My mom tipped 30% and asked if they could put our food in the fridge for a few hours while we went to the park. They agreed. We returned and my parents asked if they put our food in the fridge. My partner and I dined here during their live music night. Nice vibes, although it's a small dining space. The staff is constantly crossing through the whole restaurant back and forth, since one side is the Kitchen, the other end is the bar, where the staff's main position is, which can be distracting if you are watching the performers. Decided to stop in here, I think the flowers outside pulled me in. We sat outside because the temp outside was nice and cool. The servers were so nice, kept checking on us the whole time to make sure we didn't feel left out, outside. For drinks, I had the ginger tamarind which was sooo good and refreshing esp the little ginger candy. My husband had the Thai iced tea. Now for the food, I ordered the spicy basil fried rice with fried shrimp and it was indeed spicy. I have a high tolerance for spice but it was really spicy so I asked for a sweet sauce although it came with a sweet chili sauce, they gave me plum sauce which helped. I want you to try it; you will get your whole life. Muse is beautiful and filled with authentic South East Asian art and textures. I found myself looking up, reverting to marveling at how they organized and decorated the place. The outdoor seating is also styled to be seamless with the inside. Our server was excellent; constantly making sure we were doing good and had full glasses of water. We started with the popcorn shrimp and calamari. Both solid! I went here twice. My first visit was near perfection. Seating was ideal. Service was quick. I loved everything I ate but what stuck out to me was the duck rolls and chicken pad see ew. I also appreciated how they served my Thai iced tea without milk (since I can't really have milk). Everyone was so kind and welcoming too! The presentation was also on point. I had felt like I had found a new Thai spot to go to... My second visit showed me a couple of flaws that I can't seem to get past. For one, the person working at the bar was really rude about not adding milk to the Thai iced tea. She basically explained how it was impossible to do and can't be done... confusing and also weird. Two, I ordered a pad Thai this time around and didn't like how the noodles were like a thin spaghetti type rather than the usual thick l, skinny, and flat noodle you usually get in pad Thai. Three, I took this order to go and no one was even in the restaurant but it took about 45 minutes for me to get the food. I just felt really disappointed because my second visit was the opposite of my first visit. Overall, I haven't been back ever since my 2nd visit. But if your experience is better than mine, fabulous! Came here on a Thursday evening for dinner with the gf. It's a pretty nice Thai restaurant on the corner that has outdoor seating on the sidewalk. They also have a noodle bar attached to the side, but was not open, but they were still serving the items from the menu. Staff members are super friendly and are pretty attentive to us. We started off with drinks and both were made beautifully. Just a Minute ($16) is an Irish Gin drink with Aperol, Jasmine essential, egg white, and lemon juice. Chili The Eyes ($16) is a Mezcal drink with long hot chili, pineapple juice, lime juice and syrup. I am a fan of mezcal and then with the added spiciness enhances the drink. For appetizers, we had Rock Shrimp ($12), which are fried shrimps sprinkled with mango and green apple served with special chef sauce. Can not go wrong with these. We also had the BBQ Ribs ($14), which are seasoned char-marinated with BBQ sauce. The meat is fall off the bone good and the sauce on the ribs are phenomenal. We also got the Papaya Salad ($14), consisting of fresh papaya, carrot, tomato, string bean, peanut, chili, and spicy sweet lime dressing. It's a good cold dish to have. For entrees, we shared the Muse Curry ($18) w Duck (+$13). This is a homemade curry paste, fresh coconut milk, bok choy, and asparagus served with jasmine rice or steamed rice noodle. We got the jasmine rice as we like soaking the rice in curry. The sauce wasn't spicy, but tastes delicious. The duck is well made and not oily or dry. We also got the Muse Bay ($21) from their available noodle bar menu, which is homemade roasted pork, crispy belly, bok choy, steamed chicken dumpling, egg, noodle, garlic oil, scallion, cilantro, and chili powder. This thing had probably everything you'll ever need in terms of meat. The broth is served on the side for you to pour into the bowl yourself or however you want to consume this dish. I personally like eating the crispy pork belly while it's still crispy and everything else I did not