With such an incredible food scene in the greater phoenix area the true test isn't just a one time 4/5 star review but rather a return visit. Going someplace once and loving and enjoying it is one thing but craving it again and coming back is on another level. Well Tesota has done that for me as I was here with my brother two weeks ago and had to come back with my wife. She got and loved the truffle Mac and Cheese along with the waffle fries and I tried the charred cabbage and white sweet potato. Wife loved her items especially the Mac and I am in love with that charred cabbage. Sweet potato was good but the flavors that burst into a joyous melody of savory spice in the cabbage is crazy. The Newtons Fig cocktail is a must try! It's refreshing, sweet, and crisp. It's not on the menu, but I still ask for the Szechuan chicken fried rice, it's seasoned well the chicken is tender with a nice crunch on the outside. Cabbage dish is lovely. First bite the harrisa spices grab your attention. The yogurt with a hint of curry is next. The taste and perfection of the roasted cabbage. There were two tiny bits of red vegetable paste....red pepper paste or other? It was 'something great' - we were unsure but/and it was awesome in the dish. Made two or three bites extra lovely. This dish begins to MELD in the mouth in a delicious moment of 'wanting more.' Nice appetizer. The Asian salad was good and yet unexpected. A little bland, the chicken pieces too small to notice. It came with some crispy spicy oil but it wasn't enough. The dish needed more texture - more nuts or some crispy noodles. I'd rather see the cabbage crispy - it was limp. The bean spouts and cabbage and something else all blended together. Textures are too similar and no crunch factor. It's a soft salad and delicious but I preferred the awesome Szechuan Chicken and Rice. Chicken was slightly crispy and yet tender - addictive tasty and mouth feel perfect. Lovely spice. This place is where the Southern Rail used to be. They've made such great use of the space! We came on a Saturday afternoon and were shocked to find it so empty. There were so many interesting sounding dishes I wanted to try. We had the special chicken salad sandwich, and the bacon and eggs for brunch. SO good. Prices not bad, and service was great. If you're looking for great food with a lovely vibe, this is the place--100% recommend! I went to this restaurant a few days ago, and it was such a nice surprise. Unlike many spots in Phoenix, the food was actually delicious, the decor was super cute, and the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. The staff were also really friendly. We ordered the fish sandwich and the chicken salad. The fish was perfectly fried and came with this amazing green spicy sauce that gave it a nice kick. So we had no idea what to expect at Tesota because the menu is chaotic af and looks like someone was dissociating while they came up with it. That said - it's kinda perfect because we can take a group that can't agree and everyone walks away happy. Everything we've had is great but the Hiramasa crudo slaps, and as simple as it sounds the bread and spread is great for kinda just picking at throughout dinner. The bar is fantastic as well - the cocktails are unique and super well balanced, the Tucson Sour in particular was unexpectedly amazing as I'm not a huge fan of wine in my cocktails but that one worked. The interior is about as eclectic as the menu but not hugely changed since it was Southern Rail. Also - super kid friendly with lots of options on the kids menu. My daughter loves their kids salads (and she's not a salad sorta kid). read more

The deal of the night was a bottle of house red or white, choice of pizzetta & choice of salad for $36! What a bargain. I had the margherita pizza which was quite tasty. I had some of the house red and it was a bold, flavorful red blend. Anastacia (hope I'm spelling it right) was very friendly and attentive to everyone. She deserves 5 stars alone! The harissa shrimp was so yummy, and the white sweet potato was delish!! I loved the ambiance here! The only negatives were the rice paper dumplings weren't that good. A few of us tasted them and none of us liked it. They charged for the birthday cake and we also didn't like that they don't let you split checks more than 4 ways. Given the high reviews and online praise, we came in with high expectations and they were all met. We had the Szechuan Chicken Fried Rice and Fish Katsu sandwich, along with an order of raw oysters, and Olive Oil Cake for dessert--all of which were great. If you like a kick, definitely add some extra chili oil to the main dishes, it's delicious. Eric, our server, was great at providing recommendations and ensuring we were well taken care of. All of the food was really good and flavorful. We took our chance walking in on a Friday night and luckily some bar seats were available. Despite being packed the service was friendly and attentive. We tried the rice paper dumplings but they seemed more like a fried roll than a dumpling, but I still liked the flavor and it was balanced really well by the sauce. I went with the chorizo-pan chorizo sandwich. The bread was amazing. I would get it again just for more of the bread. The chorizo also had great flavor but I didn't realize it was going to be sliced sausage links instead of just the chorizo. The flavor was still amazing. This place has potential. It's a beautiful building with a bookstore and the Owl Cafe as well. And two very nice patios--although there are a couple problems - rather than put one of them on the north or east side, both are on the south, making them get very hot and also just a few feet off Camelback (4 lanes plus light rail) making it very noisy. The other problem is that the smaller patio to the east side is far away from the kitchen and main service areas, meaning service here is a bit slow; which we experienced. The Asian chicken salad was a complete letdown. All of the ingredients sound amazing but somehow it was totally bland. Even the dressing was tasteless. So was the tiny amount of chicken. So were all the ingredients. I really don't know how this was possible but two of us who ordered it agreed it was shockingly bland. No need to return. read more

The margherita pizza was the surprise champ for me, with the calabrian chilis adding the spice I've always wanted in a pizza! And it will sound strange, but the broccolini is really noteworthy, with a delectable and addictive char, and the waffle fries were perfection - light, hot and crispy. Our large group ordered the breads and spreads (a very good variety for sharing), sandwiches, burgers, noodle and rice bowls, and everyone was satisfied. My theater companions and I decided to try Tesota on a recommendation from friends. We arrived during Happy Hour and from the moment we walked in we felt embraced by the atmosphere. The dining room is spacious and the tables nicely spaced. The music was easy on the ears and, thankfully, not so loud that we could not hear each other speak at a normal tone. The menu offers a wide variety of eclectic dishes that appealed to all of us. The serving sizes are generous and just beautifully presented.Our server, Erik, was so very knowlegable and helpful and was just so pleasant that we will ask for him again. The drinks were delightful and the food was absolutely delicious. We shared the Upside Down Pear Cake, huge slice, and out of this world. The prices during Happy Hour were just an extra reason for us to visit again, they were that reasonable.We plan to make Tesota our pre-theater go to now.
