I went in expecting a solid French brasserie, but the whole experience felt a step above that without trying too hard. The space is beautiful in that understated Brooklyn way. High ceilings, soft lighting, and just enough energy in the room to make it feel lively without being chaotic. It works equally well for a date, a dinner with friends, or even a solo meal at the bar. Food-wise, everything felt intentional. The menu leans classic French, but it doesn't feel heavy or outdated. The roast chicken is the obvious move for a reason. It's simple, but perfectly done. The kind of dish that makes you realize how good something basic can be when executed right. The steak frites were also solid, and the sauces across the board stood out more than expected. Service was polished but not stiff. They know what they're doing, but it never feels rehearsed or overbearing. If I had to nitpick, it's not cheap, and portions aren't massive, but you're not really coming here for volume anyway. It's more about the overall experience. I think I just found my new favorite restaurant! We stopped in last night for a quick birthday dinner, mainly choosing it for the convenient location between our plans, but what a wonderful surprise. I only wish we had allowed more time to fully relax and indulge in one of the more elaborate desserts. Even though our visit was brief, the experience was exceptional from the moment we walked in. The gentleman at coat check immediately set the tone for a great evening, special shoutout to Eugenie! Our waiter, John, was superb. His recommendations were spot-on, and his warm, welcoming demeanor made the evening feel more special. We enjoyed the oysters, mushroom pâté, steak tartare, and the roasted chicken with jus and fresh herbs--chef's kiss! Despite our tight schedule, John added a thoughtful birthday touch with a quick candle in the Earl Grey ice cream, which was absolutely delicious. Our taste buds were thrilled. Came here with friends for brunch, and loved the ambiance and the food - while it's a fancier spot, the food definitely lives up to the high ratings. The group got the famous blueberry pancakes to share, which were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. And while I liked how the pancakes weren't too crispy, I unfortunately found the bitterness from the citrus zest inside the pancakes to be a little overpowering. Outstanding food and hospitality at Le Crocodile. We popped in on a whim for lunch on a Tuesday and were seated right away. The restaurant itself is beautiful, elegant, and spacious. I had the chilled tomato soup and duck off the lunch prix fixe and my husband had the burger with a side salad off the regular lunch menu, per our server's recommendations. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Everything bite was perfect. The wine selection is extensive and we both had a white wine by the glass. I accidently spilled ~1/3 of my wine and without skipping a beat, our server kindly refilled it without making me feel silly. We ended our lunch with the maple creme brulee. Was blown away with the hospitality at Le Crocodile! There was a mixup with the reservation and the host was super helpful and still allowed us to sit as a group of six. They offered us to sit upstairs on the terrace, but we ended up going down to the bar which worked perfectly. I love all of the attention to details, especially the warm blankets for the outdoor terrace. Such a nice touch! Everything was delicious and packed with flavor. My favorite here was probably the mushroom pate. As for mains we split the chicken and steak frites. Both were very yummy. I was honestly a bit hesitant to order the chicken since it's often dry at restaurants but this one was juicy and flavorful. The steak was also great, cooked to medium rare. It seems there's only enough room for one reptilian French restaurant in the city. With La Grenouille permanently closed, Le Crocodile is thriving within the Wythe Hotel thanks to a spot on the NYT's top 100 list and, perhaps to a lesser extent, its famous sticky date pudding. Dinner at a French brasserie is always a worrisome affair for a vegetarian, but the off-menu cacio e pepe risotto was fantastic, and the trumpet mushroom entree with lentils was a pleasant counterpart to the extraordinarily rich mushroom pâté. If I had any complaint, it was the heavy scent of vinegar on the leeks. As for the pudding? We Live in the city but have been wanting to venture over to the up and coming Williamsburg area. This was the perfect introduction to a great area and a fabulous restaurant. One of my first indicators of a great spot is the bar service and this one gets 100% for great service and drinks. Peter and Dan tag teamed and WOW they were just lovely. Once our reservation opened up we moved to a table and the great service just continued. We shared the tartare and the Jonah Crab with Avocado, both extremely fresh. Main course was a table of Filet and fries, halibut, Bolognese, salad and Onion soup. I have been here so many times and this place never fails no matter what you order. Everything is delicious. Nothing is overly heavy. The Jonah crab with avocado and yuzu is one of my favorite things on the menu. Had the French onion soup for the first time here and it had a deep rich flavor. The ribeye and the tuna were each perfectly cooked. If you wanted elevated food and a beautiful atmosphere, this is the place. The staff is attentive. This will always be one of my go to spots. Well deserved 5/5 stars and I can see why Le Crocodile has a 2024 Michelin designation. My partner is from France, and I've been to France twice. I can safely say this is the best French restaurant in all of NYC. We were lucky to snag a table by walking in the day after Thanksgiving. The ambiance is calm, quieter than most NYC establishments, and resembles a chalet (wooden house). The French onion soup (perfectly cheesy and seasoned) , country pate (accompanied by the cornichons, perfectly textured crispy baguette, and raisins with pickled red onions) , steak frites (one of the most tender cuts I've ever had with a generous portion of perfectly crispy fries) , croque madame (with authentic French jambon/ham), and the profiteroles (perfectly textured choux with a delicious chocolate and coffee sauce) were all perfectly executed with great portions. Selected by a friend for Brunch for her birthday weekend long celebration. The table was collectively underwhelmed by the experience. The cocktails weren't anything special. The lattes and cappuccinos however were well done. They were unfortunately out of all pastries, which we were sad about. But thought our dishes would make up for it. There were orders of pancakes, bacon, Avocado Toast and the French Toast, which is what I went for. 5 minutes after the order was placed we were told there was only enough bacon for one side order. 