mind soaking it in with the broth. This wasn't really spicy as advertised, but it's delicious. I've been to this restaurant about 6 times over the past year & unfortunately the experience has rapidily declined since the change in ownership. When the food is fresh, it's excellent. The wings are flavorful, easy to pull off the bone & clearly freshly prepared. That's why we kept coming back. However, several visits have shown that the food quality is inconsistent. On multiple occasions, the wings had dark-colored bones & meat that was tough to pull apart, which are signs they're reheated. During our most recent visit, the wings also seemed old/reheated, but we still ate them because we were hungry. We didn't ask for them to be removed from the bill. The pork dish on the same visit was dark, drenched in sauce & tasted sour. Very different from how the dish is normally prepared/shown in previous reviews. We tried to give it a fair shot but ultimately could not eat it. We only asked for that portion of the pork to be removed from the bill because it was clearly inedible. It's important to note that on previous visits when we mentioned our concerns, we weren't asking for it to be removed from the bill. If the staff removed it themselves, that's their decision. There's a difference between letting staff know the food isn't fresh & refusing to eat it vs requesting a discount from the bill. This is the 1st time we've asked for an item to be removed. The owner also claimed this was the 4th time we've sent food back, which is a clear exaggeration. We've only done this twice when the food genuinely appeared off. It seems he's asking us not to return because we pointed out when food isn't fresh, not because we were rude or disrespectful. From the moment we arrived, we were polite and calm, but the service was hostile. Questions about the menu were met with attitude & inconsistencies about what items were available weren't clearly explained. When the owner approached us, he was yelling and openly hostile, even though this was the 1st time we'd spoken to him. He said his staff were afraid of my friend, which made her feel racially profiled. This comment came before any confrontation & had nothing to do with her response. My friend kept asking him to calm down & to speak to her w/ dignity, giving him ample opportunity to deescalate. When he continued yelling in her face, she got up & started yelling back at him. It was loud and aggressive, but it was also necessary because she felt targeted & threatened. I've never seen someone get put in their place so quickly in my life. Her response was fully justified because we'd been calm and polite & the owner came at us with disrespect and hostility. When we brought up that my friend, whose been a loyal patron since 2017, noticed the food quality change about a year ago, the owner admitted that this was because ownership changed to him. That admission was concerning because it seemed like he was acknowledging that the food quality is poor under his management. This is especially disheartening because the restaurant is located in the center of a predominantly Black neighborhood & most of the customers are Black. My friend has been a loyal customer, spending hundreds of dollars each visit & bringing many people she knows to the restaurant, but we will no longer be recommending this restaurant or the sister restaurant, MISC to anyone. After the altercation, we researched the restaurant & found the owner blatantly lied when he told us no one complains about his food. Many 1 star reviews talk about the racial profiling, staff pressuring customers about tips & concerns about freshness & quality of food. The owner himself is responding to those reviews. The same pattern appears at his sister restaurant, MISC. Customers there report exact issues with racist profiling, food freshness & tip disputes. I told the owner that I understand the cultural importance in Asian cuisine of avoiding food waste & I respect that completely. However, when you go to a restaurant, you expect fresh food, not leftovers. Our concern was never about being difficult. We've never been disrespectful, or rude, yet we were met with nastiness from the waitress & the owner. The response escalated unnecessarily. To give credit where it's due, at the end of the altercation, I offered to pay the bill. The owner politely refused multiple times. He apologized & things ended on a relatively peaceful note. Despite that, we won't be returning to this restaurant. It's disappointing because the restaurant has real potential when the food's fresh. But with inconsistent quality, disrespectful & hostile service, the owner exaggerating our history with the restaurant & the traumatizing public confrontation, this was a very unsettling experience. read more
