The Old Stanley's is a Bushwick ol' standard! It's got everything one really needs for an evening summer debauchery or hair of the dog following day libations. Necessities -Patio -Bloody Mary's with baby sized corona bottle chasers -Hot Dogs with words written in mustard -two sizes of beers for those slower or faster drinkers -always great tunes playing -a cut out where one can take adorable/ embarrassing pictures for all your social media addictions -Buckhunter I've been here too late at night and I have enjoyed lounging outside on the picnic tables! They even have umbrellas for us goths not to get burned during the day but still be able to enjoy the outside. I've also been here around brunch time and at first I was surprised when I got a little side beer with my bloody. But I quickly learned to live it. I like that it cut the heaviness of my Bloody. And it's more bang for my buck indeed. One of the best draws is the amount of vintage seventies bar accents this place has and that it feels like a time warp. Unfortunately I never bump into old townies but that's what you get in NY. Obviously you get that freshly moved to NY crowd on the weekends and the tattooed regulars more industry peep on Sunday- Wednesday. It's a no-nonsense bar with lots of room, a friendly staff, and reasonably-priced drinks! Plus, when it's warm, they have a great outdoor space. Note that Old Stanley's also serves a few munchies if you're hungry... AND some special grub on Sundays with an awesome local chefs! I love this place - bartenders are friendly and the music is just at the volume that you can hang out! There is a photo booth and a pinball game! It has the feeling of a dive place, yet it is more classy, just the way I prefer it to be!! I often go here just to have a beer with a friend either to start the night or to cap it off!! It doesn't really serve any food, except from hotdogs and pretzels, but really, if you are gonna have a meal, find something more healthy than bar food! Let me say first off that i have been to Old Stanley's in the past and it was always calm, this time however was so incredibly miserable i will not be coming back. I walked in and sat at the bar for a while before the bar tender a larger brunette woman finally walked over, I said hi and asked a question about drink specials, she rolled her eyes said nothing and pointed at a menu that did not even have the info i was looking for. After several more minuets of her talking with her friends she finally came back. I decided to just get two beer shots as to not annoy her more. She poured the wrong shots then when i tried to correct her she started to scream and berate me and my friend, gaslighting us saying we did not "order right" even though she never asked what we were shooting. We finished our drinks and left without even doing karaoke. Iv run into hard nosed or unpleasant bartenders i get people have bad days, but this woman was completely over the line. Walked passed Old Stanley's the other day. Had to do a double take. Went back last night to make sure I wasn't just seein' stuff. An overdue addition to a neighborhood that has been thirsty for years. Old Stanley's promises to be more than some tolerable dive. Beautifully laid out with a crescent-shaped bar (with hooks for bags and coats), Playboy pinball machine, Big Buck Hunter, quality juke box, free peanuts, HOT DOGS, and seats everywhere. Plus, they have a television (so if you show up by yourself without a book you'll have an acceptable place to rest your creepy eyeballs) and a backyard for summertime. Among the weird, nostalgic adornments is a painting of Jack Tripper with a dog treat in his mouth and a puppy in his arms. I think that effectively summarizes the decor. I stopped in here with a friend to hang out in the backyard to play games and drink soda/tea since neither of us drink alcohol. The bartender very rudely said she wouldn't accept my NYC ID as a form identification so we'd have to leave. She said that "everyone knows" you can't use the city ID in bars and I explained that I don't drink so I don't hang out in bars so it never came up. For goodness sake, TSA has accepted the ID at three different airports and that's a matter of national security but I can't use the ID to order a soda in a bar? I pointed out that we weren't even ordering alcohol. "It says on the ID that you can't use it in bars". It actually doesn't. My friend thought she just didn't want us there since they wouldn't make a lot of money off our sodas, even though there were only 3 people in the giant space on a Monday night. I don't know if that's true but I know the bartender was extremely rude for no reason. All she had to say was "I'm really sorry we can't accept it. I love it here. The bartender is so nice ! She let us try her hot sauces from the recent Brooklyn expo hot sauce convention. She's attentive and friendly and funny ! Also, most bars in Brooklyn I feel try to be the next cool hip place with a certain type of vibe. This is the most just-a-bar bar in Bushwick. That's rare. There is no small plates menu or anything like that, but there's peanuts for free and hot dogs for two dollars. Brian, one of the owners, frequently bartends. He does it well-- I only came in a couple times before and sat quietly reading, but he remembered what I was drinking the last time. Beers on tap range from $3 Busch to various fancier IPAs and Guinness. But if you want to get a beer and a shot, it's a six dollar flat rate to get well whiskey and a frosted mug of any draught beer. It's closer to my house than any other bar, and absolutely devoid of bullshit. They've got booths, a dartboard, a pinball machine that I intend to try out when I remember to bring quarters, and a very welcoming atmosphere. Unlike many of the new Bushwick bars which are populated almost exclusively by white transplants to the neighborhood, I've been in here and seen-- gasp-- people who were visibly Not Hipsters. It's okay I guess, although last time I went we got a booth that a bunch of super young people who acted like it was their first time going out drinking (seriously, I think they left because someone had to puke) had abandoned. The decor is straight from my favorite dive bar in the midwest: colored christmas lights, old prints on the walls, beer advertisements, oak. Perfection. I used to come to this establishment a lot, but recently a regular at the bar repeatedly shouted 'faggot' at my gay friend and then waited for him outside the restroom and punched him in the face. We spoke to the bartender about this and she said that he had 'been nice all day' and refused to do anything about it. We then went to leave and the guy was waiting outside and beat my friend up, broke his nose in three places till he was bleeding on the street. The police were called and the bartender (blonde girl) still refused to comment. The bar itself have refused to give any of the CCTV footage of the event and have been totally uncommunicative. So basically, if you're homophobic and violent, this is probably the bar for you. (Would give 0 stars if I could) read more

Beautiful bar about a 5 min walk from the Myrtle-Wycoff stop on the L train. Not sure if it quite qualifies as a dive but I suppose it is close. The bar itself is a beautiful refinished wood monstrosity and they have delicious sic point on tap. Worth the trip on the L and sit close to the border of Brooklyn and Queens. read more

the space is really nice, but i'm at a loss as to what is trying to happen here. Cash Only. No happy hour - which is bizarre for a bar this size. They DO have a cold mug draft + rail shot for $6 , but the mugs are those 'trick' mugs that are reallly, really thick. so you're not really getting that much beer and the size of the glass is an optical illusion. Losers. though they play sports on the TV, the music is on the punk rock side. The bartenders from what I'v seen are all (moderately attractive) males, so the clientele is typically fawning women or fan boys of sports...but no punk people.