20 minutes after that, I was told they were out of my French toast and had to settle for an avocado toast. Avocado Toast was basically cold. Toast was thick, but extremely rough to cut into and eat. And there was nothing special done to the avocado itself. Just pretty straightforward with salt and oil. They were kind enough to bring out a birthday dessert and accompanying ice cream, which was a very nice touch. The vibe can use some livening up, as the ambiance was gloomy. I don't recall any music. I had Christmas dinner with my girls last Saturday at this place, and unfortunately, it was a really disappointing experience. The food wasn't great, overly salty and definitely not worth the price. Our waitress was very nice though. On top of that, we had a very unpleasant encounter with the bouncers. While my friends and I were taking photos in the hallway (when no one else was even around), they repeatedly tried to make us leave the area and made snarky, disrespectful comments toward us. **review is for NYE pre fixe** Le Crocodile has been on my list for what feels like an eternity. I can't say I expected to come here for the first time for a special menu given how much I wanted to sample all that it has to offer on a typical night, but it seems the fates planned it this way. We were at least able to conquer most of the cocktail menu, which was fantastic and an easy five stars on its own. Overall, hotel restaurants/bars/rooftops/empires have been exploding in Williamsburg in the past few years, and I get the sense that Le Crocodile is the gold standard. After all, it was one of the originals along with the William Vale. Though the food was here was solid, I would still like to come back for routine dinner service because our time here was a bit rushed and I felt like we didn't get much chance to reflect on the food. In any case, we had a great time and appreciated the chance to get festive here. We came here at around 9pm as a party of three. The energy was actually pretty mellow here, which was surprising given the occasion. I guess it's not exactly giving pregame, but we decided to be fancy like that. The space itself is beautiful though understated, inviting and refined. It's great for most occasions, as viable for a date as it is for a parents night (if your parents are partial to French food but you want to subtly shift them towards something more modern). As I mentioned, I was very happy to find the entire drink menu at our disposal, which I took full advantage of given it was NYE. As is my way, I started with the Martini (Amalfi Coast Gin, Cucumber Botanical Vodka, Dry Vermouth, Lemon Oil), which was crisp and smooth and delightful. Had I not been so excited by the other drink options, I would have ordered this and this alone all night. I then tried the Last Word (California Dry Gin, Finocchietto, Lime, Honey), which subbed Finocchietto for green chartreuse in a fun and funky variation on the classic. I ended with the Midnight in Oaxaca (Mezcal, Amaro, Benedictine, Sweet Vermouth, Bitters) because I have never met a mezcal negroni I haven't liked, and this one was no exception. Complex but impeccably balanced, another one I could order multiple times and not tire of. Food-wise, unfortunately I did not take note of the special menu so I won't be able to recount specifics of some courses. Generally, I will say that it was way more food than we could handle (not necessarily a bad thing and somehow we managed to keep the leftovers in a doggie bag with us all night despite it being a chaotic NYE) and we felt a bit rushed through the meal. Overall, the food was very good, with some standouts and some dishes that were decent but not memorable. Given that we were three people and most courses had a choice of three options, we ended up ordering one of everything in order to try more dishes. Appetizers: we had a beet dish, a tartare (I forget the fish, I think tuna), and a crab and avocado salad. All chilled and a very nice way to start the meal. I would say my favorite was the crab and avocado, though honestly they were all fantastic and probably the highlights of the meal for me. Pastas: I am generally GF so I cannot speak to these, but the consensus was that the mushroom pasta was better than the lobster risotto. Mains: I didn't try the steak, but my partner and my friend gave it a solid review. I stuck with a halibut preparation that was delicious and warming, great for the weather and super satisfying. It was hard to finish given how rich everything else was, but we all did our best stepping up for each other when one person started slowing down. It's called teamwork! The room was setup so beautifully (was so in the moment) pictures weren't on my mind. The staff was very pleasant and professional and made sure we were well taken care of. We had a personal bar, with a variety of soda and juices. No adult beverages, the event was geared around high school students. But they have a large variety of cocktail and wine options. For appetizers we had broccoli rabe and the mushroom stuffed ratatouille. Both are delicious, but the ratatouille was OMG good. For the main course, we had the salmon (wasn't my favorite) could have used a bit more flavor, a fried chicken with a honey glaze (really tasty) and fries. I was highly interested in this restaurant to book an intimate dinner with loved ones in their private cellar room. I wanted to first have dinner (which I didn't need to) and check out the space since the Google reviews were positive. I booked the reservation a month in advance and told this viewing was possible. Fast forward to the date of the dinner I called to change the time and told the viewing was impossible since they booked a wedding and then told any future viewings may be unavailable despite having a reservation. I'm extremely disappointed there was no courtesy call (or an email) and lack of consideration for guests like myself who travel from other parts of New York to get to Brooklyn.
