me sad. So I had to leave without embarrassing myself at pool, and that also makes me sad. But they allow puppies, and puppies make me happy. So I guess life is OK. read more

An acquaintance of mine recently tried to convince me that "Williamsburg has really grown up." I think what she meant was that we've gotten older and all of our peers now have enough money to open businesses that folks like us also like. So Horses and Divorces--with a funny but self-referential name--seemed to fit the bill. They have some good deals (a crappy beer and a well shot for $7 or TV dinners for $5, for example). They play music, but not too loud, so you can talk. It's cute but not cloying. It's crowded, but not too much. A mediocre bar run by pretentious hipsters as per usual of Williamsburg. Bartender with long hair was rude to me and my female friend when we asked for drinks. I asked if he had a menu, and he points to a table sign with a QR code that YOU HAVE TO SCAN. What the hell? When I asked if they had more than one flavor of Martinis and Daiquiris, his response was "This is a dive bar. We're not like Chilli's or anything like that. It's pretty basic. Blah blah blah." I could do nothing but sit there, jaw dropped and appalled at his behavior. Then he asked if we would like to open a tab since the way the bar works is that you either have a tab open or pay up front. The drinks were lousy, too. My friend had a Dirty Martini that was basically more parts olive juice and my other friend had a drink that was stirred and NOT SHAKEN even though it was a drink that requires shaking. My Martini was too strong and made me nauseous. Never coming here again. P.S. If Jon Taffer walked into this dump, he'd have a field day. This place needs serious help. read more

Love the bar and bartenders but the bouncer tonight (Wednesday) was truly crazed. My wallet got stolen 3 weeks ago AT THIS BAR and I went back thinking I could show a photo of my license (I am a 5'1 and 35 year old woman). The bouncer said no. I'll keep the story short for this review. But I waited as my friend went to the back to talk to our group of friends quickly. A group of girls came in and one of them showed a folded piece of paper that was her EXPIRED temporary drivers license (no photo) and gym card (no photo just matching name). I asked how that was any better than my physical credit cards that match my photo of my license that again was stolen at this bar. He proceeded to tell me that if I continued to speak to him he would "snatch me right up and toss" me out of this bar. That bouncer is on an ego trip fueled by truly nothing. The bar itself is great but this bouncer is going to end up making this bar have a horrible reputation (the Charleston). read more

Dogs on bars, pencil nudies, Turd Ferguson, and Budweiser in fake plastic cups. This is the bar your mother met Trebek in when she had that first abortion. First of all, I've heard this place gives out free roofies and I've never gotten one. So that's depressing. But I will say I would fuck all of the staff anyway, I don't even need to be blackout. Also like lean me over the pool table and put those balls in my pockets, ya know what I mean. Is this a red flag? Probably. But to me, it's just another night in Brooklyn. And I also had a divorce and a horse -- that lead to an ASPCA charge. And trauma. To my Vaj. But yeah, I feel like this bar really gets me. I couldn't recommend this place enough.
